• How can I figure out my LDAP connection string?

  We're on a corporate network thats running active directory and we'd like to test out some LDAP stuff (active directory membership provider, actually) and so far, none of us can figure out what our LDAP connection string is. Does anyone know how we can go about finding it? The only thing we know is the domain that we're on.

  I am trying to get a Ruby on Rails app hosted free somewhere, and Heroku is looking like my last resource. It is supposed to work on Linux, and the gem installs with no errors, but whenever I run any Heroku command it spits out several errors, all connected, and talking about a failed require. I looked it up in the code, and it says: require 'readline' That is it. I have tried to install every variation of libreadline that I can find and think of, but none of it makes any difference.

• How to stop the Google Update background tool?

  On my Windows Vista PC, there is always an instance of "GoogleUpdate.exe" running. I find this annoying, so I'd like to make sure it doesn't start automatically. This proves to be not so easy, as I have tried these solutions: I disabled the "Google updateservice" service I removed the registry section "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Google Update" None of these worked. The registry section is simply re-added. Does anyone know the trick to avoid GoogleUpdate.exe to be started after booting the system?

• MSSQL Timing out, a couple of questions...

  Hi, About once a week, my MSSQL server is timing out, or rather the machine runs out of RAM. This morning it reached 3.9GB of the available 4, with MSSQL taking up 2.5GB. I'm concerned that i've not configured SQL to release memory as it should, so I ran sp_who2 while the timeouts were occuring to see what process were running. If i could post the CSV datafile i would, however, there were 85 processes in total, mostly related to the Full Text service: FT Gatherer - About 35 of these running under the 'sa' account against the master database with status of either sleeping or background, many were dependant on other processes. Is that normal? MySite database - There were only 5 processes for the one active site/database and all were either sleeping or suspended - but their lastBatch dates were set to 1/12/2020. Is that normal? The datbase is only about 20mb in size the traffic levels are very low, so i'm thinking of maybe limiting the amount of RAM SQL has access to (from unlimted to maybe 2GB). Any thoughts / advise would be appreciated. Mny thanks Ben

• LogMeIn style remote access to NAS drive

  I've been asked to setup some remote access to a NAS drive. The NAS drive will sit on a VLAN inside a network that uses a Cisco 891 IS router as gateway. The charity have no SSL-VPN licenses for the Cisco. At present there are no open ports or services on the Cisco itself and ideally we would like to keep it that way for a while, hence the request for a LogMeIn style service that's initiated from inside. We need multiple user access, about 10 max. Using LogMeIn on a machine connected to the NAS would only provide screen sharing I believe, and no concurrent connections (could be wrong?) The end users need to be able to read and write files to the NAS from Mac's and PC's around the globe. Read-only access from Mobile devices would be a bonus but not absolutely necessary. This is for a charity, non-commercial, but they are willing to spend if necessary. Cisco config knowledge is at a minimum so if I can avoid upsetting that delicate device I'll be happy :) Anyone have any clever ideas? I can provide more information on request. Thanks, Ben

  I'm trying to deploy a GWT app on Apache using mod_jk connector. I have compiled the application and tested it on tomcat on the address localhost:8080/loginapp and it works ok. This is fine under Linux as all the information is shown as long as the it is started from a shell. However, under Windows none of the information is show even when started from a shell. Is there a way to make this information displayed in the shell or to capture it in say a file?

  I can re-order 'cmd' tabs in Conemu ( as per Is that possible to reorder tabs in ConEmu?), but the WinAltLeft and WinAltRight shortcuts do not work if the tab has a Cygwin shell in it. I have tried various combinations of hotkey modifiers but none of them seem to work with the Cygwin shell. This is problematic because most of the tabs in my ConEmu have Cygwin shells.   In /etc/apache2/httpd.conf, I have remove the line of Include mod_status and add the following to the last line, LoadModule status_module /usr/lib/apache2/mod_status.so ExtendedStatus On <Location /server-status> SetHandler server-status AllowOverride None Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Allow from all </Location> Then I restart Apache, and go to http://HOSTNAME/server-status, but I get the page not found, Did someone know why I get page not found? Is there any more step needed to do to see the Apache status? Thanks
