• help with making a password checker in java

- by Cheesegraterr
Hello, I am trying to make a program in Java that checks for three specific inputs. It has to be 1. At least 7 characters. 2. Contain both upper and lower case alphabetic characters. 3. Contain at least 1 digit. So far I have been able to make it check if there is 7 characters, but I am having trouble with the last two. What should I put in my loop as an if statement to check for digits and make it upper and lower case. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I have so far. import java.awt.*; import java.io.*; import java.util.StringTokenizer; public class passCheck { private static String getStrSys () { String myInput = null; //Store the String that is read in from the command line BufferedReader mySystem; //Buffer to store the input mySystem = new BufferedReader (new InputStreamReader (System.in)); //creates a connection to system input try { myInput = mySystem.readLine (); //reads in data from the console myInput = myInput.trim (); } catch (IOException e) //check { System.out.println ("IOException: " + e); return ""; } return myInput; //return the integer to the main program } //**************************************** //main instructions go here //**************************************** static public void main (String[] args) { String pass; //the words the user inputs String temp = ""; //holds temp info int stringLength; //length of string boolean goodPass = false; System.out.print ("Please enter a password: "); //ask for words pass = getStrSys (); //get words from system temp = pass.toLowerCase (); stringLength = pass.length (); //find length of eveyrthing while (goodPass == false) { if (stringLength < 7) { System.out.println ("Your password must consist of at least 7 characters"); System.out.print ("Please enter a password: "); //ask for words pass = getStrSys (); stringLength = pass.length (); goodPass = false; } else if (something to check for digits) { } }

• Reading correctly alphanumeric fields into R

- by gd047
A tab-delimited text file, which is actually an export (using bcp) of a database table, is of that form: 102 1 01 e113c 3224.96 12 102 1 01 e185 101127.25 12 102 2 01 e185 176417.90 12 102A 3 01 e185 26261.03 12 I tried to import it in R with a command like data <- read.delim("C:\\test.txt", header = FALSE, sep = "\t") The problem is that the 3rd column which is actually a varchar field (alphanumeric) is mistakenly read as integer (as there are no letters in the entire column) and the leading zeros disappeared. The same thing happened when I imported the data directly from the database, using odbcConnect. Again that column was read as integer. str(data) $ code: int 1 1 1 1 1 1 6 1 1 8 ... How can I import such a dataset in R correctly, so as to be able to safely populate that db table again, after doing some data manipulations?

• Silverlight MEF Embedded Resources

- by Fastidious
I have two different Silverlight UserControls imported with MEF from two different xaps. The UserControls are simply an Image on a Canvas. Both UserControls have the image marked as 'Resource'. The images are different but their names are the same (key point). I'm not quite sure what's going on behind the scenes of the MEF import but both images seem to end up in the same AppDomain. After the composition when I stick the UserControls on a Canvas, each is an instance of the class it should be, but they both show the same image. Obviously if the image file names are unique across all xaps I import I have no problem but I don't like that solution. Is there a better one?

• Android calculator with button click

- by rynwtts
I am trying to calculate a field named lblAnswer by adding values txtA + txtB. I am fairly new to the android development world and would like to know what is the best way of going about this. I have already added the necessarily edit fields to the GUI. I am now working in the java file to try and create the method. This method has been named doCalc. Here is what I have thus far. public void doCalc() { lblAnswer = txtA + txtB; } It has been suggested that I add more code here is the full code. Thank you for that suggestion. Here is the Java File. package com.example.wattsprofessional; import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.Menu; public class MainActivity extends Activity { @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_main); } @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { // Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present. getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.activity_main, menu); return true; } public void doCalc() { lblAnswer = txtA + txtB; Double.parseDouble(txtA.getText().toString()); lblAnswer.setText"t } and here is the xml file. <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" tools:context=".MainActivity" > <EditText android:id="@+id/txtA" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" android:layout_marginTop="40dp" android:ems="10" android:hint="Write Here" android:inputType="numberDecimal" > <requestFocus /> </EditText> <EditText android:id="@+id/txtB" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignLeft="@+id/txtA" android:layout_below="@+id/txtA" android:layout_marginTop="32dp" android:ems="10" android:hint="Second Here" android:inputType="numberDecimal" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/lblAnswer" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_below="@+id/button1" android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" android:layout_marginTop="50dp" android:text="TextView" /> </RelativeLayout>

• Reading Data from DDFS ValueError: No JSON object could be decoded

- by secumind
I'm running dozens of map reduce jobs for a number of different purposes using disco. My data has grown enormous and I thought I would try using DDFS for a change rather than standard txt files. I've followed the DISCO map/reduce example Counting Words as a map/reduce job, without to much difficulty and with the help of others, Reading JSON specific data into DISCO I've gotten past one of my latest problems. I'm trying to read data in/out of ddfs to better chunk and distribute it but am having a bit of trouble. Here's an example file: file.txt {"favorited": false, "in_reply_to_user_id": null, "contributors": null, "truncated": false, "text": "I'll call him back tomorrow I guess", "created_at": "Mon Feb 13 05:34:27 +0000 2012", "retweeted": false, "in_reply_to_status_id_str": null, "coordinates": null, "in_reply_to_user_id_str": null, "entities": {"user_mentions": [], "hashtags": [], "urls": []}, "in_reply_to_status_id": null, "id_str": "168931016843603968", "place": null, "user": {"follow_request_sent": null, "profile_use_background_image": true, "profile_background_image_url_https": "https://si0.twimg.com/profile_background_images/305726905/FASHION-3.png", "verified": false, "profile_image_url_https": "https://si0.twimg.com/profile_images/1818996723/image_normal.jpg", "profile_sidebar_fill_color": "292727", "is_translator": false, "id": 113532729, "profile_text_color": "000000", "followers_count": 78, "protected": false, "location": "With My Niggas In Paris!", "default_profile_image": false, "listed_count": 0, "utc_offset": -21600, "statuses_count": 6733, "description": "Made in CHINA., Educated && Making My Own $$. • Simple javascript string problem in ie6 and ie7

- by Jeff Lamb
I have a very simple function that takes a list of comma separated (x,y) points and imports them into a graph. I have FF, Chrome and IE8 installed. I use IETester to test for IE6 and IE7. // Import Data this.Import = function(data) { alert("Data in: "+data); var d; // Make sure the first and the last are start/ending parenthesis if ( (data[0] != '(') || (data[data.length-1] != ')') ) { alert("After if: "+data[0]+" "+data[data.length-1]); return false; } ... In Chrome, FF and IE8, I don't see the "After if:" alert. In IE6 and IE7, I see the following two alerts: Data in: (52,16),(100,90) After if: undefined undefined The "Data in" alert matches in all browsers. Any ideas?

• Java: what are IOEXceptions in BufferedReader's readLine() for?

- by HH
I can "fix" the below exception with a try-catch loop but I cannot understand the reason. Why does the part "in.readLine()" continuosly ignite IOExceptions? • objective-c default init method for class?

- by Alex
Hello, I have two differing methods for initializing my objective-c class. One is the default, and one takes a configuration parameter. Now, I'm pretty green when it comes to objective-c, but I've implemented these methods and I'm wondering if there's a better (more correct/in good style) way to handle initialization than the way I have done it. Meaning, did I write these initialization functions in accordance with standards and good style? It just doesn't feel right to check for the existence of selfPtr and then return based on that. Below are my class header and implementation files. Also, if you spot anything else that is wrong or evil, please let me know. I am a C++/Javascript developer who is learning objective-c as hobby and would appreciate any tips that you could offer. #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> // class for raising events and parsing returned directives @interface awesome : NSObject { // silence is golden. Actually properties are golden. Hence this emptiness. } // properties @property (retain) SBJsonParser* parser; @property (retain) NSString* eventDomain; @property (retain) NSString* appid // constructors -(id) init; -(id) initWithAppId:(id) input; // destructor -(void) dealloc; @end #import "awesome.h" #import "JSON.h" @implementation awesome - (id) init { if (self = [super init]) { // if init is called directly, just pass nil to AppId contructor variant id selfPtr = [self initWithAppId:nil]; } if (selfPtr) { return selfPtr; } else { return self; } } - (id) initWithAppId:(id) input { if (self = [super init]) { if (input = nil) { input = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"a369x123"]; } [self setAppid:input]; [self setEventDomain:[[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"desktop"]]; } return self; } // property synthesis @synthesize parser; @synthesize appid; @synthesize eventDomain; // destructor - (void) dealloc { self.parser = nil; self.appid = nil; self.eventDomain = nil; [super dealloc]; } @end Thanks!

I get autocomplete when I add import flash.net.NetStreamPlayOptions; import flash.net.NetStreamPlayTransitions; But when I run the movie, I get: VerifyError: Error #1014: Class flash.net::NetStreamPlayOptions could not be found. I don't get it.. What must I do to use those classes?

• Flex - Problem with auto resizing datagrid

- by Marty Pitt
Hi All I'm trying to create a datagrid which will resize vertically to ensure all the renderers are displayed in full. Additionally, Renderers are of variable height Renderers can resize themselves Generally speaking, the flow of events is as follows : One of the item renderers resizes itself (normally in response to a user click etc) It dispatches a bubbling event which the parent datagrid picks up The DataGrid attempts to resize to ensure that all renderers remain visible in full. I'm currently using this code within the datagrid to calculate the height: height = measureHeightOfItems(0, dataProvider.length ) + headerHeight; This appears to get an incorrect height. I've tried a number of variations including callLater ( to ensure the resize has completed so measure can work correctly), and overriding meausre() and calling invalidateSize() / validateSize(), but neither works. Below are 3 classes which will illustrate the problem. Clicking the button in the item renderers resizes the renderer. The grid should also expand so that all of the 3 renderers are shown in their entirety. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards Marty DataGridProblem.mxml (Application file) <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical" xmlns:view="view.*"> <mx:ArrayCollection id="dataProvider"> <mx:String>Item A</mx:String> <mx:String>Item B</mx:String> <mx:String>Item C</mx:String> </mx:ArrayCollection> <view:TestDataGrid id="dg" dataProvider="{ dataProvider }" width="400"> <view:columns> <mx:DataGridColumn dataField="text" /> <mx:DataGridColumn itemRenderer="view.RendererButton" /> </view:columns> </view:TestDataGrid> </mx:Application> view.TestDataGrid.as package view { import flash.events.Event; import mx.controls.DataGrid; import mx.core.ScrollPolicy; public class TestDataGrid extends DataGrid { public function TestDataGrid() { this.verticalScrollPolicy = ScrollPolicy.OFF; this.variableRowHeight = true; this.addEventListener( RendererButton.RENDERER_RESIZE , onRendererResize ); } private function onRendererResize( event : Event ) : void { resizeDatagrid(); } private function resizeDatagrid():void { height = measureHeightOfItems(0, dataProvider.length ) + headerHeight; } } } view.RendererButton.mxml <mx:HBox xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"> <mx:Button width="50" height="50" click="onClick()" /> <mx:Script> public static const RENDERER_RESIZE : String = "resizeRenderer"; private function onClick() : void { this.height += 20; dispatchEvent( new Event( RENDERER_RESIZE , true ) ); } </mx:Script> </mx:HBox>

• Can't parse a 1904 date in ARPA format (email date)

- by Ramon
I'm processing an IMAP mailbox and running into trouble parsing the dates using the mxDateTime package. In particular, early dates like "Fri, 1 Jan 1904 00:43:25 -0400" is causing trouble: >>> import mx.DateTime >>> import mx.DateTime.ARPA >>> mx.DateTime.ARPA.ParseDateTimeUTC("Fri, 1 Jan 1904 00:43:25 -0400").gmtoffset() Traceback (most recent call last): File "<interactive input>", line 1, in <module> Error: cannot convert value to a time value >>> mx.DateTime.ARPA.ParseDateTimeUTC("Thu, 1 Jan 2009 00:43:25 -0400").gmtoffset() <mx.DateTime.DateTimeDelta object for '-08:00:00.00' at 1497b60> >>> Note that an almost identical date from 2009 works fine. I can't find any description of date limitations in mxDateTime itself. Any ideas why this might be? Thx, Ramon

• http(/* argument here */) How is this Object (Http) being used without an explicit or implicit meth

- by Randin
In the example for coding with Json using Databinder Dispatch Nathan uses an Object (Http) without a method, shown here: import dispatch._ import Http._ Http("http://www.fox.com/dollhouse/" >>> System.out ) How is he doing this? Thank you for all of the answers unfortunatly I was not specific enough... It looks like it is simply passing an argument to a constructor of class or companion object Http. In another example, I've seen another form: http = new Http http(/* argument here */) Is this valid Scala? I guess it must be, because the author is a Scala expert. But it makes no sense to me. Actions are usually performed by invoking methods on objects, whether explicitly as object.doSomething() or implicitly as object = something (using the apply() method underneath the syntactic sugar). All I can think of is that a constructor is being used to do something in addition to constructing an object. In other words, it is having side effects, such as in this case going off and doing something on the web.

• Can I use Sikuli as an Jython library in my project?

- by Yinan
Sikuli is really cool, but it's working in its buildin Jython environment, the Sikuli IDE. So I m wondering is it possible to import Sikuli as an external library to my Jython library? I saw from Sikuli's website that they have this Python module which provides all Sikuli actions like click and type. Here is the link: http://sikuli.org/documentation.shtml#doc/pythondoc-python.edu.mit.csail.uid.Sikuli.html I have tried importing the skiuli-script.jar and add the skiuli-script/Lib to the PYTHONPATH. Then in my spike.py script, I try to do this: import python.edu.mit.csail.uid.Sikuli capture() #enter to screen capture mode then when execute the script, I got this error: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /eclipse_3.4.2/workspace/Jython/src/tmplib/libVDictProxy.jnilib: no suitable image found. Did find: /eclipse_3.4.2/workspace/Jython/src/tmplib/libVDictProxy.jnilib: no matching architecture in universal wrapper I m using Jython 2.2.1 and Mac 10.6.2 (32-bit mode). I have also set to use 32-bit mode first in Java Preference.

• gcc-4.2 failed with exit code 1 iphone

- by SKayser
Hi, I've seen this error with different variations on discussion forums but being a non programmer I'm not sure how to progress this. Basically I have code which I found to help me with changing the background colors of cells on a grouped uitableview. The code introduced a line as such: CGContextAddArcToPoint(c, minx, miny, midx, miny, ROUND_SIZE); This gave an error indicated that it wasn't declared, so I added to my .h file the following under import uikit: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #define ROUND_SIZE 10 Now it shows that I have an error: Command/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/usr/bin/gcc-4.2 failed with exit code 1 iphone Some discussions talk about libraries but because I don't have a programming background I don't understand what to do. I also see that some people show a log output but I'm not sure where that comes from as I don't get any debug windows because I'm guessing it doesn't get that far. I simply click 'Build and Go' and I get this error in the Message window. Any thoughts?

• Email attachment problem

Hi there, I want to send an email with an attachment using the following code (Python 3.1) (greatly simplified to show the example) from email.mime.multipart import MIMEMultipart from email.mime.text import MIMEText msg = MIMEMultipart() msg['From'] = from_addr msg['To'] = to_addr msg['Subject'] = subject msg.attach(MIMEText(body)) fp = open(att_file) msg1 = MIMEText(fp.read()) attachment = msg1.add_header('Content-Disposition', 'attachment', filename=att_file) msg.attach(attachment) # set string to be sent as 3rd parameter to smptlib.SMTP.sendmail() send_string = msg.as_string() The attachment object msg1 returns 'email.mime.text.MIMEText' object at ', but when the msg1.add_header(...) line runs the result is None, hence the program falls-over in msg.as_string() because no part of the attachment can have a None value. (Traceback shows "'NoneType' object has no attribute 'get_content_maintype'" in line 118 of _dispatch in generator.py, many levels down from msg.as_string()) Has anyone any idea what the cause of the problem might be? • Getting website data into Adobe InDesign

- by Magnus Smith
I'd like our magazine team to be able to download website data in a file that Adobe InDesign can read. They can then import/open the file, make a few tweaks, and cut out a vast deal of repetitive manual labour (they currently use copy&paste for a few hours). After a brief Google I note that v2 of InDesign can import/export XML so perhaps that is my best bet? Are there any alternatives, and can anyone offer any advice on them? I am using a PC, and the magazine team are on Macs; testing will be tiresome I fear. The data we wish to format is fairly simple - a title followed by a short chunk of text (repeated about 50 times, say). I'll ask about importing images later. Thanks for your help. I will return to Google now, but it would be great if anyone can point me in a more specific direction first!
