  Hi, all. Does anyone know of a device that can be plugged into a telephone handset that will display the value of any telephone keys pressed by someone on the other end?   ok i am a complete n00b when it comes to telephony ... i was wondering we are beginning to play with exchange 2010 in the office ... How can i connect a telephone line into the server? so we can ring in and get our emails via phone (we have a spare direct line) I'm going to guess it's not as easy as sticking a 56k modem into the server?   What's the best terminal editor to suggest to a unix newbie? i.e. not vim or emacs. There are a few editors, joe, nano, etc. Some have easy to remember commands / keyboard shortcuts, others don't. I'm looking for an editor that one could talk someone through over the phone with, for remote sysadminning.

• Smartphone Emulator for checking emails are readable

  Is there an emulator that would enable me to test the appearance of an email as it is being read on a smartphone (without specifying the phone type)? What I would like to be able to do, is to send an email to this emulator, and then scroll down through the email using the emulator. Ive searched online, and any emulators I found are for testing software rather than exploring the visual appearance of email. I'm using Mac OSX - thanks in advance.

• Linux Teamviewer functionality, but for ssh only

  I need to access some Linux server behind NAT (no ports forwarded), so I need to have something like "phone home" like Teamviewer has. There is no GUI, but somebody can log in through SSH and dictate a password if it is changing (like Teamviewer). SSH (port 22) is enough (I can tunnel ports through SSH if I need). Any suggestions? How safe is it?

• Connecting mother board, power supply, and tower

  I am working on putting together a desktop for the first time and and ran into a problem, I am not sure how to connect the fans that came in my tower, my power supply, and connect them all to the mother board. Tower Mobo Power Supply There are 3 fans in the tower, each have 3 pin male and female connector that come connected, and 4 pin (larger?) male and female connector which are hanging. How would I go about connecting The fans together then to the power supply and mobo so it is easiest control (or suggest me a smart / better option). Pictures are from fans on HAF 922 Tower. Thanks

• TightVNC (or any VNC) viewer windows scaling

  Hi, I am currently using TightVNC to connect to multiple remote hosts in LAN. I start 16 VNC viewers, set Scaling by: Auto (in connection options display), and then select all viewer windows and use Tile Horizontally, which covers my entire screen with VNC viewers. It all works sort of nice, except that desktop interaction is really slow when there are more then 4 VNC viewers. My question is, does VNC client (not just TightVNC, but any compatible client) support some kind of smart scaling option, so that client tells server something along the lines of: "Okay, I'm displaying your entire screen in a window size 300x225 px, so can you please start sending encoded images on that resolution?", at which point interactiveness of open connections dramatically increase, and when I decide to go full screen on some connection, client and server re-negotiate and server starts sending full resolution images again? • Preprocessing incoming mail with fetchmail/procmail/mutt

  I use fetchmail-procmail-mutt programms to all my mail. Some of mail generated automatically and some people not smart enough, so I would like to reformat mail body with some script. My best guess is that I should do it with procmail. But I found no such rule, best thing I found is possibility to pipe mail to programm. Of course, I can resend it with flag that no futher formatting needed, but it does not look like right solution. EDIT: Just discovered maildrop. Maybe, it is simpler to do my task with it?

• Sending a Fax without a fax number

  I have an HP Officejet 8600 Pro that has faxing capabilities. However I do not send faxes often and I do not need to pay for a dedicated fax number/line. Is there a way to send and receive faxes using the built in wifi without a fax number from the HP? I have seen online services that allow this from the PC, is that the only way to do this? I am using Windows 7 for my OS. EDIT I do not use a regular phone line.

• Issue in connecting Pro9000 camera directly with OMAP3530

  I have a video phone application running on an OMAP3530 board. The problem is when I connect the camera (Pro 9000) through a powered USB hub (In:100-240V, Out:5V,1A) everything works fine when I make a video call. But if I connect the camera directly to the OMAP3530 board and try to make a video call, the OMAP board is not sending any video packets captured locally. And also the PIP (Picture In Picture) is disabled.

• Video/Animated GIF advanced frame editor?

  What sort of application could I use for example if I had a 5 minute video or an animated GIF with 50 frames, and I wanted to basically Photoshop replace an object, say a person's head, with another image for all those 50 frames? Is there some sort of smart tool that can do this or do I have to edit every single frame by hand? I wouldn't mind there being a tool where I can paste the image in every frame automatically, and switch from frame to frame adjusting the position of it, I just need something efficient. I've tried using Photoshop's import video into image sequence and tried editing with the animation toolbar at the bottom, but it's not quite what I want. I don't care if it's free software or not, I'm primarily using Linux but I have VirtualBox Windows XP if there's an excellent application that's not available otherwise.

• Website deployment - managing uploaded content?

  I'm a programmer by trade, "server administrator" by company necessity. We're looking at dumping the old painful "update site by FTP upload" style of deployment. Having the webserver check out the latest code base from version control into a folder and having a "current" symlink point to the latest checkout (allowing for easily stepping back to an older version by changing the symlink) seems to be the way we want to go. But I have a question: what's a good practice for dealing with user-uploaded content? This stuff isn't in version control. I have a couple of ideas for dealing with this, but what is the smart, accepted practice?

• I disconnected my cellphone while transferring files to its Mini SD card. Now the files aren't there

  I use Ubuntu 9.10, and the MiniSD card shows as having the space used as if there were files. Baobab (the disk usage analyzer) shows that the card only has 118 MB used (of the 401 Ubuntu claims there are). Of course, I already tried the obvious (rebooting the phone, adding and removing files, etc.), but I don't want to format my card, because I still have some files on it, the transfer to my computer is slow, and because I use an old wire it fails often.

• HP Server bios boot delay

  I'm just going to throw this out there in case anyone else has run accross this... I have an HP DL320 G5p that had the motherboard replaced due to a faulty NIC port. After several calls to HP, two motherboard replacements, PCI riser card replacements, Processor replacement, and power supply replacement, the server takes approx. 10 minutes before it boots into the BIOS. It then boots up with no issues. We've run the HP smart start cd and performed the system tests and everything passed. All firmware has also been upgraded to the latest as well. Has anyone else seen this and found a fix? I am still working with HP, but there seems to be a struggle on their part to figure this out, so I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this and found a fix - thanks...

• Join .doc files into one .doc (with keeping the original format of every document)

  I have about ~50 .doc files, that look perfect (they are extracted with Able2Extract). Now I want to join these 50 files into one huge .doc. I've tried using Word's in-built "Insert" feature, but that messed up the whole format. I want to keep everything I have. Like just document1 - document2 - document3. Nothing "intelligent" or "smart" needed during the conversion, just the capability of joining them. (Thus making them all searchable, that's the ultimate aim.) I don't mind if the method/solution applies a single blank page at every document end either.
