  • Outside of a web browser, does the Javascript programming language do anything? [closed]

    - by Stom
    I often hear people talking about Javascript in conjunction with web browser programming/web page programming and such, and/or form logic, etc. However, outside of a browser, can Javascript source be written and compiled to work outside of a browser, much like C/C++ can work in a terminal window/GUI window with a library? Can I write "Hello World" in Javascript in a console terminal on a modern OS GUI and such like C?

  • Example WCF XML-RPC client C# code against custom XML-RPC server implementation?

    - by mr.b
    I have built my own little custom XML-RPC server, and since I'd like to keep things simple, on both server and client side (server side PHP runs, by the way), what I would like to accomplish is to create a simplest possible client in C# using WCF. Let's say that Contract for service exposed via XML-RPC is as follows. [ServiceContract] public interface IContract { [OperationContract(Action="Ping")] string Ping(); // server returns back string "Pong" [OperationContract(Action="Echo")] string Echo(string message); // server echoes back whatever message is } So, there are two example methods, one without any arguments, and another with simple string argument, both returning strings (just for sake of example). Service is exposed via http. What's next? Thanks for reading! P.S. I have done my homework of googling around for samples and similar, but all that I could come up with are some blog-related samples that use existing (and very big) classes, which implement correct IContract (or IBlogger) interfaces, so that most of what I am interested is hidden below several layers of abstraction...

  • Is there any Flex dataGrid implementation which has features similar to XtraGrid?

    - by Nirmal Singh Raja Reegan
    I am looking for a Flex datagrid component that has features like grouping, sorting, master/detail display, etc. I am having an application in C# that uses XtraGrid suite to achieve the required datagrid features. I am planning to migrate this application to Flex. If there is no flex component readily available with XtraGrid features, then I have to create one on my own. Please let me know if you know any? Thanks, Nirmal

  • Why doesn't my implementation of El Gamal work for long text strings?

    - by angstrom91
    I'm playing with the El Gamal cryptosystem, and my goal is to be able to encipher and decipher long sequences of text. I have come up with a method that works for short sequences, but does not work for long sequences, and I cannot figure out why. El Gamal requires the plaintext to be an integer. I have turned my string into a byte[] using the .getBytes() method for Strings, and then created a BigInteger out of the byte[]. After encryption/decryption, I turn the BigInteger into a byte[] using the .toByteArray() method for BigIntegers, and then create a new String object from the byte[]. This works perfectly when i call ElGamalEncipher with strings up to 129 characters. With 130 or more characters, the output produced is garbled. Can someone suggest how to solve this issue? Is this an issue with my method of turning the string into a BigInteger? If so, is there a better way to turn my string of text into a BigInteger and back? Below is my encipher/decipher code with a program to demonstrate the problem. import java.math.BigInteger; public class Main { static BigInteger P = new BigInteger("15893293927989454301918026303382412" + "2586402937727056707057089173871237566896685250125642378268385842" + "6917261652781627945428519810052550093673226849059197769795219973" + "9423619267147615314847625134014485225178547696778149706043781174" + "2873134844164791938367765407368476144402513720666965545242487520" + "288928241768306844169"); static BigInteger G = new BigInteger("33234037774370419907086775226926852" + "1714093595439329931523707339920987838600777935381196897157489391" + "8360683761941170467795379762509619438720072694104701372808513985" + "2267495266642743136795903226571831274837537691982486936010899433" + "1742996138863988537349011363534657200181054004755211807985189183" + "22832092343085067869"); static BigInteger R = new BigInteger("72294619754760174015019300613282868" + "7219874058383991405961870844510501809885568825032608592198728334" + "7842806755320938980653857292210955880919036195738252708294945320" + "3969657021169134916999794791553544054426668823852291733234236693" + "4178738081619274342922698767296233937873073756955509269717272907" + "8566607940937442517"); static BigInteger A = new BigInteger("32189274574111378750865973746687106" + "3695160924347574569923113893643975328118502246784387874381928804" + "6865920942258286938666201264395694101012858796521485171319748255" + "4630425677084511454641229993833255506759834486100188932905136959" + "7287419551379203001848457730376230681693887924162381650252270090" + "28296990388507680954"); public static void main(String[] args) { FewChars(); System.out.println(); ManyChars(); } public static void FewChars() { //ElGamalEncipher(String plaintext, BigInteger p, BigInteger g, BigInteger r) BigInteger[] cipherText = ElGamal.ElGamalEncipher("This is a string " + "of 129 characters which works just fine . • Practical non-Turing-complete languages?

    - by Kyle Cronin
    Nearly all programming languages used are Turing Complete, and while this affords the language to represent any computable algorithm, it also comes with its own set of problems. Seeing as all the algorithms I write are intended to halt, I would like to be able to represent them in a language that guarantees they will halt. Regular expressions used for matching strings and finite state machines are used when lexing, but I'm wondering if there's a more general, broadly language that's not Turing complete? edit: I should clarify, by 'general purpose' I don't necessarily want to be able to write all halting algorithms in the language (I don't think that such a language would exist) but I suspect that there are common threads in halting proofs that can be generalized to produce a language in which all algorithms are guaranteed to halt. There's also another way to tackle this problem - eliminate the need for theoretically infinite memory. Once you limit the amount of memory the machine is allowed, the number of states the machine is in is finite and countable, and therefore you can determine if the algorithm will halt (by not allowing the machine to move into a state it's been in before).

  • What does N years of experience with a language really mean?

    - by marcgg
    I've been looking at jobs descriptions since I'm graduating soon and looking for a job and what's always coming back - I'm not teaching you anything - is the "N years of experience in this language". It has been discussed in this question that if you work professionally with let's say Ruby for 2 years, but during these two years you also did some C# and PHP and were actually coding in Ruby 50% of the time. Do you say you have 1 year of experience in Ruby? 2 years? Another issue that hasn't been reviewed in the other post is for "non-professional experience". I'll give you a personal example: I've been working with Ruby on Rails since 2004 while at school. I did a lot of personal projects and school projects using this technology. I also used Rails in 2 6-month internships. Do I have 5 years of Rails experience (2004-now)? Do I have 1 year(2 internships)? Do I have nothing? I feel like I don't deserve the credit for 5 years, because the first years I wasn't working a lot with rails, but since last year I launched some websites and invested myself a lot in this technology and just saying 1 year doesn't really reflect how much I know the technology... Another example: I Learned C++ at school and did 1 big project with it (2-3 month of work and a semester of classes). I never used it in a company but I'd be able to be productive fairly quickly if I had to work on a C++ project and I have a good grasp of the concepts. Do I have no experience? 3 months? 6 months? ... something else? What I'm really trying to do is to find a way to present my skill set in a way that is compliant to what recruiters expect. I also don't want to end up at an interview that would go something like this... Recruiter (finding out the horrible truth): Oh but you said that you had 2 years of experience with this when you have none! / slaps me in the face / Me (in pain): Oh! The irony! Recruiter (yelling): Get out of my office / calls security, punches me in the throat /

  • Why does the ID of Google's OpenID implementation change?

    - by Andrea
    I'm trying to implement OpenId login for a web application. Whenever new user who logs in via OpenId I create a new user on the sustem, and among the data I store their openid URL, so that next time they login with that user. I'm testing this with my Gmail OpenID, and the problem is that everytime I do this, Google sends a different openid URL, that is, https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id?id=SomethingThatChangesFromTimeToTime Of course I'm then not able to tell wheter this is or not a new user. I'm a bit puzzled: shouldn't the openid identifier always remain the same?

  • A simple free MIDI implementation in Java besides javax.sound.midi: Are there any?

    - by Peterdk
    The problem is: Android doesn't implement javax.sound.midi. I need a simple free library that allows me to create simple 1-track midi files. I searched the net for it, but can't really find anything, since everything uses javax.sound.midi . The license needs to be one where I don't need to opensource my linked app. Any ideas? I also looked into the fileformat itself. However, I am totally not familiar with working with bytes, hexidecimal stuff etc. So, other option is: are there any simple midi implementations that I can use as reference?

  • Spring.net - how to choose implementation of interface in runtime ?

    - by rouen
    Hi, in all examples of spring.net IoC i can see something like this: interface IClass; class ClassA : IClass; class ClassB : IClass, and then in config.xml file something like [object id="IClass" type="ClassB, Spring.Net.Test" /] but, i really need to do something like this: in config file there will be more implementations if interface: [object id="IClass" type="ClassA, Blah" /] [object id="IClass" type="ClassB, Blah" /] and then, in runtime i choose from them, something like this: IClass c = [get me all implementations of IClass, and choose the one with GetType().FullName == myVariableContainingFullTypeNameOfObjectIWant] how can i do something like this please, i cant google anything for hours.... many thanks !

  • How to make TXMLDocument (with the MSXML Implementation) always include the encoding attribute?

    - by Fabricio Araujo
    I have legacy code (I didn't write it) that always included the encoding attribute, but recompiling it to D2010, TXMLDocument doesn't include the enconding anymore. Because the XML data have accented characters both on tags and data, TXMLDocument.LoadFromFile simply throws EDOMParseErros saying that an invalid character is found on the file. Relevant code: Doc := TXMLDocument.Create(nil); try Doc.Active := True; Doc.Encoding := XMLEncoding; RootNode := Doc.CreateElement('Test', ''); Doc.DocumentElement := RootNode; <snip> //Result := Doc.XMl.Text; Doc.SaveToXML(Result); // Both lines gives the same result On older versions of Delphi, the following line is generated: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> On D2010, this is generated: <?xml version="1.0"?> If I change manually the line, all works like always worked in the last years. UPDATE: XMLEncoding is a constant and is defined as follow XMLEncoding = 'ISO-8859-1';

    I am trying to learn how to write plugins using SIMBL. I got my plugin to load with the target application, and also know the method that I wish to override. However, I am not able to use class_getInstanceMethod correctly based on snippets on the Internet. Have things changed in OSX 10.6 and/or ObjC2? The following code from culater.net gives "Dereferencing pointer to incomplete type" on the second-last statement: BOOL DTRenameSelector(Class _class, SEL _oldSelector, SEL _newSelector) { Method method = nil; // First, look for the methods method = class_getInstanceMethod(_class, _oldSelector); if (method == nil) return NO; method->method_name = _newSelector; return YES; } Is there a complete example of how to override a method using SIMBL plugins? Thanks!

  • SQL multiple primary keys - localization

    - by Max Malmgren
    I am trying to implement some localization in my database. It looks something like this (prefixes only for clarification) tbl-Categories ID Language Name tbl-Articles ID CategoryID Now, in my tbl-Categories, I want to have primary keys spanning ID and language, so that every combination of ID and language is unique. In tbl-Articles I would like a foreign key to reference ID in categories, but not Language, since I do not want to bind an article to a certain language, only category. Of course, I cannot add a foreign key to part of the primary key. I also cannot have the primary key only on the ID of categories, since then there can only be one language. Having no primary keys disables foreign keys altogether, and that is also not a great solution. Do you have any ideas how I can solve this in an elegant fashion? Thanks.

  • List available languages for PyGTK UI strings

    - by detly
    I'm cleaning up some localisation and translation settings in our PyGTK application. The app is only intended to be used under GNU/Linux systems. One of the features we want is for users to select the language used for the applications (some prefer their native language, some prefer English for consistency, some like French because it sounds romantic, etc). For this to work, I need to actually show a combo box with the various languages available. How can I get this list? In fact, I need a list of pairs of the language code ("en", "ru", etc) and the language name in the native language ("English (US)", "???????"). If I had to implement a brute force method, I'd do something like: look in the system locale dir (eg. "/usr/share/locale") for all language code dirs (eg. "en/") containing the relative path "LC_MESSAGES/OurAppName.mo". Is there a more programmatic way?

  • The sieve of Eratosthenes in F#

    - by IVlad
    I am interested in an implementation of the sieve of eratosthenes in purely functional F#. I am interested in an implementation of the actual sieve, not the naive functional implementation that isn't really the sieve, so not something like this: let rec PseudoSieve list = match list with | hd::tl -> hd :: (PseudoSieve <| List.filter (fun x -> x % hd <> 0) tl) | [] -> [] The second link above briefly describes an algorithm that would require the use of a multimap, which isn't available in F# as far as I know. The Haskell implementation given uses a map that supports an insertWith method, which I haven't seen available in the F# functional map. Does anyone know a way to translate the given Haskell map code to F#, or perhaps knows of alternative implementation methods or sieving algorithms that are as efficient and better suited for a functional implementation or F#?

  • Common Lisp implementation with CFFI and thread support on Mac, Windows, and Linux?

    - by mcandre
    Goal: Install Hunchentoot and be able to run Hunchentoot as a background thread. This is what I do: Install Common Lisp. Install Quicklisp. (ql:quickload "hunchentoot") (hunchentoot:start (make-instance 'hunchentoot:acceptor :port 4242)) The last command is supposed to start Hunchentoot, then return to the interpreter for further Common Lisp forms. For CLISP, SBCL, ABCL, ECL, and CCL, I get one of two results: Hunchentoot's dependency Bordeaux Threads fails to install. hunchentoot:start hangs. The web page never loads, and never 404s.

  • Is there an implementation of rapid concurrent syntactical sugar in scala? eg. map-reduce

    - by TiansHUo
    Passing messages around with actors is great. But I would like to have even easier code. Examples (Pseudo-code) val splicedList:List[List[Int]]=biglist.partition(100) val sum:Int=ActorPool.numberOfActors(5).getAllResults(splicedList,foldLeft(_+_)) where spliceIntoParts turns one big list into 100 small lists the numberofactors part, creates a pool which uses 5 actors and receives new jobs after a job is finished and getallresults uses a method on a list. all this done with messages passing in the background. where maybe getFirstResult, calculates the first result, and stops all other threads (like cracking a password)

  • I have a generic implementation of mcrypt and its not working.

    class Crypt_Data { protected $_mcrypt=null; protected $_iv=null; protected $_key=null; public function __construct() { $this->_mcrypt = mcrypt_module_open('rijndael_256', '', 'cbc', ''); $key_size = mcrypt_enc_get_key_size($this->_mcrypt); for($i=0;$i<$key_size;$i++) $test_key .= "0"; $this->_iv = $test_key; $this->_key = $test_key; mcrypt_generic_init($this->_mcrypt,$this->_key,$this->_iv); } public function dataEncrypt($data) { return base64_encode(mcrypt_generic($this->_mcrypt, $data)); } public function dataDecrypt($data) { return mdecrypt_generic($this->_mcrypt, base64_decode($data)); } } $crypt = new Crypt_Data(); $string = "encrypt me"; $encrypted = $crypt->dataEncrypt($string); echo $encrypted."<BR>"; $decrypted = $crypt->dataDecrypt($encrypted); echo $decrypted."<BR>"; output: JJKfKxZckkqwfZ5QWeyVR+3PkMQAsP0Gr1hWaygV20I= qÌÌi_ÖZí(®`iÜ¥wÝÿ ô0€Í6Ÿhf[%ër No idea why this isn't working, everything seems to be find on my end.. i tried decrypting it with mcrypt_cbc(); and it decrypted it properly.. so it has something to do with my mdecrypt_generic.. any ideas?

  • Help with C# program design implementation: multiple array of lists or a better way?

    - by Bob
    I'm creating a 2D tile-based RPG in XNA and am in the initial design phase. I was thinking of how I want my tile engine to work and came up with a rough sketch. Basically I want a grid of tiles, but at each tile location I want to be able to add more than one tile and have an offset. I'd like this so that I could do something like add individual trees on the world map to give more flair. Or set bottles on a bar in some town without having to draw a bunch of different bar tiles with varying bottles. But maybe my reach is greater than my grasp. I went to implement the idea and had something like this in my Map object: List<Tile>[,] Grid; But then I thought about it. Let's say I had a world map of 200x200, which would actually be pretty small as far as RPGs go. That would amount to 40,000 Lists. To my mind I think there has to be a better way. Now this IS pre-mature optimization. I don't know if the way I happen to design my maps and game will be able to handle this, but it seems needlessly inefficient and something that could creep up if my game gets more complex. One idea I have is to make the offset and the multiple tiles optional so that I'm only paying for them when needed. But I'm not sure how I'd do this. A multiple array of objects? object[,] Grid; So here's my criteria: A 2D grid of tile locations Each tile location has a minimum of 1 tile, but can optionally have more Each extra tile can optionally have an x and y offset for pinpoint placement Can anyone help with some ideas for implementing such a design (don't need it done for me, just ideas) while keeping memory usage to a minimum? If you need more background here's roughly what my Map and Tile objects amount to: public struct Map { public Texture2D Texture; public List<Rectangle> Sources; //Source Rectangles for where in Texture to get the sprite public List<Tile>[,] Grid; } public struct Tile { public int Index; //Where in Sources to find the source Rectangle public int X, Y; //Optional offsets }
