  I need to implement task which is quite common feature for RichTextEditors - take HTML from clipboard. Can anyone help with guide on how to solve this task? It has to be cross platform (IE, FF, Chrome, Opera). • Will TFS 2010 support non-contiguous merging?

  I know that merging non-contiguous changesets at once may not be a good idea. However there is at least one situation in which merging non-contiguous changesets is (probably) not going to break anything: when there are no intervening changes on the affected individual files. (At least, it wouldn't break any worse than would a series of cherry-picked merges, checked in each time; and at least this way you would discover breakage before checking in). For instance, let's say you have a Main and a Development branch. They start out identical (e.g. after a release). They have two files, foo.cs and bar.cs. Alice makes a change in Development\foo.cs and checks it in as changeset #1001. Bob makes a change in Development\bar.cs and checks it in as #1002. Alice makes another change to Development\foo.cs and checks it in as #1003. Now we could in theory merge both changes #1001 and #1003 from dev-to main in a single operation. If we try to merge at the branch level, dev-to-main, we will have to do it as two operations. In this simple, contrived example it's simple enough to merge the one file - but in the real world where there would be many files involved, it's not so simple. Non-contiguous merging is one of the reasons given for why "merge by workitem" is not implemented in TFS.

  I am developing an image cropper and would like to ask you the following question: In order to prevent the default drag n' drop action when you press the left button on an image and keeping it pressed try to move the mouse, wouldn't it be cross-browser if to just use the picture as a background to a div box?   We have several legacy & 3'd-party systems in organization that use several RDBMS vendors (& more specific data storages). Cross-system data reporting (as well as extra-reports that are not implemented in 3'd-party systems) is required with charts and population of templates (winword, excel). Reporting system is visioned as intranet web-site with custom user access to reports. We expect ~50 reports per day. Would you suggest to use BizTalk or any other integration software if commercial-department doesn't plan to buy anything expensive. Would you suggest to create centralized data storage for reporting that is populated regularly or rely on on-demand services that providers always up-to-request data. Thank you in advance!

• C - fork() and sharing memory

  I need my parent and child process to both be able to read and write the same variable (of type int) so it is "global" between the two processes. I'm assuming this would use some sort of cross-process communication and have one variable on one process being updated. I did a quick google and IPC and various techniques come up but I don't know which is the most suitable for my situation. • Learning C++ from AS3

  I'm a decent AS3 programmer. I work in games, and that is my reason for programming. While there is much I can accomplish with Adobe AIR, my understanding at this point is that learning C++ is probably a good direction to take. I would learn a lot of valuable lower level programming if I needed it down the road, and I would have an easier time learning other C oriented languages. I see a lot of information for people looking to learn AS3 who know C++, but not the other way around. Why C++? Cross platform compatibility is important to me, so I'm not particularly interested in C# or Objective-C at this junction. I'm also aware of HaXe, and while I love the concept, after doing some research I'm worried about investing a lot of time into something so recent with limited learning resources and documentation. I'm looking for advice and resources (books, articles) related to this topic. Thanks in advance!

• How can I split the suckerfish Menu into two pieces so that I can put it in two frame?

I would like to enhance it to support cross-frames . It means, the horizontal part of the whole menu (html,css,javascript etc..in demo page) will exist in the upper frame and the rest will be put in the lower frame. Edit: There will be only one menu item in the horizontal part. It will be still ok if I can click that menu_item rather than mouse-hovering to show the lower part of the menu . I'm running in to some other cross-compatibility issues as well with the margin spacing so I'm not even sure this is the best way to go about this. Obviously it'd be great if I could just begin with the div as display:hidden and then animate it to visible, but I haven't been able to do that. Any input is appreciated, either with advice on how to save the margin after form submission, or suggestion on better method to achieve this hide/reveal. Thanks, Brian

• Text to a PNG on App Engine (Python)

  Note: I am cross-posting this from App Engine group because I got no answers there. As part of my site about Japan, I have a feature where the user can get a large PNG for use as desktop background that shows the user's name in Japanese. After switching my site hosting entirely to App Engine, I removed this particular feature because I could not find any way to render text to a PNG using the image API. In other words, how would you go about outputting an unicode string on top of an image of known dimensions (1024x768 for example), so that the text will be as large as possible horizontally, and centered vertically? Is there a way to do this is App Engine, or is there some external service besides App Engine that could make this easier for me, that you could recommend (besides running ImageMagick on your own server)?

• Compiling zlib for 64 bit on windows

  I am currently working on a cross-platform game for Mac OSX and Windows and I'm having some issues with the ZLib library on Windows 64 bit. My game is focussed on a 64 bit architecture and I am unable to get ZLib to work along with it. When I compile ZLib itself (through make all64 at the source directory of ZLib) it shows no issues but when I want to use it I get a error saying '/usr/local/lib/libz.a(gzread.o):gzread.c:(.text+0x28e): undefined reference to `__errno'' I have included errno.h before I include zlib.h in my project but that doesn't seem to matter. I am compiling my app through the cygwin64 terminal and using the x86_64-w64-mingw32-g++ command, I am also linking directly against the lib64 version (if I remove that it compiles correctly but crashes on running due to it having a x86 lib)

• Windows Phone 7 Application + WCF + SSL + Username Authentication

  Hello, I have developed a test service with WCF, which I try to consume from a Windows Phone 7 Application, however when calling a method from the service I get a weird exception: There was no endpoint listening at https://server/Service.svc that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. The WCF service uses a custom binding with UserNameOverTransport authentication and SSL. For the authorization I am using an implementation of the UserNamePasswordValidator. If I try to consume the service from a console or silverlight application (cross domain policy is enabled) - it works fine (authorization as well). And the most weird thing is that the ServiceReferences.ClientConfig file generated for the WP7 App is exactly the same as the config file generated for the silverlight application. I have no idea what is wrong with my service...

• Pitfalls when converting C++/CLI to C++

  I have a library written in C++/CLI and I want to open it up. I want it to be as cross-platform as possible and be able to write bindings to it for other languages to use (Java, Python, etc, etc).   Of course it would mean you're plugin is not cross-platform but let's focus on the technical side... Is a browser plugin (like done in NPAPI) restricted in what it can do? Or do you get fairly free reign to access the PC and the render-window you're given? For instance can you create Win32/MFC controls in your browser this way? A side question - is your browser plugin conceptually akin to a .DLL, which is therefore just arbitrary compiled code implementing a specific interface for browser control/communication?

This pertains to times when a List is passed in by a caller and needs to have a function applied to change all the contents to a new value. For example, the way Collections.sort(list) changes a list in-place. What is the easiest way given this transforming function and this starting list: String function(String s){ return [some change made to value of s]; } List<String> list = Arrays.asList("Bob", "Steve", "Jim", "Arbby"); The usual way of applying a change to all the values in-place was this: for (int i = 0; i < list.size(); i++) { list.set(i, function( list.get(i) ); } Does lambdas and Java 8 offer: an easier and more expressive way? a way to do this without setting up all the scaffolding of the for(..) loop?

• 3d movement around a sphere

  Hey guys, Im working in 3d for the first time in a long time. Basically im rotating a sphere and projecting x y z cords to place things on the surface based on the spheres X and Y rotation. Heres the code im using: #define piover180 0.01745329252f GLfloat cosy = cos(yrot * piover180); island[i].x = rad * sin(xrot * piover180)* cosy; island[i].y = rad * sin(yrot * piover180); island[i].z = rad * cos(xrot * piover180) * cosy; Problem is the Xrot positioning works fine but the Yrot placement always draw the objects into the north and south pole so they all cross at the top, which isnt correct for rotating. • Is there a need for zero-out DIV's margin and padding?

  I wonder if on any browser div element comes with a preset margin/padding value other than zero. As far as I know, div and span come with zero padding and margin values by standard to make them suitable canvas for style decoration. Even better, is there a definite standard for default styles for all elements that is cross-browser which we can make assumptions upon? For instance FORM comes with top/bottom margins, OL/UL come with padding-left's. I occasionally see a * { margin: 0; padding: 0; } and this just looks like a dirty hack without knowing the reasons or consequences. Anyone has any better approach to this?
