• How to prevent screen locking when lid is closed?

  I have Ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome 3 (no Unity), gnome-screen-saver has been removed and replaced with xscreensaver. The screensaver stuff all works fine -- no complaints there. When I close my laptop lid, even for a second, the screen locks (and the dialog box asking for my password is xscreensaver's). I'd like for this not to happen... • How to automatically resize the Dash when screen dimensions change?

  I use a convertible thinkpad (x201t) and magick-rotation to rotate the screen by 90 degrees in tablet mode. Therefore after rotation the screen's width is only 800 points (the ordinary resolution is 1200x800). The Dash does not adapt to this new state and therefore if I click on it, it is oversized and I cannot reach the applications/files/buttons on its side. Is there a way to tell the Dash that it should only ever use a width of 800 pixels, or any other solution to automatically adapt its size when rotating?

  Does anyone know of a website that will take a full screen shot of another website and let users write notes over it then send that annotated photo by email or private link? Basically looking for quicker way to write notes on a site other than taking a screen shot my self and putting it into photoshop. Just an update, I don't need any browser extensions which I already have and do the same. I'm looking for a website app which does this to give to a client.

• Unable to boot into 11.10 in normal (get a black screen) OR recovery (get just a flashing cursor, no cli)

  Okay, so I had a dual boot of Tango Studio (based on Ubuntu 10.04) and Windows XP. Yesterday I downloaded the .iso for Ubuntu 11.10 and attempted to install from a USB (my BIOS won't normally boot from USB but I had PLOP boot manager on a CD). I booted up Ubuntu from the USB and then from there formatted the partition with Tango on and installed Ubuntu 11.10. On booting up I came into Grub rescue mode. So I booted up from the USB again and used boot-repair to reinstall Grub. After this I would see the normal Grub menu, but on choosing Ubuntu I would come to a black screen. On choosing recovery mode it would begin starting normally with no obvious errors but instead of coming to a cli I would just get a blank screen with a flashing cursor on the top left, not accepting any input. I have since reformatted and reinstalled from a CD rather than USB and had the exact same problem. I used boot-repair again and the result is the same. Output of the most recent boot-repair is at http://paste.ubuntu.com/869805/ I have also tried editing the ubuntu grub entry and replacing quiet with text nomodeset as I saw in an answer to another question. This got me a bit further - I saw the purple ubuntu loading screen but still came to a blank screen after that. Anyway, in most of the other questions in which that is brought up the user is still able to boot into recovery, while I am not. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance, let me know if there's any more info I need to provide! EDIT FOR MORE INFO: I read something saying it's quiet splash that should be replaced with nomodeset. Earlier I had left splash in the line. So i tried it this way and it froze after displaying the following text: fsck from util-linux 2.19.1 mountall: Plymouth command failed mountall: Disconnected from Plymouth /dev/sda5:clean, 139359/1741488 files, 745830/6961125 blocks From a bit of googling it doesn't look like plymouth is essential, but I've checked and I do have the most current versions of mountall and plymouth installed so I don't know why there's a problem EDIT FOR MORE INFO AGAIN: I used dkpg --reconfigure plymouth cause I saw it mentioned in another forum and it still says plymouth command failed on boot

• What is this thing called?!?! (bottom of screen popup)

  I am looking for the name and some possible jquery libraries etc for the standard bottom of screen popup bar. Its like a little bar that pops out on the bottom of the screen after X seconds or however really - generally slides up, about 50px or so high, and usually the length of the main container. used for some form of coupon advertisement or various promotion text etc. What is the proper term for this item, and would there be any good references to best-use guidelines?

When I turn it on, it asks me, since I also have Windows 7 on my laptop, if I want to start with windows 7 or Ubuntu. When I choose Ubuntu, it brings me to the GRUB screen. • xcode UIWebView - Text Fields = No on screen keyboard.

  This application is used to let you use our company basecamp site and only that site. When logged in, if you go to post a new message, you can insert text in the title text field, but if you try to tap in the message body section, it does not bring up the keyboard. I have to assume it's something with my coding, because safari works just fine with it. You can pick textile/html mode or easy. The keyboard does come up in textile/html mode but not in easy formatting mode. Any ideas? Here are some screenshot examples from the iPad. This is shown as the text view not working, no keyboard comes up when you tap in the box. arikburnsDOTcom/forums/fn/IMG_0007.png If you click on 'Switch to Textile/HTML' As seen in the image above, you are presented with this new text box which you can tap in and the keyboard comes up. arikburnsDOTcom/forums/fn/IMG_0006.PNG Now, also note, if you load this same page up in safari, it doesn't actually give you an option as to what text formatting to use, it just works. No options. I basically need to force the 'Textile/HTML' text box somehow and no I cannot change the website code itself. Thanks in advance.

• QT's QGraphicsview clickable icon on screen

  I'm working on a project with QT and am trying to draw icons from a database. I have auxiliary information in the table that I would like to display if the user chooses to see it (i.e. the x,y of the icon and some other options from database). I am debating on would it be better to go through and just redraw all the icons with this information added, or do some sort of looping through the icons and setting some value to true to display the information.   I'm having trouble getting an asset image to scale up when I load it. The new call to BitmapDrawable(Resources, BitmapDrawable) is not available on 1.6 SDK. Is there a workaround to load the BitmapDrawable the old way and then somehow manipulate it? I have tried calling setTargetDensity() to no avail.   When overlay is a Google maps overlay and offsetx, offsety is the pixel distance from the maps center that I want to pan latlong to, the following works. var projection = overlay.getProjection(); var pxlocation = projection.fromLatLngToContainerPixel(latlong); map.panTo(projection.fromContainerPixelToLatLng(new google.maps.Point(pxlocation.x+offsetx,pxlocation.y+offsety))); However, I don't always have an overlay on the map and map.getProjection() returns a projection, not a MapCanvasProjection which does not have the methods I need. Is there a way to do this without making an overlay specificaly for it?

• [android] Screen Orientation Landscape back to Portrait not working

  Hello, I've racked my brain for hours over this issue. I have created a main.xml and designed one for the res/layout-land (landscape) format and another one for portrait in res/layout. When I rotate the emulator (ctrl-F11), my app rotates properly to landscape using the correct main.xml, but a subsequent rotation back to portrait just keeps the landscape mail.xml. This was done in a 2.0 AVD.. Out of despiration I downloaded the new Sample Code for Multiple Resolutions and had to create a new 2.1 AVD, to my surprise rotation with this app works correctly as expected. So I then decided to try my app on the 2.1 AVD and it works perfectly. So, is this a Bug in a 2.0 AVD or is there something special I need to be doing for < 2.1 SDK versions? This is driving me crazy because no where did anyone mention this issue. Thanks in advance

  Hi, I have a regular, nested HTML unordered list of links, and I'd like to scrape it with PHP and convert it to an array. The original list looks something like this: <ul> <li><a href="http://someurl.com">First item</a> <ul> <li><a href="http://someotherurl.com/">Child of First Item</a></li> <li><a href="http://someotherurl.com/">Second Child of First Item</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="http://bogusurl.com">Second item</a></li> <li><a href="http://bogusurl.com">Third item</a></li> <li><a href="http://bogusurl.com">Fourth item</a></li> </ul> Any of the items can have children. (The actual screen scraping is not a problem, I can do that.) I'd like to turn this into a PHP array, of just the links, while keeping the hierarchical nature of the list. Any ideas? I've looked at using htmlsimpledom and phpQuery, which both use jQuery like syntax. But, I can't seem to get the syntax right. Thanks.

• Resizing screenshots/screen captures for inclusion in Beamer

  Sorry, this may or may not be a programming question directly, but I am trying to resize screenshots with Imagemagick and Gimp to include in a Beamer presentation, but it comes out even blurrier than the resizing done by LaTeX. For instance, in Beamer I might have a command to rescale the image \includegraphics[width=.5\textwidth]{fig.png}. Using something like \begin{frame} \message{width = \the\textwidth} \message{height = \the\textheight} \end{frame} I have gotten the \textwidth and \textheight parameters in points (345.69548, 261.92444). So I have a script (in Python) that sends a system call to Imagemagick: 'convert %s -resize %.6f@ resized_%s' % (f,a,f) where a is calculated as \textwidth*\textheight*0.5**2. When I then go back into my Beamer presentation and include the resized figure, \includegraphics{resized_fig.png}, the size looks approximately correct but it's super-blurry. I also tried resizing in Gimp (using the GUI) but no luck either... help? Thanks...

• Get coordinates of google maps markers

  I am creating a databse containing the names and coordinates of all bus stops in my local area. I have all the names stored in my database, and now I need to add the coordinates. I am trying to get these of a website that contains them all as placemarks on a google map. It seems to me like they are being generated from a local server, and then added to the map. However I am unable to find exactly where the server is queried for the coordinates. I am hoping to collect these coordinates through the use of a screen scraper. However unless I am able to find where in the source code the coordinates are created this seems to be impossible. I can of course search and collect all these placemarks manually, but that will be very time consuming. So I am hoping that someone in here can help me. This is the website I am trying to scrape. I've tried loading both http://localhost and http://localhost/myappname in both cases, all I am getting is a blank page, no errors. And although directory browsing is enabled, I can't even see a list of the files in that directory. Any ideas why this is? Thanks in advance...

  Is there a good guide or tutorial for people who need to programmatically interact with dynamic websites? There's been a rash of Perl questions about that lately, and I haven't found a good resource to point people toward. I'm asking not because I need one but because I don't want to waste my time writing it if it already exists. Although I'm most interested in Perl, the extra tools and techniques are mostly the same. Typically, I see see these problems in people's questions: Handling, setting, and saving cookies Finding and interacting with forms Handling JavaScript inside your user-agent especially things like onLoad, onSumbit, and Ajax Using HTTP sniffer tools Using Web developer plugins in interactive browsers Interacting with DOM, screen scraping, etc. If there's no good tutorial, I'll add it to my list of things to do (unless someone else wants to do it :). Along the way, if you don't have a suggestion for an existing tutorial, please suggest the things that you think should be in a new one, including links, your favorite tools, and your own user-agent development experiences. I don't care about the particular language you use.

• Problem with Xcode organizer screen capture

  I'm currently running Xcode 3.2.2 on Snow Leopard. When opening Organizer Screenshots I see a list of screenshots I did before. But when I click the Capture button, nothing's happening. I don't see any messages popping up or any errors from the Console tab. I also tried restoring the iPod Touch (2nd gen) but that didn't help. Any thoughts? Thanks!
