• Where are my Tomcat Logs?

  Hi All, I installed Tomcat6 on a Ubuntu 9.04 server using apt-get install tomcat6. I uploaded a WAR using the manager interface and tried to start the application but get a pretty generic error on the Web interface saying it couldn't be started. I am trying to find the logs to determine why my war won't start (I suspect low memory as i'm on a small VPS) but I don't know where they are. /var/lib/tomcat6/logs is empty. My Tomcat splash page reliably informs me of the following; Tomcat is installed with CATALINA_HOME in /usr/share/tomcat6 CATALINA_BASE in /var/lib/tomcat6, following the rules from /usr/share/doc/tomcat6-common/RUNNING.txt.gz. • AJAX call in for loop won't return values to correct array positions

  I need to get a range of pages using AJAX and put them into an array, where their given place in the array is equal to the i of a for loop (it's a caching-like function for blog pages, and the range of the for loop is entirely variable). I'm doing something akin to the following: var bongo = new Array(); for (i = 0; i < 10; i++) { jQuery.ajax({ type: "GET", url: http://localhost, data: queryString, success: function(request) { bongo[i] = request } }) } The problem is, that unless I add async: false to the .ajax options (which would make it... SJAX?), which causes the requests to basically pause the browser, going against what I'm trying to do, the i in the success callback will always end up being 11, whereas I of course want it to pour the returned data into each slot of the array from 0 to 10. I've tried replacing the line with this: bongo[i] = jQuery.ajax({ type: "GET", url: http://localhost, data: queryString }).responseText But that made no difference.

  After I read a bunch of LINQ related stuff, I suddenly realized that no articles introduce how to write asynchronous LINQ query. Suppose we use LINQ to SQL, below statement is clear. • Few Google Checkout Questions

  I am planning to integrate a Google Checkout payment system on a social networking website. The idea is that members can buy "tokens" for real money (which are sort of the website currency) and then they can buy access to some extra content on the website etc. What I want to do is create a Google Checkout button that takes a member to the checkout page where he pays with his credit or debit card. What I want is the Google Checkout to notify notify my server whether the purchase of tokens was successful (if the credit/debit card was charged) so I can update the local database. The website is coded in PHP/MySQL. I have downloaded the sample PHP code from here: code.google.com/p/google-checkout-php-sample-code/wiki/Documentation I know how to create a Google checkout button and I have also placed the responsehandlerdemo.php file on my server. This is the file the Google Checkout is supposed to send response to (of course I set the path to the file in Google merchant account). • Global hotkeys: songbird on KDE

  I'm running songbird on opensuse 11.2 KDE 4.3.1 on my EEE pc. On windows, there is a hotkey thing inside Songbird, so i set META F9,10,11,12 as media keys and it work just fine. On linux, there is not hotkey thing in songbird, and I would like to set those same hotkeys. I've played around with the Amarok Hotkeys, which are now setup that way, and looked in all the KDE shortcuts, but cannot find a way to add a new program and new hot keys. I know its possible, I did it before once, but the KDE shortcut programs have changed and I no longer see the stuff i used to do it before. I'd like to do the same to banshee at some point, but Songbird is the important program. Any Ideas? Any way to set those keys to generic media buttons?

  hello, i'm currently thinking of a clean way of how to bring an ftp server down for maintenance. i wonder, if anybody out there could give me some hints of how to solve this: i don't want to interrupt any current uploads, but want to block any new connects / uploads and wait, till uploads have finished, before taking down the ftp server is there a way of dynamically prevent user-logins and show a message eg.: "ftp currently down for maintenance" when a user tries to log in? are my thoughts on this very uncommon or how do others handle this -- i feel, that just halting ftp server and killing any current uploads is not the right way for this ... i use proftpd (with SQL backend) btw, maybe there are some specific solutions for this -- or are there any generic tools to achieve this? many thanks!

• How to preselect nodes using jsTree jQuery plug-in

  I am using the jsTree jQuery plug-in with its "Checkbox" plug-in and using an async http request to lazy-load each level of the tree. All works great, except that I cannot get the tree to pre-select certain nodes after the first level. I am using the "selected" attribute to provide an array of ID's to preselect. ID's in the top level of the tree are correctly pre-selected. However, ID's in lower levels of the tree are not selected when the level loads. Am I missing something?   I have seen hooks in Kohana PHP framework, and they work as some sort of a callback function triggered by a certain event (Kohana's events that is, some sort of method overloading). I have seen hooks in Wordpress, and I don't know what they are or how to use them (just saw them yesterday). I'm looking for events in "non-frameworked" php, I cannot find ones. Do hooks work only in an "event-based" environment? What are they anyway (in general, not just in PHP)? What are they good for if not in an "event-based" environment.

• Linux: close a program with command line (not kill it)

  Some applications only allow one running instance (like eclipse, if you want to use the same workspace). So if I log in from another location, I have to kill/close the application that was open when I previously logged in from another location. I always use kill command to kill the running process. But, if you kill a process, it might not save some states that are useful for future usage. However, if you "close" it properly byclicking on the close button, for example, it will save the states properly. Is there a way to properly "close" an application from command line? I know this can vary from applications, so let's be a bit more generic: how to send a signal to another running application, and this signal works just as if we click the "close" button in the top bar? thanks!

• USB Keyboard not working under windows 7 x64?

  I have two usb keyboards, one no-name cheapo thing and an old logitech. When i plug them in to my computer they pop up in device manager as "Unknown device" respective "USB-receiver". Both of them fail to install any drivers, neighter automatically or through windows update. Both keyboards work perfectly on another computer i have with vista 32bit. Can this be one of those cases where a device does not work in 64bit version of windows? I doubt it though since I've never had that problem before with any device and i thought that basic things like keyboards would be kind of failsafe. I don't really know how to start debugging this issue. I've tried all the obvious, rebooting, changing usb-port etc. Are there any generic x64 keyboard drivers you can use? Is there any way to find the manufacturer of the keyboard over usb? There is nothing written on it.

• Find new messages added to an imap mailbox since I last checked with python libimap2?

  I am trying to write a program that monitors an IMAP mailbox and automatically copies every new incoming message into an "Archive" folder. I'm using imaplib2 which implements the IDLE command. But the response from recent() doesn't make sense to me, and after the first message I never get any other notifications. Anyone know how to do this?

• What program should I use for SSL stripping and re-encrypting

  I'm trying to strip a HTTP over SSL connection down to SSL and then re-encrypt the channel (with a signed certificate(s) I can provide). Of course I want to be able to store captures of all the un-encrypted data. The purpose of this is to reverse engineer a HTTP handshake that is used by a SIP program on my machine. I've tried SSLstrip but it doesn't support what I need it too. Edit: I want something to this effect https://github.com/applidium/Cracking-Siri/blob/master/tcpProxy.rb only more generic and able to write to a pcap stream that wireshark will understand (I'm not sure if this does that). Edit2: upon further inspection this does not create pcap streams. I guess if need be I can write a compatible version but that is not the desired choice.

For example, take a look at Google's number of MB of free storage on the Gmail homepage, under the heading that reads "Lots of space". It has a starting number in a <span> tag, and slowly counts upward every second. I'm looking for something similar, but I'd like to be able to specify: The start number The end number The amount of time it should take to get from start to end. • C++: Declaration of template class member specialization

  When I specialize a (static) member function/constant in a template class, I'm confused as to where the declaration is meant to go. But if it goes into the .cpp file, is code which calls X::f() aware of the specialization, or might it rely on the generic X::f()? So far I've got the specialization in the .cpp only, with no declaration in the header. I'm not having trouble compiling or even running my code (on gcc, don't remember the version at the moment), and it behaves as expected - recognizing the specialization. But A) I'm not sure this is correct, and I'd like to know what is, and B) my Doxygen documentation comes out wonky and very misleading (more on that in a moment a later question). • IIS 7.5 401.3 Access Denied

  I am having this weird issue with IIS 7.5 on Windows 2008 R2 x64. I created a site in IIS and manually created a test file index.html and everything worked. When I try to do a deployment, I copy all the files from my local PC to the IIS server, try to access index.html (this is the proper deployed file) and getting 401.3 access denied error. I then try to manually recreate index.html and copy content into this newly created file and the page is accessible again... I just can't figure this out. So the issue is that IIS 7.5 can't server files that have been copied from other PCs. I tried to reset/apply permission settings to the copied folders/files but nothing has worked. Please help. Thanks! By the way, the files that I copied are just some html cutups i.e. generic html, css and image files, nothing special.

• C# threading pattern that will let me flush

  I have a class that implements the Begin/End Invocation pattern where I initially used ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem() to do thread my work. I now have the side effect where someone using my class is calling the Begin (with callback) a ton of times to do a lot of processing so ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem is creating a ton of threads to do the processing. That in itself isn't bad but there are instances where they want to abandon the processing and start a new process but they are forced to wait for their first request to finish. Since ThreadPool.QueueUseWorkItem() doesn't allow me to cancel the threads I am trying to come up with a better way to queue up the work and maybe use an explicit FlushQueue() method in my class to allow the caller to abandon work in my queue. Anyone have any suggestion on a threading pattern that fits my needs?

• HP Compaq T20 Thin Clients & Windows Server 2008 R2: RDP Disconnects instantly.

  Hello, I have some HP Compaq T20 Thin Clients connecting to a Windows Server 2003. Now I want to upgrade to 2008 R2, so I tested a trial installation with remote desktop in administration mode. So I try to connect my T20 to the server and... It doesn't matter if I turn off encryption or not it disconnects with an generic error instantly. The T20s have Windows CE embedded with RDP 5.2 installed. Out of curiosity I tried Windows Server 2008 (no R2) and it worked! I tried the same with a Windows 7 machine set up with- no work. I can not update the T20s to Windows NT embedded for example because they only have a low amount of flash memory. It seems the "new" version of RDP coming from Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2 is completely incompatible with the older 5.2 version. • LSI SAS 1064E drivers for Server 2012

  I have a need to place Windows Server 2012 onto a Sunfire X4100 blade server that contains a LSI SAS 1064e RAID controller (2006). The LSI site only has drivers up to server 2008 R2. I did attempt to install server 2012 hoping it might contain generic MS Drivers (I was dreaming, I know). That failed. I attempted to load external LSI drivers for server 2008. That failed as well. Am I out of luck, or did I miss something? Thanks in advance.
