• JSF : Better way to check for existence of <h:message for="id"/>

  I have a form in which validation error message needs to be displayed below the input elements. The error needs to be highlighted by showing an error bubble around the error message and the input text. To achieve this, I need to check for the existence of h:messages for individual elements. I am able to check for the existence of global error messages as follows <h:panelGroup rendered="#{not empty facesContext.messages}"> </h:panelGroup> How I can check the same for specific client id (say first name). So something like faceContent.messages("creditCardNo") A solution I have currently is to create a custom resolver but was wondering if there is a better solution.

• Modifying records in my migration throws an authlogic error

  I'm adding some columns to one of my database tables, and then populating those columns: def self.up add_column :contacts, :business_id, :integer add_column :contacts, :business_type, :string Contact.reset_column_information Contact.all.each do |contact| contact.update_attributes(:business_id => contact.client_id, :business_type => 'Client') end remove_column :contacts, :client_id end The line contact.update_attributes is causing the following Authlogic error: You must activate the Authlogic::Session::Base.controller with a controller object before creating objects I have no idea what is going on here - I'm not using a controller method to modify each row in the table. Nor am I creating new objects. The error doesn't occur if the contacts table is empty. I've had a google and it seems like this error can occur when you run your controller tests, and is fixed by adding before_filter :activate_authlogic to them, but this doesn't seem relevant in my case. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

• mod_rewrite regex help

  HI guys. Im using mod_rewrite to do some redirects on a web site. I want to be able to do the following mySite.com/ - Goto Home mySite.com/foo - Goto redirect.php and redirect acordingly. My redirect rule was RewriteRule (^\w*$) redirect.php?url=$1 [NC] But im oviously missing something because when I go tomySite.com/ I get sent to redirect.php I need a regex that allow lower and upper case letters, as well as underscores but it has to ignore "empty" strings so when I go to mySite.com/ the index file is displayed. Any help? Thanks!

• How can I get jQuery UI's Draggable and Sortable functions to work on the iPhone?

  I have a page that uses JQuery UI; in particular the Sortable interaction. The page works fine for desktop web browsers with mice, however I can't get the drag-drop functionality to work on Mobile Safari on the iPhone. Any dragging action simply scrolls the page. The functionality on my page is extremely similar to the Sortable Empty-Lists demo on the JQuery UI site. This page also doesn't work on the iPhone. Is there any way to get the drag-drop functions working on the iPhone?

• Using resource values as layout attributes (config.xml)

  Looking in the android sdk folders, I've found a file called values/config.xml. This seems to be somewhere that you can define values for later use in layouts and animations. Given the config.xml: <resources> <string name="config_somePadding">50dip</string> </resources> How would I reference this to use as the layout_height in a layout xml file? @string/config_somePadding is actually the only one I've found that doesn't throw an error in Eclipse (even though there isn't a config_somePadding in values/strings.xml), but it appears to just put an empty string. In the sdk, they use an integer for animation duration. They reference it like this: android:duration="@android:integer/config_longAnimTime". Is there a way to use values that aren't integers in the layout_height attribute?

• A very basic auto-expanding list/array

  Hi, I have a method which returns an array of fixed type objects (let's say MyObject). The method creates a new empty Stack<MyObject>. Then, it does some work and pushes some number of MyObjects to the end of the Stack. Finally, it returns the Stack.ToArray(). It does not change already added items or their properties, nor remove them. The number of elements to add will cost performance. There is no need to sort/order the elements. Is Stack a best thing to use? Or must I switch to Collection or List to ensure better performance and/or lower memory cost?

• How do you add a row to a databound datagridview using the datagridview in the gui?

  Hi guys, I've bound a datagridview to a collection of objects. It's giving me a null reference exception when I try to add a new row to a collection (empty or otherwise) using the gui. More specifically, when there is a write event it does this. How can I override the behavior of the write event and manually add all of the columns contents to the object collection? I could disable the add new row feature and make an add button, but the built in datagridview row add looks so much more slick.

• COM on Windows7 and Visual Studio

  I registered a COM dll (under administrator) using regsvr32, which I want to use in Visual Studio 2008 (under administrator) for my project in Windows 7. Now, when I try to use the interfaces and classes from the COM, then I can't see any of the methods. When I use the object browser to view the COM classes, then I can see that they are all empty. However when I use the same COM on windows XP using VS2008, then all methods are suddenly available. Does anybody know why this is happening and how to get this working under Windows 7?

  Hi, I'm uploading a large amount of data from a CSV (I'm doing it via MySQL Workbench): LOAD DATA INFILE 'C:/development/mydoc.csv' INTO TABLE mydatabase.mytable CHARACTER SET utf8 FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' LINES TERMINATED BY '\r'; However, I'm noticing that it keeps adding an empty line full of nulls/zeros after the last record. I'm guessing it's because of the "LINES TERMINATED" command. However, I need that to load the data in correctly. Is there some way around this / some better SQL to avoid the blank row in the table? • savedInstanceState cannot be resolved to a variable

  I'm currently working through "The Android Developers Cookbook" and one of the tutorials involves multiple activities in an app. To give a bit of background right now I have to .java files, a "menu screen" and a "game screen". The menu screen simply has a button that leads to the game screen which is currently empty except for a button that takes you back to the menu screen. Currently the game.java file is giving me a "savedInstanceState error" this is the code I am working on. public void onCreate(Bundle savedInsanceState) { // below is where the error comes up super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.game); Button startButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.end_game); startButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View view) { finish(); } }); } I'm not sure why the error is coming up because on the first java file that same "public void...setContentView..." bit of code compiled perfectly fine... Please help!

  I'm rendering a drop down list using Html.DropDownListFor() extension. The markup I get is as follows: select id="NationalityId" name="NationalityId" option value="" /option option selected="selected" value="1"Estonian /option option value="2"Russian /option option value="3"Ukranian /option option value="4"Belorussian /option option value="5"Swedish /option option value="6"Dutch /option /select As you can see, option with value==1 is selected. But in Firefox 3.6.3 it doesn't display as selected, empty string (first option - value == "") is displayed instead. IE7 and Chrome render the page right - the option is selected. Does anybody know what is going on? How do I get this around?

• Methods in super that will be subclassed anyway (Cocoa)

  Sorry if this is a repost but I couldn't quite search for it because I can't explain it in a few words. I have a super class with lots of methods but they will always (not all of them) be subclassed. From the super I need to access (read only) those methods. I could either leave the methods in super empty or I could just not type them in super but call them anyway like so [self myMethod] and it will call my subclassed method even if it doesn't exist in super. This works but Xcode gives me an error though. 'superclass' may not respond to '-subclassmethod' What should I do?

  Hi, I've just started a new project in ASP.net 4.0 with MVC 2. What I need to be able to do is have a custom hook at the start and end of each action of the controller. e.g. public void Index() { *** call to the start custom hook to externalfile.cs (is empty so does nothing) ViewData["welcomeMessage"] = "Hello World"; *** call to the end custom hook to externalfile.cs (changes "Hello World!" to "Hi World") return View(); } The View then see welcomeMessage as "Hi World" after being changed in the custom hook. The custom hook would need to be in an external file and not change the "core" compiled code. This causes a problem as with my limited knowledge ASP.net MVC has to be compiled. Does anyone have any advice on how this can be achieved? Thanks

  I'm working on a CMS system which uses a resource file to get information and errormessages from. The client side validation is working without problems, only it's not getting the errormessage from the resource file. While debugging i figured out xval seems to get the errormessages from a javascript file where the messages are set hard-coded. Is there some way to override this? Below the code which should make the relation to the resourcefile en specify the error when the field is left empty.   i have a form, and i want to have it be limited at 10 characters minimum. that is no problem, but what i want to do is echo the error at the top of the page, which is being included, so i cant just do: echo '<div class="error">Error</div>'; i want to have a designated div that is empty (will be on the included header page), but when there is an error it gets filled with the error text to output. anyone know how to do this not using sessions or cookies?

  I'm developing a jquery gallery, and I want to parametrize the highlighter function to support any kind of lightboxes (fancybox for example). In my defaults I did something like: $.fn.mygallery.defaults = { functionHighlighter: null } so in the code, creating the item, I'll check this property, and if it's setted to a function, I want to call it on the element: if ((typeof opt.functionHighlighter) === "function") { opt.functionHighlighter.call(link); } where link is the anchor element containing the miniature image, with href setted to the original image. In my idea, when the plugin is called, I set the function with: $("#gallery").mygallery({ functionHighlighter: $.fancybox }); but the "call" on the functionHighlighter executes directly the fancybox, that returns an empty area. What I want to emulate is the execution of link.fancybox(); that correctly builds the plugin on link. Any ideas?

• Does the chunk of the System.Collections.Concurrent.Partitioner need to be thread safe?

  I am working with the Parallel libraries in .net 4 and I am creating a Partitioner and the example shown in the MSDN only has a chunk size of 1 (every time a new result is retrieved it hits the data source instead of the local cache. The version I am writing will pull 10000 SQL rows at a time then feed the rows from the cache until it is empty then pull another batch. Each partition in the Partitioner has its own chunk. I know every time I call to the IEnumerator in from the SQL data-source that needs to be thread safe but for use in a Parallel.ForEach do I need to make every call to the cache for the chunking thread safe?

  If an application† crashes: i hit "Debug" and Visual Studio is my currently registered Just-In-Time (JIT) debugger: Visual Studio appears, but there's no way to debug anything: i do not see any disassembly. i do not see any symbols i do not see reconstructed source code from reflection i do not see any registers the call stack is empty Other JIT debugger products are able to show disassembly, but they are either command-line based (Debugging Tools for Windows), or do not support symbols (OllyDbg, Delphi). Additionally, my question is about debugging using Visual Studio, since i already have it installed, and is already my registered JIT. How do you debug a program using Visual Studio? Alternatively: has anyone written a graphical debugger that supports the Microsoft symbol server? † not, necessarily, written in Visual Studio Edit: Changes title to process rather than application, since the latter somehow implies "my application."

  Hi, I'm looking for an idiomatic way to get dynamically scoped variables in Clojure (or a similar effect) for use in templates and such. Here is an example problem using a lookup table to translate tag attributes from some non-HTML format to HTML, where the table needs access to a set of variables supplied from elsewhere: (def *attr-table* ; Key: [attr-key tag-name] or [boolean-function] ; Value: [attr-key attr-value] (empty array to ignore) ; Context: Variables "tagname", "akey", "aval" '( ; translate :LINK attribute in <a> to :href [:LINK "a"] [:href aval] ; translate :LINK attribute in <img> to :src [:LINK "img"] [:src aval] ; throw exception if :LINK attribute in any other tag [:LINK] (throw (RuntimeException. (str "No match for " tagname))) ; ... more rules ; ignore string keys, used for internal bookkeeping [(string? akey)] [] )) ; ignore I want to be able to evaluate the rules (left hand side) as well as the result (right hand side), and need some way to put the variables in scope at the location where the table is evaluated. I also want to keep the lookup and evaluation logic independent of any particular table or set of variables. I suppose there are similar issues involved in templates (for example for dynamic HTML), where you don't want to rewrite the template processing logic every time someone puts a new variable in a template. Here is one approach using global variables and bindings. I have included some logic for the table lookup: ;; Generic code, works with any table on the same format. (defn rule-match? (Plus of course that the general table approach is about a quarter of the size of the code I had when I did the translations "by hand" in a giant cond.) It is not so nice in that I need to declare every variable as a global for the binding to work. Here is another approach using a "semi-macro", a function with a syntax-quoted return value, that doesn't need globals: (defn attr-table [tagname akey aval] `( [:LINK "a"] [:href ~aval] [:LINK "img"] [:src ~aval] [:LINK] (throw (RuntimeException. (str "No match for " tagname))) ; ... more rules [(string? ~akey)] [] ))) Only a couple of changes are needed to the rest of the code: In rule-match?, when syntax-quoted the function call is no longer a list: - (list? rule-val) (eval rule-val) + (seq? rule-val) (eval rule-val) In html-attr: - (binding [tagname tagname akey k aval v] - (or (rule-lookup [k tagname] *attr-table*) kv))) + (or (rule-lookup [k tagname] (attr-table tagname k v)) kv))) And we get the same result without globals. (And without dynamic scoping.) Are there other alternatives to pass along sets of variable bindings declared elsewhere, without the globals required by Clojure's binding? Is there an idiomatic way of doing it, like Ruby's binding or Javascript's function.apply(context)?
