  • Error message when trying to insert method into touchesBegan

    - by Rob
    I am trying to create a new method within my TapDetectingImageView file and it's giving me a warning that it cannot find the method even though I have it declared in the .h file. The specific three warnings all point to the @end line in the .m file when I build it and they say: "Incomplete implementation of class 'TapDetectingImageView' ; 'Method definition for '-functionA:' not found" ; "Method definition for '-functionB:' not found" What am I missing? Am I not allowed to do this in a protocol file like TapDetectingImageView? In my .h file is: @interface TapDetectingImageView : UIImageView <AVAudioPlayerDelegate> { id <TapDetectingImageViewDelegate> delegate; } @property (nonatomic, assign) id <TapDetectingImageViewDelegate> delegate; -(void) functionA:(NSString*)aVariable; -(void) functionB:(NSString*)aVariable; @end In my .m file is: -(void)functionA:(NSString*)aVariable { // do stuff in this function with aVariable } -(void)functionB:(NSString*)aVariable { // do stuff in this function with aVariable }

  • Rapid taps on an OpenGL ES app introducing input delay

    - by Tim R.
    I am starting out writing a 2D game in OpenGL ES, and I have encountered an odd problem: if I rapidly tap the touchscreen, the input starts lagging behind the display. The more times I tap, the more delay it causes between the input and any indication of that input onscreen. It only happens if I intentionally tap very rapidly, but not from tapping and dragging with any number of fingers. What could be causing this? Excessive details follow: Both accelerometer input and taps are delayed by just tapping. The only events I am responding to are touchesBegan (below) in my EAGLView and accelerometer:(UIAccelerometer *)accelerometer didAccelerate:(UIAcceleration *)acceleration in my Game object. There doesn't seem to be any upper limit to the amount of delay: I've gotten up to 12 seconds of delay by tapping rapidly with five fingers. I have not seen any drops in framerate (it stays constantly at 60 fps) in the OpenGL ES tool in Instruments or by taking 1/the time between updates. Possibly relevant code: - (void) drawView:(id) sender { [game update:allTouches]; [renderer render:game]; } -(void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { allTouches = [event allTouches]; } allTouches is a pointer that gets passed to my Game every update, which passes it to each GameObject in their update methods.

  • Ideas for loading initial data in an iPhone application?

    - by Derek Clarkson
    Hi all, In my app I want to load some initial data to show the user how it works. The app uses a CoreData managed sqllite db. SO far I've thought of 3 options: Write code into a class to programmatically create the data. Create a xml file in the apps resources and load through a NSXmlParser whose delegate creates the entries in the sqllite db. Same as option #2, but use a json file and bring in a 3rd party lib to read it. Are there other options I have not found yet? and given that I'm talking about perhaps 6 records per table when there are 3 tables, which would you choose?

  • How to use a method with more than one parameters to create custom buttons

    - by iphonix
    I am repeating my codes few times to create custom buttons, I am trying to create a method and create all my required buttons just by called that method and using two parameters, btnTitle and btnAction. My Codes for the method -(void) addnewButton:(NSString *) btnTitle withAction:UIAction btnAction; { // Add a custom edit navigation button editButton = [[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:NSLocalizedString((btnTitle), @"") style:UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered target:self action:@selector(btnAction)] autorelease]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = editButton; } Now how shall I call this method to create a button?

  • how do I get the program to Know which annotation is selected and be able to access properties of it

    - by kevin Mendoza
    So far my program can display a database of custom annotation views. Eventually I want my program to be able to display extra information after a button on the annotation bubble is clicked. Each element in the database has a unique entry Number, so I thought it would be a good idea to add this entry number as a property of the custom annotation. The problem I am having is that after the button is clicked and the program switches to a new view I am unable to retrieve the entry number of the annotation I selected. Below is the code that assigns the entry Number property to the annotation: for (id mine in mines) { workingCoordinate.latitude = [[mine latitudeInitial] doubleValue]; workingCoordinate.longitude = [[mine longitudeInitial] doubleValue]; iProspectAnnotation *tempMine = [[iProspectAnnotation alloc] initWithCoordinate:workingCoordinate]; [tempMine setTitle:[mine mineName]]; [tempMine setAnnotationEntryNumber:[mine entryNumber]]; } [mines dealloc]; When the button on an annotation is selected, this is the code that initializes the new view: - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView annotationView:(MKAnnotationView *)view calloutAccessoryControlTapped:(UIControl *)control { mineInformationController *controller = [[mineInformationController alloc] initWithNibName:@"mineInformationController" bundle:nil]; controller.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleCrossDissolve; [self presentModalViewController:controller animated:YES]; [controller release]; } and lastly is my attempt at retrieving the entryNumber property from the new view so that I can compare it to the mines database and retrieve more information on the array element. iProspectFresno_LiteAppDelegate *appDelegate = (iProspectFresno_LiteAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; NSMutableArray* mines = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithArray:(NSMutableArray *)appDelegate.mines]; for(id mine in mines) { if ([[mine entryNumber] isEqualToNumber: /*the entry Number of the selected annotation*/]) { /* display the information in the mine object */ } } So how do I access this entry number property in this new view controller?

  • Optimal Activity Stack Order for a Main Menu button?

    - by kefs
    I'm developing an app that starts with a main menu, and then continues through three different steps (activities) to a final activity where the task is marked complete. On this last activity, i have several additional options (add note, share, etc..) and i also have a return to main menu button. My question is.. how do i stack the activities so that calling finish() on the final activity will return back to the first activity launched? i am currently just starting the new activity via an intent, so pressing back on this screen doesn't return me to home as i would like. Sorry in advance for being so convoluted in my desc

  • iPhone: Push TableViewController onto stack. Is this possible?

    - by Nic Hubbard
    I have a view which contains a UIButton. When this is clicked, it calls a method that loads another NIB. Now, normally, that nib would load a view onto the stack, and everything would be fine. But, I am trying to load a TableViewController, and all I get it errors. What is the proper method for loading a TableViewController and putting it on the top of the stack?

  • @selector and return value

    - by user320926
    The idea it's very easy, i have an http download class, this class must support the http authentication but it's basically a background thread so i would like to avoid to prompt directly to the screen, i would like to use a delegate method to require from outside of the class, like a viewController. But i don't know if is possible or if i have to use a different syntax. This class use this delegate protocol: //Updater.h @protocol Updater <NSObject> -(NSDictionary *)authRequired; @optional -(void)statusUpdate:(NSString *)newStatus; -(void)downloadProgress:(int)percentage; @end @interface Updater : NSThread { ... } This is the call to the delegate method: //Updater.m // This check always fails :( if ([self.delegate respondsToSelector:@selector(authRequired:)]) { auth = [delegate authRequired]; } This is the implementation of the delegate method //rootViewController.m -(NSDictionary *)authRequired; { // TODO: some kind of popup or modal view NSMutableDictionary *ret=[[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [ret setObject:@"utente" forKey:@"user"]; [ret setObject:@"password" forKey:@"pass"]; return ret; }

  • Help modifying QuartzDemo example application

    - by BittenApple
    Can anyone please, oh sweet pain, please take me out of my misery by writing a simple example on how the heck you pass a number (int value) which gets created in 1 .m file to another .m file. In the apple demo application called QuartzDemo, there is a file called QuartzImages.m This file has the following line of code: [CODE]CGPDFPageRef page = CGPDFDocumentGetPage(pdf, 1);[/CODE] Notice the (pdf, 1) in that line. This number should be replaced with an integer variable. Now, there is also a file called MainViewController.m. In that file, there is a method? called -(void)viewDidLoad In that method, I want to assign a number to the integer variable which would replace the damn "1" with whatever number I want. I have been pulling my hair trying to get this done, reading beginning iPhone 3 Development book, dev documentation and God knows what not, without results. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Sigh.

  • avmutablecomposition insertEmptyTimeRange

    - by smartfaceweb
    I have created an avmutablecomposition and tried to use insertEmptyTimeRange to generate 1 minute of silence. This doesn't appear to be working. I have also tried creating an avmutablecompositiontrack using addMutableTrackWithMediaType:preferredTrackID: and then insertEmptyTimeRange on the track and still no success. To give some background on my app, I allow users to add audio samples a timeline and then playback or export and this is working really well using the av classes. The problem is that I need to make sure that the audio is exactly 1 min (for example). Regardless of the info about my specific app above, is it possible to insert an empty time range into a comp or comptrack?

  • UITableViewController truncating section header title

    - by dl
    I've got an iPad app with a UITableViewController. I am setting the header titles for my table sections using - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section When the table loads, if I scroll down too quickly, when a section header appears on screen it will be truncated to the first letter and ... (ie "Holidays" is trucated to "H..."). If I keep scrolling down until the header goes off the top of the view and then scroll back up to it, the title appears correctly in full. Has anyone ever experienced this?

  • UIAlertView Will not show

    - by John
    I have a program that is requesting a JSON string. I have created a class that contains the connect method below. When the root view is coming up, it does a request to this class and method to load up some data for the root view. When I test the error code (by changing the URL host to 127.0.0.1), I expect the Alert to show. Behavior is that the root view just goes black, and the app aborts with no alert. No errors in debug mode on the console, either. Any thoughts as to this behavior? I've been looking around for hints to this for hours to no avail. Thanks in advance for your help. Note: the conditional for (error) is called, as well as the UIAlertView code. - (NSString *)connect:(NSString *)urlString { NSString *jsonString; UIApplication *app = [UIApplication sharedApplication]; app.networkActivityIndicatorVisible = YES; NSError *error = nil; NSURLResponse *response = nil; NSURL *url = [[NSURL alloc] initWithString:urlString]; NSURLRequest *req = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url cachePolicy:NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringCacheData timeoutInterval:10]; NSData *_response = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest: req returningResponse: &response error: &error]; if (error) { /* inform the user that the connection failed */ //AlertWithMessage(@"Connection Failed!", message); UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Oopsie!" message:@"Unable to connect! Try later, thanks." delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"OK" otherButtonTitles: nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; } else { jsonString = [[[NSString alloc] initWithData:_response encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding] autorelease]; } app.networkActivityIndicatorVisible = NO; [url release]; return jsonString; }
