  • @property, setter and getter question?

    - by fuzzygoat
    NSString *statusValue; NSString *currentValue; @property(retain, nonatomic) NSString *statusValue; @property(retain, nonatomic) NSString *currentValue; @synthesize statusValue; @sythnesize currentValue; Given the above, if I am setting one variable to another is it work doing ... [self setStatusValue: currentValue]; or should I use the property again and use [self setStatusValue: [self currentValue]]; I suppose the latter (although maybe overkill) does tell the reader that we are using one of the objects instance variables and not some local variable. just curious really ... gary

  • Best practice with respect to NPE and multiple expressions on single line

    - by JRL
    I'm wondering if it is an accepted practice or not to avoid multiple calls on the same line with respect to possible NPEs, and if so in what circumstances. For example: getThis().doThat(); vs Object o = getThis(); o.doThat(); The latter is more verbose, but if there is an NPE, you immediately know what is null. However, it also requires creating a name for the variable and more import statements. So my questions around this are: Is this problem something worth designing around? Is it better to go for the first or second possibility? Is the creation of a variable name something that would have an effect performance-wise? Is there a proposal to change the exception message to be able to determine what object is null in future versions of Java ?

  • Java regex replace multiple file paths in a large String

    - by Joe Goble
    So a Regex pro I am not, and I'm looking for a good way to do this. I have a large string which contains a variable number <img> tags. I need to change the path on all of these images to images/. The large string also contains other stuff not just these img's. <img src='http://server.com/stuff1/img1.jpg' /> <img src='http://server.com/stuff2/img2.png' /> Replacing the server name with a ReplaceAll() I could do, it's the variable path in the middle I'm clueless on how to include. It doesn't necessarily need to be a regex, but looping through the entire string just seems wasteful.

  • Use javascript variables in Rails view helpers

    - by Horacio
    Using jqGrid I want to generate delete links for each row in the grid. The standard way to do this is to add the links in the gridComplete callback like shown below: gridComplete: function() { var ids = jQuery("#jobs_table").jqGrid('getDataIDs'); for(var i=0;i < ids.length;i++){ var cl = ids[i]; be = '<%= link_to(image_tag("delete.gif", :border=>0, :size=>"20x22", :alt => "delete"),· { :action => 'destroy', :id => 'cl', :method => :delete}, :class => 'ajax') -%>'; jQuery("#jobs_table").jqGrid('setRowData',ids[i],{workflow_state:be}); } }, Using getDataIDs I get a list of IDs that I can use to generate the delete links. The problem is that this is a javascript call that results in a javascript variable. The question is how can I use this variable "cl" inside rails link_to view helper?

  • Python module seeing a full list as empty in another module

    - by Nick
    I'm working on a pygame project and have the main engine layed out. The problem is I hit a bug that I just can not seem to figure out. What happens is one module can't read a variable from another module. It's not that the variable can't be read, it just sees an empty list instead of what it really is. Instead of posting the entire source code I reproduced the bug in two small snippets that hopefully a skillful python-ist can interpret in his\her head. Code: main.py (This is the file that gets run) import screen screens = [] #A stack for all the game screens def current_screen(): #return a reference to the current screen return screens[-1] def play(): print'play called' current_screen().update() if __name__=='__main__': screens.append(screen.Screen()) play() screen.py import main class Screen: def __init__(self): print'screen made' def update(self): print main.screens #Should have a reference to itself in there Thanks!

  • The C++ 'new' keyword and C

    - by Florian
    In a C header file of a library I'm using one of the variables is named 'new'. Unfortunately, I'm using this library in a C++ project and the occurence of 'new' as a variable names freaks out the compiler. I'm already using extern "C" { #include<... }, but that doesn't seem to help in this respect. Do I have to aks the library developer to change the name of that variable even though from his perspective, as a C developer, the code is absolutely fine, as 'new' is not a C keyword?

  • Facebook writing on a wall problem - retrieves only null value.

    - by Viral
    hi all friends, I am making a game application in that I want to pass my score on wall of face book. I've completed all the things (the log in and message passing part) but when I passes the score via global variable, I am getting only null as a value and not the score that I want. Is there any way to pass data or string to Face book and write on a wall? My code is (void)viewDidLoad { static NSString* kApiKey = @"be60415be308e2b44c0ac1db83fe486b"; static NSString* kApiSecret = @"4f880c7e100321f808c41b1d3c813dfa"; _session = [[FBSession sessionForApplication:kApiKey secret:kApiSecret delegate:self] retain]; score = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@",appDelegate.myTextView]; [_session resume]; [super viewDidLoad]; } whre score is NSString and myTextView is NSString in other viewcontrollerfile, And appDelegate is global variable. Any help?? thanks in advance.

  • Difficulty creating a paging function with MySQL and ColdFusion

    - by Mel
    I'm trying to create pagination for search results using MySQL and ColdFusion. My intention is to only retrieve the queries that can be displayed on a single page, thus making the process efficient. I tried using two queries in my function, but I could not return two variables to the cfinvoke. The following code does not paginate, but it displays the result search results using a CFC: <!---DEFINE DEFAULT STATE---> <cfparam name="variables.searchResponse" default=""> <cfparam name="URL.titleName" default=""> <cfparam name="URL.genreID" default=""> <cfparam name="URL.platformID" default=""> <!---TitleName can only be blank if one or both genre and platform are selected---> <cfif StructKeyExists(URL, "searchQuery") AND (Len(Trim(URL.titleName)) LTE 2 AND Len(URL.genreID) IS 0 AND Len(URL.platformID) IS 0)> <cfset variables.searchResponse = "invalidString"> <cfelseif StructKeyExists(URL, "searchQuery")> <cfinvoke component="gz.cfcomp.test" method="searchGames" returnvariable="resultData" argumentcollection="#URL#"> <cfset variables.searchResponse = "hasResult"> </cfif> <cfif searchResponse EQ "hasResult" AND resultData.RecordCount EQ 0> <cfset variables.searchResponse = "noResult"> </cfif> Using this logic, I can display what I need to display on the page: <cfif searchResponse EQ "invalidString"> <cfoutput>Invalid search</cfoutput> </cfif> <cfif searchResponse EQ "noResult"> <cfoutput>No results found</cfoutput> </cfif> <cfif searchResponse EQ "hasResult"> <cfoutput>Display Results</cfoutput> </cfif> If I were executing the queries on the same page, it would be easy to follow the many tutorials out there. But the queries are executing in a function. Displaying the data is easy, but paginating it has become a nightmare for me. Here is my function: <cffunction name="searchGames" access="public" output="false"> <cfargument name="titleName" required="no" type="string"> <cfargument name="genreID" required="no" type="string"> <cfargument name="platformID" required="no" type="string"> <!--- DEFINE LOCAL VARIABLES---> <cfset var resultData = ""> <!---GET DATA---> <cfquery name="resultData" datasource="myDSN"> SELECT * <!---JOINS FOR GENRE/PLATFORM GO HERE---> WHERE <!---CONDITIONS GO HERE---> </cfquery> <!---RETURN VARIABLE---> <cfreturn resultData> </cffunction> To paginate, I thought about modifying my function to the following (a new query using a count statement): <!--- DEFINE LOCAL VARIABLES---> <cfset var resultCount = ""> <!---GET DATA---> <cfquery name="resultCount" datasource="myDSN"> SELECT COUNT(gameID) AS rowsFound FROM GAMES <!---JOINS FOR GENRE/PLATFORM GO HERE---> WHERE <!---CONDITIONS GO HERE---> </cfquery> <!---RETURN VARIABLE---> <cfreturn resultCount> Then I figured if there is a result to return, I would execute a nested query and create the pagination variables: <cfif resultCount.rowsFound GTE 0> <cfparam name="pageNumber" default="1"> <cfset var recordsPerPage = 5> <cfset var numberOfPages = Int(resultCount.RecordCount / recordsPerPage)> <cfset var recordsToSkip = pageNumber * recordsPerPage - recordsPerPage> <!---DEFINE LOCAL VARIABLE---> <cfset var resultData = ""> <cfquery name="resultData" datasource="myDSN"> <!---GET DATA AND SEND IT BACK USING LIMIT WITH #recordsToSkip# and #RecordsPerPage#---> </cfquery> <!---RETURN VARIABLE---> <cfreturn resultData> </cffunction> I figured I would return two variables: resultCount and resultData. I would use #resultCount# to build my pagination, and #resultData# to display the output. The problem is I can't return two variables in the same cfinvoke tag. Any ideas of how to approach the the right way? I'm totally lost as to the logic I need to follow.

  • Best practice for string substition with gettext using Python

    - by Malcolm
    Looking for best practice advice on what string substitution technique to use when using gettext(). Or do all techniques apply equally? I can think of at least 3 string techniques: Classic "%" based formatting: "My name is %(name)s" % locals() .format() based formatting: "My name is {name}".format( locals() ) string.Template.safe_substitute() import string template = string.Template( "My name is ${name}" ) template.safe_substitute( locals() ) The advantage of the string.Template technique is that a translated string with with an incorrectly spelled variable reference can still yield a usable string value while the other techniques unconditionally raise an exception. The downside of the string.Template technique appears to be the inability for one to customize how a variable is formatted (padding, justification, width, etc).

  • overwrite a file which is already used by another process

    - by Ahmy
    I have a web site and i am showing videos to visitors, at the admin side i am filling the form of video and upload video file and sometimes i need to change(update) the video so i update the video by uploading another one, when i create the video in the first time i concatenate a datetime variable with the video name to avoid repeatition(file already exist) and when updatting the video the problem appears.... as if i upload the new video with the previous name so it will replace the previous one and in this case if the video is used by another process it will fail and the second option(which i am already using) is to upload a new video and concatenating new datetime variable with video title, so the previous and the new video will exist in the same directory and in this case i will lose too much space in my server directory as i have unused videos which takes space which in future will cause problem to me in the disk space so how can i solve this problem ? Hope that my question is clear....thanks in advance for any try

  • @@TRANCOUNT and a current connection

    - by AspOnMyNet
    Assume I connect to SQL server 2008 via SQL Server Management Studio ( SSMS ) and open new window W1 by clicking on New Query tab and write the following inside W1: BEGIN TRANSACTION; If I execute this statement 5 times, and then write (inside W1) SELECT @@TRANCOUNT; , then the value returned will be 5. But if I open another window W2 ( inside the same SSMS instance and thus on the same connection ) and write inside W2 SELECT @@TRANCOUNT; then value returned will be 0. @@TRANCOUNT variable returns the number of active transactions for the current connection. Both W1 and W2 windows were opened on the same connection, so shouldn’t ( according to the above quote ) in both W1 and W2 variable @@TRANCOUNT hold the same value? thanx

  • Problem while configuring the file Delimeter("\t") in app.config(C#3.0)

    - by Newbie
    In my app.config file I made the setting like the following <add key = "Delimeter" value ="\t"/> Now while accessing the above from the program by using the below code string delimeter = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["FileDelimeter"].ToString(); StreamWriter streamWriter = null; streamWriter = new StreamWriter(fs); streamWriter.BaseStream.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.End); Enumerable .Range(0, outData.Length) .ToList().ForEach(i => streamWriter.Write(outData[i].ToString() + delimiter)); streamWriter.WriteLine(); streamWriter.Flush(); I am getting the output as 18804\t20100326\t5.59975381254617\t 18804\t20100326\t1.82599797249479\t But if I directly use "\t" in the delimeter variable I am getting the correct output 18804 20100326 5.59975381254617 18804 20100326 1.82599797249479 I found that while I am specifying the "\t" in the config file, and while reading it into the delimeter variable, it is becoming "\\t" which is the problem. I even tried with but with no luck. I am using C#3.0. Need help

  • Passing variables to functions in Python

    - by brno792
    Im writing test scripts in python for selenium web testing. How do I pass parameters through a python function to call in a later function? I first have a login test function. Then I have a new user registration function. Im trying to pass the Username and Password I use in the registration function to the testLogin function that I call inside the testRegister function. This is my python code: userName = "admin" password = "admin" #pass username and password variables to this function def testLogin(userName,password): browser = webdriver.Firefox() browser.get("http://url/login") element = browser.find_element_by_name("userName") element.send_keys(userName) element = browser.find_element_by_name("userPassword") element.send_keys(password) element.send_keys(Keys.RETURN) browser.close() # test registration def testRegister(): browser = webdriver.Firefox() browser.get("http://url/register") #new username variable newUserName = "test" element = browser.find_element_by_name("regUser") element.send_keys(newUserName) #new password variable newUserPassword = "test" element = browser.find_element_by_name("regPassword") element.send_keys(newUserPassword) # #now test if user is registered, I want to call testLogin with the test user name and pw. testLogin(newUserName,newUserPassword) browser.close()

  • Why does PHP overwrite values when I iterate through this array twice (by reference, by value)

    - by jeremy
    If I iterate through an array twice, once by reference and then by value, PHP will overwrite the last value in the array if I use the same variable name for each loop. This is best illustrated through an example: $array = range(1,5); foreach($array as &$element) { $element *= 2; } print_r($array); foreach($array as $element) { } print_r($array); Output: Array ( [0] = 2 [1] = 4 [2] = 6 [3] = 8 [4] = 10 ) Array ( [0] = 2 [1] = 4 [2] = 6 [3] = 8 [4] = 8 ) Note that I am not looking for a fix, I am looking to understand why this is happening. Also note that it does not happen if the variable names in each loop are not each called $element, so I'm guessing it has to do with $element still being in scope and a reference after the end of the first loop.

  • possible bug in geom_ribbon

    i was hoping to plot two time series and shade the space between the series according to which series is larger at that time. here are the two series-- first in a data frame with an indicator for whichever series is larger at that time d1 <- read.csv("https://dl.dropbox.com/s/0txm3f70msd3nm6/ribbon%20data.csv?dl=1") And this is the melted series. d2 <- read.csv("https://dl.dropbox.com/s/6ohwmtkhpsutpig/melted%20ribbon%20data.csv?dl=1") which I plot... ggplot() + geom_line(data = d2, aes(x = time, y = value, group = variable, color = variable)) + geom_hline(yintercept = 0, linetype = 2) + geom_ribbon(data = d1[d1$big == "B",], aes(x = time, ymin = csa, ymax = csb), alpha = .25, fill = "#9999CC") + geom_ribbon(data = d1[d1$big == "A",], aes(x = time, ymin = csb, ymax = csa), alpha = .25, fill = "#CC6666") + scale_color_manual(values = c("#CC6666" , "#9999CC")) which results in... why is there a superfluous blue band in the middle of the plot?

  • Prevent Jcarousel from resetting to beginning position on page postback?

    - by lbholland
    I have a nice looking jarousel running from an asp:listview element, with asp:imagebuttons for the images. When clicked, the images in the carousel send the image id to querystring, and the new page is loaded with a larger version of the image and some asp:labels are filled in to describe the image. It looks and works great, except once the page reloads the jcarousel resets to original position, which is confusing to the user. What's the best way to prevent this? I tried using an UpdatePanel but couldn't figure out how to pass the querystring variable with the partial page update. I could pass the variable in a hidden field, but this wouldn't be very SEO friendly.

  • perl ENV value avoid escape

    In my makefile I have command in variable like this substitute := perl -p -e 's/@([^@]+)@/"$(update_url)"/ge' > output.txt update_url := em:updateURL=\"http:\/\/bla\/update.rdf\"\n this works fine when I run command in target and I have newline, quotes however I need to replace $(update_url)" with environment variable, using expression like this #substitute := perl -p -e 's/@([^@]+)@/defined $$ENV{$$1} ? $$ENV{$$1} : $$1/ge' I am exporting those variables from makefile. This gives me literally em:updateURL=\"http:\/\/bla\/update.rdf\"\n on output file... so how to make the second version to give output like first version?

  • Quick question regarding this issue, Why doesnt it print out the second value(converted second value

    - by sil3nt
    Quick question, What have I done wrong here. The purpose of this code is to get the input into a string, the input being "12 34", with a space in between the "12" and "32" and to convert and print the two separate numbers from an integer variable known as number. Why doesn't the second call to the function copyTemp, not produce the value 34?. I have an index_counter variable which keeps track of the string index and its meant to skip the 'space' character?? what have i done wrong? thanks. #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> int index_counter = 0; int number; void copyTemp(char *expr,char *temp); int main(){ char exprstn[80]; //as global? char tempstr[80]; gets(exprstn); copyTemp(exprstn,tempstr); printf("Expression: %s\n",exprstn); printf("Temporary: %s\n",tempstr); printf("number is: %d\n",number); copyTemp(exprstn,tempstr); //second call produces same output shouldnt it now produce 34 in the variable number? printf("Expression: %s\n",exprstn); printf("Temporary: %s\n",tempstr); printf("number is: %d\n",number); return 0; } void copyTemp(char *expr,char *temp){ int i; for(i = index_counter; expr[i] != '\0'; i++){ if (expr[i] == '0'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '1'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '2'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '3'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '4'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '5'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '6'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '7'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '8'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == '9'){ temp[i] = expr[i]; } if (expr[i] == ' '){ temp[i] = '\0'; sscanf(temp,"%d",&number); index_counter = i+1; //skips? } } // is this included here? temp[i] = '\0'; }

  • Intentionally get a "MySQL server has gone away" error

    - by Jonathan
    I'm trying to cope with MySQL's error MySQL server has gone away in a django env. The quick workaround was to set the global wait_timeout MySQL variable to a huge value, but in the long run this would accumulate to many open connections. I figured I'll get the wait_timeout variable and poll the server in smaller intervals. After implementing this I tried to test it but am failing to get the error. I set global wait_timeout=15 and even set global interactive_timeout=15 but the connection refuses to disappear. I'm sure I'm polling the database in larger intervals than 15sec. What could be the cause for not being able to recreate this error?

  • ASP.Net MVC null reference exception with TextArea name

    - by kingrichard2005
    Hello, I have a TextArea html helper method I'm calling in a foreach loop. Basically, when I initially load the View it works fine, but when i reload the View and load postback data, the same TextArea throws a NullReferencException and yet the variable I'm using in the TextArea as the name of the TextArea is not null. I've attached a picture below for demonstration: Sorry if it's difficult to see, the blue arrow below is pointing to the variable used to name the TextArea. Again, it works on initial load, but it errors out on postback when the page is reloaded. I'm not sure what's going on.

  • How to name variables wich are structs

    - by evilpie
    Hello, i often work on private projects using the WinApi, and as you might know, it has thousands of named and typedefed structs like MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION. I will stick to this one in my question, what still is preferred, or better when you want to name a variable of this type. Is there some kind of style guide for this case? For example if i need that variable for the VirtualQueryEx function. Some ideas: MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION memoryBasicInformation; MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION memory_basic_information; Just use the name of the struct non captialized and with or without the underlines. MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION basicInformation; MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION information; Short form? MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION mbi; I often see this style, using the abbreviation of the struct name. MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION buffer; VirtualQueryEx defines the third parameter lpBuffer (where you pass the pointer to the struct), so using this name might be an idea, too. Cheers

  • I asked this yesterday, after the input given I'm still having trouble implementing..

    - by Josh
    I'm not sure how to fix this or what I did wrong, but whenever I enter in a value it just closes out the run prompt. So, seems I do have a problem somewhere in my coding. Whenever I run the program and input a variable, it always returns the same answer.."The content at location 76 is 0." On that note, someone told me that "I don't know, but I suspect that Program A incorrectly has a fixed address being branched to on instructions 10 and 11." - mctylr but I'm not sure how to fix that.. I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate this idea from R Samuel Klatchko.. I'm still not sure what I'm missing but I can't get it to work.. const int OP_LOAD = 3; const int OP_STORE = 4; const int OP_ADD = 5; ... const int OP_LOCATION_MULTIPLIER = 100; mem[0] = OP_LOAD * OP_LOCATION_MULTIPLIER + ...; mem[1] = OP_ADD * OP_LOCATION_MULTIPLIER + ...; operand = memory[ j ] % OP_LOCATION_MULTIPLIER; operation = memory[ j ] / OP_LOCATION_MULTIPLIER; I'm new to programming, I'm not the best, so I'm going for simplicity. Also this is an SML program. Anyway, this IS a homework assignment and I'm wanting a good grade on this. So I was looking for input and making sure this program will do what I'm hoping they are looking for. Anyway, here are the instructions: Write SML (Simpletron Machine language) programs to accomplish each of the following task: A) Use a sentinel-controlled loop to read positive number s and compute and print their sum. Terminate input when a neg number is entered. B) Use a counter-controlled loop to read seven numbers, some positive and some negative, and compute + print the avg. C) Read a series of numbers, and determine and print the largest number. The first number read indicates how many numbers should be processed. Without further a due, here is my program. All together. int main() { const int READ = 10; const int WRITE = 11; const int LOAD = 20; const int STORE = 21; const int ADD = 30; const int SUBTRACT = 31; const int DIVIDE = 32; const int MULTIPLY = 33; const int BRANCH = 40; const int BRANCHNEG = 41; const int BRANCHZERO = 41; const int HALT = 43; int mem[100] = {0}; //Making it 100, since simpletron contains a 100 word mem. int operation; //taking the rest of these variables straight out of the book seeing as how they were italisized. int operand; int accum = 0; // the special register is starting at 0 int j; // This is for part a, it will take in positive variables in a sent-controlled loop and compute + print their sum. Variables from example in text. memory [0] = 1010; memory [01] = 2009; memory [02] = 3008; memory [03] = 2109; memory [04] = 1109; memory [05] = 4300; memory [06] = 1009; j = 0; //Makes the variable j start at 0. while ( true ) { operand = memory[ j ]%100; // Finds the op codes from the limit on the memory (100) operation = memory[ j ]/100; //using a switch loop to set up the loops for the cases switch ( operation ){ case 10: //reads a variable into a word from loc.
