  • How do I force Windows 7 to recognize my Projector?

    I have a new Dell XPS with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 445M and an old (several years) Epson PowerLite Cinema 550 projector. Windows 7 refuses to recognize that the projector is connected under normal conditions (I'll get to the strange condition in a moment). Here are some things that I have already tried: Confirm that the projector continues to work well on my old Windows XP laptop. Confirm that the video cable (HDMI to HDMI) is connected Make sure the Dell laptop is plugged in to wall power at all times Reboot both the computer and the projector Click "Detect" under the "Connect to an External Display" Windows dialog (no reaction) Click "Rigorous Display Detection" under NVIDIA Control Panel (dialog: none found) Checked "Force Television Detection on startup" under "My display is not shown..." in NVIDIA Control Panel (no effect) Here's where it gets weird... My projector has three states: off, standby and on. Standby means the power switch on the back is on, but the projector is effectively off (no picture, no access to menu or controls). When I plug in the HDMI cable while the projector is in standby, Windows detects the projector! It lets me switch to Duplicate, Extend, or Project Only mode, and adjusts the resolution appropriately. A new Generic Plug-n-Play monitor shows up in my device manager. A "Seiko EPSON PJ" display shows up in my NVIDIA control panel. Then if I turn my projector on, Windows no longer recognizes the display. This is true whether I turn the projector on while the HDMI cable is plugged in, or if I unplug the HDMI cable while turning on the projector. Anyone have any ideas, because I'm completely stumped...?

I'm trying to delete old calendar items (I have a few years' worth) in Outlook and was wondering if there was a way to delete only non-recurring items as I need the recurring events for the future. I tried View Arrange by Current view Category and figured that I could manually check and delete any calendar items by hand. Is there a more efficient way to do this without having to actually script code? Thanks for your time!

  • Install Linux Mint on PC without bootable CD

    Unfortunately my PC's CD drive is not bootable; I have such a mixture of SATA and IDE drives, so until I have more money to redo my controller setup, I can't boot from any cd. Currently, I have a DVD burned with latest version of Linux Mint, and I have an USB drive with an old version of Mint. I have a partition ready to install Linx Mint into, but no idea how to install it, since I can only boot to my hard drive. I am totally unable to boot to CD, so that is definitely out. My main partition is WinXP Pro SP3. Is there software I can use to format my Linux partition, so that I can then just copy Mint over to that partition? Or is there a better way to install linux mint? I have to do it within Windows XP, since that's all that I can boot right now. I have considered Mint4Win, but that doesn't allow a full installation of Linux Mint. Any ideas?

  • Windows Question: RunOnce/Second Boot Issues

    I am attempting to create a Windows XP SP3 image that will run my application on Second Boot. Here is the intended workflow. 1) Run Image Prep Utility (I wrote) on windows to add my runonce entries and clean a few things up. 2) Reboot to ghost, make image file. 3) Package into my ISO and distribute. 4) System will be imaged by user. 5) On first boot, I have about 5 things that run, one of which includes a driver updater (I wrote) for my own specific devices. 6) One of the entries inside of HKCU/../runonce is a reg file, which adds another key to HKLM/../runonce. This is how second boot is acquired. 7) As a result of the driver updater, user is prompted to reboot. 8) My application is then launched from HKLM/../runonce on second boot. This workflow works perfectly, except for a select few legacy systems that contain devices that cause the add hardware wizard to pop up. When the add hardware wizard pops up is when I begin to see problems. It's important to note, that if I manually inspect the registry after the add hardware wizard pops up, it appears as I would expect, with all the first boot scripts having run, and it's sitting in a state I would correctly expect it to be in for a second boot scenario. The problem comes when I click next on the add hardware wizard, it seems to re-run the single entry I've added, and re-executes the runonce scripts. (only one script now as it's already executed and cleared out the initial entries). This causes my application to open as if it were a second boot, only when next is clicked on the add hardware wizard. If I click cancel, and reboot, then it also works as expected. I don't care as much about other solutions, because I could design a system that doesn't fully rely on Microsoft's registry. I simply can't find any information as to WHY this is happening. I believe this is some type of Microsoft issue that's presenting itself as a result of an overstretched image that's expected to support too many legacy platforms, but any help that can be provided would be appreciated.   • Why does Ubuntu 11.10 hang frequenty?

    I've been using Ubuntu from a long time and recently I have shifted to its newest version 11.10. Its interface is nice but my touch-pad hangs frequently in short intervals of time. When that happens, no key or key combination works. The only option is to restart or logout my laptop. I am using a Dell Inspiron N4010. I have tried a lot to solve this problem but haven't found any satisfactory help till now. Most of my friends who are using Ubuntu 11.10 reported the same to me, seems like it's a bug. How can I get out of this problem?

  • Excel hyperlink not redirecting properly (bug?)

    I don't know is this is the right place to post this questions, but I have an excel hyperlink problem. Here's the thing. I click on let's say "A1", copy the link in it (http://www.godaddy.com/domains/searchresults.aspx?ci=54814), right click on hyperlink and copy that SAME URL as the link (if it is not automatically detected and changed). When I go to click on it, I am readirected to http://www.godaddy.com/domains/search.aspx?ci=53972. If I copy and paste the link directly into the browser, it works fine.   • Setting Ubuntu Global PATH for Ruby Enterprise Edition

    Context: I recently installed Ruby Enterprise Edition (REE) on an Ubuntu 8.04 server. I would like for this new version of Ruby to globally supersede (for all users, crontabs, etc) the older version in /usr/local/bin. Attempted Solution #1: The REE documentation recommends placing the REE bin folder at the beginning of the global PATH in /etc/environment. I altered the PATH line in this file to read: PATH="/opt/ruby_ee/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games" This did affect my PATH at all. Attempted Solution #2: Next I followed these instructions and updated the PATH setting in the /etc/login.defs and /etc/crontab files. (I did not change /etc/sudoers.) This didn't affect my PATH either, even after logging out and rebooting the server. Other information: I seem to be having the same problem described here. I'm testing using the command: echo $PATH My shell is bash. My .bashrc doesn't not alter my PATH. I'm ssh'ed into the system for all testing. /opt/ruby_ee/ is a sym-link to /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.7-2011.03/

    I have a domain that i bought from DynDNS. I pointed the domain at my ip adress so i can run servers. The problem I have is that I don't live near the server computer... Can I use an ssh tunnel? As I understand it, this will let me access to my servers. I want the remote computer to direct traffic from port 8080 over the ssh tunnel to the ssh client, being my laptop's port 80. Is this possible?     Here's what i'm wanting to do. I have a Acer Iconia A500 tablet. I want to plug it in, in the car, but it has a barrel plug and I don't want to buy an inverter. The car adapters are expensive for what they do. But since it's just a cable... wasn't sure if that really made a whole lot of difference since it's only 1.5 amps from the wall charger. Is it possible to use that usb cable through the powerbolt car charger, to charge the A500?

    I've installed the drivers from nVidia. When I go into the NVIDIA X Server Settings application, in the X Server Display Configuration setcion, and click the "Configure" button, "TwinView" is disabled. Also, clicking "Detect Displays" doesn't pick up my monitor (which is connected through a port replicator - keyboard and mouse in that port replicator work fine). Has anyone else seen this? Is this just a limitation of the current nvidia linux drivers?

  • Changing privilege rights on Arch Linux for a particular program

    I am quite new to linux and have had issues surrounding every program that I install. Basically, anything that is placed outside of my home directory requires a sudo call prior to opening/executing. I cannot write to files, open usb devices, or run programs that exist outside of this directory (specifically, above this directory). I know this is a privilege problem, but I come here to ask how this can be permanently stopped. How can I configure things such that when programs are installed I do not have to manually find the executable and change its privilege requirements?

  • Cannot install Office 2003 Professional on a machine which formerly had 2003 Basic

    Hi to all, I have a problem with one of our PCs. I've inherited this PC and it's always had MS Office basic on it; the time has come to install our Access application on it, so I'm trying to install Office Professional 2003, the problem I have is the installer says the license key is invalid; I can only assume this is down to the fact that the PC used to have Office Basic installed. I've deleted the registration keys for the OFFICE11 section of the registry, but am still getting the problem... Any suggestions as to how to kill any trace of the old install would be appreciated - its' no longer showing up in the add/remove programs window.
