• Modal MessageBox for ASP.NET without jQuery

  I have an assembly with custom ASP.NET server controls that is used in several, mostly in-house, ASP.NET 2.0 applications. The server controls use simple modal popup messageboxes, which are currently implemented using the javascript alert and confirm functions. I want to release a new version of this assembly that uses a better solution for messageboxes, including support for Yes/No buttons. The appearance would be something like a simplified version of the Ajax Control Toolkit ModalPopup extender (sample here). My constraints are that this should be as easy as possible to integrate into existing ASP.NET 2.0 applications without introducing new dependencies: ideally just drop in a new version of the assembly, that contains all the javascript it needs as an embedded resource, and possibly a CSS file. Because of this constraint, I am not considering solutions I've seen that use jquery, or the ASP.NET Ajax Control Toolkit, which appears to require adding elements to pages that use the extenders (ScriptManagers and the like). Any recommendations?

  Hi everybody, I've got some lists inside lists to make some fancy drop-down menus. e.g <ul> <li>something <ul> <li>sub menu</li> </ul> </li> </ul> Problem is, w3c doesn't like it. Is there a way to make this validate or this just one of these hacks that browsers can render, but w3c dislikes?

  I have been looking around the internet for a script which would use google translate api to translate a website automatically through a geoip script without the need of clicking translate button. • Superfish Supersubs <li> menu items width

  I've been stuck on this one for some time now and would really appreciate some assistance. I'm developing a superfish horizontal dropdown menu. I would like to know how to, using supersubs, set the width of the dropdown menu items to that of the largest items width in the drop down. The default is : $('ul.sf-menu').supersubs({ minWidth: 40, maxWidth: 41, extraWidth: 1 }).superfish(); I would like something like : $('ul.sf-menu').supersubs({ minWidth: 40, **maxWidth: auto or 100%**, extraWidth: 1 }).superfish(); I would appreciate any help at all. • RDLC - Adding a Data Source in VS2010

  Greetings. I have an RDLC file and am wanting to add a data source to it, although without any luck so far. The data source is a custom class written by myself (just to add, we do this all the time). We recently converted over to the VS2010 RDLC format which caused some problems, but we've made some changes to our implementation that workaround the more major issues. So, back to the issue at hand, when I attempt to add my data source to the DummyDataSource list in the RDLC view in VS2010 it just does nothing, however it does add the data source to the list of data sources, but you can't select it from the drop-down list in the RDLC view which means I can't add the data source at all. Has anyone come across this problem? Is there anything I need to check? I've searched with fervour and had no luck.

• MYSQL stored function - create function (function definition) problem using FORMAT

  Hi all, I keep receiving an error with the following code. I am trying to make a function that will format a field (content=0.0032) into a varchar/percent (content=0.32%). At the moment i'm just trying to get format to work, and it throws up an error "Error Code : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'len);" The function definition for "Format" is "Format(X,d)" where x is the number and d is the number of decimal places to round too. • Zend Studio Intellisense + zend Framework

  Hi. I've got a very annoying problem with my Zend studio. I have a zend framework project I am working on. The actual zend framework code is inside my project (in library folder) and then ZS seems to reference to its own version of zend framework. As the result, I get 2 versions of the same function/class in my intellisense which is annoying to say the least. Today I had the last drop of patience with zend studio when I showed 4 copies of the same class (imagine what's its like looking at a large namespace times 4!). So, how do I remove all references inside ZS to its own version of ZF? Thanks!

• OWC does not work with IE8

  Hi, I have a web page that is generated with Access 2003 and uses Office Web Components. It worked fine with IE6 and IE7 but does not work anymore with IE8. Here are more details. I create an MSODSC component and a WSH object to get my ConnectionString in the registry. Then the Dropdown Lists are fed by a request to the database. It works perfect with IE6 and IE7, works locally with IE8 but if the page is served by IIS to IE8, the drop down lists are empty. Can anyone help me ? Thanks Mactov

• Good IDE for Mono on Windows

  I would like to develop Mono application for Win/Linux/Mac in C# on Windows. Is there any really good (Visual Studio comparable) IDE for that? The best would be if I could manage Visual C# Express to compile solutions using the Mono compiler. I've found a #develop IDE, which looks very cool and has many features that Express edition of the Visual Studio hasn't (like plugins for TortoiseSVN, NUnit, etc). Hovewer the 3.* versions dropped support for Mono, so you are no longer able to compile solutions using the Mono compiler. There is also a MonoDevelop. I've tried it and it sucks. Not comparable to Visual Studio at all. No WinForms designer, + tons of other missing features. I would just like if they would drop the development of MonoDevelop and build a plugin for #develop instead. Is there any other good enough IDE, or is it possible to make the Visual C# Express or #develop compile the solutions with Mono compiler?

  I'm looking for a good JavaScript tree / treegrid package. Now -- before you answer: It needs to be able to perform well with lots of nodes. Perhaps 1,000 sibling nodes. It needs to be able to draw to a usable state within 2 or 3 seconds with 1,000 nodes. It doesn't necessarily need to draw all 1,000 nodes at once -- if it supports some sort of "smart rendering" or fake scrolling. Beyond that, column resizing, drag and drop, inline editing would all be nice, although I could probably add that functionality myself. I've already tried dojo's tree and yahoo's YUI treeview. Both are too slow.

Let's say I have a form with many select drop-downs and do this... $('#a_form select').each(function(index) { }); When inside this loop I want to loop over each of the options, but I can't figure out how to do this, is it something like this....? $('#a_form select').each(function(index) { $(this + 'option').each(function(index) { //do things }); }); I can't quite get it to work, and advice? • Creating a user-defined code generation system in PHP

  My newest project that I'm looking to build with CodeIgniter would require some sort of system that would allow a user to drag and drop pre-defined functions/methods into mini-classes/objects and then run/test them in the browser. So it'd something similar to Scratch. I've designed a relational database that I think could work for this (storing the function names and have these classes "subscribe" to those functions) - but I'm wondering whether or not to go ahead with it. Is there a better way to do this or is there a system out there that would accomplish this for me? EDIT: It would have to be extremely simple for an end user, but hopefully be flexible enough to easily add more complex functionality in the future.

• Suggestion for dragster/dropzone like dock menu

  I'd like to create a dragster/dropzone like dock menu. Looks a bit like a stack with a nsview in it. After a lot if documentation searching and googling I've found a way to determine a dock icon's location. (http://cocoadev.com/forums/comments.php?DiscussionID=1431) Is nzbdrop creating a view which just looks like an stack to display it's menu or is there a better way of creating this? Additional info: I'm not looking for the drop like functionality just the nice way the DropBox window is displayed as an bubble/stack menu on top of it's app icon.

• Modifying SQL Server Schema Collection

  SQL Server XML Schema Collection is an interesting concept and I find it very useful when designing dynamic data content. However as I work my way through implementing Schema Collections, I find it very difficult to maintain them. Schema Collection DDL allows only CREATE and ALTER/ADD nodes to existing schemes. CREATE XML SCHEMA COLLECTION [ <relational_schema>. ]sql_identifier AS 'XSD Content' ALTER XML SCHEMA COLLECTION [ <relational_schema>. ]sql_identifier ADD 'Schema Component' When you want to remove any node from a schema you have to issue following DDL's. If that schema collection assigned to a table column, you have to alter table to remove schema collection association from that column Drop the schema collection object Re-Create schema collection Alter table column to re-associate schema collection to that column. This is pain when it comes to 100+ of schemes in a collection. Also you have to re-create XML indexes all over again, if any. Any solutions, suggestions, tricks to make this schema collection object editing process easier?

• SSRS 2008 + SSL displays 404 not found

  Hi, I have SQL reporting services configured to use a secure certificate and when I visit both Reports and ReportManager I get a 404 not found error. The reporting services logs do not contain any error information. I am a bit at a loss to know where to start to diagnose this problem, especially as SSRS is not using IIS. I created the SSL binding using the Reporting Services Configuration Manager; IP Address: (All IPv4) SSL Port: 443 Certificate: {the certicate was present in the drop down list} URL: https://mydomain:444/Reports What can I check to get this working? • Synchronize model in MySQL Workbench

  After reading the documentation for MySQL Workbench I got the impression that it's possible to alter a database in the server (e.g. add a new column) and later incorporate the DDL changes into your EER diagram. At least, it has a Synchronize Model option in the Database menu. I found it a nice feature because I could use a graphic modelling tool without becoming its prisoner. In practice, when I run such tool I'm offered these options: Model Update Source ================ ====== ====== my_database_name --> ! N/A my_table_name --> ! N/A N/A --> ! my_database_name N/A --> ! my_table_name I can't really understand it, but leaving it as is I basically get: DROP SCHEMA my_database_name CREATE SCHEMA my_database_name CREATE TABLE my_table_name This is dump of the model that overwrites all remote changes in my_table_name. Am I misunderstanding the feature?

• A good web 'desktop' JavaScript, CSS, or both, library that likes ASP.NET Web Forms

  I've come across, in passing, several suites of functions, widgets, frameworks, etc. that seek to produce a desktop like experience on the web. Most are JavaScript and CSS tools that handle web content on an emulation of the desktop-paradigmed UI, e.g. TreeView + Content == Explorer. Is there such a library nicely compatible with ASP.NET Forms without weeks of grief? I'll also settle for something similar, but instead of native ASP.NET, a library for any of the open source CMS products for ASP.NET. (Umbraco is at the top of my list, followed by mojoPortal. I aspire to the level of coding their creators easily demonstrate in the product. [PS, I don't want a 'desktop' ux per se, just light and simple dynamic layout for drag 'n drop, dock windows, a dock bar?.. and other fancy magic.

• Team Build MSBuild Task Does Not Update Main Build Log File

  I have an after build event in my main TFSBuild.proj file that uses the MSBuild task to call a deployment task after a successful build. Is there an easy way to capture this information?

• 503 (Server Unavailable) WebException when loading local XHTML file in Visual C# 2008

So I'm currently working on an ePub reader application, and I've been reading through a bunch of regular XML files just fine with System.Xml and XmlDocument: XmlDocument xmldoc = new XmlDocument(); xmldoc.Load(Path.Combine(Directory.GetCurrentDirectory(), "META-INF/container.xml")); XmlNodeList xnl = xmldoc.GetElementsByTagName("rootfile"); However, now I'm trying to open the XHTML files that contain the actual book text, and they're XHTML files. Now I don't really know the difference between the two, but I'm getting the following error with this code (in the same document, using the same XmlDocument and XmlNodeList variable) xmldoc.Load(Path.Combine(Directory.GetCurrentDirectory(), "OEBPS/part1.xhtml")); "WebException was unhandled: The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable" It's a local document, so I'm not understanding why it's giving this error? • Running SQL script through psql gives syntax errors that don't occur in PgAdmin

  Hi I have the following script to create a table: -- Create State table. DROP TABLE IF EXISTS "State" CASCADE; CREATE TABLE "State" ( StateID SERIAL PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL, StateName VARCHAR(50) ); It runs fine in the query tool of PgAdmin. But when I try to run it from the command line using psql: psql -U postgres -d dbname -f 00101-CreateStateTable.sql I get a syntax error as shown below. 2: ERROR: syntax error at or near "" LINE 1: ^ psql:00101-CreateStateTable.sql:6: NOTICE: CREATE TABLE will create implicit sequence "State_stateid_seq" for serial column "State.stateid" psql:00101-CreateStateTable.sql:6: NOTICE: CREATE TABLE / PRIMARY KEY will create implicit index "State_pkey" for table "State" CREATE TABLE Why do I get a syntax error using psql and not with PGAdmin? • Programmatically change the default code page in Windows XP? (from Delphi)

  Could anyone advise how to programmatically change the default Windows XP code page (I'm doing this from Delphi)? (This would be the equivalent of going into Control Panel - Regional Settings - Language for non-Unicode applications). In this case, I want to switch to Chinese (PRC) and so am writing to the following registry strings: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage\ ACP=936 MACCP=10008 OEMCP=936 (Which is exactly what changing the non-Unicode codepage drop down in Control Panel does). There must be another setting which I need to change - and I'd prefer to use a Win API call (if available) rather than writing to the registry myself. I've also tried setting HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\Language\ Default=0804 (Chinese PRC) to no avail. I don't want to change the 'locale' per se as this will also change time / date settings, separators, etc. etc. This is because I'm using an ANSI application that needs to render Chinese characters, and I'm writing a tool to automatically switch the system show the characters (while leaving other aspects of the UI intact). • Jquery UI Slider - Input a Value and Slider Move to Location

  I was wondering if anyone has found a solution or example to actually populating the input box of a slider and having it slide to the appropriate position onBlur() .. Currently, as we all know, it just updates this value with the position you are at. So in some regards, I am trying to reverse the functionality of this amazing slider. One link I found: http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-177578.html is a bit outdated, but looks like they made an attempt. However, the links to the results do not exist. I am hoping that there may be a solution out there. I know Filament has re-engineered the slider to handle select (drop down) values, and it works flawlessly.. So the goal would be to do the same, but with an input text box. Any help would be incredible! Thanks in Advance!! Robert

• Is there any real benefit to using ASP.Net Authentication with ASP.Net MVC?

  I've been researching this intensely for the past few days. We're developing an ASP.Net MVC site that needs to support 100,000+ users. We'd like to keep it fast, scalable, and simple. We have our own SQL database tables for user and user_role, etc. We are not using server controls. Given that there are no server controls, and a custom membershipProvider would need to be created, where is there any benefit left to use ASP.Net Auth/Membership? The other alternative would seem to be to create custom code to drop a UniqueID CustomerID in a cookie and authenticate with that. Or, if we're paranoid about sniffers, we could encrypt the cookie as well. Is there any real benefit in this scenario (MVC and customer data is in our own tables) to using the ASP.Net auth/membership framework, or is the fully custom solution a viable route?
