• Login loop in Snow Leopard

  I can't get out of a login loop of a particular admin user. After entering the password the login screen is shown again after about a minute. Other users work fine. It started happening after a simple reboot. Can you please help me? Thank you! Tried to no avail: Change the password Remove the password Repair disk (no errors) Boot in safe mode Reinstall Snow Leopard and updating to 10.6.6 Remove content of ~/Library/Caches Removed content of ~/Library/Preferences Replaced /etc/authorization with Install DVD copy The system.log mentions a crash report.   Hi I bought kewyboard and mouse from Logitech. The model is MK300. I wanna run 64-bits Windows 7 with this. When I connect the USB-receiver, Windows is trying to install it but gives me the error message: "no driver found". I tried to download SetPoint 4.80, but that didn't help. I have rebooted the computer several of times, tried different USB'ports, and have allso tried menye different mouses from Logitech. Non of this works. Have someone any suggestions for how I can fix my problem?

• Acer Aspire ASE700-UQ660A will not respond to power button

  This is something of a continuation of this question. I am now completely unable to boot this computer. The last time I used it, I used hibernation mode. When I needed to use it again, it would not respond at all to the power button, keyboard, or mouse. I tried: Holding down the power button for 15 seconds pressing the power button Unplugging the power cord for 30 seconds, plugging it back in, and trying again Removing the motherboard battery for over a minute and reinstalling it Before removing the motherboard battery, none of the lights on the front of the computer lit up. After reinstalling the battery and plugging the power cord back in, the light behind the power button is constantly illuminated (without even pressing the power button), but there is still no response to the power button, no fans turned on, nothing else that would indicate that it is running.   I am using Excel 2010. I got a sheet name "March" I would like to duplicate it (with reference / link) to another sheet called "Summary" which included January, Feb, and March. In the summary tab I would add another column called "Month" and will duplicate the value "March" or their tab month. I did some research on it, they said copy and paste special with link, but I can't find it. I need to reference the whole table, just in case any change add / remove the row of the table, the summary still will update it. Is there any solution with this? Thanks!

  I'll be receiving a new notebook in a few days and was planning on running Ubuntu on it as it's compatible and the notebook has no OS pre-installed. The specifications are: Core 2 Duo, T6600, 4 GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics. I know a year or two ago, running a 64-bit version of Ubuntu was not advised due to much of the applications and plugins (e.g. Flash) only running on 32-bit. Is this still the case? Would I get better performance with 64-bit Ubuntu since I have 4 GB of RAM? Are there any downsides anymore?

• How do I make Chrome's Omnibar behave more like the Firefox Awesome bar?

  One of my favorite features of the Firefox awesome bar is that I can simply type a substring of any URL or page title in my history and it finds all matches sorted by how frequently they were accessed. Example: I simply type "ask" when I want to ask something on stackoverflow.com., "inbox" goes to my GMail Inbox and so on because the substring matches any part of the URL or the page title. Chrome's Omnibar is quite frustrating in this area. I am not able to predict what it's gonna fetch and I seem to have no way to train the thing to do my bidding. I have turned unchecked the option that says: "Use a suggestion service to help complete searches and URLs typed..." but there has been no noticeable improvement. Any clues how I can make the Omnibar behave?

  Hi we have an mp4 file on our web server in a virtual directory When we try to access the file we get prompted for a username/password. When I tried to change the path of the virtual directory I got the message 'The following child nodes also define the value of the "UNCPassword" property, which overrides the value you have just set ...' which included the mp4 file that we try to access. How can I remove the UNC Password securing the file? The file is not on a shared drive its on the same drive as the web site root. The funny thing is the path of the virtual directory is not a UNC path it's a full path on the same server d:.....

Although the website claims it works up to XP, Google says that many users running 7 have had it work successfully. I have UAC disabled, yet still: Does anyone know why this is happening? • Macbook Pro suddenly lagging video playback + Flash sites

  I have a Macbook Pro, OSx Lion, Intel Core2 Duo, 4GB Ram, NVidia Geforce 8600M GT 128 MB Ram, Intel x25m SSD. Approximately 4 years old. I've been running Flash sites and playing videos without any problems for years. Then suddenly 3 months ago, a flash site like http://thefwa.com is lagging in all browsers. Even mouseover animations - anything. Also video playback in e.g VLC and Quicktime is now lagging. Same videos I used before, I tried installing an older version of VLC without any luck. Playing back video in VLC utilizes the CPU almost 100%, and Flash sites like thefwa.com easily takes up 50-60%. It's as if the hardware acceleration stopped working, or the GPU lost its magic. UPDATE: Same issues also occurred on Snow Leopard Has anyone experienced something similar, or do you know what might be wrong?

  I use Reliance Netconnect+ in my Toshiba Satellite laptop. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate. I've seen speeds up to 1500 kbps when travelling and have an average speed of 400 kbps at my room premises. I'm sorry, I've never felt that much speed while browsing or downloading. Sometimes I think some other programs are also sharing the same network. It is just showing 200 or 500 kbps but I feel 25 or 50 kbps. Is there any way to prevent them? I use Google Chrome downloaded from Google site. Please suggest me some solutions.

• XBMC: Viewing podcasts in 'Library Mode'

  I'm having a great time getting to know XBMC, and so far for the most part I've been really happy with the results. I was chuffed when I followed the advice on this SU post and added TWiT as a video podcast with ease. However, when I go into Library Mode I can no longer access the podcasts I've added. I realise that one simple work-around is to come out of Library Mode to view podcasts, but in order to keep everything as simple (and appealing) to my wife as possible I'd rather remain in Library Mode so that on the rare occasion she wants to watch a DVD, she can do so without my help. Does anyone know a way to display podcasts in library mode? If this isn't possible is there a more elegant solution/work-around to going back and forth between library mode? Many thanks.

• Google Chrome mouse wheel takes keyboard focus

  I recently switched the default browser on all my machines from Firefox to Google Chrome. In general I’m loving Chrome but there is one behaviour that is driving me nuts. Scrolling with the mouse wheel takes keyboard focus away from the document. Here’s what happens. I’ve just opened a page or switched to a new tab and the page has keyboard focus as I can use the keyboard up/down and PgUp/PgDn keys to scroll it; no problem there. But if I then use the wheel on my mouse to scroll the page, it loses the keyboard focus and no longer responds to up/down, PgUp/PgDn, or in fact any other keyboard keys. I have to click on the page background to restore the keyboard focus. This is a minor inconvenience for scrolling but where it really drives me nuts is in Google Reader and Gmail where I use keyboard shortcuts a lot. Here I find that I scroll the article or e-mail I’m reading with the mouse wheel then get no response when I press j/k to move to the next or previous article or e-mail. I am using Windows 7 and the Chrome dev channel (version 4.0.249.43).

• On a dual-GPU laptop, is using the discrete GPU ever more power efficient?

  Given a laptop with a dual integrated/discrete GPU configuration, is it ever more power efficient to use the discrete GPU instead of the integrated? Obviously when writing an email or working on a spreadsheet, the integrated GPU will always use less power. But let's say you're doing something graphics-medium but not graphics-intensive/heavy - is there a point where it actually makes sense to fire up the discrete GPU, not for performance but for power-saving reasons? Off the top of my head, I can think of a scenario where the external GPU supports hardware decoding of a particular video codec - I'd imagine there is a "price point" where using the GPU saves more energy than decoding that fully in software would. But I think most GPUs, integrated or discrete, pretty much decode just the plain-Jane h264. But maybe there is something more complicated, perhaps if you're doing something like desktop/windowing animations or a flash animation on a website (not an embedded flash video) - maybe the discrete GPU will use enough less power to make up for switching to it? I guess this question can be summed up as to whether or not you can say beyond doubt that if you don't care for performance on a laptop with two GPUs, always use the integrated GPU for maximum battery life.

  Windows "ipconfig" command can only show me the parameters from the ethernet interfaces from my machine(even with the "ipconfig /all" argument), it can show detailed information about the interface, but will never show me my external IP address over a NAT network. However, there are several websites, such as "What is my IP" that can get and show my external IP addres. So I'm wondering, if is possible to get this value externally, should I expect that there is some way to get this information from a command line at my local machine... I need to get this value to log on an application that I'm doing with VB Script. There is some way to do this, from a "cmd" on Windows?

• Openpgp does not work in my Thunderbird-Installation

  Hello community, as mentioned above - i encountered serious troubles. here are the versions of the related software: SuSE 11.2, Thunderbird v.3.1.6, released October 27, 2010, Firefox 3.6 v3.6.12 I created an installations with an own partition both for the user and for the TB-Mails. For a new installation on another hardware i took these partitions. When i wanted to read the emails, i got an error-message like this: The GPG-agent for your GnuPG-version 2.0.12 couldn´t get started Further i got an error message for the access on services of enigmail. The file jar:file:///usr/lib/mozilla/extensions/{3550f703-e582-4d05-9a08-453d09bdfdc6}/{847b3a00-7ab1-11d4-8f02-006008948af5}/chrome/enigmail.jar!/locale/de-DE/enigmail/help/initError.html couldn´t get found. I found out, that this path doesn´t come from TB nor from firefox, but from enigmail. I installed several (un-)pack-programs. the only effect was, that in the menu of TB the entry for OpenPGP appeared in the TB-Menu. The errors as described above repeat at every try to read an email. I deleted and re-installed enigmail, but the errors dont´t disappear. What can i do to get rid these error-messages ? Thanks in advance

• need major webcam help for project!!

  hey guys i have a porject where i have to be able to view my webcam on my mobile phone, which happens to be a blackberry bold 9700 but can also get a hold of an i pod touch so either phone is ok to use. the problem that i have is that everytime i do a search for help on this i end up with a program which enevitably asks for money and this is not allowd in the project, ive been trying to stream using vlc player and viewing it on the opera mini for blackberry but no such luck so far, any help would be great thanks a lot
