• Why Does Ejabberd Start Fail?

  I am trying to install ejabberd 2.1.10-2 on my Ubuntu 12.04.1 server. This is a fresh install, and ejabberd is never successfully installed. The Install Every time, apt-get hangs on this: Setting up ejabberd (2.1.10-2ubuntu1) ... Generating SSL certificate /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.pem... Creating config file /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.cfg with new version Starting jabber server: ejabberd............................................................ failed. The dots just go forever until it times out or I 'killall' beam, beam.smp, epmd, and ejabberd processes. I've turned off all firewall restrictions. Here's the output of epmd -names while the install is hung: epmd: up and running on port 4369 with data: name ejabberdctl at port 42108 name ejabberd at port 39621 And after it fails: epmd: up and running on port 4369 with data: name ejabberd at port 39621 At the same time (during and after), the output of both netstat -atnp | grep 5222 and netstat -atnp | grep 5280 is empty. The Crash File A crash dump file is create at /var/log/ejabber/erl_crash.dump. The slogan (i.e. reason for the crash) is: Slogan: Kernel pid terminated (application_controller) ({application_start_failure,kernel,{shutdown,{kernel,start,[normal,[]]}}}) It's alive? Whenever I try to relaunch ejabberd with service ejabberd start, the same thing happens - even if I've killed all processes before doing so. • Installing Yaws server on Ubuntu 12.04 (Using a cloud service)

  I'm trying to get a Yaws web server working on a cloud service (Amazon AWS). I've compilled and installed a local copy on the server. My problem is that I can't get Yaws to run while running on either port 8000 or port 80. • New hidden parameters in Oracle 11.2

  We really welcome every external review of our slides. And also recommendations from customers visiting our workshops. So it happened to me more than a week ago that Marco Patzwahl, the owner of MuniqSoft GmbH, had a very lengthy train ride in Germany (as the engine drivers go on strike this week it could have become even worse) and nothing better to do then reviewing our slide set. And he had plenty of recommendations. Besides that he pointed us to something at least I was not aware of and added it to the slides: In patch set 11.2.0.2 a new behaviour for datafile write errors has been implemented. With this release ANY write error to a datafile will cause the instance to abort. Before 11.2.0.2 those errors usually led to an offline datafile if the database operates in archivelog mode (your production database do, don’t they?!) and the datafile does not belong to the SYSTEM tablespace. Internal discussion found this behaviour not up-to-date and alligned with RAC systems and modern storages. Kurt visited the upgrade workshop two weeks ago in Belgium and did highlight to me that since Oracle 11.2.0.1 even though you haven’t set neither SGA_TARGET nor MEMORY_TARGET the database might still do resize operations. Reason why this behaviour has been changed: Prevention of ORA-4031 errors. But on databases with extremly high loads this can cause trouble. Further information can be found in MOS Note:1269139.1 . I've managed to install texlive and than I can't install anything else. • Frame rate on one of two machines running same code seems to be capped at 60 for no reason

  ISSUE I recently moved a project from my laptop to my desktop(machine info below). On my laptop the exact same code displays the fps(and ms/f) correctly. On my desktop it does not. What I mean by this is on the laptop it will display 300 fps(for example) where on my desktop it will show only up to 60. If I add 100 objects to the game on the laptop I'll see my frame rate drop accordingly; the same test on the desktop results in no change and the frames stay at 60. It takes a lot(~300) entities before I'll see a frame drop on the desktop, then it will descend. It seems as though its "theoretical" frames would be 400 or 500 but will never actually get to that and only do 60 until there's too much to handle at 60. This 60 frame cap is coming from no where. I'm not doing any frame limiting myself. It seems like something external is limiting my loop iterations on the desktop, but for the last couple days I've been scratching my head trying to figure out how to debug this. SETUPS Desktop: Visual Studio Express 2012 Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Laptop: Visual Studio Express 2010 Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit The libraries(allegro, box2d) are the same versions on both setups. Where I'm at My understanding of al_get_time() is that it can return different resolutions depending on the system. However the resolution is never worse than seconds, and the double is represented as [seconds].[finer-resolution] and seeing as I'm only checking for a whole second al_get_time() shouldn't be responsible. My project settings and compiler options are the same. And I promise its the same code on both machines. My googling really didn't help me much, and although technically it's not that big of a deal. I'd really like to figure this out or perhaps have it explained, whichever comes first. Even just an idea of how to go about figuring out possible causes, because I'm out of ideas. Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

• Integrating with a payment provider; Proper and robust OOP approach

  History We are currently using a so called redirect model for our online payments (where you send the payer to a payment gateway, where he inputs his payment details - the gateway will then return him to a success/failure callback page). That's easy and straight-forward, but unfortunately quite inconvenient and at times confusing for our customers (leaving the site, changing their credit card details with an additional login on another site etc). Intention & Problem description We are now intending to switch to an integrated approach using an exchange of XML requests and responses. My problem is on how to cater with all (or rather most) of the things that may happen during processing - bearing in mind that normally simplicity is robust whereas complexity is fragile. Examples User abort: The user inputs Credit Card details and hits submit. An XML message to the provider's gateway is sent and waiting for response. The user hits "stop" in his browser or closes the window. ignore_user_abort() in PHP may be an option - but is that reliable? might it be better to redirect the user to a "please wait"-page, that in turn opens an AJAX or other request to the actual processor that does not rely on the connection? Database goes away sounds over-complicated, but with e.g. a webserver in the States and a DB in the UK, it has happened and will happen again: User clicks together his order, payment request has been sent to the provider but the response cannot be stored in the database. What approach could I use, using PHP to sort of start an SQL like "Transaction" that only at the very end gets committed or rolled back, depending on the individual steps? Should then neither commit or roll back have happened, I could sort of "lock" the user to prevent him from paying again or to improperly account for payments - but how? And what else do I need to consider technically? None of the integration examples of e.g. Worldpay, Realex or SagePay offer any insight, and neither Google or my search terms were good enough to find somebody else's thoughts on this. • Looking for definitive answer to accessing a network drive/NAS/SMB drive via Windows 7 HOME and Windows 7 Professional. Is it possible and how?

  I want to be able to access my Lacie 2Big network drive in Windows 7 Explorer. I have a machine with Windows 7 Home and one with Windows 7 Professional. Neither Windows 7, home or pro, can access the drive. The Windows 7 Home machine displays the drive in its Explorer, with the capacity, but on clicking the icon, I get another window, blank with the busy pointer which does not eventually stop. The drive is working perfectly. How do I know this? Because I can access it with no problems on my Apple Mac, Windows XP home and Ubuntu machines on the same network as the Windows 7 machines. Except for the Windows XP home machine that required Lacie ethernet agent program, the Mac and the Ubuntu machines needed no setup, the drive appeared like any other drive. So my 2 questions: Is it possible to access a network share drive, e.g. a NAS like Lacie 2big in Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional. If so how? I read on Microsoft's own forums and elsewhere that network sharing drives, e.g. via SambaSMB is NOT possible on Windows 7 Home. • mod_perl loses STDOUT in middle of request

  Hi, I have been having this weird issue where mod_perl seems to lose STDOUT in the middle of the request. So far I have eliminated everything I could think of. You might have seen this bug related to the following errors in error_log : Apache2 IO flush: (103) Apache2::RequestIO::read: (104) Software caused connection abort They are all the same error. It happens when the perl script running under mod_perl loses STDOUT when trying to print the result back to apache. I only notice this error on my servers running the following: (centos5.4) Perl 5.8.8-27 mod_perl 2.0.4-6 httpd 2.2.3-31 kernel-2.6.18-164.15.1 It's not the code This code has been working for months It's not network related The browser gets the error response from apache. It's not time related I get the error 15 or so seconds after I restart httpd It's not idle httpd related I have tried reducing the min/max SpareServers to 1 It's not load related I get the error even if there are only 10 sessions on httpd It's not related to the "fd < PERLIO_MAX_REFCOUNTABLE_FD" perl 5.8.8 bug I recompiled perl-5.8.8 with the patch mentioned here : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=559832, same error. It appeared sometime between December 2009 and February 2010 sorry I cannot be more specific Anyone has any idea ? Anything that I have not tested ? Really Puzzled!

• MOSS 2007 - Solution deployment never successful

  We cannot get any solutions to deploy to a MOSS 2007 environment. We are also attempting to install solutions from a SharePoint vendor - their installer is reporting the solutions are already deployed. This doesn't appear to apply to our farm: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/4f1b3aaf-7173-4151-874b-5740bff4b14f We could not find that path location anywhere our any of our MOSS servers (CA, WFEs, etc).

• Experience with AMCC 3ware 9650se raid cards? Ours seems dead

  We have a 8-port 3ware 9650se raid card for our main disk array. We had to bring the server down for a pending power outage, and when we turned the machine back on, the raid card never started. This card has been in service for a couple years without problems, and was working up until the shutdown. Now, when we turn the machine on, the bios option rom that normally kicks in before the bootloader doesn't show up, none of the drives start, and when the OS tries to access the device, it just times out. The firmware on it has been upgraded in the past, so it's possible we've hit some sort of firmware bug. We're using it in a Silicon Mechanics R272 machine with gentoo for the OS. The OS eventually boots, but alas, without the card. We've ordered a new one, but I'm worried that if we replace the card it won't recognize the existing array. Has anybody performed a card swap before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.   I'm trying to use my Synology DS212 NAS box also act as VPN gateway to my companies VPN. Sadly, they only use Cisco ASA and to complicate stuff even further, we've got to use personal certificates (which is of course more secure, but more complicate to get going…). So I compiled OpenConnect v4.06 from http://www.infradead.org/openconnect/. As a very basic test, I tried to build a connection by manually invoking openconnect, passing along the key and cert files, like so: /lib/ld-linux.so.3 --library-path /opt/lib \ /opt/openconnect/sbin/openconnect \ --certificate=$VPN_CFG/alexander.crt \ --sslkey=$VPN_CFG/alexander.key \ --cafile=$VPN_CFG/Company_VPN_CA.crt \ --user=alexander --verbose <ip>:443 It fails :( Attempting to connect to <ip>:443 Using certificate file $VPN_CFG/alexander.crt Using client certificate '/[email protected]/OU=Company VPN' 5919:error:0D0680A8:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_CHECK_TLEN:wrong tag:tasn_dec.c:1315: Loading private key failed (see above errors) Loading certificate failed.   I am using Tomcat 6 as application server, Struts-Hibernate and MyEclipse 6.0. My application uses JDBC driver but I should modify it to use JNDI Datasource. I followed steps as described in tomcat 6.0 howto tutorial.   Hi there, I have what seems to be a pretty common problem when trying to take a differential backup. We have a SQL Server 2008 Standard (64bit) and we use Litespeed v 5.0.2.0 to take our backups. We take full backups once a week and a differential on a daily basis. The problem is, every time I try to take a diff backup I get the following error: "VDI open failed due to requested abort. BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. Cannot perform a differential backup for database "myDb", because a current database backup does not exist. Perform a full database backup by reissuing BACKUP DATABASE, omitting the WITH DIFFERENTIAL option." The problem is that I know 100% I have a full backup because I just double checked. Only once I was able to take a diff backup and that was when I took it immediately after I took a full backup. I have searched around and noticed that this is pretty common (although mostly with SQL 2005) and a solution that a lot of ppl suggest and that I haven't tried yet is to disable the SQL Server VSS Writer service. The problem with this is #1 I think I might need this service since I am using a third party backup software and #2 I am not sure exactly what the service does and don't want to disable it just like that. Has any of you ever experienced this problem and how did you go about fixing it? Thank you,

• Run a perl script as a windows 7 service

  I have a perl script which is compiled using pp, to be run as a windows service on windows 7 machines. I looked at the thread http://www.perlmonks.org/index.pl?node%5Fid=230377 but of little use because most of them weren't clear and the solutions suggested in that were to create executables and not actually for running as a windows 7 service. I tried putting my compiled exe in the scheduled tasks of windows but I think its not able to run for some reason. How do I debug this?
