• Extract a C/C++ header file from a C# class exposed to COM

  I'm not sure I've setup everything I've needed to in my C# class to properly, but it does work in COM. I've been looking for an example of a C# class that was successfully used in a C/C++ project, but haven't come across anything. I've tried using the OLE/COM Object View app to open the .tlb file and save as .h, but it gives some errors: MIDL1009: unknown argument ignored; MIDL1001: cannot open input file Studio "Studio" isn't the name of the file, it's Syslog, so that raises a red flag to me. Any ideas?

  Ok, so the title may trick you a bit, and I'm sorry for that but didn't find a better title. This question might be a bit hard to understand so I'll try my best. I have no idea how this works or if it is even possible but what I want to do is for example create a file type (lets imagine .test (in which a random file name would be random.test)). Now before I continue, its obviously easy to do this using for example: filename = "random.test" file = open(filename, 'w') file.write("some text here") But now what I would like to know is if it is possible to write the file .test so if I set it to open with a wxPython program, it recognizes it and for example opens up a Message Dialog automatically. I'm sorry if I'm being vague and in case you don't understand, let me know so I can try my best to explain you.

• How to open different App version for one given file extension

  We have a data files with an extension ".ppx" for our business app here. Users will typically have multiple versions of the application installed (side by side) for example version 1 and version 2. The ppx files are xml files and they contain the version of the app they were created from (v1 or v2). Lets say that we have AFileCreatedWithAppv1.ppx and AFileCreatedWithAppv2.ppx opens with version 1 or version 2 of our app respectivly when they both have the same file extension? It must be doable since that is what Visual Studio does. In fact, they even provide different icons for the same .sln extension to indicate what Visual Studio version it will open with. I learned that Visual Studio is using the Selector or Launcher in between, but then again, how do they change the icons in Windows? cheers :)

• XCode File Browsing doesn't open files!

  Previously when I browsed source code files using Xcode's file browser (located on left side), clicking on a source file would open it in the right window. I must've accidentally changed some setting that stops this behavior -- now single clicking on any file doesn't do anything at all. I'd really like it to go back to the old behavior of opening the file. Any ideas? This behavior is driving me crazy. To open a source file I have to double-click and open in a separate window.

• VS2008: Disable asking whether to reload files changed outside the IDE

  Hi, I have a Visual Studio 2008 project where some code files are generated with each build (a parser, integrated via MSBuild aka editing the *.csproj file). VS does not know about the generated nature of these files (i.e. they are not the result of a "Custom Tool). So they "change" with every build, naturally. And VS2008 asks me after every build if I would like to reload those files: This file has been modified outside the source Do you want to reload it? That would be ok if I had one of those files opened and in front of me, but I get these modal dialogs even with none of the code files opened. So my question is: Is there a way to disable this dialog, per project, per solution or globally? Thanks!

• Dragging Files on the Dock Icon

  I know how handle dragging of files on the dock icon, and it has been asked before. However, I'm wondering, can I somehow get more control? For example, can I make the dock icon reject files that are not in the user's folder and allow only files that are in the user's folder? I'd rather do that instead of the app appearing as if it handles files outside the user's folder, and then within the app delegate afterwards reject the files by detecting the file paths. That doesn't seem good from a user's perspective.

  We're creating an ASP.Net MVC site that will need to store 1 million+ pictures, all around 2k-5k in size. From previous ressearch, it looks like a file server is probably better than a db (feel free to comment otherwise). Is there anything special to consider when storing this many files? Are there any issues with Windows being able to find the photo quickly if there are so many files in one folder? Does a segmented directory structure need to be created, for example dividing them up by filename? It would be nice if the solution would scale to at least 10 million pictures for potential future expansion needs.

  Hi all, I'm trying to transfer large file(1Gb+) using UDP(in packets) through air application. I'm transfering byteArray by taking chunks of packets from FileStream. But its giving 'Error #1000: The system is out of memory' at sender side after certain number of packets sent and by this time the downloaded file size at server side is 256 MB. I tried with other files but after downloading 256MB, sender is giving the same error. Is it because of the file stream size? How can I solve this problem so that I can transfer files of GB size.

This way, I am sure that I always close the connection to the database, but on the other hand, I don't like to always open and close connection.   I am having a problem accessing a mapped drive in ColdFusion. I have \\server\files\sharing mapped to z:\.   Hi I'm working in gvim with sessions and tabs, and everything works great. However there is something that is bothering me. Say I have two files open: /A/B/foo.ext and /C/D/E/bar.ext, the latter being opened last. Now say I want to open /A/B/foobar.ext. I have to go through the hassle of navigating upwards to / and from there to /A/B. I would like to simply change my active tab to /A/B/foo.ext and have gvim automatically change its active directory to /A/B/, so that when I want to open /A/B/foobar.ext with /A/B/foo.ext being active, I'm already in the right CWD. This would be very time-saving if you work with two different projects at a time and need to switch back and forth between the two. Is there any such script that does just that? Thanks.

Also, I'd like to be able to have a on-hand searchable reference to all of that source code so that I can pull up reference to structures and snippets. Does anyone know of a way to use the Kindle for this? Has anyone tried? What were your findings? Additionally, does anyone know of a website that indexes all open source source code?

  Background: I've a folder that gets pumped with files continuously. My SSIS package needs to process the files and delete them. The SSIS package is scheduled to run once every minute. I'm picking up the files in ascending order of file creation time. I'm building an array of files and then processing-deleting them one at a time. Problem: If an instance of my package takes longer than one minute to run, the next instance of the SSIS package will pick up some of the files the previous instance has in its buffer. By the time the second instance of teh package gets around to processing a file, it may already have been deleted by the first instance, creating an exception condition. I was wondering whether there was a way to avoid the exception condition. Thanks.

• iPhone / NSArray : How do I format a text file to be read in using arrayWithContentsOfFile

  I have several large word lists and I had been loading them in place in the code as follows: NSArray *dict3 = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:@"abled",@"about",@"above",@"absurd",@"absurdity", ... but now it is actually causing an exc_bad_access error weirdly, i know it seems implausible but for some reason IT IS causing it. (trust me on this I just spend the better part of a day debugging this crap) Anyway, I'm looking to get these humongous lines of code out of my files but I'm not sure what the best approach is. I guess I could do a plist but I need to figure out how to automate the process. it be easiest if I could just use the text files I've been compiling so if anyone knows how I can format the text file so that the myArray = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile: @"myTextFile.txt"]; will be read in correctly as one word per element in the array it would really be appreciated.   Is it possible to setup HSQLDB in a way, so that the files with the db information are written into memory instead of using actual files? I want to use hsqldb to export some data structures together with hibernate mappings. Is is, however, not possible to write temporary files, so that I need to generate the files in-memory and return a stream with their contents as a response. Setting hsqldb to use nio seems not to be a solution, because there is no way to get hold of those files before they get written onto the filesystem. What I'm thinking of is a protocol handler for hsqldb, but I didn't find a suitable solution yet. Just to describe in other words: A hack solution would be to pass hsqldb a stream or several streams. It would then during its operation write data into those streams. After all data is written, the user of the db could then use those streams to send it back over the network.

• Why is Window.open()'s return type void ?

  Doing something like this is perfectly permissible in javascript: var newWindow = window.open(...) However, this does not work in the senario of GWT (I am using 1.5 I dont know about later versions), Window window = Window.open("", "", ""); Throws me a compile time error that the open is a method with a return type as void. Why should it be void ? What if i want to close my popup from the main Window ? how do I get its handle ? I will have to resort to native javascript no doubt but i was just curious so as to why this is so...

• Zip up groups of webpages for viewing in the browser

  I think there should be a standard for saving and viewing bunches of webpages as a website. For instance, say I have a whole bunch of pages, such as I get from the WordPress plugin "Really Static" (which saves the entire site), and I have all the links start with a slash (to make linking to supporting files easier). Now, I can't really use those links if I am reading it from the file system. If there would be a standard where we could zip up files, give them a unique extension (like "hzip" for html zip), and open the file with any browser, which would display it as though the root of that file were the root of the pages. "file://examplefile.hzip/" The links would then all work. This would really help sharing and copying groups of webpages. Is this a good idea? A bad one? What do you think?

• Vb6 project files and source safe

  A part of the application that I am working on is a legacy Vb6 Windows forms application. All the files in the project are under source control (VSS) except the Vb6 project file. From what I can establish from the other developers working on the project the reason for this is that the com components used in the projects have different references on each developers machine. I want to move the project files into VSS so that when files are added to the project these can be updated in the project files and other developers (and more importantly an automated build script) can get the latest project files from source safe. Does anyone know if/how I can achieve this in such a way as to not corrupt the references to other com components on different development machines?

So when I want to load a.hpp I do : :tabnew include/library/a.hpp or: :tabnew **/a.hpp I'd like to map <F4> to open the file under the cursor in a new tab, using a recursive search. I tried the following mapping command: :map <F4> :tabnew **/expand("<cfile>")<cr> But obviously, this can't work, as it tries to open the file "/expand(" instead. Any clue on how I could do that ?   How can I tell if a file is binary (non-text) in python? I am searching through a large set of files in python, and keep getting matches in binary files. This makes the output look incredibly messy. I know I could use grep -I, but I am doing more with the data than what grep allows for. In the past I would have just searched for characters greater than 0x7f, but utf8 and the like make that impossible on modern systems. Ideally the solution would be fast, but any solution will do.

Often, I find good libraries, but the only documentation is in the code, making it much harder to work with. A general overview, example usage, a tutorial, and basic project layout / goals seem to be a few popular options. However, if it's a single-developer project and just starting out, the luxury of writing all that isn't there. Which is the best advice for starting documentation of a project?
