• Is it possible to create a jdbc connection without a password (using postgresql 'trust')?

  I am using jdbc to connect to a postgresql database in a java application (actually the app is written in Groovy). I have postgresql set up to use the 'trust' authentication method. Is it possible to open a jdbc connection without specifying a password? When I try to use the normal constructor with a blank password, it fails with Exception in thread "Thread-2" org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: FATAL: password authentication failed for user "myuser" Even though, from the command line, this works fine psql -U myuser mydatabase Welcome to psql 8.3.5, the PostgreSQL interactive terminal. • Merging Brach into Trunk...

  Now I know this has been asked a few times, but i'm still not getting it... I use Versions which is doing a great job, I am also using beansalk and they are working nicely together. However, I have been working on a branch of the trunk (sandbox) which I now want to merge back into the trunk. Versions can't do this, so it's into Terminal. Sandbox is reversion 256 and the Trunk (because of a few other amends) is 255. Any help on this would be great, and read a few bits, but still a little lost...

• Howto disable the emacs site-start files permanently?

  When solving this problem I figured out that I need to disable the site-wise init files in order to get my emacs + CEDET running (everything works nicely when starting emacs using emacs --no-site-file but is broken without the additional argument). I'd like to disable the site-wise init files permanently but as I'm using several different approaches/methods when launching emacs (launcher/panel/terminal) I don't think aliasing it in my .zshrc won't work. I require a method to permanently disable all site-start files. Is there any easy way to achieve this? Thanks!

  Hello, I have app which have two views implemented in Tabbar, one of them is UIWebView which shows some random html and second is mapView (route-me map), I have function in MapViewController.m which do sth stuff when is clicked on marker label - (void) tapOnLabelForMarker: (RMMarker*) marker onMap: (RMMapView*) map { NSLog(@"taponlabelformarker clicked"); self.tabBarController.selectedIndex=0; WebViewController *web = [[WebViewController alloc] init]; [web dajdasepije]; } and that function should call function which show html in uiwebview tab -(void)dajdasepije { NSLog(@" pokreni me njezno"); [webView loadRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.google.com"]]]; } Problem is that UIWebView never show google page that I asked for it, NSLog prints out at terminal messages that function was called but nothing else happens. • Can I install Whizzy for Emacs on a Mac (is Mac OS X a unix environment)?

  I think my question is pretty stupid, but here it goes: I am using Aquamacs, and I want to install the Whizzy mode. The website for Whizzy says that "it is designed for Unix platforms". I read that Mac OS X is unix certified, but does that mean I can install Whizzy on my mac? If yes, can I install and use it with Aquamacs or do I have to use the Emacs running from the terminal? PS: I don't know whether this question should be posted here or on SuperUser, but as Emacs users seem to hang out here more often, this is the place I chose.

There are a few filenames in this file (Costco) that don't have .html and _files. I need to pick them out, the only issue is that it has over 2,500 filenames. Need help on a code that will search through this path and pick out all the filenames that don't end with .html or _files. Thanks guys

But the strange thing is, that IF I did screen -x $PROCESS and detach (ctrl-A & ctrl-D) and then I use the Stop command it does work. So is there a way around to stuff printf without -screen -x the $PROCESS? Thank You in Advance

  From a M$ development perspective, using things like vs.net/c#/asp.net/asp.net mvc/sql server, things are pretty much smooth. (Obviously for someone coming from a microsoft background like me). Now I love the idea of open source, linux and terminal servering into the computer and doing things via the command line, no license issues really, etc. I've tried firing up eclipse etc., but I always seem to get stuck on some configuration issue or another. Does it get easier or is it just the territory when you are dealing with the java stack?

• Mac OS X: getting names of changed/written files

  I remember having a command line tool on an older Mac OS X version (Tiger?) that told me the name of every file that was written to (or read) by any process on the system. It used fseventd (? or something like that). Is there something like that for the newest Mac OS X (10.6)? It should be run in a terminal window and then I can use the system as normal. Let's say I type cat /etc/passwd, the output of that program would be similar to /bin/cat /etc/passwd I can't use lsof because I can't get the timing right. Is this clear or do you need more information?

I run paste -d" " t.tex tE.tex | sed 's@$@XXX@' > tM.tex where the problem is in the use of the mark $ for the end of the line. I get #paste -d" " t.tex tE.tex | sed -e s/" "/\\\&/g | sed -r "s/XXX/" > tM.tex sed: -e expression #1, char 10: unterminated `s' command make: *** [all] Error 1 I have the command just after the "all:" tag in my makefile which contains only the two lines. The parameters -n and -e do not help here. The command works as expected run when it is run directly in terminal.

• Identifying control characters in Perl

  Actually, I am doing one project. In that I want to implement the command line features as like in linux terminal. And I saw this in ftp command also. If I press tab I need to list the commands. If I press control characters I need to get that characters based on that I will do some action. And If I give any commands it should execute. For this I tried with Term::ReadKey that is non canonical mode. But here I am facing more problems like, If I press any control character or arrow I got three characters. Ex: for up arrow I got ascii as 279165. Can anyone help me out of this problem? And I feel that there will be a better solution for this. Thanks in Advance.

• Writing to CSV issue in Spyder

  I am doing the Kaggle Titanic beginner contest. I generally work in Spyder IDE, but I came across a weird issue. The expected output is supposed to be 418 rows. When I run the script from terminal the output I get is 418 rows (as expected). When I run it in Spyder IDE the output is 408 rows not 418. When I re-run it in the current python process, it outputs the expected 418 rows. I posted a redacted portion of the code that has all of the relevant bits. • Controlling rsync with Python?

  I've been wanting to write a python script that would run several instances of rsync in sequence for backing up data to a different computer. At the moment I just have this text file with the commands I use and I've just been copy-pasting them into the terminal, and it seems kinda silly. I want to be able to use python to do this for me. I know very vaguely how to use subprocess.popen, but I have no clue how to get python to interact with rsync directly, like for entering my password for me. Can python do that? Something like: if theProccess.proccessResponse == "Password:" : theProccess.respond(string) Or is the best that I can do is just have it, or even a bash script, just run the rsyncs in sequence and have to type my password in over and over again? • Would dropping X altogether hurt ?

  Hi, I live in the linux terminal all the time under my slackware GNU/linux system (an EeePC). By default, GNU Emacs won't start if It can't find several Xorg libraries. Assuming I will never use X software at all, would it make sense for me to drop all this Xorg stuff and compile emacs again ? Are you aware of anything that could get me into troubles or making GNU Emacs not working at all ? Are there any advantage for me to keep all these dependencies ? I am asking since as said, my main box is an eeepc with little storage and I am dangerously hitting the limits ;-) Regards

• python packaging problem

  hi expert, I develop code in python to scan wifi and send to the server, it's working fine when executed manually, but i packaged it via http://www.python-packager.com by uploading my .py file and they create package for me as deb file for linux, and i download it and install the package but nothing happen when i click the .exe or set it as startup application. Why does this happen? Nothing is printed in the terminal. In .py file i'm having print statement to check manually to list out the wifi scan value, data to post to the server, response from the server once send. How this can be solved? thanks

• Using CMake with Eclipse CDT, quickly switch targets?

  I'm using the CDT4 - MinGW Makefiles generator. Project-Build All successfully builds the target (a shared library) but it seems I would have to (A) open a project settings page and type in the target, hoping it's spelled right*, or (B) run make from a terminal to "build" the install and package targets. I noticed a promising Project-Make Target entry, but the Create... and Build... sub-entries are greyed-out. • Emacs and Long Shell Commands

  Is there a way to run a shell command, have the output show up in a new buffer and have that output show up incrementally? Eshell and other emacs terminal emulators do a find job of this but I see no way to script them. What I'd like to do is write little elisp functions to do stuff like run unit tests, etc. and watch the output trickle into a buffer. The elisp function shell-command is close to what I want but it shows all the output at once when the process finishes.

  I downloaded the GCM project from git and i was able to start the server (app engine for java) and also compile the client apk on the device. On startup the device successfully registers with the server and I can see the registration id when i go to http://myserverip:8080/_ah/admin/. The problem is when i hit the 'Send Message' button there is a message 'Single message queued for registration id ' and it doesn't do anything. Below is a screenshot of the error i noticed on the terminal. Am i missing something. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. .

  Newbie in testing. I generated a test case using Selenium, and then exported it as a Python script. Now, when I try to run that in terminal, I get following error: raise exception_class(message, screen, stacktrace) NoSuchElementException: Message: u'Unable to locate element: {"method":"link text","selector":"delete"}' I am using the command generated by Selenium i.e driver.find_element_by_link_text("delete").click() The reason for the error I believe is that the link "delete" in my web page is seen only when I click on a particular line to be deleted. So I guess it is being unable to locate the link. Please suggest what alternative measure could I use to locate and click on the "delete" link. Thanks in Advance:)

Specifically, for my WAMP server, I want to change the permissions of my "www" folder so that its contents can be viewed over the Internet, and I want all of its subfolders to have the same permissions. Currently, for each folder, I'm getting the following message in my browser: "You don't have permission to access / on this server." I believe there's a simple command I could enter in a terminal for recursively changing folder permissions for global access; I just don't know what it is.

• Problem running firefox built from source (on Ubuntu 9.10)

  The title of the question sums it up pretty well. I've downloaded the source for firefox 3.6 and built it (no errors), but when I try to run it, I get a warning that says: (firefox-bin:2857): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times I'm not sure what to try now. Any suggestions? Or even a better place to ask this question? *EDIT - It's not that I only get a warning, that wouldn't bother me. The problem is that the warning is the only thing that ever happens (no firefox windows show up or anything). When I run it from the terminal, that warning shows up twice and then nothing else happens (it just hangs and I have to Ctrl-C it).
