• Using symbolic link in Windows XP

  Junction is a good symbolic link tool in XP. However, it's not so easy to use at first moment, ie. only can use command line interface; move/rename target file/folder; got to use 'junction -d ' to delete link, don't allow delete in explore, but it's hard to distinguish if it's a symbolic link. Is there any guides for how to use junction in XP like what to do and not to do?

• Cloning Windows 7 to Another Machine

  I am trying to clone a Windows 7 Install from one machine to others, in a computer lab situation. I have used clonezilla to make an image of the machine's harddrive and then attempted to write that image to a second machine's disk. Everything went fine, but when I try to boot Windows 7 on the second machine I get a blue screen flash and then it tries to run the startup repair tool, which runs unsuccessfully. Is there something new with Windows 7 that keeps it from being cloned like this?

  Windows Server 2008 R2 DFS Replication Is it possible to see which specific files are replicating in real time using a GUI or command line tool or in a log somewhere? I didn't see this in the DFS health reporting, in the DFS event viewer, or the DFS log. The log is pretty cryptic though so it may be in there and I'm unable to see it. I searched through the DFS log for paths and files I know should be replicating and they're not in there.

  Is there an option or tool that will allow me to change the default naming convention for files copied into the same directory in Windows (XP) and above. e.g. from: Copy of {name}.{ext} to: {name}.{ext}.copy Currently: original_file.php Copy of original_file.php Desired: original_file.php original_file.php.copy This would make finding/working with duplicated files much easier (they auto-sort together) and the filetype (by extension) changes thus it can't accidentally "break" something (e.g. if it were a *.java file, upon compiling I would get errors)

  I'm wondering if there's any tools (preferably offline) that would allow me to layout all of the new equipment that will be going into several standard racks. Currently I'm using Excel to map out all of the slots columns for the data but I suspect that there is some better method of doing this. Suggestions? Edit: Dell has an online tool, but doesn't seem very good at actually saving the data that you're working on (and obviously it's geared towards Dell hardware).

• Losing connection when watching flash videos

  Whenever I play a flash video on my browser (whichever I use, Chrome, Firefox or IE), there's a risk that I lose my Internet connection. I know it's limited to my computer only as my roommates are unaffected. I'm the only one that loses connection. Using Internet Explorer's diagnosis tool always repairs the connection, but it's annoying as hell. My OS is Windows XP, if that matters. Anyone knows what may be causing this and how to fix it?

• How to compare mp3, flac audio data in a file, ignoring header data (ID3 tag) etc.?

  I've backed up some audio files up in 2 places and added ID3 tags into one backup but not the other, since time has passed my own memory has faded on whether the backups are actually the same, but now one has ID3 data and the other doesn't, basic binary compare will fail and inspection will be cumbersome. • port is not open in torrent client even though it was forwarded

  I have a problem with port forwarding with my torrent, port check tool says that it open, the firewall exception as well. But with the test by the client not say so. I don't know why.   My iPhone 3GS doesn´t show up in the Scanners and Cameras tool when I connect it via USB to Windows XP. Nor does the Camera Wizard pop up. How do I make Windows XP detect the device as a Camera? I currently have no way of downloading photos from the iPhone to my computer. iTunes does recognize the device, but it doesn't offer a way to synchronize photos. Thanks for your help.

  I googled this and tried some solutions, but nothing seems to work. In the past, Hibernate worked fine. Someone told me that this can be caused by specific hardware, and I have lots of that, because this is a dev machine which we use to develop modules that interact with lots of different hardware. Moreover, this machine also uses RAID, which might have something to do. Is there any way to troubleshoot this by looking at some log file or using some tool?

  I need a tool to automatically backup my Drupal installations from my server to my laptop. In other terms, I need to copy 1 folder (all my Drupals are inside this folder) and all databases. • traffic shaping with "netem delay" works ok, but limits upload bandwidth to 330KB/s. Why?

  I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 and the kernel 2.6 build-in NETEM tool to delay traffic. After I apply: tc qdisc add dev eth0 root netem delay 100ms The upload bandwidth can't go further than 330KB/s and I have a 100Mbit connection. How can I fix this so that my upload bandwidth is still full. Thanks!
