• OpenGl / C++ and some strange light problem on half board

  I have some problem with lights in my opengl "game". I have board with is square (-50,50), (50, 50), (50, -50), (-50,-50) x and z since y doesn't matter at all. • No suspend on lid closing on a Samsung Series 5 14" NP530U4BI

  Ok, i realize I am not the only one, but I will try to provide all info possible to make it exemplary as possible and narrow down the error sources. I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 and the suspend worked fine upon having it freshly installed but now it does not anymore. The suspend option from the system power button on the top right works fine. Things I did do which I don't know if they are related: Install and remove againthe FGLRX drivers (Radeon graphic card) Install Jupiter power managment (shutting it down is not changin anything) Plug in and out an external display The configuration I know of is well set: In System Settings/Power all is set to suspend when closing lid Double checked with dconf-editor, everything set to suspend So, from here on I don't know how to proceed.. what are common problems that cause this error? • SAPPHIRE HD 7770 no audio on HDMI TV display

  I have SAPPHIRE HD 7770 and cannot get work audio over HDMI. http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1159&lid=1&pid=1452&leg=0 I use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit version with all current updates. I tried at /etc/default/grub: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.audio=1" ... it didn't help. It's probably I use proprietary driver -this seems to be open source driver. I use the driver, what jockey-gtk (additional drivers) offered me: ATI/AMD PROPRIETARY FGLRX GRAPHICS DRIVER <---- I installed that one ATI/AMD PROPRIETARY FGLRX GRAPHICS DRIVER (post-release update) So - I installed the first one, because installing second version failed. Everything went fine but no sound at TV display by HDMI. Even Gnome sound mixer doesn't show HDMI choice. Using 32" Samsung B530 LCD TV - http://www.lcdbesttv.com/2010/02/samsung-b530-series-lcd-tv/ I have Asus P8Z77-M motherboard - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z77M/ - there is also HDMI integrated. When I put HDMI cord to that plug, then even Gnome sound mixer showed HDMI audio but it didn't work. I have set from BIOS, that I use that SAPPHIRE HD 7770 from PCIe. • Texture errors in CubeMap

  I am trying to apply this texture as a cubemap. This is my result: Clearly I am doing something with my texture coordinates, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what. I don't even see a pattern to the texture fragments. They just seem like a jumble of different faces. Can anyone shed some light on this? • TechEd 2012: Windows 8 And Metro

  Windows 8 is here (or at least very close) and that was the main feature of this morning’s key note.  Antoine LeBlond started off by apologizing to the IT professionals since he planned on showing code.  I’m not sure if IT Pros are that easily confused or why you would need such a disclaimer.  Developers do real work, IT Pros just play with toys (just kidding). The highlights of the Windows 8 keynote for me started with some of the UI design elements that I had not seen when I was shown one of the Build tablets.  Specifically I liked the AppBar features that we have become used to with Windows Phone and some of the gesture features.  Even though they have been available on other platforms before I think Microsoft really got them right. Two other great features of Windows 8 that they demonstrated were the Hyper-V capabilities and the ability to run Windows 8 anywhere from a USB key.  My jaw dropped through the floor seeing a feature rich OS boot off of a thumb drive. WOW!  I also can’t wait to get rid of dual booting just to run Hyper-V images when developing. The morning continued with a session on Metro XAML development with Tim Heuer.  While included a lot of great XAML Metro demos, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the things I found out about Visual Studio 2012.  Finding out that Blend is now integrated with VS2012 was a nice addition after working with them as separate applications was an encouraging start. Moving on to Metro he introduced the nugget that WinRT is Async everywhere.  How deep this model goes will be an interesting thing to find out as I learn more about developing for the platform.  Thankfully he followed that up with a couple of new keywords, await and async, that eliminates a lot of plumbing that has been required in the past for asynchronous transactions. Tim also related that since the Metro framework is relatively small and most apps will use a significant amount of it the entire surface is referenced by default.  This is a contrast to adding namespace and assemblies one after another as we normally do. This was such a power packed session that I can’t detail it all here so here is the teaser list. • Who Are the BI Users in Your Neighborhood?

  By Brian Dayton on March 19, 2010 10:52 PM Forrester's Boris Evelson recently wrote a blog titled "Who are the BI Personas?" that I enjoyed for a number of reasons. It's a quick read, easy to grasp and (refreshingly) focuses on the users of technology VS the technology. As Evelson admits, he meant to keep the reference chart at a high-level because there are too many different permutations and additional sub-categories to make such a chart useful. For me, I wouldn't head into the technical permutations but more the contextual use of BI and the issues that users experience. My thoughts brought up more questions than answers such as: Context: - HOW: With the exception of the "Power User" persona--likely some sort of business or operations analyst? - WHEN: Are they using the information to make real-time decisions on the front lines (a customer service manager or shipping/logistics VP) or are they using this information for cumulative analysis and business planning? Or both? - WHERE: What areas of the business are more or less likely to rely on BI across an organization? Human Resources, Operations, Facilities, Finance--- and why are some more prone to use data-driven analysis than others? Issues: - DELAYS & DRAG ON IT?: One of the persona characteristics Evelson calls out is a reliance on IT. Every persona except for the "Power User" has a heavy reliance on IT for support. What business issues or delays does that cause to users? What is the drag on IT resources who could potentially be creating instead of reporting? - HOW MANY CLICKS: If BI is being used within the context of a transaction (sales manager looking for upsell opportunities as an example) is that person getting the information within the context of that action or transaction? Or are they minimizing screens, logging into another application or reporting tool, running queries, etc.? Who are the BI Users in your neighborhood or line of business? Do Evelson's personas resonate--and do the tools that he calls out (he refers to it as "BI Style") resonate with what your personas have or need? Finally, I'm very interested if BI use is viewed as a bolt-on...or an integrated part of your daily enterprise processes?

• Lookup Viewer

  The Maven integrated view that I showed yesterday I was able to create because I happened to know that an implementation of SubprojectProvider and LogicalViewProvider are in the Lookup of Maven projects. With that knowledge, I was able to use and even delegate to those implementations. But what if you don't know that those implementations are in the Lookup of the Project object? In the case of the Maven Project implementation, you could look in the source code of the Maven Project implementation, at the "getLookup" method. However, any other module could be putting its own objects into that Lookup, dynamically, i.e., at runtime. So there's no way of knowing what's in the Lookup of any Project object or any other object with a Lookup. But now imagine that you have a Lookup Viewer, as a tool during development, which you would exclude when distributing the application. Whenever new objects are found in the Lookup, the viewer displays them. You could install the Lookup Viewer into NetBeans IDE, or any other NetBeans Platform application, and then get a quick impression of what's actually in the Lookup when you select a different item in the application during development. Here it is (though I vaguely remember someone else writing something similar): Above, a Maven Project is selected. The Lookup Window shows that, among many other classes, an implementation of SubprojectProvider and LogicalViewProvider are found in the Lookup when the Maven Project is selected. If an item in the Lookup Window has its own Lookup, the content of that Lookup is displayed as child nodes of the Lookup, etc, i.e., you can explore all the way down the Lookup of each item found within objects found within the current selection. (What's especially fun is seeing the SaveCookieImpl being added and removed from the Lookup Window when you make/save a change in a document.) Another example is below, showing the Lookup Window installed in a custom application created during a course at MIT in Boston: A small trick I had to apply is that I always show the previous Lookup, since the current Lookup, when you select one of the Nodes in the Lookup Window, would be the Lookup of the Lookup Window itself! If anyone is interested in this, I can publish the NetBeans module providing the above window to the NetBeans update center.

• Unable to configure/setup 5.1 audio with 12.04

  I am kinda new to Ubuntu as well. I have been having this issue with audio for quite sometime now. Initially, when I installed version 11.10 (I guess), I was able to use my 5.1 speakers without any issues. If my memory serves me right, it was after an update that the 5.1 audio stopped working and the video resolution would not get saved. I temporarily fixed the resolution issue by creating a start-up shell script that would update the resolution and load it. But the issue with audio has been going on for quite sometime now. Even though I have option for 5.1, only two speakers seem to be working. I thought an upgrade should fix the issue and so upgraded the OS to version 12.04. I also tried uninstalling alsa and pulse audio, reinstalling them, changing the /etc/pulse/daemon.conf channels from 2 to 6. I have also tried installing pavucontrol but nothing seems to have worked and the issue still persists. Is there anything else you could suggest? • Problem getting GOBI 2000 HS to work

  I've been trying to get my integrated GOBI WWAN card to work under 10.10 for a while now. I was able to get the network manager to see the card after installing the gobi-loader package. I was able to setup the connection, but i cannot establish a connection to Verizon. Below is the output from /var/log/daemon.log as i try to connect. • How to troubleshoot ethernet port on laptop

  I have a problem with my wired connection. To be more specific, my laptop doesn't seems to recognize that I have plugged in an ethernet cable. I tried to download new drivers for my ethernet card, but I couldn't find any solutions. Maybe because I am new to Linux, so I'm not familiar with running commands in the terminal. I have changed recently my internet provider, and since then my ethernet cable is not recognized by the laptop. At that time I was still on Windows. • Current State EA: Focus on the Integration!!!

  A recent project has me at the front end of a large implementation effort covering multiple software components. In addition to the challenges of integrating 15-20 separate and new software components there is the challenge of integrating the portfolio into an existing environment. Like other clients I've worked with and other environments I've worked in for many years, this is typical. The applications are undocumented and under patched leading to a mystery for any architect leading change.  We can boil down most architecture development methodologies (ADM) into first understanding the current/baseline state and then envisioning one or more future states. Many pundits emphasize the need to focus on the future/target states. I agree since enterprise architecture (EA) is about where you are going and not so much where you have been. But to be effective in the future, I contend some focused time needs to be spent on the current state. And specifically on the integration. Integration is always the difficult part of a project (I might put it more coarsely at a cocktail party). While I don't have a case study, my anecdotal experience suggests poorly integrated application portfolios tend to cost more to operate and create entropy when trying to respond to new changes and opportunities. In the aforementioned project, I was able to get one of our EAs assigned to focus on just integration almost immediately. While we're still early in the process, this EA is uncovering all sorts of information that will greatly assist our future state planning for this solution. • Accessing SQL Server data from iOS apps

  Almost all mobile apps need access to external data to be valuable. With a huge amount of existing business data residing in Microsoft SQL Server databases, and an ever-increasing drive to make more and more available to mobile users, how do you marry the rather separate worlds of Microsoft's SQL Server and Apple's iOS devices? The classic answer: write a web service layer Look at any of the questions on this topic asked in Internet discussion forums, and you'll inevitably see the answer, "just write a web service and use that!". But what does this process gain? For a well-designed database with a solid security model, and business logic in the database, writing a custom web service on top of this just to access some of the data from a different platform seems inefficient and unnecessary. Desktop applications interact with the SQL Server directly - why should mobile apps be any different? The better answer: the iSql SDK Working along the lines of "if you do something more than once, make it shared," we set about coming up with a better solution for the general case. And so the iSql SDK was born: sitting between SQL Server and your iOS apps, it provides the simple API you're used to if you've been developing desktop apps using the Microsoft SQL Native Client. It turns out a web service remained a sensible idea: HTTP is much more suited to the Big Bad Internet than SQL Server's native TDS protocol, removing the need for complex configuration, firewall configuration, and the like. However, rather than writing a web service for every app that needs data access, we made the web service generic, serving only as a proxy between the SQL Server and a client library integrated into the iPhone or iPad app. This client library handles all the network communication, and provides a clean API. OSQL in 25 lines of code As an example of how to use the API, I put together a very simple app that allowed the user to enter one or more SQL statements, and displayed the results in a rather primitively formatted text field. • Projective texture and deferred lighting

  In my previous question, I asked whether it is possible to do projective texturing with deferred lighting. Now (more than half a year later) I have a problem with my implementation of the same thing. I am trying to apply this technique in light pass. (my projector doesn't affect albedo). Problem is that projection doesn't appear. Here is an image of my situation: The green lines are the rendered projector frustum. Where is my mistake hidden? I am using XNA 4. Thanks for advice and sorry for my English. EDIT: Shader above is working but projection was too small. When I changed the Scale property to a large value (e.g. 100), the projection appears. But when the camera moves toward the projection, the projection expands, as can bee seen on this YouTube video.
