  • Using a custom annotation on a Spring MVC controller method from an interceptor.

    I have a custom annotation with which I've annotated a method in my Controller alongside a @ReqestMapping. The goal is to use the values set in the custom annotation from a HandlerInterceptor to perform a task. I have the interceptor (HandlerInterceptorAdaptor) mapped and it executes. If I set a breakpoint in my concrete Interceptor I can inspect the HttpServletRequest, HttpServletResponse, and handler Objects. However, I cannot see how to 1, obtain the method which the request is trying to access 2, obtain the Annotations on that method and 3, of course, obtain the values set by the annotation. Can anyone point me to good documentation for this? Please and Thank You.

It works for me but when i do a return RedirectToAction("Create"); my other values are not restored because i am redirecting to Create view...   • In .NET MVC, is there an easy way to check if I'm on the home page?

    I need to take a particular action if a user logs in from the home page. In my LogOnModel, I have a hidden field: @Html.Hidden("returnUrl", Request.Url.AbsoluteUri) In my Controller, I need to check if that value is the Home page or not. In the example below, I'm checking to see if the user is on a particular page ("Account/ResetPassword"). Is there a way to check to see if they're on the home page without resorting to regular expressions? [HttpPost] public ActionResult LogOnInt(LogOnModel model) { if (model.returnUrl.Contains("/Account/ResetPassword")) { return Json(new { redirectToUrl = @Url.Action("Index","Home")}); } Any ideas?   • ASP.NET MVC - Where do you put your .js files if you dont want to store them in /Scripts?

    I have a number of .js files that I would like to be stored in the same directories as their views (they're specific to a view - its simply to keep the javascript separate from the view's HTML) However, adding them to the /Views/ControllerName/ directory wont work because when a request is made to the webserver for the .js file: <script type="text/javascript" src="/Views/ControllerName/myscript.js"></script> It would essentially be directed at the 'Views' controller which obviously doesnt exist.   • Spring MVC: Where to place validation and how to validation entity references.

    Let's say I have the following command bean for creating a user: public class CreateUserCommand { private String userName; private String email; private Integer occupationId; pirvate Integer countryId; } occupationId and countryId are drop down selected values on the form. They map to an entity in the database (Occupation, Country). This command object is going to be fed to a service facade like so: userServiceFacade.createUser(CreateUserCommand command); This facade will construct a user entity to be sent to the actual service. So I suppose that in the facade layer I will have to make several dao calls to map all the lookup properties of the User entity. Based on this what is the best strategy to validate that occupationId and countryId map to real entities? Where is the best place to perform this validation? There is the spring validator but I am not sure this is the best place for this, for one I am wary of this method as validation is tied to the web tier, but also that means I would need to make the dao calls in the validator for validation but I would need to call the dao's in the facade layer again when the command - entity translation occurs. Is there anything I can do better? Thanks.

  • How to provide warnings during validation in ASP.NET MVC?

    Sometimes user input is not strictly invalid but can be considered problematic. For example: A user enters a long sentence in a single-line Name field. He probably should have used the Description field instead. A user enters a Name that is very similar to that of an existing entity. Perhaps he's inputting the same entity but didn't realize it already exists, or some concurrent user has just entered it. Some of these can easily be checked client-side, some require server-side checks. What's the best way, perhaps something similar to DataAnnotations validation, to provide warnings to the user in such cases? The key here is that the user has to be able to override the warning and still submit the form (or re-submit the form, depending on the implementation). The most viable solution that comes to mind is to create some attribute, similar to a CustomValidationAttribute, that may make an AJAX call and would display some warning text but doesn't affect the ModelState. The intended usage is this: [WarningOnFieldLength(MaxLength = 150)] [WarningOnPossibleDuplicate()] public string Name { get; set; } In the view: @Html.EditorFor(model => model.Name) @Html.WarningMessageFor(model => model.Name) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Name) So, any ideas?

  • How do I obtain an HtmlHelper<TModel> instance for a model in ASP.NET MVC?

    Let's say I have an Index view. The model I pass in is actually a collection of models, so the Html property is of type HtmlHelper<List<MyModel>>. If I want to call extension methods (e.g., Display() or DisplayFor() on the individual items in the list, however, I think I need to obtain an HtmlHelper<MyModel>. But how? I tried using the HtmlHelper<TModel> constructor, which looks like this: HtmlHelper<TModel>(ViewContext, IViewDataContainer) But I'm not having any luck with that. I don't know how to obtain the IViewDataContainer for the item, and the documentation on these things is very sparse. A lot of magic apparently happens when I do... return View(List<MyModel>); ...in my controller. How do I recreate that magic on individual items in a list/collection?

  • MVC design pattern in complex iPad app: is one fat controller acceptable?

    I am building a complex iPad application; think of it as a scrapbook. For the purpose of this question, let's consider a page with two images over it. My main view displays my doc data rendered as a single UIImage; this because I need to do some global manipulation over them. This is my DisplayView. When editing I need to instantiate an EditorView with my two images as subviews; this way I can interact with a single image, (rotate it, scale it, move it). When editing is triggered, I hide my DisplayView and show my EditorView. In a iPhone app, I'd associate each main view (that is, a view filling the screen) to a view controller. The problem is here there is just one view controller; I've considered passing the EditorView via a modal view controller, but it's not an option (there a complex layout with a mask covering everything and palettes over it; rebuilding it in the EditorView would create duplicate code). Presently the EditorView incorporates some logic (loads data from the model, invokes some subviews for fine editing, saves data back to the model); EditorView subviews also incorporate some logic (I manipulate images and pass them back to the main EditorView). I feel this logic belongs more to a controller. On the other hand, I am not sure making my only view controller so fat a good idea. What is the best, cocoa-ish implementation of such a class structure? Feel free to ask for clarifications. Cheers.

These HTTP headers must be set: Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate, proxy-revalidate Pragma: no-cache, no-store Expires: -1 Last-Modified: -1 I have found out that this can be done in two ways: Way One: use the web.config file <add name="Cache-Control" value="no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, proxy-revalidate"/> <add name="Pragma" value="no-cache, no-store" /> <add name="Expires" value="-1" /> <add name="Last-Modified" value="-1" /> Way Two: use the meta tags in _Layout.cshtml <meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate, proxy-revalidate" /> <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache, no-store" /> <meta http-equiv="Expires" content="-1" /> <meta http-equiv="Expires" content="-1" /> My Question: which is the better approach?   • MVC more specified models should be populated by more precise query too?

    If you have a Car model with 20 or so properties (and several table joins) for a carDetail page then your LINQ to SQL query will be quite large. If you have a carListing page which uses under 5 properties (all from 1 table) then you use a CarSummary model. Should the CarSummary model be populated using the same query as the Car model? Or should you use a separate LINQ to SQL query which would be more precise? I am just thinking of performance but LINQ uses lazy loading anyway so I am wondering if this is an issue or not.

    I want to perform an Add object scenario in .NET using the modelbinder. Function AddObject() As ActionResult Return View() End Function <AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)> _ Function AddObject(<Bind(Exclude:="ObjectId")> ByVal o As BLL.Object) As ActionResult o.Save() End Function However, I get an error: 'o.ObjectId' is not declared or the module containing it is not loaded in the debugging session. While inspecting the object, all other fields are set properly. I've tried all combinations regarding: with/without Html.Hidden("ObjectId") to with/without <Bind(Exclude:="ObjectId")> and even setting o.ObjectId to Nothing, all with the same results. What am I doing wrong?

  • In Spring MVC, is it possible to have different return types in one request handler method?

    For example, if a request succeeds, I will return a View ,if not, return a String indicating error message and set the content-type to either xml or json. Based on what I read, seems like I should use "void" as the return type for handler methods. Check this out: "void if the method handles the response itself (by writing the response content directly, declaring an argument of type ServletResponse / HttpServletResponse for that purpose) or if the view name is supposed to be implicitly determined through a RequestToViewNameTranslator (not declaring a response argument in the handler method signature)."(Spring Framework reference). What I dont understand is what " the view name is supposed to be implicitly determined through a RequestToViewNameTranslator (not declaring a response argument in the handler method signature)" means? Any anyone give me an example?
