• A very basic auto-expanding list/array

  Hi, I have a method which returns an array of fixed type objects (let's say MyObject). The method creates a new empty Stack<MyObject>. Then, it does some work and pushes some number of MyObjects to the end of the Stack. Finally, it returns the Stack.ToArray(). It does not change already added items or their properties, nor remove them. The number of elements to add will cost performance. There is no need to sort/order the elements. Is Stack a best thing to use? Or must I switch to Collection or List to ensure better performance and/or lower memory cost?

• Using resource values as layout attributes (config.xml)

  Looking in the android sdk folders, I've found a file called values/config.xml. This seems to be somewhere that you can define values for later use in layouts and animations. Given the config.xml: <resources> <string name="config_somePadding">50dip</string> </resources> How would I reference this to use as the layout_height in a layout xml file? @string/config_somePadding is actually the only one I've found that doesn't throw an error in Eclipse (even though there isn't a config_somePadding in values/strings.xml), but it appears to just put an empty string. In the sdk, they use an integer for animation duration. They reference it like this: android:duration="@android:integer/config_longAnimTime". Is there a way to use values that aren't integers in the layout_height attribute?

• What does Visual Studio 2008 do when I add an assembly reference?

  When I add a reference to an assembly (living in the GAC) to web.config in an ASP.NET project, what does Visual Studio do? [This is related to an earlier question pertaining to BusinessObjects: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2379615/ ] When I add "CrystalDecisions.Enterprise" and "CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.Framework" to the assemblies element in web.config, VS thinks long and hard about it, locking me out for a couple of minutes while it scrutinizes the newcomers. What is it doing during this time? I Googled this but came up empty. I can make some educated guesses (IntelliSense integration, perhaps?) but would ideally like to find some documentation describing exactly what's going on. Ultimately I'm hoping to learn why these BO references are making VS take several minutes to open my projects (I struck out on the SAP forums).

  If I understand it right the new ACT ComboBox Control is Bound once to a given Datasource. But the count of the records I want to bind is very large. So I want to load the content of the ComboBox List via Ajax after the user typed in a few charachters. So at page load the combobox list should be empty and if something is typed in the list is loaded with the typed text as search text.   i have a form, and i want to have it be limited at 10 characters minimum. that is no problem, but what i want to do is echo the error at the top of the page, which is being included, so i cant just do: echo '<div class="error">Error</div>'; i want to have a designated div that is empty (will be on the included header page), but when there is an error it gets filled with the error text to output. anyone know how to do this not using sessions or cookies?

  Suppose that I've queued a work item in a ThreadPool, but the work item blocks if there is no data to process (reading from a BlockingQueue). If the queue is empty and there will be no more work going into the queue, then I must call the Thread.Interrupt method if I want to interrupt the blocking task, but how does one do the same thing with a ThreadPool? The code might look like this: void Run() { try { while(true) { blockingQueue.Dequeue(); doSomething(); } } finally { countDownLatch.Signal(); } } I'm aware that the best thing to do in this situation is use a regular Thread, but I'm wondering if there is a ThreadPool equivalent way to interrupt a work item.

• Does the chunk of the System.Collections.Concurrent.Partitioner need to be thread safe?

  I am working with the Parallel libraries in .net 4 and I am creating a Partitioner and the example shown in the MSDN only has a chunk size of 1 (every time a new result is retrieved it hits the data source instead of the local cache. The version I am writing will pull 10000 SQL rows at a time then feed the rows from the cache until it is empty then pull another batch. Each partition in the Partitioner has its own chunk. I know every time I call to the IEnumerator in from the SQL data-source that needs to be thread safe but for use in a Parallel.ForEach do I need to make every call to the cache for the chunking thread safe?

  Hi, I'm looking for an idiomatic way to get dynamically scoped variables in Clojure (or a similar effect) for use in templates and such. Here is an example problem using a lookup table to translate tag attributes from some non-HTML format to HTML, where the table needs access to a set of variables supplied from elsewhere: (def *attr-table* ; Key: [attr-key tag-name] or [boolean-function] ; Value: [attr-key attr-value] (empty array to ignore) ; Context: Variables "tagname", "akey", "aval" '( ; translate :LINK attribute in <a> to :href [:LINK "a"] [:href aval] ; translate :LINK attribute in <img> to :src [:LINK "img"] [:src aval] ; throw exception if :LINK attribute in any other tag [:LINK] (throw (RuntimeException. (str "No match for " tagname))) ; ... more rules ; ignore string keys, used for internal bookkeeping [(string? akey)] [] )) ; ignore I want to be able to evaluate the rules (left hand side) as well as the result (right hand side), and need some way to put the variables in scope at the location where the table is evaluated. I also want to keep the lookup and evaluation logic independent of any particular table or set of variables. I suppose there are similar issues involved in templates (for example for dynamic HTML), where you don't want to rewrite the template processing logic every time someone puts a new variable in a template. (str "No match for " tagname))) ; ... more rules [(string? ~akey)] [] ))) Only a couple of changes are needed to the rest of the code: In rule-match?, when syntax-quoted the function call is no longer a list: - (list? rule-val) (eval rule-val) + (seq? rule-val) (eval rule-val) In html-attr: - (binding [tagname tagname akey k aval v] - (or (rule-lookup [k tagname] *attr-table*) kv))) + (or (rule-lookup [k tagname] (attr-table tagname k v)) kv))) And we get the same result without globals. (And without dynamic scoping.) Are there other alternatives to pass along sets of variable bindings declared elsewhere, without the globals required by Clojure's binding? Is there an idiomatic way of doing it, like Ruby's binding or Javascript's function.apply(context)?

  I'm rendering a drop down list using Html.DropDownListFor() extension. The markup I get is as follows: select id="NationalityId" name="NationalityId" option value="" /option option selected="selected" value="1"Estonian /option option value="2"Russian /option option value="3"Ukranian /option option value="4"Belorussian /option option value="5"Swedish /option option value="6"Dutch /option /select As you can see, option with value==1 is selected. But in Firefox 3.6.3 it doesn't display as selected, empty string (first option - value == "") is displayed instead. IE7 and Chrome render the page right - the option is selected. Does anybody know what is going on? How do I get this around?

  Hello, I made a VBS script that imports users and creates a Contact Objects everything working OK till I found that users does not appear in the GAL (Global Address List) looking around I found that I need to use the attribute (showInAddressBook) I tried to use it but I get some errors (Null ......) but my supplied inputs are not empty and I have a checking function before sending the inputs to showInAddressBook so what should I use in there? I used the users names, but it did not work also the users are externals (just to use them in our GAL) they have different emails than our normal users any idea on what should I use with showInAddressBook ? cheers

• How do you add a row to a databound datagridview using the datagridview in the gui?

  Hi guys, I've bound a datagridview to a collection of objects. It's giving me a null reference exception when I try to add a new row to a collection (empty or otherwise) using the gui. More specifically, when there is a write event it does this. How can I override the behavior of the write event and manually add all of the columns contents to the object collection? I could disable the add new row feature and make an add button, but the built in datagridview row add looks so much more slick.

• COM on Windows7 and Visual Studio

  I registered a COM dll (under administrator) using regsvr32, which I want to use in Visual Studio 2008 (under administrator) for my project in Windows 7. Now, when I try to use the interfaces and classes from the COM, then I can't see any of the methods. When I use the object browser to view the COM classes, then I can see that they are all empty. However when I use the same COM on windows XP using VS2008, then all methods are suddenly available. Does anybody know why this is happening and how to get this working under Windows 7?

  Hi, I'm uploading a large amount of data from a CSV (I'm doing it via MySQL Workbench): LOAD DATA INFILE 'C:/development/mydoc.csv' INTO TABLE mydatabase.mytable CHARACTER SET utf8 FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' LINES TERMINATED BY '\r'; However, I'm noticing that it keeps adding an empty line full of nulls/zeros after the last record. I'm guessing it's because of the "LINES TERMINATED" command. However, I need that to load the data in correctly. Is there some way around this / some better SQL to avoid the blank row in the table?   I have a page that uses JQuery UI; in particular the Sortable interaction. The page works fine for desktop web browsers with mice, however I can't get the drag-drop functionality to work on Mobile Safari on the iPhone. Any dragging action simply scrolls the page. The functionality on my page is extremely similar to the Sortable Empty-Lists demo on the JQuery UI site. This page also doesn't work on the iPhone. Is there any way to get the drag-drop functions working on the iPhone?

  Sometimes, when running a Mono .NET application (it seems to not depend on the input data, as it does not change), I run into following situation: when trying to Dequeue an element from a (non-empty, I check its Count beforehand) Queue, an exception is thrown: Unhandled Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object at System.Collections.Generic.Queue1[DBWorkItem].Peek ()[0x00000] at System.Collections.Generic.Queue1[DBWorkItem].Dequeue () [0x00000] at DBProcessor.process (System.Object q) [0x0006b] in <... Though I can certainly catch this exception, the element is dequeued and lost. Has anyone else encountered this behavior, too?
