  • ubuntu 10.04 logs itself out overnight

    Every night when I leave work, I lock the screen via ubuntu's "power" button in the top right hand panel. When I come to work in the morning, I'm greeted with the log-in screen. This doesn't happen every night, but most. I'm running ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell inspiron. I've included some HW specs, and also dmesg output. Please let me know what other logs may be useful. thanks!     I am trying to equal something from last command with bash if statement: #!/bin/bash monit status if [ "status" != "error" ]; then echo -e "hostname\ttest\t0\t0" | /usr/sbin/send_nsca -H hostname -c /etc/send_nsca.cfg exit 1; fi Even if the monit status gives out status = online with all services it runs the echo command. I can not figure out how to make the if statement match the status of monit status output.

  • Apache MaxClients doubt

    I have a busy Apache server serving only dynamic PHP+MySQL pages. It is a prefork Apache, version 2.2.4 with following config: KeepAlive off StartServers 8 MinSpareServers 32 MaxSpareServers 64 ServerLimit 512 MaxClients 512 MaxRequestsPerChild 4000 MaxClients/ServerLimit used to be set to 256, but I got the following error in error_log so I increased it: [error] server reached MaxClients setting, consider raising the MaxClients setting It seems to work now, but I have a doubt. Looking at MySQL log of queries, I have a couple hundred clients per seconds, but "ps ax" only shows 8, 9 or 10 processes running: [root@engine ~]# ps ax | grep http | wc -l 10 I even got this many processes when the above error message was shown in error_log. This made me investigate further.     I have a apache server that sits in front of my glassfish server. mydomain.com goes directly to my static files on apache, than if you hit the subdomain forum.mydomain.com it goes to the glassfish webapp forum/ at 127.0.0.1:8080/forum/. This proxy seems to work it takes me to the web app but all of the images are missing! Here is how I go my virtual host setup.   • apache using mod_auth_kerb always asks for the password twice

    (Debian Squeeze) I'm trying to set apache up to use Kerberos authentication to allow AD users to log in. It is working, but prompts the user twice for a username and password, with the first time being ignored (no matter what is put it in.) Only the second prompt includes the AuthName string from the config (i.e.: the first windows is a generic username/password one, the second includes the title "Kerberos Login") I'm not worried about integrated windows authentication working at this stage, I just want users to be able to login with their AD account so we don't need to set up a second repository of user accounts. How do I fix this to eliminate that first useless prompt?   • Office documents on intranet all requiring second login and can't pass auth? Disable webdav?

    I am not sure what is going on, but recently all the Office documents on our intranet get prompted a second time for login and according to the error logs it looks like it's trying to use webdav to open (an editable?) version of the document to save directly on the server? We have no sharepoint server setup or anything, but this shouldn't be happening. All I want is for the document to be saved or opened from a local copy in temp like normal. Edit: I should clarify behavior, it asks if you want to save or open it, upon choosing open open, it asks to re-authenicate, you put in the user information and the login box comes up 3 times acting like you entered the wrong password. For some users, after passing the login box the third time, it still opens up, for others their browser just locks up. Things I tried already: I googled and found a Ubuntu bug with apparmor (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.5/+bug/970366), I changed apparmor from enforce mode to complain mode: sudo apt-get install apparmor-utils sudo aa-complain /usr/sbin/mysqld sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor reload but it didn't help. I still can't start mysql. I also thought the issue may be because the InnoDB logfiles were a different size than mysql was expecting. I removed the innodb log files before restarting using: sudo mv /var/lib/mysql/ib_logfile* /tmp. No luck though. Workaround: I re-installed 12.04, made sure not to touch /etc/mysql/my.cnf in any way. Mysql is working so I can get on with what I need to do. But I will need to edit it at some point - Hopefully I'll have figured out a solution, or this question will have been answered by that point...

I still got the same error. I also tried installing some things from the ubuntu software center. Funny thing is, that worked fine and I was able to successfully download and install software from the software center, so it seems that only update manager can't access the repositories. I have searched for and found similar cases (relating to ubuntu 12.10), but most of those cases involved ppa's, and I don't use any ppa's. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Completely unable to install python2.7-dev

    Am totally stuck! Am unable completely to install python2.7-dev on my Ubuntu13.04. I have tried all the tricks mentioned on this site (askubuntu.com) and many other sites on the web but still nothing! Am running Ubuntu 13.04 64bit on a virtualbox, but every time I run sudo apt-get install python2.7-dev, I get the following error; python2.7-dev : Depends: python2.7 (= 2.7.3-0ubuntu3.5) but 2.7.4-2ubuntu3 is to be installed Depends: libpython2.7 (= 2.7.3-0ubuntu3.5) but 2.7.4-2ubuntu3 is to be installed Depends: libexpat1-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libssl-dev but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. I've tried to do apt-get update, but still nothing! I've even tried installing Python2.7 from sources, but still nothing doing!   • WCF REST Error Handler

    I’ve put up on GitHub a sample WCF error handler for REST services, which returns proper HTTP status codes in response to service errors.   The code is very simple – a ServiceBehavior implementation which can be specified in config to tag the RestErrorHandler to a service. Any uncaught exceptions will be routed to the error handler, which sets the HTTP status code and description in the response, based on the type of exception.   The sample defines a ClientException which can be thrown in code to indicate a problem with the client’s request, and the response will be a status 400 with a friendly error message:       throw new ClientException("Invalid userId. Must be provided as a positive integer");   - responds:   Request URL http://localhost/Sixeyed.WcfRestErrorHandler.Sample/ErrorProneService.svc/lastLogin?userId=xyz   Error Status Code: 400, Description: Invalid userId. Must be provided as a positive integer   Any other uncaught exceptions are hidden from the client. The full details are logged with a GUID to identify the error, and the response to the client is a status 500 with a generic message giving them the GUID to follow up on:       var iUserId = 0;     var dbz = 1 / iUserId;   - logs the divide-by-zero error and responds:   Request URL http://localhost/Sixeyed.WcfRestErrorHandler.Sample/ErrorProneService.svc/dbz     Error Status Code: 500, Description: Something has gone wrong. Please contact our support team with helpdesk ID: C9C5A968-4AEA-48C7-B90A-DEC986F80DA5   The sample demonstrates two techniques for building the response. For client exceptions, a friendly HTML response is sent in the body as well as the status code and description. Personally I prefer not to do that – it doesn’t make sense to get a 400 error and find text/html when you’re expecting application/json, but it’s easy to do if that’s the functionality you want. The other option is to send an empty response, which the sample does with server exceptions.   The obvious extension is to have multiple exceptions representing all the status codes you want to provide, then your code is as simple as throwing the relevant exception – UnauthorizedException, ForbiddenExeption, NotImplementedException etc – anywhere in the stack, and it will be handled nicely.
