Connect iPad to windows 7 VPN

My iPad keeps spitting out the error: "A connection could not be established to the PPP server." I am trying to connect it to a VPN I set up with Windows 7 as an incoming connection. On the iPad, I went into the VPN settings, added a new PPTP VPN with the following information Server: Windows 7 Computer's IP RSA SecurID: OFF Account: Account Username Password: Account Password Encryption Level: Auto Send All Traffic: ON Proxy: Off Now I know that it is making some connection to the Windows 7 Computer because whenever I intentionally put in the wrong VPN password on the iPad, it makes me put in the correct one before trying to connect again. All the ports are forwarded on my router for PPTP, and my Windows 7 Firewall is even off to try to get this to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Raid 5 with 4 disks on Debian automatically creates a spare drive

I'm trying to to create a RAID 5 with 4x 2TB disks on Debian 6. Findbugs and comparing

I recently started using the findbugs static analysis tool in a java build I was doing. The first report came back with loads of High Priority warnings. Being the obsessive type of person, I was ready to go knock them all out. However, I must be missing something. I get most of the warnings when comparing things. Such as the following code: public void setSpacesPerLevel(int value) { if( value >= 0) { ... produces a high priority warning at the if statement that reads. File: Indenter.java, Line: 60, Type: BIT_AND_ZZ, Priority: High, Category: CORRECTNESS Check to see if ((...) & 0) == 0 in sample.Indenter.setSpacesPerLevel(int) I am comparing an int to an int, seems like a common thing. I get quite a few of that type of error with similar simple comparisons. I have alot of other high priority warnings on what appears to be simple code blocks. Am I missing something here? I realize that static analysis can produce false positives, but the errors I am seeing seem too trivial of a case to be a false positive. This one has me scratching my head as well. for(int spaces = 0;spaces < spacesPerLevel;spaces++){... Which gives the following findbugs warning: File: Indenter.java, Line: 160, Type: IL_INFINITE_LOOP, Priority: High, Category: CORRECTNESS There is an apparent infinite loop in sample.Indenter.indent() This loop doesn't seem to have a way to terminate (other than by perhaps throwing an exception). Any ideas? So basically I have a handful of files and 50-60 high priority warnings similar to the ones above. I am using findbugs 1.3.9 and calling it from the findbugs ant task

Ubuntu on Oracle VirtualBox: Shared folders

I looked at this question, but it didn't help. I'm running Windows 7 as a host with Ubuntu 10.10 as a guest with VBox 4.0. I want to have a shared directory between the two. I have installed Guest Additions. I went to the VBox control panel in Windows, added a Shared Folder (sharename Shared_Folder), and chose "Auto Mount". A directory named "sf_Shared_Folder" appeared in /media on Ubuntu, but when I put files in that directory from an OS, I can't see them on the other one. I then tried to create a directory without automounting (sharename collectivefiles), and to run the following command: foo@foo-VirtualBox:~$ sudo mount -t vboxsf collectivefiles FileShare /sbin/mount.vboxsf: mounting failed with the error: No such device What is causing this error? I rebooted both the VM and VBox itself, but I'm still observing this.

Cannot set audio input volume (internal microphone) on mac

On a macbook air (MacOS X 10.6.5), when doing skype calls people are complaining they hear me very low - so I had a look to the system preferences under audio and noticed the input volume was 54%. I am now trying to set the input volume to 100%. To my surprise the volume is gradually set back as I speak. I tried deselecting 'use ambient noise reduction' but it doesn't help.' Is there any way to avoid this volume auto-setting feature? Any help appreciated!

I would like to be able to enter a file name in the address bar and to see Google search results for that file name similar to what I would see if I searched for the file name using something like https://www.google.com/#q=/path/to/interesting/file I am able to disable the file scheme using either of the following policy settings: "DisabledSchemes": ["file"], Which has been deprecated in favor of: "URLBlacklist": ["file://"], But in either case Google Chrome / Chromium continues to auto-detect that a file name was entered, automatically prepends the file scheme to the file name, and then reports that the webpage is blocked.

How to move mail among Google Apps for Domains users

Considering moving the domain used by my extended family for email to Google Apps. One less server for me to manage, better spam filtering, etc. One thing that's been nice about running my own has been the way I manage my kids' incoming email - it comes to me first, and I drop good mail in a symlinked IMAP folder that we share. A little procmail is all it takes, and straight-through exceptions are easy to implement. (FYI, no I'm not advocating censorship, but manually filtering spam and viruses from my 8-year-old's inbox seems like the right thing to do. YMMV) Anyway. I'm wondering if there's an easy way to do something similar in Google Apps - setting up filters to auto-redirect to me looks easy enough (any gotchas there?), but moving things back is not obvious. Yes, I could access both accounts via IMAP and drag mails across, but does anyone have an easier way?

Centering contentplaceholders

I have a contentplaceholder which needs to be centered (as close to absolute as possible) to the center of the page. The issue I am having is when, the browser moves to different resolutions the centering is thrown off. I have tried using divs and tables. I have switched out the precent with em units, and still no workie. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Windows Task Scheduler

i am trying to deploy a auto-starting program with Administrator Priviliges on our XP-SP1-machines. For this, i am using the Windows Task Scheduler. Since most of our machines get deployed by using a PXE-imaging-system, the Task fails because the Administrator user entered is for example r126/Administrator. If i only enter Administrator then it automatically changes to machinename/Administrator. Since the machinenames are automatically changes by the imaging-system, the tasks fail run. Any ideas on how to fix that?

Using cd Command in Windows Command Line, Can't Navigate to D:\

This may be a stupid question, and I think I have looked elsewhere to find the answer... Might be a path issue, but when I open the command line and type from the C:\>: cd D:\ I cannot get to the D drive. Even if I type: cd D:\<folder name> The command.exe will auto-complete the line with the tab key, so it knows where I'm at. It just doesn't print to screen the result or actually get me there. This problem exists for the network drives as well. Now, if I use the chdir (cd) command like this: chdir D: or cd d: I get the print out of the D:\ below the command but it still says I'm in the C:\. I feel like I'm missing something simple.

Using ms: xpath functions inside XPathExpression

I am trying to use Microsoft XPath Extension Functions (such as ms:string-compare http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms256114.aspx) inside an XPathExpression object. It works ok like that, but the VPNs that I set use the public IP of the provider. For example if I have 5 VPNs set for ISP1 (WAN1) and the balancer sends the request trough WAN2 it can't use any of the configured VPNs because the public IP is different. How do I deal with this problem?

Reccomendation for tuning 100's of SQL Databases

I'm running several SQL servers, each running a few hundred multi-gig databases for customers. They are all setup homogeneously as far as the schemas are concerned, however customer usages of the data differ quite a lot from database to database. What would be the best way to auto-index/profile/tune this large amount of databases? As there are at least 600 or more catalogs I cant have someone manually profile, and index as required by each databases usage patterns. I'm currently running SQL 2005 but will be moving to 2008, so solutions that work with either are fine.

Creating a Scheduled Task that runs forever on Windows XP

When I create a scheduled task, I do so via command line: schtasks.exe /Create /TN "startup-script" /TR "C:\startup.bat" /RU taskuser /RP taskpasswd /SC ONLOGON The idea is that this task run forever. The batch opens a java process that is never meant to end. I've used ONLOGON, as the machine auto-logs in as taskuser. All this works fine, for about 72 hours, after which the Duration flag kicks in and ends the process. Windows XP doesn't have the /DU flag on command line - is there an alternative method to creating a task that is meant to run from a system startup (doesn't even require logon) and runs forever, without touching a GUI?

Odd FTP ASCII/BINARY transfer behavior after migrating to a new server

I recently got a dedicated server and after migration to the new machine I started noticing problems with file transfers. My FTP client, despite being set to auto, keeps uploading php files in binary mode and the content of those files is messed up. Since I mostly upload files of different kinds it would be annoying to change from binary to ASCII every single time, beside, I never had such problems. What could be the cause of this behavior? My dedicated server runs CENTOS 6.4 and the ftp server is Pure-FTPd. I tried different FTP clients and they all have the same problem so I assume is soem misconfiguration on the server side. Thanks

LXC Container Networking

I just started to experiment with LXC containers. I was able to create a container and start it up but I cannot get dhcp to assign the container an IP address. If I assign a static address the container can ping the host IP but not outside the host IP. The host is CentOS 6.5 and the guest is Ubuntu 14.04LTS. I used the template downloaded by lxc-create -t download -n cn-01 command. If I am trying to get an IP address on the same subnet as the host I don't believe I should need the IP tables rule for masquerading but I added it anyways. Same with IP forwarding. Updating wordpress in a multi-node environment

I'm finding this very tricky in a multi node environment, with code under revision control. AKA. multiple frontends and single database. I have a deployment process that pushes a git repo to the servers, but obviously if I update Wordpress from within the admin panel, it will update the files to one FE. Then I would need to copy over the new files to the other FE nodes. Plus, whenever these changes are written when Wordpress updates on a node, it writes code into the git repo. As such, it then breaks the auto deploys that perform 'git pulls', as it then has untracked changes and refuses to pull in new deploys unless manually intervened. How does one easily keep Wordpress updated in a multi node (load balanced) environment?

Limit WSUS replication to only certain product classifications

I have four WSUS 3.0 SP2 servers that are geographically distributed. The server at our main site (we'll call it WSUS1), is the main WSUS server. All manual and auto-approvals happen here. The other three WSUS servers are replicas of this server. Currently, we are only controlling desktop OS updates through WSUS. I would like to control server OS updates through WSUS as well. There is no need for all of these server updates to be on WSUS servers at the remote sites. The only server that would need a copy of them is WSUS1. Is there a way to keep my current infrastructure as-is and add server OS updates only to WSUS1, even though the others are set up as replicas, or will I need to configure an additional WSUS server that's not replicated?

Clustering with Vsphere and Apache load balacing

I was looking at Vsphere to automatically load balance my apache web servers, and mysql servers but will this actually do the job? I know it says it does auto load balancing but not actually sure it quite means what I want to achieve. Is there an easier way to set up a php-apache and mysql cluster within virtual machines? Or are there any guides to clustering? (I have tried googling without much luck) Any help towards understanding/setting up clustering and load balancing within virtual machines appreciated.

Responsive logo (image replacement) in html5boilerplate

I'm using the responsive version of html5 boilerplate via initializr.com. My site uses a custom logo so i added the .ir class to h1 .ir { background-color: transparent; border: 0; overflow: hidden; *text-indent: -9999px; } like this <h1 class="title ir">h1.title</h1> The documentation says Add the .ir class to any element you are applying image-replacement to. When replacing an element's content with an image, make sure to also set a specific background-image: url(pathtoimage.png);, width, and height so that your replacement image appears. So I added to the code these lines .ir { background-image: url(http://i.imgur.com/yYnyJ.jpg); background-size: 100% auto; width:450px; height:450px } The problem are the specific width and height. I'm trying to convert some Xaml to HTML using the .NET XslCompiledTransform and am running into difficulties getting the xslt to match Xaml tags. For instance with this Xaml input: <FlowDocument PagePadding="5,0,5,0" AllowDrop="True" NumberSubstitution.CultureSource="User" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"> <Paragraph>a</Paragraph> </FlowDocument> And this xslt: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:msxsl="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xslt" exclude-result-prefixes="msxsl" > <xsl:output method="html" indent="yes"/> <xsl:template match="/"> <html> <body> <xsl:apply-templates /> </body> </html> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="FlowDocument"> <xsl:apply-templates /> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="Paragraph" > <p> <xsl:apply-templates /> </p> </xsl:template> I get this output: <html> <body> a </body> </html> Rather than the expected: <html> <body> <p>a</p> </body> </html> Could this be a problem with the namespace? This is my first attempt at an xsl transform, so I'm at a loss.

Win XP cannot connect (or see) my wifi network, but can see others

since yesterday I have a strange wifi problem with my pc. I have a wireless linksys router setup that worked fine for many months, now since yesterday my pc won't connect to the wifi signal anymore. The strange thing is, my macbook pro still connects fine. SSID is broadcasting, but my windows XP doens't see it, I have all signal modes set to "auto". Windows XP sees all my neighbours wifi networks, so the wifi card isn't broken or anything. Any idea what can be wrong here?

Automatically reboot Windows8 if no internet activity

I have a media server located in a very inconvenient part of my house. Occasionally I will have to reset my router or it will reset itself. The issue is the PC loses connectivity for some reason, and I am forced to walk outside, around the house, into the basement, over a bunch of toys and weights and boxes, to push a button to reboot it. I would love to have it check itself every 5-10 minutes and auto reboot if it is unable to ping a given address/IP. Any ideas how to accomplish this?
