  Right now my setup has a nice big 24" flatscreen in the center, and a 19" flatscreen to the left. And a big gaping hole on the right. I have a 3rd monitor to put there, but I'm not sure how to get the computer to recognize it. Do I need a graphics card with 3 ports? Or can I span the monitors over non SLI-Linked graphics cards? Is it possible to plug my 3rd monitor into the on-board VGA port and have it work?

  The network: * A windows 7 PC with 2 NICs - one connected to an old style ethernet hub - the other to the internet - with internet sharing enabled * An Apple iMac connected to the hub, successfully utilizing the ICS to access the internet. My problem: Using the Mac, copying from the internet is fast. However, if I connect to a SMB: share on the Windows 7 PC and try and copy anything a few kb the copy operation is appallingly slow with my network card using the Windows 7 control panel showing ~.1% utilization. The NICs are 100Mbs and show a 10x larger throughput (now ~1%) if I download large files over the internet using the Mac. WTF?

• Netgear WNR1000 WiFi speed

  I have Netgear WNR1000 150N, Macbook Pro 13" with Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0, Network connection 60mbps When I connect through the cable I easily get around 60mbps. When I go through the WiFi it's capable to get only 32mbps at tops. Any ideas why is that? Is that my router limitation or maybe my WiFi card? If it is routers fault what router would you suggest. E.g., when one simply connects to that AP (well, there should be DHCP or something for that) and goes to serverfault.com, all the traffic goes through that SOCKS proxy. The cable has 2 volume wheels labelled "Game" and "Chat". I would like to be able to control, say Google Hangouts or Skype volume with the chat wheel, and all other audio with the other wheel. Is this possible? The closest thing I can find is "Communications Device" vs "Device" under the Sound control panel in Windows.

• Samsung syncmaster SA300

  I recently bought the above moniter. i am now using the DVI port in the moniter but the picture quality stil seems average like the same when i was using the VGA port. THere hasnt been a noticeable change. I am using the DVI output from my graphics card but i thought the picture quality should be alot more High Def than what it is. im just really disappointed in the out come as was expecting nearly High Def quality from my new moniter but just seems a bit normal. Could i need to change any settings?

• Weird problem, special characters after formatting the hard drive, computer not starting 0_o

  Hya friends , Last night my computer was working fine. But today when i came back from college and started it , it was starting fine but after sometime it's getting restarted , again and again getting restarted at different points , so i tried to boot it in safe mode but same problem. Now after all this , i finally decided to format the drive C (it is in 80 GB) and load new OS windows XP3. After formatting and loading xp3 sufficient files , when it was getting rebooted for copying the actual os files , it hung and a weird screen came. • Ubuntu displaying GDM but no login

  Ubuntu (Wubi, Lucid Lynx) boots and shows the login screen itself with the background and plays the boot sound but a list of users is never displayed. A mouse is on screen and I can move it but, alas, it does nothing. Dropping to a virtual term with CTRL+Alt+F# drops me to a cursor but I can't actually input anything. I can't boot into single-user with GRUB since it's Wubi and it never specifies a boot kernel directly in GRUB's initial menu.lst (only in files that it then reads from). Other details that may be helpful: Single monitor Same video card that's been working for months No new hardware Edit: I ssh'd in since it evidently booted up the sshd which is handy. dpkg-reconfigure gdm didn't do anything helpful. I do, however, get a "no seat-id found" when manually running it.

  I have a setup in which there is a Computer running windows XP, with 3 monitors plugged into it, with a "Matrox Millennium P750" Graphics card. What I want is to enable mirroring of ALL THREE MONITORS, meaning I want all the monitors to display the same image. In Matrox Powerdesk, it does not have an option to do this, and I'm pretty sure that Windows XP does not support it nativley. I really should only need some software/drivers, right? What can i do to display the same thing on 3 screens?

• Can't connect Alienware M11x wireless to internet thru families router

  Morning All, Have an Alienware M11x loaded with Win 7 Premium with the Dell half card wifi. Also have a Netgear and Belkin USB external adapters (b/g and N to include dual radios. No joy either. Families Internet is served thru Charter and they use a Motorola Router. No matter if we reset the router, I cannot connect to the Net but can talk to the router. BTW... my brother only uses WEP as a number of connected items are old and my folks are not in a high threat area for attacks. Frustrated, as I know what I'm doing but this really has me stumped. Any thoughts? Much appreciated, Jim

• Cheapest way to go for somebody who wants to accept payments, but won't be accepting hundreds of ord

  I have a client who lectures, and wants to sell spots to his lecture online. I would preferably like to set him up with a solution that allows me to collect billing information on his site. My experience with e-commerce is in using solutions like Authorize.net, however this does not seem cost effective since I can't imagine he's making a huge profit off of this. I'm afraid he would lose money in the cost of using Authorize.net (or any payment gateway for the matter). I could use google checkout or paypal express, but this would require me to leave his site (although with google checkout, it looks like, from a glance, that I could just submit to their form from my server, and likely with paypal as well, but I don't know if this is against their TOS). What is the most cost-effective solution for accepting credit card payments in this situation?

  Hello. I updated my Ubuntu, and after that there were two new lines on my GRUB screen. Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-16-generic Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-16-generic (recovery mode) Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic (recovey mode) Ubuntu 9.04, memtest86+ Other operating systems: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Do I have two kernels installed? Do the old entries are still useful? Each kernel takes up space? :P And that's not all, when a get into the old version of Ubuntu, the wireless card stops working on any Ubuntu version until I get into Windows and then go back to Ubuntu. I recently got my hands on a MSA50 SAS Enclosure (10 x SAS HDD bays w/ SAS in/out interface) and wondering what you guys recommended as far as an addon raid controller for one of the pciex slots. I have both slots free Full and Half sizes. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, I am an I.T. • Colored blocks on boot

  When my laptop tries to boot right after POST I see colored blocks with flashing symbols in them. I am able to boot from windows PE cd. Tried fixboot and fixmbr with no success. I have also tried replacing boot files (ntldr, io.sys etc..) and removing video card drivers from windows\system32\drivers. The drive is seagate 2.5 ATA 160GB and has one NTFS partition on it. I have already fixed this issue by reformating the drive and reinstalling everything but after couple of weeks I get the same issue again. The diagnostics software shows no bad sectors on it and virus scan didn't find anything. Does anybody have an idea what this might be? UPDATE: tried defragmenting the hard drive just in case, but still no luck

• Bad sound quality of 3.5mm headphone with mic on laptop

  I have a set of headphones that have a built-in mic for hands-free calling. They just work great on my Sony Ericsson Cedar cellphone. The problem is that when I connect headphone to my Dell N5010 laptop to listen to music, the quality is horrible, with very weak or no vocals. They funny part is when I hold down the talk button on the mic (headphone mic), at which point it sounds great, but goes back to bad quality as soon as I release talk button. Also, when I take out the jack a little, at some point, the sound is great but I have to hold the jack there. I looked for any configuration on the sound card driver but find nothing. Besides using a glue to hold down the talk button of mic :), is there any other solution?

  in closed solaris i knew how to do this. Edit /etc/inet/ipnodes, change /etc/defaultrouter, reboot in opensolaris there is not defaultrouter file. first thing I tried was System-admin-network switch to manual enter static address and netmask and gateway. press 'activate' "this interface cannot be activated". No error messages given. Close widget, open again. Now hangs for a minute and then closes try edit /etc/inet/ipnodes, reboot eth card not up. Network widget hangs then closes Works perfectly on DHCP

• How to quickly switch monitors on multi-monitor setup? (W7)

  At my desktop PC, I have 3 displays hooked up on my Palit GeForce GTX 480 to extend my desktop: DVI: Samsung SyncMaster T220 (22" 16:10, 1680x1050, as my main) DVI: Samsung SyncMaster 940BF (19" 4:3, 1280x1024) HDMI: Sony Bravia KDL-32D3000 (32" 16:9, 1360x768) As expected, the GFX card can only utilize 2 of the displays at any given time, so I have to manually switch using Windows' "Display Properties" dialog, each time I want to switch between them. I've tried UltraMon, DisplayFusion and PowerStrip (so please don't refer me to a question where those are given as solutions) but they are unable to switch monitors. Instead they can only change display resolutions and settings on the existing active monitors, with specially weird results when I've saved the monitor states and then tried to switch monitors using the saved states! Any idea on how to bypass the awful "Display Properties" dialog and it's "confirm your change" timer? Thanks in advance.

  I have set of two lenova laptops in which Fedora core 13 is installed. In one machine, the monitor is detected properly such that It is possible to connect another monitor. But In another laptop, monitor is shown as unknown monitor. I tried to fix it by reinstalling xorg-x11-drv-intel.i686. But the problem remains same(unknown monitor). it is not possible to connect another monitor with this setting. Laptop model: G460. Graphics card: Intel Graphics Media accelerator HD. Thanks!

• How can I use 2 monitors plus laptop with my Dell e6420 w/ Nvidia nvs 4200m

  I have just hooked up a 2nd external monitor to my Dell e6420 laptop with a Nvidia NVS 4200m graphics card, running Windows 8 64 bit. However, the computer won't let me have both monitors and the laptop display active at the same time. I installed the latest Nvidia graphics drivers (310.70) but it claims that my GPU can only support up to 2 monitors. Nivdia's website implies differently (as does various other laptops around the office). The monitors are connected both via DVI to my dell docking station that has multiple DVI ports. Both monitors are working correctly, I just can't get all 3 working together. Attempting to download the driver from dell fails, as their driver installer is broken apparently Any ideas?

• No HDMI audio - Windows 8 - ASUS H81M-PLUS

  I have an issue with HDMI audio on Windows 8 using an ASUS H81M-PLUS motherboard (without an external GFX card). There are many forum posts advising you to go into playback devices and setting HDMI to be default - I have done this. To eliminate what works and what doesn't work: I have not been able to get sound from my HDTV using HDMI. I have used this HDMI cable with my PS3, so this cable should be fine. I am able to use the HDMI cable in extended mode, so that I have two monitors (including the TV), just no audio. This HDMI cable goes straight from the motherboard to the TV. Below I have included 'Device manager', and 'Playback Devices' (Sound). Device Manager Playback Devices, showing disabled and disconnected devices I am at a loss. I have uninstalled all drivers, and then rebooted and made windows look for the correct ones, made sure the HDMI device was default. Thanks, Paul

I configured it and when I try to connect my laptop to the domain name, in this case, creationsmicroweb.ca (doesn't exist, don't try, for local only), I can't get connected. My laptop just doesn't see it. I don't know why! There's a resume of my config: Domain Name: creationsmicroweb.ca Forest: new, principal domain controller IP: Fixed (192.168.1.100) DNS Name: none (just for local, I ignored them) NETBIOS name: MICROWEB If someone as found why, please help me! • Split internal USB pinouts - is it possible?

  I've currently got a situation in my PC where I have 3 devices that connect to the motherboard via the onboard USB pinouts. The problem is, I only have two sets of USB pinouts on my motherboard. Is there any way of connecting two devices to one set of pinouts? Essentially, I'm looking for the functionality of a USB hub, but I'd like it to be inside the case, and provide pinouts rather than regular USB ports. Update: I don't need any more USB ports, I have devices that use the USB pinouts. I already have extra USB ports that aren't used, so adding an PCI USB card doesn't really help anything.
