• Laptop power button not working

  I have a (seemingly rather exotic) Dell Latitude XT2 notebook running Lubuntu 12.04, fresh install. Tried to get the power button to work as expected (opening lubuntu-logout, just as I think it was meant to be out-of-the box), but no success: power button does nothing but forced power-off on long press. Here some more information, please ask if something more could help: Power button is recognized as a device: xinput lists Power Button as a slave keyboard at /dev/input/event1, and I can run a tool to listen to that device and invoke some action (successfully). But using .config/openbox/lubuntu-rc.xml to assign some action to XF86ShutDown or XF86PowerOff does nothing. Works well for any key of the keyboard. xinput --test reports a keycode (key press, key release) of 124 when pressing & releasing the power button. xmodmap -pk lists 124 mapped to XF86PowerOff which seems correct to me (btw: is this the same as XF86ShutDown?) When assigning another keysymname to the 124 keycode, e.g. 'w', still nothing happens when pressing the power button (no window seems to receive a 'w'). Works well for any key on the keyboard. The outputs of xev for a press/release of the power button irritate me: MappingNotify event, serial 41, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 8, count 248 FocusOut event, serial 41, synthetic NO, window 0x2a00001, mode NotifyGrab, detail NotifyAncestor FocusIn event, serial 41, synthetic NO, window 0x2a00001, mode NotifyUngrab, detail NotifyAncestor KeymapNotify event, serial 41, synthetic NO, window 0x0, keys: 93 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 (instead of 93, I also get different values) I might have missed something very basic since I'm not very familiar with both openbox/lubuntu and the X input system. Btw.: same goes for three other special buttons on my laptop..

• Windows 7 is swallowing a keystroke combination

  I'm using the gnu emacs editor under windows 7. I would like to bind a particular keystroke combination to an editor command. That combination is "control key" + ")", i.e., "control key" + "shift key" + "0". However, it appears this keystroke combination is being swallowed by the OS somehow. Using emacs's "view-lossage" feature indicates that it is never seeing the key. This happens even in safe mode. It does not happen under windows XP. Anyone know of a way to fix / diagnose what's happening?

• OpenVPN - Cannot browse ipv4 websites

  I have set up an openVPN tunnel on my VPS (OpenVZ - Ubuntu 12.04). The problem is I can only browse websites which support ipv6 like google. http://whatismyv6.com/ reports me that I've an ipv6 adress, so I guess this is the problem. • Synergy: Is there a way to push Win+L to all screens, not just the server?

  When I hit Win+L on either of my machines I'd ideally like to be able to lock both client and server What happens though is no matter which screen I hit the key combination... it locks the server.   Most operating systems (if not all) asks about the keyboard layout during installation. Why do they need to know the layout? I mean, when pressing key, does the keyboard send a specific signal indicating what it represents (if so, why needing to specify the layout?) or it sends a signal indicating its position (the second raw, third key) and then the OS detects what key is that from the layout specified?

  I have tried all alternatives and resources that I found on internet to achieve to change screen resolution in my MacOS X guest. I have the latest VirtualBox version (4.1.22) and I have MacOS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard running in a vm guest. • Run command automatically as root after login

  I'm using evrouter to simulate keypresses from my mouses extra buttons. It works great but I need to run the command with sudo to make it work so I can't just use my DE to handle autostart. • If I drop my clustered PK and add a new one, what order will my rows be in?

  In SQL Server, I'm looking at TableA, which currently has a uniqueidentifier clustered primary key. The GUID has no meaning in any context. (I'll give you a second to clean up your keyboard and monitor and set down the soda.) I'd like to drop that primary key and add a new unique integer primary key to the table. My question is this: when I drop the index, modify the column from uniqueidentifier to int, and add the new clustered unique primary key to the modified column, will the new PK values be in the order of insertion into the table, or will they be in some other order? Is this the right way to go here? Will this work? (I'm kind of a noobkin with regard to table creation/modification.)

• Accessing or Resetting Permissions of a Mounted Registry Hive of a Different User / From a Different System

  I’m currently stuck using my backup system until I can replace my dead motherboard. In the meantime, I have put my hard-drive in this system so that I can access my files and keep working on the backup system. Fortunately, I don’t have a permission issues with the files (the partitions are FAT32). The issue I’m having is with the registry. I need to import some of my settings from the hives of my (old? normal?) installation of Windows into the one I’m currently using. Settings from the system hives (SYSTEM, SOFTWARE, etc.) are fine, but the user hive is giving me trouble. I’ve copied the NTUSER.DAT file from my other drive and mounted it with the reg command. Most of the keys (eg Software) are fine and I can access them without problem, but some of them (particularly the Identities key where Outlook Express settings are stored) complains that it cannot be opened. If I open the permissions dialog, I get an error about being unable to view the current permssions. If I then ignore it and try to take ownership of the key and it’s subkeys, I get an access-denied error. If I then add permissions for my user account on this system, I get an error, however I am then able to see the subkeys and values of the key. If I then try to access the subkeys, I get the same original errors. If I repeat the process for each subkey, I can see their values and subkeys, and so on, but of course this gets to be incredibly annoying and time-consuming (especially since the Identities key has a lot of subkeys). Is there an easier/temporary/more correct way to dump a key so that I can import it into my backup system?

• Why isn't passwordless ssh working?

  I have two Ubuntu Server machines sitting at home. One is 192.168.1.15 (we'll call this 15), and the other is 192.168.1.25 (we'll call this 25). For some reason, when I want to setup passwordless login from 15 to 25, it works like a champ. When I repeat the steps on 25, so that 25 can login without a password on 15, no dice. I have checked both sshd_config files.   In the past I've been using putty to ssh into my schools fedora computers to do HW, but now I recently put fedora on my computer, and I want make it so that I can ssh to my fedora computer from my school too. I looked through a tutorial, and was able to -make the private key and public key -make a passphrase -move to public key to my school's system -chmod 700 the public key now when I try to ssh into my own computer from school it gives me an error that says I cannot resolve my hostname and name or service unknown I don't know what to do from here, the tutorial was no help after this.

• Can't connect to Wireless

  Good day all! I hope you are doing good. I have performed a WUBI installation of 12.04 on my HP G62 laptop, which has an Atheros AR9285 wireless chipset. Everything works fine with my wired network connection. However, wireless is unable to connect to my wifi network. I enter the WPA2 key and then it attemps to connect, but eventually comes back, asking for the WPA2 key again, as if it was not good. All of the other laptops in the household are able to connect, using the same key (I configured them all, so I am 500% sure of the WPA2 key). Any idea as to what could be causing this? I can definitely post the output of CLI commands like "rfkill list" or "sudo lshw -class network", or "ifconfig". I have installed Ubuntu a few time but I am definitely still a newbie, but I am definitely computer savyy. Looking forward to suggestions . Thanks in advance !!! Dan...

  Here's the question... Considering 192 trillion records, what should my considerations be? My main concern is speed. Here's the table... The SELECT's will be done much more frequently than the INSERT. However, occasionally I want to add a few hundred records at a time. Load-wise, there will be nothing for hours then maybe a few thousand queries all at once. Don't think I can normalize any more (need the p values in a combination) The database as a whole is very relational. This will be the largest table by far (next largest is about 900k) UPDATE (08/11/2010) Interestingly, I've been given a second option... Instead of 192 trillion I could store 2.6*10^16 (15 zeros, meaning 26 Quadrillion)... But in this second option I would only need to store one bigint(18) as the index in a table. That's it - just the one column. So I would just be checking for the existence of a value. Occasionally adding records, never deleting them. So that makes me think there must be a better solution then mysql for simply storing numbers... Given this second option, should I take it or stick with the first... [edit] Just got news of some testing that's been done - 100 million rows with this setup returns the query in 0.0004 seconds [/edit]

• Deploying an EAR to JBOSS times out (org.rhq.core.pc.inventory.TimeoutException:)

  Hi, I am trying to deploy an ear file to JBOSS AS (defalut server). The application is the mavenised version of examples of SeamInAction book. When I copy the file to $JBOSS_HOME/server/default/deploy, I don't get any exception but the application doesn't respond, after some time trying to access the application from the browser gives following in the log... While deploying with admin-console (http://localhost:8080/admin-console) I get following error messgae: PS: After this Jboss gets into unusable state. I cannot even access admin-console. I just have to kill it. ErrorMessage in admin-console: Failed to create Resource Open18.ear - cause: org.rhq.core.pc.inventory.TimeoutException: Call to [org.rhq.plugins.jbossas5.ApplicationServerComponent.createResource()] with args [[CreateResourceReport: ResourceType=[ResourceType[id=0, category=Service, name=Enterprise Application (EAR), plugin=JBossAS5]], ResourceKey=[null]]] timed out. • WPF - List View Row Index and Validation

  Hi, I have a ListView with TextBoxes in second column. I want to validate that my text box does not contain a number if the third column(data_type) is "Text". I am unable to do the validation. I tried a few approaches. In one approach I try to handle the MouseDown event and am trying to get the Row number so that I can get the data_type value of that row. I want to us this value in the Validate method. I have been struggling for a week now.
