• What editions of Windows Server 2008 support print server?

  Client is creating a server that will be running our website and dual purposed to act as a print server. We're trying to determine if Server 2008 Web Edition supports being a print server, however the comparison chart I found here only mentions Internet Print Client. Unfortunately I work at a software company, so no one knows, and Microsoft's feature comparison isn't being incredibly helpful. If Web Edition does not support Print Server, what is the recommended edition for a Web and Print server machine?

• Windows 7 Ultimate Restore From Another Machine

  The situation I have an old machine running Windows Server 2008. I make a backup of selected directories. New Machine: I install Windows 7 Ultimate (and Windows Server 2008 [dual boot]) I cannot restore those files that I backed-up on the old machine. On the New machine neither the Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 Restore (Recovery) can 'see' the backup files even though they are on the local machine. Is this behaviour (non-behaviour) 'by design' or am I missing something?

  I sometimes gets an ip address of 169.254.111.111 received for my laptop (instead of one in the 10.0.0.x range). I thought it was a problem with my Ubuntu system, but after I dual-booted I got the same problem under Windows Vista with the same laptop. What's the problem, why does it happens only sometimes, and how can it be solved? For the record: I'm using a Linksys WRT610N wireless router.

• Windows 8 Fails to resume from sleep

  I have this weird issue. When I put the computer to sleep by pressing the power button, or using the sleep option in Charms, I can wake it up normally. However, if I close the lid, and later reopen it, all the fans come on, but nothing appears on the screen. I didn't have this issue using Windows 7. • Should I worry about the integrity of my linux software RAID5 after a crash or kernel panic?

  I have a dual core Intel i5 Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS system running kernel 2.6.32-22-server #33-Ubuntu SMP with three 1TB SATA hard drives set up in a RAID5 array using linux md devices. I have read about the RAID5 write hole and am concerned: if my linux system locks up or kernel panics, should I be assume that the integrety of my data has been compromised and restore from backup? How can I know if the data on the RAID5 array is "safe"?

• Can I copy my Windows recovery partition to a usb and boot from it?

  Of course it's not quite this easy, but are there steps for doing this sort of thing? It's a long story but I was dual-booting linux and had a system meltdown of sorts. As such, my Windows bootloader has been erased and I cannot boot into that OS. I do, however, have a linux live-usb through which I have access to my drives. Is there anyway to make use of this recovery partition and boot from itto re-install Windows?

• How can I make monodevelop render text in KDE?

  Monodevelop from git in KDE 4.10.2 does not render text in code edit tabs I tried with xfce and text is rendered ok there. I tried disabling composition with alt shift f12 and restarting x server but it was no better. I also tried disabling font softening in monodevelop options and disabling plugins. I also tried temporarily deleting my KDE profile. This is dual screen setup on Nvidia with nouveau. OS is slackware64-current.

  Hey, I'm not a hardware person, so maybe someone here could help me. I ordered a PC from Dell that has "Serial ATA Raid 0 "Stripe"(7200RPM)Dual HDD" (2x500gb). However, I've just noticed that there's only one HD of 1TB (which is the default option when ordering). Should I be seeing two HDDs in "My Computer" or does the Raid0 setup simply improve performance rather than have (and display) two individual HDDs?   Hi all, The hard drive has two partitions. I'm installing Windows 7 on the second one. It automatically gets assigned the drive letter C (and the first partition becomes D). Is there any way to override this assignment during installation? It's a dual-boot system, and I want drive letters to be consistent. On the vanilla drive selection dialog, there's no letter assignment UI.

  After buying a new laptop(XPS L501X) with windows 7 preinstalled, I decided to make it dual boot with windows Vista. I now know about the issue with installing previous versions of windows, and the deletion of the MBR. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but Microsoft no longer sends install disks with their computers, so there is no way to just re-install windows 7. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Data preservation is not an issue, as the laptop is new.

  I open these applications in my desktop computer: Visual Studio 2010 Professional IBM Lotus Notes Google Chrome And when it is idle for an hour and I restore the windows, the user interface responds very slowly. My computer auto-lock itself after being idle for 5 minutes. I also minimize the applications using a docklet (RocketDock). Why is it slowing down and how can I prevent it from slowing? My OS is Windows XP Professional SP3, Pentum(R) Dual Core @ 2.80 GHz, 1.99 GB of RAM.
