  • How does RoR's reloading content on refresh work?

    RoR allows you to, as long as the env is development, change parts of the your application code and then just refresh the browser--and everything is changed, without having to restart Mongrel. How does this work, and where in the Rails codebase is this done? (Or, alternatively, is there some easy way to do this with Rack+Mongrel?) Thanks so much.

  • How to check if returning View is of type PartialViewResult or a ViewUserControl

    In the method FindView() I have to somehow check if the View we are requesting is a ViewUserControl. Because otherwise I get an error saying: "A master name cannot be specified when the view is a ViewUserControl." To my knowledge there is no way to provide RouteValueDictionary to RenderPartial() like the way you can to RenderAction().

  • Control JSON Serialization format of a custom type in .NET

    I have a PhoneNumber class that stores a normalized string, and I've defined implicit operators for string <- Phone to simplify treatment of the PhoneNumber as a string. I've also overridden the ToString() method to always return the cleaned version of the number (no hyphens or parentheses or spaces). In any MVC.NET code where I explicitly display the number, I can explicitly call phone.Format(). The problem here is serializing an entity that has a PhoneNumber to JSON; JavaScriptSerializer serializes it as [object Object]. I want to serialize it as a string in (555)555-5555 format. I've looked at writing a custom JavaScriptConverter, but JavaScriptConverter.Serialize() method returns a dictionary of name-value pairs. I don't want PhoneNumber to be treated as an object with fields, I want to simply serialize it as a string.

    Hi, I am trying to access Folder from Document Library using web services in C#. I am using SiteData's EnumerateFolder() method to get sub folders and files. But the method gives me only 3 properties for each entry. IsFolder Url Last modified date So how can we get 'Modified By' field value. Or there is another solution for enumerating folders and subfolders. Thanks.

In this I am storing the friends of a user in the form of CSV as shown below in the user table uid user_name friends 1 John 2 2 Jack 3,1 3 Gary 2,4 4 Joey 3 In the above scenario if the logged in user is John and if he visits the profile page of Joey, the connection between them should appear as John-Jack-Gary-Joey I am able to establish the connection at level 1 i.e If Jack visits Joey's profile I am able to establish the following : Jack-Gary-Joey But for the 2nd level I need to get into the same routine of for loops which I know is not the right solution + I am not able to implement that as well. So, can someone please help me with this? Thanks in Advance, Akash P:S I am not in a position to change the db architecture :(

I load an external xml file containing user metas looking like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <user_information> <user url="http://usersweb.com"> <name>Arnold</name> <lastname> <name>Arnoldson</name> </lastname> <age>42</age> </user> <user url="http://anotheruserweb.com"> <name>Arnold</name> <lastname> <name>Arichson</name> </lastname> <age>42</age> </user> And so on.... </user_information> I know the formatting with <lastname> is really stupid, but i can't modify the source. I want to load in the "url"-attribute from <user> , but only if <name> and <lastname> matches the name values i have stored in my own user database. I know how to parse the rest of it with PHP, but just the matching sequence seems difficult to me. Any help appreciated!

    I have been looking for a way to define an autoincrement data type in Oracle and have found these questions on Stack Overflow: Autoincrement in Oracle Autoincrement Primary key in Oracle database The way to use autoincrement types consists in defining a sequence and a trigger to make insertion transparent, where the insertion trigger looks so: create trigger mytable_trg before insert on mytable for each row when (new.id is null) begin select myseq.nextval into :new.id from dual; end; I have some doubts about the behaviour of this trigger: What does this trigger do when the supplied value of "id" is different from NULL? What does the colon before "new" mean? I want the trigger to insert the new row with the next value of the sequence as ID whatever the supplied value of "new.id" is. I imagine that the WHEN statement makes the trigger to only insert the new row if the supplied ID is NULL (and it will not insert, or will fail, otherwise). Could I just remove the WHEN statement in order for the trigger to always insert using the next value of the sequence?

    I'm attempting to upload a file into a jsp and then use the file in some other code. My problem is that it comes into the servlet as an Object via the request.getAttribute() call so I don't know what to cast it to. I have this code so far to try and test what it is but I'm getting a NullPointerException. PrintWriter out = response.getWriter(); out.println(request.getAttribute("file1").getClass()); Is my understanding of whats going on flawed or am I just coding it up wrong?

  • Good grammar for date data type for recursive descent parser LL(1)

    I'm building a custom expression parser and evaluator for production enviroment to provide a limited DSL to the users. The parser itself as the DSL, need to be simple. The parser is going to be built in an exotic language that doesn't support dynamic expression parsing nor has any parser generator tools available. My decision is to go for recursive descent approach with LL(1) grammar, so that even programmers with no previous experience in evaluating expression could quickly learn how the code works. It has to handle mixed expressions made up of several data types: decimals, percentages, strings and dates. And dates in the format of dd/mm/yyyy are easy to confuse with a string of devision ops. Is where a good solution to this problem? My own solution that is aimed at keeping the parser simple involves prefixing dates with a special symbol, let's say apostrophe: <date> ::= <apostr><digit><digit>/<digit><digit>/<digit><digit><digit><digit> <apostr> ::= ' <digit> ::= '0'..'9'

    I'm evaluating JasperReport and iReport, a requirement is the possibility to produce a multiple page report in which every page contains a different report. Example: Page 1 contains an actual invoice for a customer Page 2 contains the invoices list for the customer Page 3 contains a graph of amount of invoices by year Page 4 contains only fixed text (say operator instructions ...) Is it possible to create such a unique report instead of creating four standalone report and then merge the pdfs. Thank a lot. Francesco

    Hi, I am adding Apache Lucene support to Querydsl (which offers type-safe queries for Java) and I am having problems understanding how Lucene evaluates queries especially regarding negation in nested queries. Specifically, I'm displaying three phone numbers per line and the user needs to be able to select one of those numbers, from any row, but not the whole row. While similar to this, I am displaying the DataGrid to the user. The answer for that question was to manipulate the dataProvider, how can I know what cell I've selected in order to do that?
