  • .net VS2008 compilation analyzer tool ?

    Hi, I'm looking for a tool that allows me to analyze the compilation of a VS Solution (about 30 VS projects inside). I would like to know after the global solution compilation, which projets fail and forward errors to developers. Of course, I could analyze the compilation report... but I'm pretty sure that great tools are available ! What is for you the best one ? Thanks a lot !

  • Edit and Continue in Silverlight?

    Edit-And-Continue is one of my favorite debugging tools which I have previously used on C# based Winforms and ASP.NET projects. However, I'm running a Silverlight 3.0 application on VS 2008 and whenever I try to make a change (after breaking) it says "Changes are not allowed when debugging Silverlight applications". Also there isn't an "Enable Edit and Continue" option in the project settings. Does anyone (possibly an insider) know when this feature will be supported by Microsoft??? (I NEED IT!)

  • a question about rails general practice with REST, json, and ajax

    Hi all, I have this question concerning REST I think: I have read a few rest tutorials and the feeling I get from them is that each action in a restful controller tends to be lean and almost single purpose: "Index gives off a collection of a model show gives off one model edit/new a prep place for changing/create a model update/create changes and makes new model deletes removes one model" After reading all these tutorials, rest seems to be to be a means to create an interface for a model, much like active resource type of thing. the mantra seems to be "controller provides data and data only and is also pretty convention over configuration, so expect projects_path to return a bunch of projects" I can understand that, and I like the cleanliness. But here's when I run into some trouble in reality in applying these guidelines: say three models, Project with attrib title, User with attrib name, and Location with attrib address. Say in views/users/index.html.erb, I want to use Ajax to fetch and display a project in a div#project_display when the user clicks on a project element, I know that I can use views/projects/show.js.rjs like this: page.replace_html 'project_display' "#{@project.name}" where in the projects_controller.rb def show @project = Project.find(params[:id]) repsond_to do |format| format.js and other formats... end end I have no problem in doing that for a couple of years now. BUT doesn't that mean that my JS response for the project#show action is LOCkED to present data to div#project_display element and show only whatever I that rjs template says it should show? That's very limiting and doesn't sound very "interface" like. I have never used JSON before or much XML, so I thought, maybe the JS response should send back raw stuff, like JSON and somehow the page on which the ajax request was called has the instruction on what do to with these raw data. That sounds a lot more flexible, doesn't it? Because look back at that exmpale, what if in the views/locations/index.html.erb, I want to do the exact same thing except I want to put the response in div#project_goes_here and the response should be #{project.name} I know this is a trivial change but that's the point: the RJS only allows one template at a time. So I think the JSON route is the way to go, but how does the already loaded page, the one that the ajax call came from, know when or how to "look forward" to incoming data? I read that PrototypeJS has this template thing, I wouldn't mind using it with JSON, but if you can demonstrate this or other means for displaying received-from-ajax data, I am all attention.   • Can you point me to current examples using NHibernate in an ASP.NET MVC2 app?

    Can anyone point me to any self-contained, complete, current reference materials/projects using NHibernate in an ASP.NET MVC2 application? I have looked at Sharp Architecture, but I am not sure I need the complexity in that project. I certainly don't know enough about it to know if it is over-engineered for my purposes. I would like to see more types of implementations to gauge the various ways people have skinned this cat.

  • Berkeley DB: btree prefix comparison for directory-like keys?

    I'm going to index a BDB with keys that look a lot like directory paths ('/foo/bar', '/foo/baz', etc, with levels of slashes generally < 10). Does anybody have any experience with using a Btree prefix comparison routine[1] for this? Are the savings worthwhile? Any references to experience papers on this subject?   • How do I replicate the functionality of selecting contacts in messaging app?

    Android's messaging app, located in projects/platform/packages/apps/Mms.git has a class called RecipientsEditor. I would like to be able to create MultiAutoCompleteTextView that will filter contacts the same way, to make contact selection easy in my app. using the mms app is cumbersome since it uses internal apis and has everything split across classes. Has anyone made an easy way to do this?

  • Compiling Glib Code on Ubuntu

    I'm trying to compile ARCCC (https://sourceforge.net/projects/arccc/) on Ubuntu 9.10, but I'm getting the make error "glib.h: No such file or directory", and the autoconfig script reports that Glib isn't installed. However, I have the libglib2.0-dev package installed, which appears to provide all the glib headers. Is there something missing/wrong with the Ubuntu package, or the Autoconf script incorrect?

  • Compact Framework targeting

    If a smart device project is set to target CF 2.0, Windows CE 5.0, should this same application run on Windows Mobile 6 with CF 3.5 installed? I was able to install it (the CF 2 app), but when running received an error stating that the assemblies could not be loaded and that CF might not be installed. This has led me to belive that smart device projects wil ONLY work on the framework they target, not any versions lower or greater. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, java.util.zip has well-known problems with native memory usage, so i'm trying to use a drop-in replacement called "jazzlib". unfortunately as is typical for sourceforge projects there is no documentation. If I add the jar to my classpath then Java freaks out and gives me "prohibited package name" errors because it replaced java.util.zip. How do I tell Java that this is what I want it to do?

    I have a solution with just under 100 projects in it, a mix of C++ and C# (mostly C#). When working in VS2005, the working set of Visual Studio is considerably smaller than that of VS2010. I was wondering if there are some things that can be turned off, so I can develop in VS2010 under 32-bit OS without running out of memory.

I know it can be changed system wide via the registry ( http://www.psc.edu/networking/projects/tcptune/OStune/winxp/winxp_stepbystep.html ) Also, it seems like this is possible *nix via: int on=1; setsockopt(s,IPPROTO_TCP,TCP_RFC1323,&on,sizeof(on)); Is there a Windows equivalent?   • How to stay motivated on the job?

I can generally be easily motivated if I'm working on design, but that seems to be about 5% of my actual work hours.
