• Nautilus left pane does not expand

  I would prefer the left pane of Nautilus to behave like Windows file manager. It should have expandable/collapsible trees, and if I have /home/mydir-1, /home/mydir-2, I should be able to see them both in the left pane. When I click on one of them, the files in that dir should show in the right pane. If Nautilus can't do it, please suggest a better file-manager which does. I would rather not open 3 panes in Nautilus to do what two panes do just fine in Windows File Manager. Secondly how can I open two instances of Nautilus? And if it isn't possible with Nautilus, could it be done with some other file manager?

• -webkit-linear-gradient Not working in Dreamweaver CS6

  I've tried multiple times to apply the following piece of code in a CSS document: display: block; width: 500px; margin: 500px auto; padding: 15px; text-align: center; border: 4px solid blue; background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top,black,white); outline: 7px solid red; Everything appears correctly, except the gradient. I have CS6 Live View turned on, and it still refuses to appear. All I get in my box is a white background, as opposed to the black to white gradient. However, when I type the same line of code into the trial of Coda 2 I downloaded, it works perfectly. Is there anything I can do to resolve the issue?

I know that in both ways, the out.close() will be executed because I know that whether the exception happened, the code behind the catch clause will always be executed.

This became necessary since I am running Linux and Windows in parallel and now need the redundancy for both OS (Im am going to use RAID1 / Mirroring). Therefore I am searching for a hardware raid controller which is well supported by linux / ubuntu (reporting smart values, stats for the harddrives, etc...). • Ad networks that will serve via HTTPS?

  I've built a website with 160K page views per month that serves every page over HTTPS. The recent FireSheep news will probably increase the adoption of "HTTPS everywhere" but it's been very hard to find ad networks and affiliates that will serve their content via HTTPS. I don't want to use these because I don't want my visitors to get "broken security" notification from their browsers (and of course, relevant ads would be a leak of private information). I'm tired of spending a ton of time signing up with ad networks and affiliates only to find out down the road that they don't support HTTPS (e.g. AdSense). Can anyone suggest any options or provide a pointer to a list of these somewhere?

  With backlinkwatch.com I can get a list of pages that link to a particular website. Unfortunately, it lists tons of obscure blogs and small forums, it has hard to find what link is really important. Is there a similar service, where links would be displayed sorted by "importance"? For instance, a link New York Times would be shown at the top of the list, while links in small blogs would not appear before a few pages. "Importance" can be subjective, so I suggest using the PageRank, but other metrics could be fine too.

• Architecture for dashbaord showing aggregated stats

  I'm trying to find the best architecture for an application that shows a dashboard with aggregated stats that come from another one (e.g. number of sales in the last 12 months, current sales this month, a fairly complex score, performance of users over last 30 days, etc.) There is a fair bit of business logic that lives in Application 1 but the aggregated data gets saved in Application 2 (dashboard). What's the best way to create the aggregate data? 1) Pull data directly from Application 1 database and duplicate business logic for score calculation etc. 2) Push data from Application 1 to Application 2 somehow 3) Aggregate data in Application 1 on the fly and provide and api for Application 2 4) Other (probably) Please suggest solutions, Thanks.

  i'm a fan of ubuntu, but for now i want my installation to be perfect for my new laptop, its a series 5 of samsung with A6 processor. Somebody suggest what to do? or mention any problems related to this? Im more concern of the drivers to increase its performance because i am to develop an android app. I need "i dont know" to make this unit run as fast as possible without any dangerous tradeoffs. • Cron doesn't execute one of the scheduled jobs

  I'm using a lubuntu desktop, distribution Ubuntu 13.10, i686. This is my problem: in the job list scheduled by cron a job hasn't effect, but in /var/log/syslog its execution is traced. This is the relative log line: Jun 4 09:06:01 kiosk CRON[14189]: (root) CMD (/usr/bin/xinput set-prop 12 --type=float "Coordinate Transformation Matrix" 0 -1 1 1 0 0 0 0 1 /tmp/mybackup.log) This job should rotate touchscreen mapping. I try different solutions: I substitute in crontab the with bash -c "", I set "export DISPLAY=:0.0" ("for Graphics related job in Unix Environment we need to set first the DISPLAY...") before the command,...and many other! I know there are a lots of details affect cron execution (path, environment variables, special character and other) and I have no more idea by now :( Could some gentleman suggest me an idea? where can I find the problem? But it seems like more of a formality than anything. No one really points out problems in the code for fear of offending other developers. The few times I've tried to ask for changes were met with very defensive and reluctant attitudes. This is of course not good. Not only are we spending the time to code review, but we're getting literally zero value from it. Is this an issue that needs to be addressed by individual developers, or are there techniques for suggesting changes without stepping on other people's toes?

  There are more than 10 categories in my site, users can register more than one category. My php script prepare contents of each category, according to user preference my script merge those contents for each user. so every user can get what category they want. Problem is I want to send 340+ mails per hour and dreamhost dont allow. What do you suggest? I think to a service like mailchimp but I couldnt find that scenario, do they support category & content etc. Can I use smtp in dreamhost?

• /dev/sda2 contains a filesystem with error after partitioning

  I just wanted to create a separate home partition on my Ubuntu 12.10 system. I booted the liveDVD, resized the sda2 partition (28gb of data resized to 30gb based on MiB [originally on a 100gb partition]) and made a new ext4 partition for the home folder. The drive is an SSD drive. I had changed the settings (noatime etc.) for SSD succesfully a week ago. On reboot I get the following error: /dev/sda2 contains a filesystem with errors Inode 74669 has an invalid extent node (blk 6881289) fsd / [953] terminated with status 4 What would you suggest me to do? If I can avoid a clean install that would save me a lot of time (I had just done all the config). I was following this HOWTO, but I did not get to changing any of the files or configs other than those with gparted. I have a (two-week old) SSD Samsung drive which is functioning just fine (other specs see bottom of this question). Other specs: 64bit 12.10, i7, 8gb ram, nvidia.

  I have a question about Software Architecture, anyone can help me or give me some hints currently, I have a J2EE project which deploys in a server, I should a Java Standard project(J2SE) should run 24 hours x 7 days to monitor something it could not run separately, because the Java Project shared the some same classes such as Java Bean classes with the J2EE project maybe my design is not correct, can anyone suggest me what should I do? • disk not accessible

  i formatted my hard drive yesterday and it was working well even after the formatting. But when I restarted my system again , is is showing that the space is alloted to my files but they are inaccessible. I have even tried to unhide the files and folders, if they got hidden somehow. But nothing works. the hard drive is being shown empty but the properties are saying that it still conatins the data : http://imgur.com/ObjTE in the image, it is showing that the directory has only 1 file of size:4.8 kbps but the space being used by the drive is 11.6 GB. do suggest some solution.

I've been a .NET developer for two years and have also done some objective c for an iPhone app recently. I realise I would probably need to work on my C++ chops and have been having a play around with FMOD EX and doing a lot of research into the industry. • Playing a sound on collision?

  I'm making a pool game. I've separated the gameplay logic and the physics into two systems, entities and physics. Each entity holds a reference to a body which the physics system uses. The body itself holds a reference back to it's owner. When an entity collides with another entity, the Collided(Entity other) method is called on both. What I'm trying to do now is to play a sound when both entities colliding are of a certain subclass. I'm not sure how to do that. I could do it in the Collided method, but then the sound would be played two times at the same time, since the method was called on both entities. How do you suggest I do this?

Kindly do understand i am not speaking about jailbroken programs(for jail broken i phones), i do not have any one near me who will lend me a MAC to publish my app . First of all my drives are : HDD 640 Gb SSD Samsung 830 series 128 Gb Whats the best partitiong for theese drives ? 128 Gb is sure enormous amount of space only for / (root) . Is it a good choice if i make 2 partitions on ssd (20 Gb / and 100 /home) and leave hdd as backub drive for my data (files,movies,music etc) ? In this case what mount point must have hdd ? Can you suggest me the best partitiong for my drives ?

  I am not familiar with 3D graphics, and I'd like to know the right way to render some 2D figures on different points of a wider face of a 3D object. My 3D object is just a cube representing a poker table. I have a 2D png for players' placeholders, and I'd like to render these figures on the 3D object where needed. An alternative solution would be to render the whole face with a big picture containing all the placeholders figures. However, it would be a waste of memory and thus less efficient.
