  • "Thunderbird is already running" error every time I try to start Thunderbird, even if it is not running

    I cannot open Thunderbird. The process isn't running, but when I click on the icon, I get the the following error: Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system. I've tried the following: Ending the task in Task Manager Deleting parent.lock Uninstalling Thunderbird Uninstalling Firefox Running Thunderbird in software "safe mode" and Windows safe mode What can I do to fix this problem? The problem looks more serious than expected. I do not see any Mail folder in my profile at C:\Users\your-username\AppData\Mozilla\Thunderbird. I think I lost my email.

  • How to force Weblogic to start deployments in active state (i.e. not just prepared)

    When I start a Weblogic instance with a deployed application, the deployment is sometimes left in prepared state, not in active state. I have to go to Weblogic Console and start the deployment manually, which is quite slow and annoying repetetive work. Since this is done on a development machine — sometimes 50 times a day, — there are no security implication as the server is only visible on the local network. Is there some way to have it always start the deployment active? Note that I'm not redeploying the application, I instead have it "constantly deployed" and stop/start the Weblogic instance using the scripts in bin directory.

  • Asterisk: Dropping calls with an "ast_yyerror"

    I'm having an issue where asterisk will play our greeting to the caller, and then drop the call instead of making our phones ring. The bit of information I could find said it was caused by an error in evaluating a dialplan expression.   • How can I figure out exactly which process is keeping my Mac from going to sleep and waking it up?

    I have read this knowledgebase article, but would like to know if there's a way to tell exactly which process is causing my Mac not to follow the sleep schedule I have set in System Preferences Energy Saver. I have narrowed it down to a being a process and will explain why I think so (see below). I am running OS X (10.6.5) on the new iMac 27" and I am certain it's not the following: The "Wake for Network Access" checkbox in Energy Saver settings (has never been a previous issue) Peripherals (has never been a previous issue) Any active GUI application (all are closed) Additional USB/FireWire drives (none are connected) Bluetooth (it's off) Sharing services (has never been a previous issue) The symptoms are as follows: The computer doesn't go to sleep at the predetermined time. It will wake up some number of hours after being put manually to sleep (but not within the first few seconds/minutes.) Is there a specific string I should be looking for in Console? I have tried searching for "wake" and "sleep" but can't make total sense of the results.

  • How to send Event signal through Processes - C

    Hello all! I have an application consisting of two windows, one communicates to the other and sends it a struct constaining two integers (In this case two rolls of a dice). I will be using events for the following circumstances: Process a sends data to process b, process b displays data Process a closes, in turn closing process b Process b closes a, in turn closing process a I have noticed that if the second process is constantly waiting for the first process to send data then the program will be just sat waiting, which is where the idea of implementing threads on each process occurred and I have started to implement this already. The problem i'm having is that I don't exactly have a lot of experience with threads and events so I'm not sure of the best way to actually implement what I want to do. I'm trying to work out how the other process will know of the event being fired so it can do the tasks it needs to do, I don't understand how one process that is separate from another can tell what the states the events are in especially as it needs to act as soon as the event has changed state. Thanks for any help Edit: I can only use the Create/Set/Open methods for events, sorry for not mentioning it earlier.

  • What is normal SCSI error handling process (scsi_eh_3) CPU time usage?

    Last week I got setup with a new dedicated server that is running 4x SCSI drives in RAID 10 on CentOS. The machine is pretty lightly loaded at the moment and has been running for 8 days. The process 'scsi_eh_3' has a CPU time of 13:09.67 in top. This is 3x the next closest CPU time of 4:03.93 for mysqld. Is it normal for the scsi error handling process to use this much CPU time? (Seems like it goes to 0.3% usage ever 5 seconds.) Could this be an indicator that one or more of the drives is having issues?

  • Is LSB's init script function "start_daemon" really used for real daemons or should I stick to start-stop-daemon?

    In the context of init scripts, according to the LSB specification, "Each conforming init script shall execute the commands in the file /lib/lsb/init-function", which then defines a couple of functions to be used when using daemons. One of those functions is start_daemon, which obviously "runs the specified program as a daemon" while checking if the daemon is already running. I'm in the process of daemonizing a service app of mine, and I'm looking at how other daemons are run to try to "fit in". In the process of looking how it's done elsewhere, I noticed that not a single daemon on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine uses start_daemon. They all call start-stop-daemon directly. Same goes for my Fedora 14 machine. Should I try to play nice and be the first one to use start_daemon, or is there really no point and start-stop-daemon is the way to go since everybody is already using that? Why is there no daemons using LSB's functions?

Am looking for a simple, efficient calculation. Update 1 The problem is the end date cannot simply use the year. The year must be increased if the end month/day combination happens before the start date. The start date is easy: Start Date = date( concat_ws( '-', year, Start Month, Start Day ) ) The end date is not so simple. Update 2 Here is what I was thinking about for obtaining the end year: end_year = case sign( diff( date( concat_ws( year, start_month, start_day ) ), date( concat_ws( year, end_month, end_day ) ) ) ) when -1 then Start_Year + 1 else Start_Year end case Then wrap that expression (once syntactically correct) inside of another date, followed by BETWEEN statement.     Ok , I know the two standard ways to create a new thread and run it in Java : 1 Implement Runnable in a class , define run method ,and pass an instance of the class to a new Thread. When the start method on the thread instance is called , the run method of the class instance will be invoked. 2 Let the class derive from Thread, so it can to override the method run() and then when a new instance's start method is called , the call is routed to overridden method. In both methods , basically a new Thread object is created and its start method invoked. However , while in the second method , the mechanism of the call being routed to the user defined run() method is very clear ,( its a simple runtime polymorphism in play ), I dont understand how the call to start method on the Thread object gets routed to run() method of the class implementing Runnable interface. Does the Thread class have an private field of Type Runnable which it checks first , and if it is set then invokes the run method if it set to an object ? that would be a strange mechanism IMO. How does the call to start() on a thread get routed to the run method of the Runnable interface implemented by the class whose object is passed as a parameter when contructing the thread ?

  • How do you program a windows service in C# to start an application for a user?

    Is it possible to start a program so that it is available to a user with a windows service? I have been working with the Process.Start() in C#. I can get the service to kickoff some sort of process that appears in the Task Manager list under processes. However, the program nevers appears on the screen. By default, it runs under the user name "SYSTEM". I have adjusted the "Log On" option in the service manager to match the person logged into the computer, but this does not cause a window to appear either. I feel like I am either missing a simple setting, or need to take a different direction for this.   • How to get the pid of a running process using a single command that parse the output of ps?

    I am looking for a single line that does return the pid of a running process. Currently I have: ps -A -o pid,cmd|grep xxx|head -n 1 And this returns the fist pid, command. I need only the first number from the output and ignore the rest. I suppose sed or awk would help here but my experience with them is limited. Also, this has another problem, it will return the pid of grep if the xxx is not running. It's really important to have a single line, as I want to reuse the output for doing something else, like killing that process.

    I've set up IIS6 with FastCGI to use php-cgi.exe. I have some php websites by external parties, that I'm trying to run in a test environment. One of the websites just plain gives me a FastCGI Error Page. Question: Is there some way to enable logging somewhere so that I can get a bit more information on this problem? I have looked in Eventlog IIS Website log (c:\windows\system32\Logfiles) PHP log But no results, except the IIS Website log mentions a return of a 500 page.     Hello, I am using the .NET 4.0 client profile for my app and I run a dual core with 4 GB Ram and a fast hard disk. nothing big is done at the start just showing a generic List in a wpf listview. How can I make the cold start faster of my assembly ? I have done now again a cold start and run the windowsapplication.exe in my \obj\x86\Debug folder and my harddisk run like hell and it took 10,5 seconds ??? What is wrong? The warm start after the cold one took 1 second. Java 6 apps has not that problem, not at all just to compare...

If so, when does it become not valid; i.e., how do I ensure that I can call waitpid on the child pid and continue to get valid exit status information after an arbitrary amount of time, and how do I "clean up" (tell the OS that I am no longer interested in the exit status information for the finished child process)?     The Last Result column of the Scheduled Tasks Window on Windows Server 2003, displays the result of the execution of the .exe, .vbs, .ps1, .bat, .cmd, etc... that has been run at the scheduled time. There is also an archived history of this value that appears in the Scheduled Tasks Log (Found on the Scheduled Tasks Window under the Advanced->View Log) Now my question is, if I'm running a scheduled task that is a .exe, .vbs, .ps1, .bat, .cmd, etc... how do I use that process to return a specific Last Result when the process ends? P.S. If you think this question should be split up into smaller parts since I'm painting pretty broadly with it, just let me know and I'll split it into subsequent smaller questions

    Hi I am running some latency sensitive program on a Linux machine (more specifically, CentOS 6), and I don't want the threads of the process being preempted. So in my plan, the first step is to set cpu affinity of the threads so that threads are running on separate cores, so they don't preempt each other. Then the second step is to make sure other processes in the system not running on these cores. So my question is: is it possible to restrict the whole system running on certain cores, except this process? This should apply to any newly created processes in the future.
