• Headless HTML rendering to image on CentOS 5.4

  Hello, I have a project requirement to render HTML and capture the rendered image as a file on a headless CentOS 5.4 server. My specific requirements are: 1) Input will be a URL to the page to render, output will be an image file containing the rendered image of the page 2) CSS must be supported by the renderer up to CSS level-1 3) Static images in the page must be displayed properly in the rendered image, including any transparent color in .GIF files 4) Must be able to run on a headless CentOS 5.4 server. 5) Solution must not depend on any product or component that is not free for commercial use I do not need to do anything with the page other than get the screen capture and save it to an image. The hard part seems to be doing this in a headless environment. Some of the solutions that I've seen discussed need a display in order to work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Jim

• A design for watching IPTV anywhere in the house?

  I'm currently getting TV and internet via IP to my house. The service comes into an ISP-supplied Router (ST585) which is in turn connected to an IPTV box. I need to replace the router, as it's port forwarding seems to be broken, so I was thinking of getting a box with an IGMP proxy. I once mistakenly got a non-IGMP box, with the result that the internet worked, but the IPTV didn't. The trouble is, I have no idea how to set up the IPTV part of the installation. I do have a copy of the ST585 configuration, but it doesn't look anything like the Cisco stuff that I learned about at CCNA. What are the steps necessary to reproduce the IGMP setup? I was thinking of WireSharking the communications on the network, but I suppose I'd need a hub for that? As a bonus, since the packets are coming in with the TV signal, is it possible to mess with the IGMP setup so I can watch TV anywhere in the house?

For example, User: uid=testadmin, ou=people, dc=my,dc=net Should have access to create new users/delete users under ou=People,dc=my,dc=net I tried with below ACI but did not work (target = "ldap:///ou=People,dc=my,dc=net")(targetattr = "*") (version 3.0;acl "testadmin Permissions";allow (proxy)(userdn = "ldap:///uid=testadmin,ou=people,dc=my,dc=net");) I am able to add administrative users from the Directory Server console, but this user data is not stored in ldif files and only stored in binary database at /var/lib/dirsrv/slap-ldap/db/. Only problem is these users have full power and I am not sure how to restrict their access.

• Will VC++ MFC become obsolete in near future?

  Normally people say MFC is little clumsy. It makes UI development slightly difficult to maintain since it has lot of auto generated code. It has good architecture (doc/view) but is not transparent like Win32 programming to understand how window program works in the background. So with this situation, is it good to extend the exposure on MFC programming or better to switch to .NET since for faster UI design with ease in maintenance. Is it good to continue as MFC developer or good to know .NET as well? How globally companies are looking into MFC as a technology for UI developments. Are they comfortable in supporting their developers to continue with MFC or looking for changing their development technology.

• Intercept windows open file

  Hello, I'm trying to make a small program that could intercept the open process of a file. The purpose is when an user double-click on a file in a given folder, windows would inform to the software, then it process that petition and return windows the data of the file. Maybe there would be another solution like monitoring Open messages and force Windows to wait while the program prepare the contents of the file. One application of this concept, could be to manage desencryption of a file in a transparent way to the user. In this context, the encrypted file would be on the disk and when the user open it ( with double-click on it or with some application such as notepad ), the background process would intercept that open event, desencrypt the file and give the contents of that file to the asking application. It's a little bit strange concept, it could be like "Man In The Middle" network concept, but with files instead of network packets. Thanks for reading.

  BACKGROUND-IMAGE: url(../images/feedback_trans_tab.png); _background-image: url(../images/feedback_tab_ie6.png) I've seen code like this in a css file feedback_tab_ie6.png is 886 bytes and feedback_trans_tab.png has 1.64Kb Both pics have transparent backgrounds so that you can apply your own background color. Both look the same. yet in IE6 if I comment this line: _background-image: url(../images/feedback_tab_ie6.png) this appears: and if I don't this appears: DOes anyone have any idea why this is? • iPhone: Add background button to view when UITableView has no cells

  I have a UITableViewController, when there is no data to populate the UITableView, I want to add a button, which uses an image. So, rather than the user seeing a tableview with no records, they will see an image that says, "No records have been added, Tap to add one", then they click and we create a new one. I assumed I would just hide the UITableView, then create the button, but I never see the button. • Google Chrome can't load too many tabs together!

  This is an annoying problem that I face and friends of mine agree to this too. When using a site like Digg I tend to browse the page and open a lot of tabs simultaneously before reading each tab individually. Now what happens is, when there are 4-5 or more tabs loading up, all of them just stop loading.I can still see that annoying circle rotating (which means it is trying to load) but nothing happens. I have to stop the load and then refresh one tab at a time to see these pages. I never faced these problems on firefox or opera. What can the possible reasons for this be and how do I overcome this issue ? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and my Chrome Version is 5.0.375.55. PS: I use the internet from behind a proxy server at my college. I wonder if that could cause these problems. My friends in college also face the same problem.

  I have an apache sitting in front of two tomcat app servers(one on the same physical server, the other on a different one) that does time consuming work(0.5 sec to 10sec per request). The apache http server is getting killed by an average of 1 to 2 concurrent requests per second. both Server spec is about 2GB of RAM. Is there a way to optimize apache to handle the load? any advise is welcome. • Is OpenGL required for my iPhone game?

  On an iPhone: If I am writing a game that has multiple levels, with multiple animations (image sequences), jpg and png (transparent), some full screen and some not, some looped and some played once only. What is the best way of doing it? Each level might have up to 10MB of images. Add on to this music, and video (cut scenes). All 2D graphics, no 3D models. Is OpenGL required? Or can this be achieved with Quartz or Core Animation?

• Weird Behavior with Jquery image slideshow... Help!

  I built a jquery slideshow based on the tutorial found here: http://www.queness.com/post/152/simple-jquery-image-slide-show-with-semi-transparent-caption It seems to be working perfectly fine, except that it behaves strangley right at the beginning when it displays the first image. The first image appears like normal and then flashes, fades to white and disappears completely. After that, the first slide reappears and behaves normally, transitioning to the next image. The slideshow in question is center page on the right: http://www.loftist.com/ I am not a JS developer, so I am not sure how to troubleshoot this problem. • How can I send a Wake on Wireless LAN (WoWLAN) / Wake on Demand request manually?

The question is, how do I do whatever the AirPort Basestation will do? All I can find so far is that supposedly I need to send something with Wireless Multimedia Extensions (WMM): Basically, I want to be able to wake up my Mac Mini remotely, probably using my Linux laptop. Does anyone know of a tool to do this? Basic Wake on LAN tools do not seem to be the right thing. I don't need the Sleep Proxy Service bit, because I already know the MAC address of the system I want to wake up.

• Using an image as a border

  I am working on an custom container and I need a border for this container. I have a 15x15 image that I am creating a 9-slice border skin with. The issue that I am having is that the border skin does not appear the way that I had hoped it would. Here is a ss of the skin in place. • Can ping localhost but can't browse

  I know this is a pretty common question but I did my research and couldn't find a solution for this issue. I'm configuring a development application server and I came to the point where I can ping both localhost and 127.0.0.1, but I cannot browse either of them from IE or Firefox. I can browse and ping other websites (such as google) just fine. I tried flushing the dns (ipconfig /flushdns), restarting the IIS Admin service, restarting IIS itself, etc, and nothing seems to work. The results from ipconfig /all shows IP Rounting Enabled = No and WINS Proxy Enabled = No. Hwat is intriguing to me is that I compared everything in IIS in the dev environment with the production environment and the settings are the same, but I can browse localhost in production, but not in dev! What could be causing the inability to browse localhost and 127.0.0.1 from IE and Firefox?

• Shift browser contents to the left while viewing in wide screen

  I use a widescreen laptop. Many websites have their content centre aligned. On wider screens this means lot of empty space on left and right. As such this is not a botheration. Many a times, I read some instructions on the web page and type them out on the command prompt. I prefer to overlay the command prompt window on top of the browser and if the browser contents are left aligned (or right aligned), then I need not Alt-tab across these windows. I use Firefox on Ubuntu. I use the command line (konsole) heavily. I know compiz (and similar) tools provides transparent windows so that the content beneath is visible. But I don't want to install compiz or its equivalent because my graphics driver is not all that good. Any addon or simple trick that would shift the page content to the left (or right) would be very helpful (read productive).

• Styling a list as tabs with a background overflowing into content

  I couldn't think of any better way to name this question, but I'll explain. I have a mediawiki website with a background pattern (like parchment) behind the articles. At the top of each article I want to have tabs like wikipedia does (with page | talk | edit etc links). The problem is, the tabs should seamlessly fit with the article's background and I can't figure out if this is actually possible. The way I was trying to do it was positioning the list inside the actual content div and give the <li items a transparent background, but as far as I can see there's no way to color the rest of the <ul's background black without affecting the <li's in there. • Best way to export an icon from photoshop?

  Hi, I'm writing a program to notify me of new email. It's mostly complete, I'm just working on the notifyicon code now. It's supposed to display the usual application icon with a box containing the count of unread emails inside it. I created icons for this in photoshop, exported them as 16x16 transparent PNGs, then converted them into windows ico files using ConvertIcon.com. Given that the image was 16x16 and the WinXP system tray uses 16x16 icons, I would assume the images would work.
