  • Autorelease with elements in a UITableViewCell - memory leak

    In my 'cellForRowAtIndexPath' method for a UITableView delegate, I'm allocating a cell if it doesn't exist, and in this cell, I'm creating a new activity spinner like so: UIActivityIndicatorView *actView = [[[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc] initWithActivityIndicatorStyle:UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleGray ] autorelease]; I'm using Leaks to detect memory leaks in my program, and for some reason, this is coming up as a leak, even though it's autoreleasing. The cell itself is also autoreleasing. Has anyone had experience with autoreleasing variables coming up as leaks in the Leaks instrument, and how to tackle these problems? Also, if it helps, this is the history Leaks is displaying for this memory location. It looks like it at some point gets an additional retain message? This is not being done in my code.

  • Permits in iPhone apps

  • Cocoa : How do I catch drag operations initiated from an IKBrowserView?

    So I've got an IKBrowserView all wired up and happily dragging my custom datatype (provided lazily via PasteboardItem) from one window to another, but now I'm interested in detecting when the user drops some data onto the trashcan. Cocoa's documentation says to check the return type of the drag operation itself, but how exactly do I do this with an IKBrowserView? Once I call imageBrowser:writeItemsAtIndexes:toPasteboard: I don't seem to get any notifications other than the request for the pasteboard contents, which doesn't provide a pointer to the drag operation that invoked it.

  • Retrieving Spotlight query used to open document in application

    If you search for something that opens Preview.app (e.g. a PDF file) in Spotlight, the application not only opens the file but actually copies the Spotlight query into the application's search field (for deeper search). iPhoto and Mail.app also do this. This is a really nice feature. Unfortunately, Apple does not document how it's implemented. Opening a document from Spotlight appears to simply send application:openFile to the application delegate. Is it possible to retrieve the user's Spotlight query somehow? Or is this a hardcoded feature of Spotlight?

  • Having trouble hiding keyboard using invisible button which sits on top of uiscrollview

    I have 3 items in play... 1) UIView sits at the base of the hierarchy and contains the UIScrollview. 2) UIScrollview that is presenting a lengthy user form. 3) An invisible button on the UIScrollview that I'm using to provide "hide the keyboard" features. Notice in the code below that I'm registering to be notified when the keyboard is going to appear and again when it's going to disappear. These are working great. My problem is seemingly one of "layers". See below where I insert the button into the view atIndex:0. This causes the button to be activated and "stuffed" behind the scrollview so that when you click on it, the scrollview grabs the touch and the button is unaware. There is no way to "reach" the button and suppress the keyboard. However, if I insert atIndex:1, the button gets super imposed on top of the text entry fields and so any touch at all is acted upon by the button, which immediately suppresses the keyboard and then disappears. How do I insert the button on top of the UIScrollview but behind the UITextfields that sit there? other logistics: I have a -(void) hidekeyboard function that I have setup with the UIButtion as an IBAction(). And I have the UIButton connected to "files owner" via a ctrl-drag/drop. (Do I need both of those conventions?) This code in ViewDidLoad()... There's an hardcoded way to do this: NSString *appDir = [[[NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) objectAtIndex:0] stringByDeletingLastPathComponent] stringByAppendingPathComponent:appFolder]; where appFolder is the name of folder app, like "test.app". After the appDir is known, to access files is simple. Is there any other, not-hardcoded way to have access to files form the app? Thanks in Advance!

    I've just downloaded the Facebook iOS SDK and I noticed that in the sample code that comes with the SDK whenever it creates an instance of the Facebook class it does it like this: _facebook = [[[[Facebook alloc] init] autorelease] retain]; where _facebook is a member variable of the calling object (i.e. not a local variable). Can anyone explain exactly what's the point of autoreleasing and then retaining it?

    I am trying to set a fetch request with a predicate to obtain records in the store whose identifiers attribute match an array of identifiers specified in the predicate e.g. NSString *predicateString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"identifier IN %@", employeeIDsArray]; The employeeIDsArray contains a number of NSNumber objects that match IDs in the store. However, I get an error "Unable to parse the format string". This type of predicate works if it is used for filtering an array, but as mentioned, fails for a core data fetch. How should I set the predicate please?

  • UISearchBar in UINavigationBar with ScopeBar

    I am trying to put a UISearchBar inside of the UINavigationBar, which I am able to do without much problem. The problem is that I have logic when editing to show the Scope Bar. This all works fine, with one exception. The navigation bar tries to center the UISearchBar inside of the title view. This causes the search bar to move up above the navigation bar. I tried adding some logic to set the frame of the search bar so that it just draws overtop of my main view, which is fine. I can only set the height, which causes the search bar to draw over the view just fine, but it isn't wide enough to cover the whole screen. If I set the width on the frame, it goes back to the same behavior of trying to center the UISearchBar on the navigation bar. Anyone know how I can accomplish this? Thanks, Nick

I currently think that I am not formatting the results of the NSFetchRequest in the NSArray properly if I had to take a guess.
