  • How can I update my business' Facebook page via my Ruby on Rails app?

    I'm creating a new rails app for my business, and I just finished a new feature where I can put an announcement on the website (for specials, sales, etc.). I want this announcement to automatically be set to my business' Facebook page. How can I easily do this? Is the only way to create a Facebook application, and then if so, can a Facebook application have permissions to edit a business' page (I know apps can edit user profiles, but I don't know about business pages)?   • [ruby] How to convert STDIN contents to an array?

    I've got a file INPUT that has the following contents: 123\n 456\n 789 I want to run my script like so: script.rb < INPUT and have it convert the contents of the INPUT file to an array, splitting on the new line character. So, I'd having something like myArray = [123,456,789]. Here's what I've tried to do and am not having much luck: myArray = STDIN.to_s myArray.split(/\n/) puts field.size I'm expecting this to print 3, but I'm getting 15. I'm really confused here. Any pointers?

    Hey there, trying to install a ruby gem but I keep getting the following error: ERROR:failed to build gem native extension /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby extconf.rb mkmf.rb can't find header files for ruby at/System/ Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/ruby.h I'm not exactly sure what is happening here. Is there anyone that knows what is going on and how to fix it? Thanks!

  • Weird execution of ruby/git executables in Windows

    Something strange has happened. I can't run some command line executables in Windows anymore. Steps: Open cmd Run an executable, such as ruby -v or git -h When I do that, a new command prompt opens, running that command (I think, it's too fast to see), and instantly closes again. I've managed to print screen the new command prompt, and it shows that it's running inside this path: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\3582-490 Inside this folder, is the executable I'm tring to run. If I run ruby, then ruby.exe is in there. If I run git, then git.exe is in there. And it's always emptying the folder in between, so there is always just one .exe file

    I'm extending the functionality of a jquery plugin (foo) with another jquery plugin (bar). Essentially, the first plugin specifies an onReady(): var foo = $.foo({ onReady: function() { alert('foo'); }}); Foo is sent to bar as a parameter to bar: var bar = $.bar(foo); I want bar to be able to hook into foo's onReady event: (function($) { $.extend({ bar: function(foo) { var foo = foo; // How to do alert('bar') when foo.onready is called? } }); })(jQuery); I can override foo's onready event: foo.onready = function() { alert('bar'); } But I don't want to override it, I want to extend it so that I'll see both alerts when foo is ready.     Hi, I am having a problem with my CSS whereby the right hand column in a 2 column layout is extending beyond the footer. I have tried playing with the clear: both; property but I cannot get it to work.. the second column has the id column2 both columns use the class column. The footer html has the id footerWrapper Both columns and footer are div tags.     How do you set up CI2 to allow extending of multiple models? I can only get it to extend one model (put in /application/core) named MY_Model (case sensitive). To choose what model to extend I am doing; in the model.. require_once APPPATH.'core/MY_Another_model.php'; class Test_model extends MY_Another_model { ... } I can't find where in the core system code where it states only to allow models that are being extended to be called MY_Model.     Is there a way to display User fields under a form that adds/edits a UserProfile model? I am extending default Django User model like this: class UserProfile(models.Model): user = models.OneToOneField(User, unique=True) about = models.TextField(blank=True) I know that it is possible to make a: class UserProfileInlineAdmin(admin.TabularInline): and then inline this in User ModelAdmin but I want to achieve the opposite effect, something like inverse inlining, displaying the fields of the model pointed by the OneToOne Relationship (User) in the page of the model defining the relationship (UserProfile). I don't care if it would be in the admin or in a custom view/template. I just need to know how to achieve this. I've been struggling with ModelForms and Formsets, I know the answer is somewhere there, but my little experience in Django doesn't allow me to come up with the solution yet. A little example would be really helpful!

  • Textmate rails bundle

    Normally when working inside a Ruby on Rails view file, I can hit CTRL + SHIFT + . to get open/close tags for rails like so: <%= selection %> I'm not sure how, but yesterday this functionality stopped working. I reinstalled the Ruby on Rails bundle for Textmate but alas, it did not help. Can anybody speculate might have happened and how I could fix it/reset to original settings? Thanks!

  • How do I install something from source and make it available to root?

    I have a CentOS VM and I need to install the latest version of Ruby on it. Unfortunately, yum only makes Ruby 1.8.6 available so I'm trying to install Ruby from source. Here's what I'm using: cd /usr/src sudo -s wget http://ftp.ruby-lang.org/pub/ruby/1.9/ruby-1.9.3-p125.tar.gz tar -xvzf ruby-1.9.3-p125.tar.gz cd ruby-1.9.3-p125 ./configure make && make install The problem is that once that's done, I can only use Ruby as a regular user but I need to use it as root to install some gems. For example, as a regular user I can do ruby -v and it works but sudo ruby -v outputs bash: ruby: command not found. What am I missing to make stuff I install from source available to all users?

  • Including File Paths in Ocra?

    I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to include file paths in ocra and still have the application make an exe. I have it set up so that the .exe generated by ocra would sit on the same directory level as another folder. That folder is named 'Place Files Here', and the program simply performs regex commands on text files in the 'Place Files Here' folder. I can run ocra without errors if I use only Dir.getwd, but if I try to add directory = Dir.getwd + '/Place Files Here' it won't run. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi All I might be vaguing out here but I'm looking for a nice place to put set based helper operations in linq so I can do things like; db.Selections.ClearTemporary() which does something like db.DeleteAllOnSubmit(db.Selections.Where(s => s.Temporary)) Since I can figure out how to extend Table<Selection> the best I can do is create a static method in partial class of Selection (similar to Ruby) but I have to pass in the datacontext like; Selection.ClearTemporary(MyDataContext) This kind of sucks because I have two conventions for doing set based operations and I have to pass the data context to the static class. I've seen other people recommending piling helper methods into a partial of the datacontext like; myDataContext.ClearTemporarySelections(); But I feel this makes the dc a dumping ground for in-cohesive operations. Surely I'm missing something. I hope so. What's the convention? TIA

  • Replacing/Extending Visual Studio's Generate Stub in Visual Studio 2010

    When we write the name of a method that doesn't exist, Visual Studio 2010 asks us if we'd like to generate a method stub with that name. What I'd like to know if is it possible to replace that same code stub generating command with one made by myself. I never did any kind of extensibility programming for Visual Studio so I have a couple of questions: How hard is it? Is it something I can learn in a couple of nights, or is it something that'll make me "lose" a lot of time? It seems to me that there isn't a lot of support for that kind of programming, as generally people are not that interested in developing solutions that extend the Visual Studio IDE. I searched on SO and it doesn't appear to have many threads about extending Visual Studio. I don't know how the generate method stub thing works in Visual Studio, but I just wanted to turn it into something a bit more flexible and useful. Has anyone dealt with these kind of things before, that can give me a pointer to where to start? I know of MS VSX site but that has a lot of resources and can be overwhelming for someone new to the subject as I am. What technology will I need to use? T4? Maybe I'll need to know a lot about the code, like Visual Studio does, so I can know other method's type arguments, names, etc. Is that what T4 is for? Thanks
