• SubSonic IQueryable To String Array

  Hey All, I have decided to use SubSonic (v3.0) for the first time and thoroughly enjoy it so far however I seem to have stumbled and I am hoping there is a nice neat solution. I have a users, roles and joining table. SubSonic (ActiveRecord) generated an entity User for my users table. A property of User is UserRoles and is of the type IQueryable this is my joining table. I want to convert the IQueryable column name RoleName to a string array. I have only just started playing with Linq as well and know of ToArray() but seem to be missing something or this isn't the function I want. I could iterate over each item in the UserRoles property but seems a little excessive. I appreciate your help! Cheers.

  I've been doing something along the lines of.. $dt1 = '1000-01-01 00:00:00'; //really some val from db $dt2 = '1000-01-01 00:00:10'; //another val maybe db maybe formatted if(strtotime($dt1) > strtotime($dt2){ //do something } Is the strtotime needed? can i do a more direct comparison on the datetime formatted strings? i.e. if($dt1 > $dt2){ //do something } Will that always work?

• Integer comparison as string

  Hi I have an integer column and I want to find numbers that start with specific digits. For example they do match if I look for '123': 1234567 123456 1234 They do not match: 23456 112345 0123445 Is the only way to handle the task by converting the Integers into Strings before doing string comparison? Also I am using Postgre regexp_replace(text, pattern, replacement) on numbers which is very slow and inefficient way doing it. The case is that I have large amount of data to handle this way and I am looking for the most economical way doing this.

• smarter character replacement using ruby gsub and regexp

  Hi guys! I'm trying to create permalink like behavior for some article titles and i don't want to add a new db field for permalink. So i decided to write a helper that will convert my article title from: "O "focoasa" a pornit cruciada, împotriva barbatilor zgârciti" to "o-focoasa-a-pornit-cruciada-impotriva-barbatilor-zgarciti". While i figured out how to replace spaces with hyphens and remove other special characters (other than -) using: title.gsub(/\s/, "-").gsub(/[^\w-]/, '').downcase I am wondering if there is any other way to replace a character with a specific other character from only one .gsub method call, so I won't have to chain title.gsub("a", "a") methods for all the UTF-8 special characters of my localization. I was thinking of building a hash with all the special characters and their counterparts but I haven't figured out yet how to use variables with regexps. What I was looking for is something like: title.gsub(/\s/, "-").gsub(*replace character goes here*).gsub(/[^\w-]/, '').downcase Thanks!

• Reading string value from Excel with HSSF but it's double

  Hi, I'm using HSSF-POI for reading excel data. The problem is I have values in a cell that look like a number but really are strings. If I look at the format cell in Excel, it says the type is "text". Still the HSSF Cell thinks it's numeric. How can I get the value as a string? If I try to use cell.getRichStringValue, I get exception; if cell.toString, it's not the exact same value as in Excel sheet. Thanks! edit: until this gets resolved, I'll use new BigDecimal(cell.getNumericCellValue()).toString()

• Change My.Settings ConnectionString in runtime?

  I have a ClickOnce deployment where i have a INI-settings file on the network file with "global" settings that is supposed to affect the program on all client computers. The problem i have is that i whant to have the Database connectionString stored in this INI file and have it read and stored in the My.Settings ConnectionString at program startup. How do i do this? The ConnectionString setting is Application scoped and therefore Read-Only, if i try to set it by My.Settings("ConnectionString") = "Source=server;Initial Catalog=database;Integrated Security=True" I get a runtime error: An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: The type initializer for 'DB_lib.DB_LINQ' threw an exception. [EDIT] I got rid of the error by using the My.Settings("ConnectionString") = "Source=server;Initial Catalog=database;Integrated Security=True" in another place then the the eventtriggerd settingsLoaded method i created.. The problem is that even though the connectionstring semes to be the right, the program still connects to the "default" database that is typed in to the app.config file??

  Is there a way to append something to the query string with no value set? I would like to see this kind of URL being generated: http://local/things?magic. What I'm looking for is when the user goes to http://local/other?magic then every URL in the generated page would contain magic in the end. Following code is almost a solution but it gives me http://local/things?magic=. There is an extra = that I don't want there. def default_url_options(options) if params.has_key?("magic") { :magic => "" } end end Setting { :magic => nil } will remove the magic entirely from the generated URLs.

• How to format a date as localized Short MonthDay string

  I would like to format a DateTime to a string containing the month name abbreviated and the date for use in axis labels in a graph. The default DateTime format strings do not contain abbreviated month. I guess there is no standard but I could take a substring of the first 3 characters of the month name and replace this into the MonthDay format.   I am using Joda Time library to convert my String dates to a real date, because this seemed like the easiest solution to do this.   Hey I am looking for theory, algorithms and similar for how to compare music. More specifically, I am looking into how to dupecheck music tracks that have different bitrates or perhaps slightly different variations (radio vs album version), but otherwise sound the same. Use cases for this include services such as Grooveshark, Youtube, etc. where they get a lot of duplicate tracks. I am also interested in text comparisons (Britney Spers vs Britney Spears, how far they deviate, etc.) although this is secondary and I already have some sources to go on in this area. I am mostly interested in codec-agnostic comparison techniques and algoritms (assuming a "raw" stream), but codec-specific resources are appreciated. I am aware of projects such as musicbrainz.org, but have not investigated it further, and would be interested if such projects could be of help in this endeavor.

  I have a list that I need to parse where the all but the last element needs to be parsed by one parser, and the last element needs to be parsed by another parser. a = "p1 p1b ... p2" or a = "p2" Originally I tried parser = do parse1 <- many parser1 parse2 <- parser2 return AParse parse1 parse2 The problem is that parse1 can consume a parse2 input. So parse1 always consumes the entire list, and leave parse2 with nothing. Is there a way to say to apply parse1 to everything besides the last element in a string, and then apply parse2?

• How to trim whitespace from bash variable?

  I have a shell script with this code: var=`hg st -R "$path"` if [ -n "$var" ]; then echo $var fi But the conditional code always executes because hg st always prints at least one newline character. Is there a simple way to strip whitespace from $var (like trim() in php)? or Is there a standard way of dealing with this issue? I could use sed or awk, but I'd like to think there is a more elegant solution to this problem.

  I have the following code: printf("num: %d\n", strcasecmp(buf, "h\n")); And I get the following results when I try plugging in different letters: a: -7 g: -1 i: 1 j: 2 h: 156 H: 156 Should strcasecmp not return 0 when buf is equal to H or h? Any ideas why it's returning 156? I need to figure out how to check whether the user types H or h. Thanks!

• Converting non-delimited text into name/value pairs in Delphi

  I've got a text file that arrives at my application as many lines of the following form: <row amount="192.00" store="10" transaction_date="2009-10-22T12:08:49.640" comp_name="blah " comp_ref="C65551253E7A4589A54D7CCD468D8AFA" name="Accrington "/> and I'd like to turn this 'row' into a series of name/value pairs in a given TStringList (there could be dozens of these <row>s in the file, so eventually I will want to iterate through the file breaking each row into name/value pairs in turn). The problem I've got is that the data isn't obviously delimited (technically, I suppose it's space delimited). Now if it wasn't for the fact that some of the values contain leading or trailing spaces, I could probably make a few reasonable assumptions and code something to break a row up based on spaces. But as the values themselves may or may not contain spaces, I don't see an obvious way to do this. Delphi' TStringList.CommaText doesn't help, and I've tried playing around with Delimiter but I get caught-out by the spaces inside the values each time. Does anyone have a clever Delphi technique for turning the sample above into something resembling this? ; amount="192.00" store="10" transaction_date="2009-10-22T12:08:49.640" comp_name="blah " comp_ref="C65551253E7A4589A54D7CCD468D8AFA" name="Accrington " Unfortunately, as is usually the case with this kind of thing, I don't have any control over the format of the data to begin with - I can't go back and 'make' it comma delimited at source, for instance.   Looking for a quick and dirty way to parse Australian street addresses into its parts: 3A/45 Jindabyne Rd, Oakleigh, VIC 3166 should split into: "3A", 45, "Jindabyne Rd" "Oakleigh", "VIC", 3166 Suburb names can have multiple words, as can street names. See: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1739746/parse-a-steet-address-into-components Has to be in Java, cannot make http requests (e.g. to web APIs). EDIT: Assume that format specified is always followed. I have no issue with spitting incorrectly formatted strings back at the user with a message telling them to follow the format (which I've described above).
