• Is it possible to position an element relative to the border-box of its parent?

  Consider the following jsfiddle for reference: http://jsfiddle.net/apmmw2ma/ As you can see, the “inner” box (with the red border) is positioned relative to the outer’s padding-box: left:0 positions it just to the right of outer’s border, and top:100% appears to mean “100% of the content plus padding, but not the border”. Unfortunately, adding box-sizing: border-box to the outer div seems to have no effect. I want to position a child element directly below its parent’s border-box, i.e. the two borders should abut no matter how thick they are. Is this possible?

• Java Custom exception throw behaves differently between different Projects

  I am attempting to call the following in my code: public void checkParticleLightRestriction(Particle parent) throws LightException { if ( parent == null ) { throw new LightException("quantum-particle-restrict.23", this); } In one Project the exception is thrown and the effect is similar to calling "return" whereby I am returned back to the point immediately succeeding where this method was called. However in another Project I get thrown completed out of the current package and to a point way prior to the point preceeding this method. It likes instead of being kicked out of a bar I am being deported all the way out of the country. My option are the wrap the throw in a try / catch but I am wondering why this difference in behaviour beween the 2 projects ?

• Adding fields to a proxied class in Clojure

  I'm using "proxy" to extend various Swing classes in a Clojure GUI application, generally with code that looks something like: (def ^JPanel mypanel (proxy [JPanel] [] (paintComponent [#^Graphics g] (.drawImage g background-image 0 0 nil)))) This works well but I can't figure out how to add additional fields to the newly extended class, for example making the background-image a field that could be subsequently updated. This would be pretty easy and common practice in Java. Is there a good way to do this in Clojure? Or is there another preferred method to achieve the same effect?

  Hi, I'm trying to make a custom gridview in WPF but I just realized that as this link says: The GridViewHeaderRowPresenter class performs layout for the column headers in a GridView and places an additional column header at the end to add space and because of the additional column header at the end, there's an extra column to the right of the last column. so I was wondering if I can modify it, please refer to this image below My questions are: Is there anyway I can remove the 'A' part from the grid? Is there anyway I can add the same effect of 'B' part (the role = padding header) to the 'C' Part (before the first column)? Thanks

• The 100% width HTML element problem

  When assigning some HTML elements (like a form input) 100% width - you can no longer apply any additional styles that might effect the width. Things like border or padding will cause the element to exceed 100%. This results in awkward elements that may be outside of their parent elements. Since CSS doesn't support width: 100% - 2px; The only way I know around this is to use an absolute pixel width (width: 98px) or chop the element off at 100% which is not really an option. <div style="overflow:hidden;"> <input style="width:100%; border: 1px solid #000;" /> </div> Are they're any other ways around this?

• Maximum open sll connections on Windows

  version: erlang R13B Hi all, how can I increase the amount of ssl ports/handles that my network server is able to create on Windows? On linux I was able to successful create about 1000 connections using: -env ERL_MAX_PORTS 80000 -P 268435456 and changing the maximum open fd's using ulimit. On windows apparently there is no effect using the same configuration, and sadly the number of open connections are VERY small (about 30, and it opens 6 handles for each one). I've noticed that the shell starts two other children processes, inet_gethost.exe and ssl_esock.exe. If these are the ones that I have to increase the port count, how do I do that? Thanks,

  If someone types in a phrase, such as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. (no blank lines between each line, but the text is written on three separate lines) into a text box on a web page, and then presses a button which is then stored in a database via Django, and that string is read back and printed on a page, how can I get it to print on an HTML page with the newlines still in the text? So instead of it being printed back as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. It would print as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. I know that if I use: (textarea)soAndSo.body(/textarea), this preserves the newlines that were in the file when the user typed it up originally. How can I get this same effect, but without having to use textarea boxes?

• hg unshelve not working

  Our team is just getting started with Mercurial. One of the first things we've started to play with is hg shelve. Locally, I have no problem shelving changes. It all works perfectly from what I can tell. However, when I try to unshelve, I get the restoring backup files message, but when I run hg diff, there are no changes, and my changes are missing from the code. If i do hg unshelve -i I can see the diff, but again, trying to unshelve seems to have no effect. I've been trying to test it with some very simple changes that shouldn't be a problem in terms of conflicts, e.g. adding a test comment. I should note that I've tried hg unshelve -f after which it says unshelve completed but again, my changes are not restored. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? If it matters: Mercurial Distributed SCM (version 1.5.1+20100405)

• How much effort does it take to spoof an Ip Address in a call to a webservice?

  I don't want to know how... Just how complicated.... I'm thinking of securing a webservice or 2 based on the incoming client ipaddress of the caller. Is this in any way secure? Surely if the IPaddress was being spoofed then the result would have to be sent back to the address that was being spoofed and therefore not reach the spoofer? Update: Ok so from what I can tell.... I should create a Gettoken() method which checks the IPaddress and passes out a cryptographically significant token with a timeout to any valid IP address. This is then required by any other method before any kind of side effect is allowed. Since an Attacker can't (likely) get the token without having a valid IP, he will be unable to validly call any of my "dangerous" webmethods ?

  I'm learning Scala and I want to know the best way of expressing this imperative pattern using Scala's functional programming capabilities. def f(l: List[Int]): Boolean = { for (e <- l) { if (test(e)) return true } } return false } The best I can come up with is along the lines of: l map { e => test(e) } contains true But this is less efficient since it calls test() on each element, whereas the imperative version stops on the first element that satisfies test(). Is there a more idiomatic functional programming technique I can use to the same effect? The imperative version seems awkward in Scala.

  The docs say: The default implementation does not copy attribute values. If the attribute value may be mutable and implements the NSCopying protocol (as is the case with NSString, for example), you can copy the value in a custom accessor to help preserve encapsulation (for example, in the case where an instance of NSMutableString is passed as a value). So instead of getting into trouble and inconvenience with overwriting accessors in my NSManagedObject subclass, couldn't I simply do something like this? myManagedObject.firstName = [[firstNameMutableStr copy] autorelease]; This would have the exact same effect, or not? The dynamic implementation would retain that anyways ... so.... why not the easy way?

• jQuery changing css on navigation when div # scrolls into view

  I'm looking to recreate the effect used on this site: http://www.brizk.com/ The site uses one large page that scrolls down. As you scroll down and pass different sections the menu navigation on the left changes css class to "current" as the corresponding div comes into view. I presume this can be done with jQuery using $(window).height(); I'm fairly new to jQuery and what I want to write is something like this (in laymans terms): Get height of browser window – if div#content1 is 100px from top and/or 200px from bottom change menu a#link1 to '.current' – else remove .current from all menu a links ... and repeat for 4 different content divs. Can anyone point me in the right direction..?   I am not sure where the best place to put validation (using the Enterprise Library Validation Block) is? Should it be on the class or on the interface? Things that may effect it Validation rules would not be changed in classes which inherit from the interface. Validation rules would not be changed in classes which inherit from the class. Inheritance will occur from the class in most cases - I suspect some fringe cases to inherit from the interface (but I would try and avoid it). The interface main use is for DI which will be done with the Unity block.

  When launching a process with CreateProcessW(), is it possible to have the process created with a different MBCP locale/codepage then the one that is configured as the system-wide default code page? In the target process, this should have the same effect as calling _setmbcp(). The target process is not a unicode-enabled and uses a plain main(int argc, char **argv) entry point. I would like to be able to select the code page to which unicode arguments passed to CreateProcessW() are converted to be different from the system's default codepage for non-unicode programs.

• Has anyone ever bought an "Internet Connection" license for WSS 3.0?

  I would like to run a WSS 3.0 that is exposed to the internet and provides access to an arbitrary number of users through forms-based authentication. If the WSS licensing is analogous to that of MOSS, then there should be some special licensing required to make this legitimate. I have seen several vague statements on the internet about an "Internet Connection" license for WSS 3.0, and some more general statements from Mike Walsh to the effect that it costs "around $2000." But I have never seen anything official about this, and I'm not sure if I am even using the correct terminology. Has anyone actually purchased something resembling this license?

• Using htaccess rewrite to make a subdirectory be its own root for root relative path requests

  Can I use htaccess to capture requests from a certain subdirectory and make that directory use itself as the root directory for any root relative path requests? For example if I have... http://www.example.com/subFIXED/subANY/restofpath ...where subFIXED is always the same directory, subANY is any immediate subdirectory of subFIXED, and I want a redirection of all href/src requests from any file under subANY to use subANY as the 'root' (sort of like a subdomain), in effect having root level requests use this as the root directory level: http://www.example.com/subFIXED/subANY/ Instead of this: http://www.example.com/ I'm assuming I can put an htaccess file in subFIXED to handle all calls coming from anything under any subANY, but not being very familiar with htaccess rewriting, variables, etc., I can't figure out how to capture which subANY directory is making the root level request and then use that capture to make a rewrite to consider that directory the root level of any root relative path requests from it. • Getting a NullReferenceException Error when invoking a Select File Dialog Box

  Hey everyone This is a real newbie question. I have simple app that selects a picture and display's that picture in a PictureBox. I decided to mess with the Opacity Attribute so I added a timer and created this cool effect where the Main Form's Opacity is increased by 20% every 400 miliseconds. The problem is that now when I click the button that invokes the Select File Dialog Box I'm getting a NullReferenceException error. private void tmrClock_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (ViewerForm.ActiveForm.Opacity != 1) { ActiveForm.Opacity = ActiveForm.Opacity + .20; } } The error message is pointing to the if statement.   Hello, I am developing an application which has several CRUD actions... I am using Java and i am forced to use Struts framework. My problem is: I have a search page which returns some results.The user can click at a result and then he goes to another edit-page... He may apply changes or not...What i need is a way to return at the result page again and at the same scroll position.Javascript must be enabled for this project however.. I am wondering which is the best practice to achieve this effect... A solution would be to save the last search URL but i know that this wouldnt work if the user has multiple results. I know how to do it but i am lloking for a good practice!

  I was wondering, that if there is a weighted graph G(V,E), and I need to find a single shortest path between any two vertices S and T in it then I could have used the Dijkstras algorithm. but I am not sure how this can be done when we need to find all the distinct shortest paths from S to T. Is it solvable on O(n) time? I had one more question like if we assume that the weights of the edges in the graph can assume values only in certain range lets say 1 <=w(e)<=2 will this effect the time complexity?

  We are using Hibernate and ehcache as 2nd level cache. If I load an entity that is cached (e.g. cache-usage="read-write") and update it, it seems that this immediately results in an SQL UPDATE. (How) Can I influence when this SQL UPDATE happens? hibSession = HibernateUtil.getReadWriteSession(); tx = hibSession.beginTransaction(); User u = (User) hibSession.load(User.class, user_id); u.modify(); hibSession.update(u); tx.commit(); Edit: It seems that setting a CacheMode should have an effect, but each hibSession.update() results in an immediate SQL UPDATE, regardless which CacheMode I set.

  I have had the problem described in the question Tiling rectangles seamlessly in WPF, but am not really happy with the answers given there. I am painting a bar chart by painting lots of rectangles right next to each other. Depending on the scale of the canvas containing them, there are small gaps visible between some of them as a result from sub-pixel rendering. I learned from the above question how to make my rectangles fit with the screen pixels, removing that effect. Unfortunately, my chart may display way more bars than there are pixels. Apart from the tiny gaps (which manifest as a periodic change in color saturation), this works well. If I snap each bar with the screen pixels, most of the bars vanish, though, so I am looking for another solution. Thanks in advance!

• Slide through view controllers but not with the UISwipeGestureRecognizer

  Here is my issue, i got 5 view controllers and i can switch between them trough swipe with the UISwipeGestureRecognizer class and xcode's storyboard. So this works, but, i dont like the slide effect. I like to make it in a way so you can exactly slide the view to another by dragging it. • Load DOM before css?

  My jQuery code sets the height of an element to 0px as soon as the page loads, then animates it to 500px. In my CSS, this element is already set to 500px (in case anyone has javascript turned off). I tried 'DEFER' on the tag where I link to the stylesheet so that the CSS loads in last of all, but that causes a blank white page to show up between navigating through pages - which I don't want, because I lose the smooth page transition effects that I am after. Is there a way that I can set the height in the CSS to 0px and IF javascript IS turned off, have it set to 500px, perhaps? :\ That's what I'm after, in effect. Any ideas? Many thanks for your help.

  I want to change the link-style for some of my links, like this: a:hover { /* These links will be blue when hovered-over */ background-color: #3366FF; } However, I only want this to take effect in my Navigation Bar, and not for regular links. I have tried variations on this: #navbar a:hover { /* These links will be blue when hovered-over */ background-color: #3366FF; } With the intended meaning "this only applies to links with <div id="navbar">" But it didn't work. How can I set the style for only certain links, defined by the class or id of their container?
