  • Using TrueCrypt with File Replication on Windows Server

    We have a few folders that are set to replicate to a DR file server off-site. One of these folders contains a file that is a TrueCrypt volume container. When this file is mounted in TrueCrypt, the file won't replicate (fair enough!). I'm looking at alternatives to improve this situation. One solution I currently have is to have a scheduled task to unmount the volume and then every morning as the volume is needed, have someone mount it. This is a pain slightly because the password is known by a few people (I'm not one and neither are my colleagues who would be performing the mounting operation) so we'd need to continually get them to come over and type it in. The other I had was to have one TrueCrypt container on each server and replicate the contents when they are mounted. I wasn't able to get TrueCrypt to see the mounted volume so I guess this is a no go. Any other solutions I have missed or a fix for the above?

Reasons NOT to limit log file sizes Research into performance issues or security breaches Any other? Methods of doing so Cron job that periodically deletes the file, or the first N lines? Any other? Anything you might salvage before deleting For example, grep out how many times a file was downloaded before deleting the access logs I'd like get the thoughts of experienced sysadmins before I do anything.     I have a large file I want to transfer using either Internet storage hosting, DVD-Rs or USB storage, which sometimes is limited to FAT file-systems (for example: mobile phones) What I'm basically looking for is a tool that create multiple files/volumes (less than 2GB each - FAT's file size limit) which are packed with a self-extracting executable. Currently the only tool I found doing this is WinRAR, but that's shareware, and not free. Is there any Free, preferably Open-Source tool that does that? Thank in advance

  • Mac OS X : Why does chown report "Operation not permitted"?

    I am trying to do the following on my Mac (10.6.7) : sudo chown myusername:wheel ./entries but Unix/Mac is returning "Operation not permitted". When I ls -lash, the culprit file, it looks as follows: 8 -rwxrwxrwx 1 myusername staff 394B Apr 26 23:26 entries I've tried sudo, I've tried sudo su, nothing works? Any ideas what's up? The files I'm trying to chmod I've copied from my old Ubuntu box, most of the files have successfully chmodded recursively, just this one is stuck and I don't understand why.

    I created a .reg file but when I double-click it, it doesn't want to be imported. The specified file is not a registry script.You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.     I have 2 script. Script "A", Script "B". Script A is regulary watching the dhcpacks [dhcp release is configured to 2mins] in the logs, for the past 2 minutes. It writes the MAC addresses to a file [/dev/shm/dhcpacks-in-last-2min.txt] every 2 minutes. Ok, this is working, active clients are in this file. Super! Script B: On pastebin I'm trying to create a script, that watches the changes in /dev/shm/dhcpacks-in-last-2min.txt file ( every 1 sec). Ok. But: my watcher script [the pastebined][1] is not working fine - sometime it works, sometime it sends that someoneXY logged out`, but it's not true! Nothing happened, and the problem is not in the Script A. Can someone help me point out, what am I missing? How can I watch a file (in every sec), that contains only MAC addresses, and if someone doesn't get dhcpack in 2 minutes, the file /dev/shm/dhcpacks-in-last-2min.txt changes, and that clients MAC address will be gone from it, and i need to know, who was it [pastebined my script - but somethings wrong with it]. Thank you for any help..I've been pathing my script for days now.. :\

    How can I mount windows share file system into RHEL? I'm not a sysadmin, but I got this task assigned :( I've tried this solution mount -t smbfs -o username=samba,password=samba //Desktop/Public /mnt/public But the output is: mount: unknown filesystem type 'smbfs' How can I mount a windows share into RHEL 5? FWIW I've successfully created a link with the menu: Places>Connect to Server>Service Type:Windows Share Which creates a link in the desktop, but I would need to programatically save files in that machine, hence I need it mounted as filesystem.   • Deleting large no of files on linux eats up CPU

    I generate more than 50GB of cache files on my RHEL server (and typical file size is 200kb so no of files is huge). When I try to delete these files it takes 8-10 hours. However, the bigger issue is that the system load goes to critical for these 8-10 hours. Is there anyway where I can keep the system load under control during the deletion. I tried using nice -n19 rm -rf * but that doesn't help in system load.

However, on some systems when the user clicks the link, Windows Media Player gives them the error: Window Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file All I did was copy the video to the server and store the URL in a database. I can decompile a CHM file using hh.exe, but I don't know how to easily merge the resulting files into a single HTML file, all while preserving the correct order of pages. Is there a free tool which can do this? If not, how can I merge the HTML files in order?

  • Sfsync04 file is corrupted

    I don't know exactly what I did, but somehow the sfsync04.sys (drivers) file is corrupt, and now I can't start my windows. That's the error startup repair gives me, and it is unable to correct it automatically. I'm currently running a live version of Ubuntu, so I can access my files, and everything seems to be alright except for the sfsync04.sys file. Is there a way I can repair that file so I can avoid reinstalling Windows for now? I'm running windows 7 64 bits. The file is in windows\system32\drivers\ . I think this happened when I tried to install some legacy software, but I'm not sure.

    Problem: When excel windows are minimised, I can't see the file name, all I get is a rather unhelpful 'Microsoft Excel' proceeded by the file name. I have the taskbar docked on the left, and have second monitor that I use about 50% of the time, but can't work out what is causing the problem, or a setting that I can change that will remove the appended software name at the beginning of the file.     I am making a get request to an SSL enabled site on apache (so wireshark isn't giving me anything to useful). In my Apache SSL access log I see the following entry: 1.2.3.4 - my.username [15/Nov/2012:16:52:01 +0000] "GET /uploads/file.mp3 HTTP/1.1" 206 534400 "https://site.com/uploads/layla.mp3" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/535.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu/12.04 Chromium/18.0.1025.168 Chrome/18.0.1025.168 Safari/535.19" Why is this happening? I'm not familiar with the HTTP 206 response code but searching the Internet I can see it is a partial content GET requests. I understand correctly, my browser is making a partial GET request not for the full file. Is that correct? If so, is this a browser issue or is the web server instructing my browser to do so? I have tested in Firefox also and in both browser, I am not sent the file. If I rename the file to file.jpg I can download it through my browser and rename it to .mp3 and it plays. How can I troubleshoot this issue?

  • Moving multiple folders all at once in Outlook

    Constantly at my shop, we are moving Outlook (or other email program) files between computers or Windows Installations, and sometimes, people have HUNDREDS of folders. Is there a quick way to move ALL the folders from multiple data files (*.PST) into one single file, without dragging each and every folder? No, I don't want to move the Inbox folder into the other Inbox folder for the quick move, I want something simple like selecting all folders and moving that way. Does such a method exist in any version of Outlook?
