• Windows 7 Laptop, cursor jumping after typing the letters "y" or "t" [closed]

  My wife has an HP laptop running windows 7. She has a very frustrating problem when typing: in some, but not all cases, typing the letter's "y" or "t" will cause the cursor to jump back a few lines or some number of words. The result is that she ends up typing over whatever it was that she was working on. (as a matter of fact, I just experienced this while typing this question on her computer with the phrase: "typing the letter..." above.) I've installed the latest drivers for her touchpad from Synaptic and disabled tap touching and gesture features to rule out simple unintended mouse clicks. Still the "y" and "t" keys continue to cause problems.

• Cloned Windows 7 to new HDD and want to change the drive letter to C

  I used Clonezilla to clone my existing hard drive to a new one I bought. I then changed the BIOS to set the new drive as the first in the boot sequence. I'm pretty sure that I'm still running Windows 7 on the old drive. My old drive is marked as C. Now that I don't have a disk drive any more, how I do I swap the drive letter from J: to C:? I tried to change it in the disk management section of "Manage", but it reports: "the parameter is incorrect".

• Firefox on Windows 7 became an "always top" window

  I am using Mozilla Firefox 7.0.1 on a Windows 7 computer (home basic). I usually keep the browser window opened for a long periods of time, like three to four weeks, and I have many tabs opened in the window, like 300 to 900. Recently all of the sudden the Firefox window became "always top" window. I can minimize it, but when it is maximized, no other window can be displayed in front of it, only behind it. This is very inconvenient for me. Is there any fix that I can apply without restarting the Firefox window? Thank you.

• Pinned program on the taskbar is not grouping in Windows 7 Ultimate

  Previously, I had pinned Google Chrome Dev to the taskbar. Being that it was unstable and crashed frequently, I decided to uninstall it. Before uninstalling, however, I did not un-pin its icon from the taskbar. Afterward, I installed Google Chrome Stable and launched it from the old pinned icon. This resulted in a new icon appearing in the taskbar. I figured this happened because the icon was originally for the Dev build, so I unpinned the icon and re-pinned Google Chrome. I launch Google Chrome again, but I still get a new icon! Re-pinning the icon should have fixed it, no? Why aren't my Google Chrome windows grouping together?

• Remotely initiate windows updates

  I have a network with countless workstations on it and the windows updates are done through WSUS in push cycles to allow us to use a generic image and configuration and avoid network congestion. I have a number of workstations in storage that are connected once a month for a few days to recieve updates, however not all of them fall within their push cycle. I want to avoid going to each machine and clicking "check updates" as that would require me to connect a monitor, mouse and keyboard. Is there a way (preferably through powershell but im open minded) to initiate a check and install of updates on a remote system? Lets say for 1 system at a time right now, I can add a file reader and a look later. NOTE: the configuration of the WSUS server is above my pay grade, im simply being asked to ensure these machines are updated. Thanks for any help or hints

• Missing Desktop Icon Labels in Windows 7

  Hey guys. Big problem that has been bothering me to no end. My desktop icons have been stripped of their icon labels, and nothing seems to be recovering them. To be clear, when I attempt to rename, the text shows up, and when I view my desktop in an explorer window, all text is preserved. System restore to a stock state will not recover. No changes have been done to the computer-- no installs or downloads for two weeks prior to this error. Rebuilt the icon cache, still no response. Anybody know what can be causing this problem? • Error configuring virtual hosts with Apache on Windows 8 [on hold]

  I can't get virtual host to work on my Windows 8. I restart, stop, start Apache, but I get a popup dialog that says: The requested operation has failed! I know it's the line that produces the error, but how can I enable vhost if I don't uncomment the line in httpd.conf? # Virtual hosts Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf The only thing I did was edited C:\Apache24\conf\httpd.conf by removing the comment on Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf and edited the file located in C:\Apache24\conf\extra\httpd-vhost.conf. • Windows Service stops on Server Patch

  I'm a developer that has a Windows Service that runs on a production server that sends emails that are entered into a database on a database server. Although the service is set to start automatically, whenever the web server gets patched (which happens every other week), for some reason the service fails to start and various emails don't get sent. I don't actually have access to the server, so I have to request a build administrator to start the service. What I want to know is whether there is any reason for the service to fail to start when the server is patched?

• Windows 7 startup repair with Truecrypt

  I have many computers encrypted with Truecrypt 7.1a (current version) with the whole drive encrypted. Today one of them shows the Windows 7 splash screen for a moment and then goes into startup repair which can't read the encrypted drive. I've tried the various safe modes and what not. The solution is to decrypt the drive and then run startup repair to fix the drive. The problem is that is going to take 50 hours. I've started that process for this situation but I need to have a way to cover myself when this happens to the next PC. What can I do to avoid decrypting the whole drive? I can't be the only one facing this problem so I feel like I must be missing something. Thanks!

  I am new in Windows CE development and never done it yet. Need some advise from the expert in here. In our current project, we are developing a client-server application. The client side is using a windows form application that are base on Windows XP OS while the server is a web base application. This question are related to the client application (Windows Form). This application are using Sql Server Express Edition for data storage. The data is stored in XML object format. It also can transfer a data from client to server via web service. It also interact with hardware such as Magnetic Stripe Reader, Contactless Smart Card Reader, and a thermal printer. Most of the communication between hardware device and systems are base on Serial Port. It is use standard app.config for the configuration and is a multi threaded application. There is a new requirement to use a Handheld device which is use a Windows CE platform. This handheld included the required equipment such as Contactless Smart Card Reader, Printer and Magnetic Stripe Reader. Instead of developing a new client application, is it possible to me to convert my current application that are base on Windows XP to Windows CE? If yes, how can I do that? • Object/Module not found: RDS from VB6 app to a Win2003 server

  I have a rather legacy application EXE written in VB6 and running on a Windows 2000 server that uses RDS (Remote Data Services) to access a business object DLL (also written in VB6) running on a Windows 2003 server. The DLL has never run on this server (we're moving the component off the old W2K server), but it is registered and defined as a component on the W2k+3 server. The specific code where the DLL is being called is: Private m_rdsDS As RDS.DataSpace Dim oARImport As Object Set oARImport = m_rdsDS.CreateObject("ARBatches.BL_ARBatches", txtWebServer) MsgBox oARImport.AddBatches(m_vConnParms, arbParseString, LinesFromFile) The CreateObject appears to work fine, but calling the method AddBatches raises the error number 8209 "Internet Server Error: Object/module not found." I'm leaning towards the idea that there is a permission issue somewhere at the root of the problem, but if this were the case, why wouldn't it say "You don't have permission"? I'd really like to rewrite the whole app but "they" won't let me.

Update: I figured out that if I disable and re-enable the Outlook Mobile Access setting for each user, the msExchOmaAdminWirelessEnable attribute shows up again for those users missing that attribute...weird..

• How to make Excel strip ALL quotes from CSV text fields

  When importing a CSV file into Excel, it only strips the double-quotes from the FIRST field on the line, but leaves them on all other fields. How can I force Excel to strip the quotes from ALL strings? For instance, I have a CSV file: "text1", "text2", "numeric1", "numeric 2" "abc", "def", 123, 456 "abc", "def", 123, 456 "abc", "def", 123, 456 "abc", "def", 123, 456 I import it into Excel using Data Import External Data Import Data. I specify that the fields are delimited by commas, and that the text delimiter is the double-quote character. Both the data preview and the actual Excel spreadsheet columns only strip the double-quotes from the first text field. All other text fields still have quotes around them. What's really strange is that Access is able to import this data correctly (i.e. strips quotes from every text field. Note that this is NOT a matter of internal commas or quotes or escape characters. This happens in Excel 2003 and Excel 2007.

But when I change the template (just remove a single static char), the report is getting generated but with some junk format. • Performance monitor shows 4294967293 sessions active

  I have an ASP.Net 3.5 website running in IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003 R2. It is a relatively small internal application that probably serves less than ten users at any given time. The server has 4 Gig of memory and shows that 3+ Gig is available while the site is active. Just minutes after restarting the web application Performance monitor shows that there is a whopping 4,294,967,293 sessions active! I am fairly certain that this number is incorrect; at the time this reading there were only 100 requests to the website. Has anyone else experienced this kind odd behavior from perf mon? Any ideas on how to get an accurate reading? UPDATE: After running for about an hour the number of active sessions has dropped by 4. So it does seem to be responding to sessions timing out.

  I have a form (Quote) with an auto-number ID, on the form at the moment are two subforms that show different items (sub 1 shows partition modules sub 2 shows partition abutments) both forms use the same parts tables to build them. Both forms are linked to the quote form using the ID. All works well until the forms is refreshed or re-loaded, subform 1 shows the module names and quantities and blank spaces for the abutment names but shows the quantiews for the abutments, the reverse of this is shown in the abutments subform 2. When the lists for the variuos types and the detailed parts lists are printed they are correct. This seems to be only a visual problem. All based on Access 2003. • Trying to use VB to automate some queries. Running into what looks like a string problem

  Hi there I'm using MS Access 2003 and I'm trying to execute a few queries at once using VB. When I write out the query in SQL it works fine, but when I try to do it in VB it asks me to "Enter Parameter Value" for DEPA, then DND (which are the first few letters of a two strings I have). • Push or Pull to Excel for reporting data

  I am unsure which is the best way to go here. I have a third party Excel 2003 spreadsheet that needs to be filled in on a monthly basis and emailed. Currently it is a manual process and I am in the process of automating the generation of the spreadsheet. I have been throwing around different ideas of how to get the data into the spreadsheet. I have thought of using SSRS to create a report that is in a similar format and get the user to cut and past. Alternatively writing a VBA addin that retrieves that data from a webservice and then adds the data to the spreadsheet. Or using the third party spreadsheet as a template and open it on the server via oledb and adding the data then serving it as a downloadable file. Which is better or are the better solutions out there?

  Im running a asp.net website on windows 2003 ii6. Every 24-28 hours im getting the following error: When the error occurres all users are disconnected from the website. Event Type: Warning Event Source: W3SVC Event Category: None Event ID: 1013 Date: 02/02/2010 Time: 19:29:38 User: N/A A process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' exceeded time limits during shut down. The process id was '1660'. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Any idea what does the error means? Is this related to application pool recycle? if so , is it a must to recycle iis pool? thanks!

  I am executing the following routine often in order to clear the local cache of many Outlook clients (Outlook 2003) in order to fix corrupted Forms stored on the users local drive. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab. Click Advanced Options. In the Advanced Options box, click Custom Forms. In the Custom Forms box, click Manage Forms. In the Forms Manager box, click Clear Cache. Is there a way I can program this to occur on the local client? I am looking for a solution that could be included in Outlooks VBScript in order to include it in yet another 'Organizational Forms Library' Forms client side validation code. Would this question better fit Server Fault Stack Exchange via an admin script/tool?

• How would I access the Windows Login (Authentication) API from a C++ Service Application?

  Let us imagine for a moment that I have a piece of hardware that can act as an authentication for a user on a given system. I want to write an application in C++ to run as a service, look for this device and if found log the appropriate user in. I believe I have found the API's I would need to use to perform the hardware and service portions of the application but am having a hard time nailing down a way to create a "real" user login. Is this possible? If so where would I look to find resources on accomplishing this? I think of it as being an analog to fingerprint scanner login type devices.
