Total commander is an awsome tool, but I'm looking for something freeware.
I've tried muCommander, and I just don't like it. Are there any other good similiar programs, preferably freeware?
Is there a tool/service that would allow 2 developers to browse the web on separate machines and have dev 1 control dev 2s session and the opposite, without the need for a hardcore remote access like terminal services.
Im thinking etherpad for web browsing
Is there a tool that let's you tag things, so that you can find or organize stuff easily?
I have a bunch of folders containing zip and rar files. Most of the zip and rar files contain photos. Is there a software in Windows 7 that let's you organize those folder and tag them, so when you're looking for a specific file it can be search or be found in tags?
Thanks!
I want Firefox to redirect bad and broken links to Google search instead of the "Can't find the server" page. If it takes an add-on, that's okay.
When you enter a bad or broken link in Google Chrome, the browser takes you to a search results page with all possibly relevant links to the request attempted.
Please don't suggest the search-tool-bar, I am aware of it. And it's not really significant in this scenario.
What tool or technique do you use to prevent brute force attacks against your ssh port. I noticed in my Security logs, that I have millions of attempts to login as various users through ssh.
This is on a FreeBSD box, but I imagine it would be applicable anywhere.
We're thinking about using Piwik on a production environment. Has anybody already gained some experience with that tool, what are your opinions.
Many thanks!
I need to do a one-time migration of data from SQL Server Compact Edition to SQL Server 2008 Express Edition. I'm looking for a tool to do this kind of migration.
I've tried using Import and Export Data in SQL Server, but it doesn't let me import from SQL Server Compact Edition.
Anyone knows of a easy way to do it?
Currently we use Offline NT Password & Registry Editor for machines we do not have admin passwords for. It is a really nice tool but has some flaws. Is there something better/more modern?
After cropping anything by using crop tool in Adobe Acrobat, how do I ensure that the cropped area is fixed and can't be seen even though I increase the crop margin? Thanks.
Specifically, I'm looking for something that will handle 2D diagrams, sprockets, and dimensioning.
I could probably use Inkscape, but I'd like a "proper" tool.
Googling has returned a variety of options, but I'm unsure as to how to evaluate them. Ideally, I'd like something free/open-source, but inexpensive (under $100) would be fine, too.
I'm trying to find out why my application is very slow on a certain machine (runs fine everywhere else).
I think i have traced the performance-problems to hard-disk reads and writes and i think it's simply the very slow disk.
What tool could i use to measure hd read and write performance under Windows 2003 in a non-destructive way (the partitions on the drives have to remain intact)?
Both my router and my wireless networking card support the standards 802.11a/b/g/n but as I'm only getting speeds around 30-40 Mbit/s I suspect that it's the g standard being used instead of n. Now, I'd like to verify this somehow, so my question is: Is there a way (like a network diagnistics tool or the like) to find out which standard is currently used in the communication between computer and router?
I'm trying to make an offline version of a web and I'm looking for a tool that would do the task automatically for the whole web (circa 1000 pages of HTML + images). Is there anything like that and free?
I know it is quite challenge for a program but maybe I'll be lucky :).
EDIT: It should be a program for Windows.
Thanks!
We are using CM synergy client as version control, but we find it very complicated. We are mostly biased with SVN client tool.Is there a way to configure svn at client end but maintain CM synergy @ server side. This would help us a lot ,bcos merging and conflict resolution is very simple in SVN.I do not know where to go about this solution, any initial help will be very helpful

I find NetLimiter Monitor quite handy on Windows both for the realtime per-process bandwidth monitoring and the recorded data usage.
What tool or tools can I use to replicate this functionality in Linux?
I am okay using two separate apps for the bandwidth and the usage monitoring, but the usage monitoring is a must have.
I've been looking for a while but I'd like to to implement a vpn solution for anywhere from 1-5 employees at a time (possibly 10 in a year or so)
I've looked at astaro gateway but im not sure if thats the right tool for the job.
I know "best" is a subjective term so i would like to break it into to different suggestions
1) what is the cheapest solution given the criteria above
2) what solution will result in the least amount of headaches from the point of view of maintenance and learning curve.
I have a number of Linux webservers for which I'd like to track where disk space is going and keep disk space to a minimum.
Typically I login on SSH and use du to find out where disk space is wasted but this is cumbersome and slow. A visualisation tool like KDirStat would be ideal, but it requires installing an X server at the very least, which kind of defeats the purpose.
Is there any web-based disk space visualizer? I'm open to alternative solutions.
I need to monitor on my computer amount of downloaded and uploaded data. Do you know any tool for Windows 7 x64 which would be freeware and gave me this opportunity? Du meter is perfect but it is a little bit to expensive for me. Any ideas? Help please?
I have a Win2008 server with IIS 7 and I want to duplicate one web site and just change the binding port and the application pool that is using, so I will have 2 web sites (locally or remote) with same configuration but listening on different ports.
Is there a way to do this with web deploy tool ir order to deploy locally and remotely this unique web site and change the binding ports in the destination?
Hi,
I am trying to find a way to monitor my apache server so I can see which domain is causing slow down on my server when they occur. I was hoping I would be able to do it with ApacheTop but I have to list our each log file separately as Plesk splits domains apache logs into individual files.
Is there a way I can do this with ApacheTop or should I be using another tool?
Thanks
Dell's OpenManager server admin tool can send email alerts, but the config for the SMNP server has no field to enter username/password.
Can it only make use of non-authenticated SMNP servers, or is there a way to enter username and password as part of the server name?
Looking for recommendations the best comprehensive browser based administration tool for administering a Linux machine. Ideally this would be distribution agnostic. This could also be an "appliance" type product that would administer multiple machines on network.
This is marked community wiki. Give your answer preferably one product per answer and vote up packages that you recommend also.
Hi, I've got an Access database from one of our clients and want to import this data into a new MSSQL Server 2008 database structure I designed. It's similar to the Access Database (including all the rows and so on) but I normalized the entire database.
Is there any tool (microsoft tools preferred) to map the old database to my new design?
thanks
I've just installed a new Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 and it's X/Y calibration/alignment seems to be off.
If I move the mouse from left to right, the cursor will go up and down slightly. If I move the mouse from top to bottom, the cursor will also move from left to right slightly too.
I seem to remember in earlier version of Windows or Intelli Point, there was a calibration tool which would fix this issue.
Can anyone help?
Many Thanks
Stephen
