• List modification in Python

  We are given an algorithm to modify a list of numbers from 1 to 28. There are 5 steps in the algorithm. We have written functions for each step (all correct). We need to write a function that combines all 5 steps. The algorithm modifies the list to get a value. Each time you get a new value, you use the list created by the algorithm from the previous step. This is what we have gotten so far for the code: get_card_at_top_index(insert_top_to_bottom(triple_cut((move_joker_2( move_joker_1(deck)))))) When we run the code to generate the get_card_at_top_index, the first answer is correct. However, the rest are not. Instead of using from the new list, python uses the value that it generated from the last step. What did we do wrong? UPDATE: The other 5 codes passed the tests, they are correct. Code 1 (List) = list1 Code 2 (list1) = list2 Code 3 (list2) = list3 Code 4 (list3) = list4 Code 5 (list4) = list5 we generate a number from 5. We need to run the algorithm again to generate 25 more numbers. We will use list 5 start from step 1

• Android Bluetooth syncing

  I am connecting to a bluetooth enabled camera, and I am able to connect using the methods found in the BluetoothChat example. I need to send commands to the camera. The issue is that I also need to get a response BACK from the camera after I send the command in the first place. So basically I need to write a command and receive a response. However, the thing is that the commands sometimes don't generate a response. Even the documentation on the camera says that you "have to send the sync command as many as 25 times on power up before you will get a response." So I cannot just write a command and wait for a response, as the "read" function blocks the thread. If I have the read function in another thread, like the bluetooth chat example, there seems to be sync issues, i.e., if I issue a write command, how can I know that it is reading if that is happening in another thread? I did set a global variable to check for, but this seems "iffy" at best. So basically I need to write to the bluetooth and then attempt to read from it. However, I need to let that read timeout and if I haven't received a response, I need to write again until I get a response (or until it's tried a set number of times). I don't need the read function to be going all the time in the background. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your time.

  O.K, being a little new to this, I have hit a brick wall, I'm using AS3 in Flash CS5. All I want to do is have a tweened animation which stops at a frame and which has a clickable button to access another part of the maintime line. Also there will be a button on the animation to skip it. How does one set this up? Obviously you need a stop(); at the stop frame of the time line and an event listener and function for both buttons right? Any more help besides that.   I have a list of words in javascript similar to this: var words = ["mine", "minute", "mist", "mixed", "money", "monkey", "month", "moon", "morning", "mother", "motion", "mountain", "mouth", "move", "much", "muscle", "music", "nail", "name", "narrow", "nation", "natural", "near", "necessary", "neck", "need", "needle", "nerve", "net", "new", "news", "night"]; The words can be 1-25? letters long. I have a div id="words", with a set width of 700px (but I might change it from this). Using css/javascript/jquery, how can I make it: Order the words by number of letters Place the words inside the div tag, left to right, but so that there are no gaps at the right edge of the words div, and there is even spacing between words on a line. Each word should have a border around it and a background.   I'm using google blogger. I want to ad thumbnail images of different classes I will be offering in my home film/video/sound/lighting studio. The idea is the prospective student visits my website, sees a class they want to take, clicks the thumbnail so first read a descriptive article about the class, at which point they can schedule the class for the time, day, and date of their choosing between the hours of 5am to 9pm, 365 days a year. As soon as the student has inputed the time, day and date of the class they want, they would go to a check out page to purchase the class time. The student would then be sent an email confirmation along with the exact location, the class name, and the time and date they selected. I was thinking of using Dwolla for the check out page because Dwolla offers either no fee or 25 cents per payment transaction, but I'm not sure I can hook up to them easily enough. My blog site is not finished by a longshot. I still have to actually input all of the class thumbnail images along with descriptions, but if you need to see what the page looks like the web address is http://www.myalexlogic.com Google blogger allows for third party code to be added within movable gadgets.

  I am just getting started on this complex query I need to write and was hoping for any suggestions or feedback regarding table structure and the actual query itself.. I've already created my tables and populated test data, and now just trying to sort out how and what is possible within MySQL. Here is an outline of the problem: End result: Listing of rates based on specific queried criteria (see below): Age: [ 27 ] Spouse Age: [ 25 ] Num of Children: [ 3 ] Zip Code: [ 97128 ] The problem I am running into is each company that provides rates has a unique way of dealing with the rate. And I am looking for the best approach for multiple queries based on the company (one query with results for each company more or less all combined into one result set). Here are some facts: - Each company deals with zip code ranges which assist in the query result. - Each company has a different method of calculating the rate based on the Applicant, Spouse, Num of Children: Example, a) Company A determines rate by: Applicant + Spouse + Child(ren) = rate (age is pertinent to the applicant within a range). b) Company B determines the rate by total number of applicants like: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6+ = rate (and age is ignored). First off, what would I call this type of query? Multiple nested query? And should I intertwine php within it to determine the If()s ... I apologize if this thread lacks sufficient data, so please tell me anything you would like to see.

• Create a model that switches between two different states using Temporal Logic?

  Im trying to design a model that can manage different requests for different water sources. Platform : MAC OSX, using latest Python with TuLip module installed. For example, Definitions : Two water sources : w1 and w2 3 different requests : r1,r2,and r3 - Specifications : Water 1 (w1) is preferred, but w2 will be used if w1 unavailable. Water 2 is only used if w1 is depleted. r1 has the maximum priority. If all entities request simultaneously, r1's supply must not fall below 50%. - The water sources are not discrete but rather continuous, this will increase the difficulty of creating the model. I can do a crude discretization for the water levels but I prefer finding a model for the continuous state first. So how do I start doing that ? Some of my thoughts : Create a matrix W where w1,w2 ? W Create a matrix R where r1,r2,r3 ? R or leave all variables singular without putting them in a matrix I'm not an expert in coding so that's why I need help. Not sure what is the best way to start tackling this problem. I am only interested in the model, or a code sample of how can this be put together. edit Now imagine I do a crude discretization of the water sources to have w1=[0...4] and w2=[0...4] for 0, 25, 50, 75,100 percent respectively. == means implies Usage of water sources : if w1[0]==w2[4] -- meaning if water source 1 has 0%, then use 100% of water source 2 etc if w1[1]==w2[3] if w1[2]==w2[2] if w1[3]==w2[1] if w1[4]==w2[0] r1=r2=r3=[0,1] -- 0 means request OFF and 1 means request ON Now what model can be designed that will give each request 100% water depending on the values of w1 and w2 (w1 and w2 values are uncontrollable so cannot define specific value, but 0...4 is used for simplicity )

  i have to add clear screen option to my whiteboard application, usual procedure is to draw a fill rect to the sizeof the image.   I am using the jquery date picker found here: http://www.kelvinluck.com/assets/jquery/datePicker/v2/demo/datePickerStartEnd.html that allows the user to pick a start and end date. However I want to be able to disable specific dates. I tried to implement the code found here: stackoverflow.com/questions/501943/can-the-jquery-ui-datepicker-be-made-to-disable-saturdays-and-sundays-and-holida that discusses disabling national holidays. • How to set default view in OpenLayers, WITHOUT restricting bounds?

  Based on samples, I can see that you can set a default view in OpenLayers by saying something along the lines of: var bounds = new OpenLayers.Bounds(-125, 25, -65, 50); var map = new OpenLayers.Map('map', {restrictedExtent: bounds }); However, this also (as the name implies), restricts me to be able to ONLY navigate within these bounds. I can zoom out and see things outside of these bounds, but I can't then zoom back onto them, or scroll to them. I've tried not having any restrictedExtent (or making it the entire map), but then I can't get it to focus on the area I want. I tried using: map.setCenter(new OpenLayers.LonLat(0,0), 3); console.log(map.getCenter()); To set the zoom and the center...but it doesn't seem to do ANYTHING, other than set the variable "center" which I can then read from map.getCenter() (if I don't set it, it's null, if I do set it, I can see it...but the map itself stays fully extended and it's center doesn't seem to change at all...) The Map layer I am using is: OpenLayers.Layer.OSM.Mapnik with displayOutsideMaxExtent set to true... I'm really at a loss here. My goal is to have a default region of the world zoomed in to and in view (such as the United States), with the option of viewers being able to go outside the default to view things.

Ideally, I'd like to further limit the subsets so that, for each subset x of foobar, the sum of all f.bar in x (where f is a model of type Foo) is between some maximum and minimum value.   I have a grid of 30 buttons, and I want to have it from left to right then goes down, right to left, down again left to right. Basically the numbering would be as follow: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 20 19 18 17 16 15 14 13 12 11 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 So if I have a piece on the button 10 and I instruct it to move up 2 bits it would land on 12 not 19.   Hi, My codeigniter project is in live. I have two copies of it. One in the root and another in a subfolder. Both are configered to work normal. The root copy if the one which was made after testing in a subfolder. While running from the a subfolder all worked well. But when copied to the root folder the default controller is loading for all requests. But were as in subfolders and in other servers it is working well. It is like the following A true copy in root folder like sitename.com and another true copy in a subfolder like sitename.com/abc when requesting like this sitename.com/gallery the default controller is loaded instead of gallery controller. • Programmatically setup a PEAP connection in Windows Mobile

  I have been working on this for a few days and this is doing my head in: Our application is built using the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 and running on Windows Mobile 5 & 6 devices. We can set the WLAN connection of the device programmatically using the Wireless Zero Config functions (described here: msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms894771.aspx), most notably the WZCSetInterface function which we pinvoke from our application. This works fine for WEP and WPA-PSK connections. In a recent effort to add support for WPA2 networks we decided to modify the code. We have successfully added support for WPA2 which uses a certificate for the 802.1x authentication by setting the correct registry settings before calling WZCSetInterface. Now we want to do the same for WPA2 using PEAP (MS-CHAPv2) authentication. When manually creating such a connection in Windows Mobile the user will be prompted to enter the domain/user/password details. In our application we will have those details stored locally and want to do this all programmatically without any user intervention. So I thought going along the same route as the certificate authentication, setting the correct registry entries before calling WZCSetInterface. The registry settings we set are: \HKCU\Comm\EAP\Config\[ssid name] Enable8021x = 1 (DWORD) LastAuthSuccessful = 1 (DWORD) EapTypeId = 25 (DWORD) Identity = "domain\username" (string) Password = binary blob containing the password that is encrypted using the CryptProtectData function (described here: msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms938309.aspx) But when these settings are set and I call WZCSetInterface with the correct parameters, it still prompts me with the User Logon dialog asking for the domain/username/password. Has anyone got an idea what I need to do to prevent the password dialog from appearing and connect straight away with the settings stored in the registry?

• How to create a progress bar while downloading a file using the windows API?

  i'm working on an application in MS Visual C++ using Windows API that must download a file and place it in a folder. I have already implemented the download using URLDownloadToFile function, but i want to create a PROGRESS_CLASS progress bar with marquee style while the file is being downloaded, but it doesn't seems to get animated in the process. But it's not animated, and when I place the cursor over the bar, the cursor indicates that the program is busy downloading the file. When the download is complete, the window closes as i requested: SendMessage(components[7], WM_CLOSE, NULL, NULL); So the question is how can I make the bar move while downloading the file? Considering that i want it done with marquee style for simplicity. Thanks in advance.

• Quickly accessing files in a 'project'

  Hi all. I'm looking for a way to quickly open files in my project's source tree. What I've been doing so far is adding files to the file-name-cache like so: (file-cache-add-directory-recursively (concat project-root "some/sub/folder") ".*\\.\\(py\\)$") after which I can use anything-for-files to access any file in the source tree with about 4 keystrokes. Unfortunately, this solution started falling over today. I've added another folder to the cache and emacs has started running out of memory. What's weird is that this folder contains less than 25% of files I'm adding, and yet emacs memory use goes up from 20mb to 400mb on adding just this folder. The total number of files is around 2000, so this memory use seems very high. Presumably I'm abusing the file cache. Anyway, what do other people do for this? I like this solution for its simplicity and speed; I've looked at some of the many, many project management packages for emacs and none of them really grabbed me... Thanks in advance! Simon

• Linear Interpolation. How to implement this algorithm in C ? (Python version is given)

  There exists one very good linear interpolation method. It performs linear interpolation requiring at most one multiply per output sample. I found its description in a third edition of Understanding DSP by Lyons. This method involves a special hold buffer. Given a number of samples to be inserted between any two input samples, it produces output points using linear interpolation. Here, I have rewritten this algorithm using Python: temp1, temp2 = 0, 0 iL = 1.0 / L for i in x: hold = [i-temp1] * L temp1 = i for j in hold: temp2 += j y.append(temp2 *iL) where x contains input samples, L is a number of points to be inserted, y will contain output samples. My question is how to implement such algorithm in ANSI C in a most effective way, e.g. is it possible to avoid the second loop? NOTE: presented Python code is just to understand how this algorithm works. UPDATE: here is an example how it works in Python: x=[] y=[] hold=[] num_points=20 points_inbetween = 2 temp1,temp2=0,0 for i in range(num_points): x.append( sin(i*2.0*pi * 0.1) ) L = points_inbetween iL = 1.0/L for i in x: hold = [i-temp1] * L temp1 = i for j in hold: temp2 += j y.append(temp2 * iL) Let's say x=[.... 10, 20, 30 ....]. • Bizzare Java invalid Assignment Operator Error

• Sending Email to a specific address without requiring user to specify their mail server details

  Can anyone recommend a simple and reliable method of sending email notifications and possibly log files attachments from a C# program without requiring the installer or the user to configure the program by specifying server details and email addresses etc. (Mainly because they won't know the details, but also because they could change) The program will normally be run as a service of a Windows Server, but can be run on a client. I tried connecting to our own mail server and sending a email to myself, but some ISP's are blocking Port 25 on all servers but their own, so that method isn't working reliably. Tried sending email through gmail but that was less successful as the port they used was blocked by firewalls. Ditto webservices connecting on weird ports. Trying to use the local smptservice but did not work either. It would be nice, but not essential if it was not dependant on my own Internet connection/Servers. (Don't mind them being delayed, but prefer them not to get lost). Are there any webservices on http/https that allow you to do this sort of thing? TIA
