  • How to insert multiple check-box values inside database when one or more will be left unchecked?

    I have a form that contains 5 check boxes. The user may select one or more of these check boxes. The user may select 2 and leave 3 unchecked or select 4 and leave one unchecked and so on, in that case how can I write the php/mysql code that will insert the form data into the database. With just one selection it's easy, I would do: $checkbox_value = $_POST['i_agree']; mysql_query("INSERT INTO terms (user, pass, conditions) VALUES ('$user','$pass','$checkbox_value')"); But how can I write this when there are multiple check box options and only one or more of them will be checked? I want to insert them all in one column called "tags" separated by commas.

  • Is a "Confirm Email" input good practice when user changes email address?

    My organization has a form to allow users to update their email address with us. It's suggested that we have two input boxes for email: the second as an email confirmation. I always copy/paste my email address when faced with the confirmation. I'm assuming most of our users are not so savvy. Regardless, is this considered a good practice? I can't stand it personally, but I also realize it probably isn't meant for me. If someone screws up their email, they can't login, and they must call to sort things out.

  • Rails - Help scoring an online quiz in RoR

    I'm trying to grade a quiz application I would like to make. I have a questions model with and ask(the actual question), 4 choices(a-d), and a correct answer(string). In the view I have the 4 question being diplayed then the correct answer choice (This is just a test for functionality) and then I created a text_field to accept the users answer choice and a button to refresh the index action which has the scoring logic, for now.. --Do I need to put the text_field within a form_tag? <p>1. <%= h @question.q1 %></p> <p>2. <%= h @question.q2 %></p> <p>3. <%= h @question.q3 %></p> <p>4. <%= h @question.q4 %></p> <p>Answer: <%= h @question.correct %></p> <%= text_field_tag :choice, params[:choice] %> <%= button_to "Grade", {:controller => 'site', :action => "index"} %> <p> <%= @answer %></p> Heres the index controller action def index @question = Question.find(1) if @question.correct == params[:choice] @answer = 'right' else @answer = 'wrong' end end Its not really working. The textfield is supposed to take a letter choice like 'a' or 'c' and compare it with the correct answer in the database. I would love this to work by radiobuttons, but I'm a newbie to rails so I thought I'd take baby steps. So if anyone can help me with how to fix this by string, or preferably by radiobuttons, I'd really appreciate it.

  • Accepting bank account information in a form

    What security concerns are there when accepting a user's bank account information (account number and routing number) via a form on a page that is using SSL, and posting it back to the server where I then curl off a HTTPS request to send that information to an ACH service like First ACH or ACH Direct via their API? We wouldn't be saving the bank account information in our database. I know another option is to use Paypal's Mass Pay API, but they think it's unprofessional (at least for their business) to require customers to have a paypal account to get paid. Thoughts?

  • How do I protect Dynamic data pages using ASP.NET Authentication?

    I have a site where most of my pages are arranged in business area folders, e.g. Activations, Outdoors, Branding. Each folder has a small web.config that protects the contents against access by people without a role for that business area. However, basic admin for most business areas is done via Dynamic Data pages. These are only basically protected by not appearing in the menu unless the user has the correct role, but they are still accessible directly via URL, because of the {table}/{Action} routing used by Dynamic Data. What can I do to protect these pages against direct access?

    Hi everyone, I'm not sure how to accomplish this issue which has been confusing me for a few days. I have a form that updates a user record in MySQL when a checkbox is checked. The alternative I thought of was, via Javascript, giving the checkbox a value that would be dynamically updated when the user selected it. Then, only THOSE checkboxes would be put into the array. Is this possible? Is there a better solution? I'm not even sure I could wrap my brain around how to do that WITH Javascript. Does the answer perhaps lie in how my mysql code is written?   • More than one Custome control are not working properly

    Hello Developers, I have developed a ASP.Net Server custom control in C# for 3.5. named "myCheckBoxList" inherited from CheckBoxList web control. Working is very simple. It just works as a two option buttons. I have taken a CheckBoxList which will show two fixed checkboxes always. When I check one checkbox then another will uncheck as vise versa. This control works perfectly only when I have placed only one instance of that control on web page. If I place more than one instance of control then it doesnt works. Please, I need solution from expert minds from developers as stackoverflow users.

  • replace values in form.data when form fails validation

    Hi I have a form field which requires a json object as its value when it is rendered. When the form is submitted it returns a comma seperated string of ids as its value (not a json string). however if the form does not validate i want to turn this string of ids back into a json string so it will display properly (is uses jquery to render the json object correctly). how would i do this? I was thinking of overwriting the form.clean method but when I tried to change self.data['fieldname'] I got the error 'This QueryDict instance is immutable' and when i tried to change self.cleaned_data['fieldname'] it didn't make a difference to the value of the field.   • My form submit button is not showing correctly

  • Nested Transaction issues within custom Windows Service

    I have a custom Windows Service I recently upgraded to use TransactionScope for nested transactions. It worked fine locally on my old dev machine (XP sp3) and on a test server (Server 2003). However, it fails on my new Windows 7 machine as well as on 2008 Server. It was targeting 2.0 framework; I tried targeting 3.5 instead, but it still fails. The strange part is really in how it fails; no exception is thrown. The service itself merely times out. I added tracing code, and it fails when opening the connection for Database lookup #2 below. I also enabled tracing for System.Transactions; it literally cuts out partway while writing the block for the failed connection. We ran a SQL trace, but only the first lookup shows up. I put in code traces, and it gets to the trace the line before the second lookup, but nothing after. I've had the same experience hitting two different SQL servers (both are SQL 2005 running on Server 2003). The connection string is utilizing a SQL account (not Windows integration). All connections are against the same database in this case, but given the nature of the code it is being escalated to MSDTC. Here's the basic code structure: TransactionOptions options = new TransactionOptions(); options.IsolationLevel = System.Transactions.IsolationLevel.ReadCommitted; using (TransactionScope scope = new TransactionScope(TransactionScopeOption.RequiresNew, options)) { // Database lookup #1 TransactionOptions options = new TransactionOptions(); options.IsolationLevel = Transaction.Current != null ? Transaction.Current.IsolationLevel : System.Transactions.IsolationLevel.ReadCommitted; using (TransactionScope scope = new TransactionScope(TransactionScopeOption.Required, options)) { // Database lookup #2; fails on connection.Open() // Database save (never reached) scope.Complete();<br/> } scope.Complete();<br/> } My local firewall is disabled. The service normally runs using Network Service, but I also tried my user account (same results). The short of it is that I use the same general technique widely in my web applications and haven't had any issues. I pulled out the code and ran it fine within a local Windows Form application. If anyone has any additional debugging ideas (or, even better, solutions) I'd love to hear them.

  • Basic Custom String Class for C++

    Hey all, I'm working on building my own string class with very basic functionality. I am having difficulty understand what is going on with the basic class that I have define, and believe there is some sort of error dealing with the scope occurring. When I try to view the objects I created, all the fields are described as (obviously bad pointer). Also, if I make the data fields public or build an accessor method, the program crashes. For some reason the pointer for the object is 0xccccccccc which points to no where. How can a I fix this?   • Aligning inputs on bootstrap using the Fluid Grid System

The first line of the form has two inputs side by side for each part of the name and the 2nd line has one input for the email address that should be the same width as the first line combined.     I have a form with lots of inputs. I want to get each id and value and then put them in $.load method. I tried this: $("#form input").each(function() { var name = $(this).attr("id"); var value = $(this).attr("value"); $.extend(params, { name, value }); }); and then use $.load("script.php", params); But obviously it doesn't work. In params I have only one element "name". And I'm not sure I should use extend method too.

    I am designing an application such that it will have to react to certain actions required by the website, mostly the same way Last.FM client does (if you have used one) The way Last.FM client works is that, it will register a custom protocol in Windows (lastfm://) and on their website, they use that protocol to trigger certain action on the player, e.g.: lastfm://artist//similarartists will actually direct any Last.FM client running to load up similar artists. I would like to do the same thing for my application. Is this a good idea? Is there any good alternatives to send a message from a website to a desktop client in this manner?

I can get it to take one or I can script out different cases of each changing the class name but I think there has to be a way where it references whatever link is being clicked instead of what it's currently doing.
