    I have successfully completed this great tutorial : http://www.sencha.com/learn/ext-js-grids-with-php-and-sql/ I just can't use the baseParams field specified with the proxy...   • (Weak) ETags and Last-Modified

    As far as I understand the specs, the ETag, which was introduced in RFC 2616 (HTTP/1.1) is a predecessor of the Last-Modified-Header, which is proposet to give the software-architect more controll over the cache-revalidating process. If both Cache-Validation-Headers (If-None-Match and If-Modified-Since) are present, according to RFC 2616, the client (i.e. the browser) should use the ETag when checking, if a resource has changed. According to section 14.26 of RFC 2616, the server MUST NOT respond with a 304 Not Modified, if the ETag presented in a If-None-Match-Header has changed, and the server has to ignore an additional If-Modified-Since-Header, if present. If the presented ETag matches, he MUST NOT perform the request, unless the Date in the Last-Modified-Header says so. (If the presented ETag matches, the server should respond with a 304 Not Modified in case of a GET- or HEAD-request...) This section leaves room for some speculations: A strong ETag is supposed to change ''everytime'', the resource changes. So, having to responde with something else as 304 Not Modified to a request with an unchanged ETag and an If-Modified-Since-Header, which dose not match is a bit of a contradiction, because the strong ETag says, that the resource was not modified. (Though, this is not that fatal, because the server can send the same unchanged resource again.) ... ... o.k. While I was writing this, the question was boiling down to this answer: The (small) contradiction stated above, was made because of Weak ETags. A resource marked with a Weak ETag may have changed, although the ETag has not. So, in case of a Weak ETag it would be wrong, to answer with 304 Not Modified, when the ETag has not changed, but the date presented in the If-Modified-Since does not match, right?

  • Cannot connect to Github?

    so I tried to push some updates onto my repo on github via terminal on Mac OSX 10.8.4 and it doesn't work. I am currently in Shanghai, China, could it be the GFW?     I am new to Java. I wrote an applet with a gui that sends results (int w and int p) to a server, and I get the "411 Length Required" error. What am I doing wrong? How do you set a Content-Length?     With such a large platform, Windows Azure has a lot of moving parts. We’ve done our best to keep the interface as simple as possible, while giving you the most control and visibility we can. However, as with most Microsoft products, there are multiple ways to do something – and I’ve always found that to be a good strength. Depending on the situation, I might want a graphical interface, a command-line interface, or just an API so I can incorporate the management into my own tools, or have third-party companies write other tools. While by no means exhaustive, I thought I might put together a quick list of a few tools you can use to manage and monitor Windows Azure components, from our IaaS, SaaS and PaaS offerings. Some of the products focus on one area more than another, but all are available today. I’ll try and maintain this list to keep it current, but make sure you check the date of this post’s update – if it’s more than six months old, it’s most likely out of date. Things move fast in the cloud. The Windows Azure Management Portal The primary tool for managing Windows Azure is our portal – most everything you need is there, from creating new services to querying a database. There are two versions as of this writing – a Silverlight client version, and a newer HTML5 version. The latter is being updated constantly to be in parity with the Silverlight client. There’s a balance in this portal between simplicity and power – we’re following the “less is more” approach, with increasing levels of detail as you work through the portal rather than overwhelming you with a single, long “more is more” page.   • What's the deal with URLs for Yandex.Metrica not prepended with "http"?

    The description of Yandex.Metrica explicitly says that URLs like //mc.yandex.ru/metrika/watch.js (no http: in front) that the web site owner has to insert into his pages are not erroneous. So for example this code: <img src="//mc.yandex.ru/watch/00000" style="position:absolute; left:-9999px;" alt="" /> is claimed to be okay. However the code validator thinks such URLs are not okay and I'd rather make the validator happy so that noone breaks the code later trying to "fix" it. Why are these URLs not prepended with http:? What happens if I actually prepend them with http:?

    When linking pages, does google give higher value to href="http://www.mydomain.com" than href="/"? I am wondering because I have heard that (for SEO) it is better to provide the full http address when linking to the sites homepage. As I thought about it, I wondered why that would be. Would google really assign higher value to href="http://www.mydomain.com" instead of href="/"? They both mean the same thing. Do you guys know or have any resources on this?

  • Does heavy library and snippet codes usage make you a bad programmer?

    Overall I'm in programming for about 8 years now and it seems to me that I'm relying more and more on open source libraries and snippets (damn you GitHub!) to "get the job done". I know that in time I could write me own implementation but I like to focus on the overall design. Is this normal (non cooperate environment)? Does it make you a bad programmer if "programming" is nothing more than cluing different libraries together. Feels like it. I know about "don't reinvent the wheel" but what happens when you don't invent a single wheel anymore. What's your take on this?

  • How to enable ufw firewall to allow icmp response?

    I have a series of Ubuntu 10.04 servers and each one has ufw firewall enabled. I have allowed port 22 (for SSH) and 80 (if it's a webserver). My question is that I am trying to enable icmp echo response (ping reply). ICMP functions differently than other protocols--I know it is below the IP level in a technical sense. You can just type sudo ufw allow 22, but you cannot type sudo ufw allow icmp How should attack this problem?

Which means that if a client requests "/page.html" first, then "/index.html", the condition will evaluate to true even if the cookie for the "/index.html" has not been set. I found in bug report phk or someone else stating that computing regular expressions was extremely expensive which is why they are evaluated during compilation. Considering this, I believe that there is no way of achieving what I want the way I've been trying to. Is there any way of solving this problem, other than writting a vmod?   • IIS doing unexpected redirect

    I have website abc.com and abc.co.in.I have two webservers also. The following issue happens only in abc.co.in with same application deployed on same. We have written a custom IHttpModule and do a rewrite to abc.co.in?some=data. Expected behavior: When user enters some.abc.co.in the expected behavior is browser still display some.abc.co.in but internally call abc.co.in?some=data Actual behavior: The page is rendered properly but in browser the URL changes to some.abc.co.in?some=data I checked what is happening 1.First the server receives the request and does a 301 redirect. 2.The redirect location is some.abc.co.in?some=data I am stuck in this for a day and critical to fix to make our site up and running.   • How to initiate chatting between two clients and two clients only, using applets and servlets?

    Hello everyone, I first need to apologize for my earlier questions. (You can check my profile for them)They seemed to ask more questions than give answers. Hence, I am laying down the actual question that started all them absurd questions. I am trying to design a chat applet. Till now, I have coded the applet, servlet and communication between the applet and the servlet. The code in the servlet side is such that I was able to establish chatting between clients using the applets, but the code was more like a broadcast all feature, i.e. all clients would be chatting with each other. That was my first objective when I started designing the chat applet. The second step is chatting between only two specific users, much like any other chat application we have. So this was my idea for it: I create an instance of the servlet that has the 'broadcast-all' code. I then pass the address of this instance to the respective clients. 2 client applets use the address to then chat. Technically the code is 'broadcast-all', but since only 2 clients are connected to it, it gives the chatting between two clients feature. Thus, groups of 2 clients have different instances of the same servlet, and each instance handles chatting between two clients at a max. However, as predicted, the idea didn't materialize! I tried to create an instance of the servlet but the only solution for that was using sessions on the servlet side, and I don't know how to use this session for later communications. I then tried to modify my broadcast-all code. In that code, I was using classes that implemented Observer and Observable interfaces. So the next idea that I got was: Create a new object of the Observable class(say class_1). This object be common to 2 clients. 2 clients that wish to chat will use same object of the class_1. 2 other clients will use a different object of class_1. But the problem here lies with the class that implements the Observer interface(say class_2). Since this has observers monitoring the same type of class, namely class_1, how do I establish an observer monitoring one object of class_1 and another observer monitoring another object of the same class class_1 (Because notifyObservers() would notify all the observers and I can't assign a particular observer to a particular object)? I first decided to ask individual problems, like how to create instances of servlets, using objects of observable and observer and so on in stackoverflow... but I got confused even more. Can anyone give me an idea how to establish chatting between two clients only?(I am using Http and not sockets or RMI). Regards, Mithun. P.S.   • Damaged data when gzipping

    This is the script I hva written for gzipping content on my site, which is located in 'gzip.php'. The way i use it is that on pages where I want to enable gzipping i include the file at the top and at the bottom i call the output function like this: print_gzipped_page('javascript') If the file is a css-file i use 'css' as the $type-argument and if its a php file i call the function without declaring any arguments. The script works fine in all browsers except Opera which gives an error saying it could not decode the page due to damaged data.   • How can I get the Terminal raster font to display alt codes in a text editor?

    I am working on a project that includes making some ASCII art, except it isn't true ASCII art since I am using a far amount of Windows Alt codes to make it. Anyways, I wanted to make sure that as I am working on it, that it looks exactly how it will in a windows command prompt terminal session. So since command prompt defaults to the Terminal raster font, I figured I would use that. But I quickly noticed that when I use the Terminal typeface in a text editor, it will not render ASCII codes, either at all (as is the case most of the time) or incorrectly. Now, I understand if a font just doesn't support non-ASCII characters, but what I don't get is how the characters do show up correctly in command prompt when they don't in a text editor. I checked the output of the 'chcp' and it was set to 437 by default, which is what I need. Well, either that or 850 but preferably 437 since they got rid of some of the graphics in 437 and replaced them with other Latin characters. Command prompt terminal settings show I am using the Terminal raster font with a 8x12 glyph size. So I try using size 12 in the text editor but no good, even after switching the text encoding to either MS-DOS OEM-US (supposedly an alternative name for CP437) or UTF-8. I just don't get how I am not getting the characters to show up. Also, if it helps, the art I am making is basically modified screen shots from a game I play called Dwarf Fortress that uses characters from the Terminal/Curses typeset, or at least that is how it is reported in the forums by those who make graphics sets to replace the default character set. However, the game doesn't actually use the system's Terminal font. The game's data files includes a bitmap image that is a grid of all the characters the game uses. So it uses this bitmap to render graphics instead of the actual font file. And I basically want to get a text editor to make it so if I type up some ASCII art to look like a screenshot from Dwarf Fortress, that it will actually look like Dwarf Fortress other than the lack of color. Any help?

I configured the following section inside the Server.xml <Realm className="org.apache.catalina.realm.JNDIRealm" debug="99" connectionURL="ldap://****:389/DC=onsetinc,DC=com??sAMccountName?sub?(objectClass=*)" connectionName="[email protected]" connectionPassword="password" userBase="CN=Users" referrals="follow" userSearch="(sAMAccountName={0})" userSubtree="true" roleBase="CN=Users" roleName="name" roleSubtree="true" roleSearch="(member={1})"/> I have also configured the web.xml under my appfolder to contain the following: <security-role> <role-name>Admin</role-name> </security-role> <security-role> <role-name>WaterlooUsers</role-name> </security-role> <security-constraint> <web-resource-collection> <web-resource-name>Tube</web-resource-name> <url-pattern>/ComposeMessage.jsp</url-pattern> <url-pattern>/PageStatus.jsp</url-pattern> <url-pattern>/UserStatus.jsp</url-pattern> <url-pattern>/SearchEC.jsp</url-pattern> <url-pattern>/SearchEC2.jsp</url-pattern> <url-pattern>/SearchMessageStatisticsEC.jsp</url-pattern> <url-pattern>/SearchMessageStatus.jsp</url-pattern> <url-pattern>/SearchMessageStatisticsPager.jsp</url-pattern> <url-pattern>/SearchPageStatus.jsp</url-pattern> </web-resource-collection> <auth-constraint> <role-name>WaterlooUsers</role-name> </auth-constraint> </security-constraint> In my Active directory i have created a new group called WaterlooUsers It's distinguish name is : distinguishedName: CN=WaterlooUsers,CN=Users,DC=onsetinc,DC=com It has a property member which contains the following user: member: CN=Itay Levin,CN=Users,DC=onsetinc,DC=com (which is my user) My record on the active directory looks like that: sAMAccountName: itayL distinguishedName: CN=Itay Levin,CN=Users,DC=onsetinc,DC=com memberOf: CN=WaterlooUsers,CN=Users,DC=onsetinc,DC=com and when i get the popup for user/password i enter the username "ItayL" in the authentication message box (and my password) I have 2 questions: How do i configure correctly the roles parameters correctly in the Realm section in the server.xml to enable me to both authenticate and authorize both this group of users WaterlooUsers and also assign them to the appropriate role so that they can see all the relevant pages in my website. - currently it seems that all the Users in my domain are authenticated to the site but get the http-403 Error and can't access any of the pages in the site. I also want to be able to create 2 different set of roles in my site - which can both have access to the same pages - but will see different things on the page.   • Monorail - Form submission using GET instead of POST

    Hello, I'm writing some additions to a Castle MonoRail based site involving an Add and an Edit form. The add form works fine and uses POST but the edit form uses GET. The only major difference I can see is that the edit method is called with the Id of the object being edited in the query string. When the submit button is pressed on the edit form, the only argument passed is this object Id again. The Method dealing with this on the controller starts like this: public void Edit(int id) { Coupon coupon = Coupon.GetRepository(User.Site.Id).FindById(id).Value; if(coupon == null) { RedirectToReferrer(); return; } IFutureQueryOfList<Story> stories = Story.GetRepository(User.Site.Id).OnlyReturnEnabled().FindAll("Name", true); if (Params["Save"] == null) { ... } } It reliably gets called but a breakpoint on the Params["Save"] lets me see that the HttpMethod is "GET" and the only arguments passed (In the Form and the Request) are the object Id and additional HTTP headers. At the end of the day I'm not that familiar with MonoRail and this may be a stupid mistake on my behalf, but I would very much appreciate being made a fool out of if it fixes the problem! :) Thanks
