Encoding movie files into h264

Found some topics about archiving into h264, but those were about the generic questions (does it worth it, which codec to use.) I want to use h264 (with CUDA (if possible)). So far I only found Avidemux a usable encoder with x264 but it makes an unwatchable video file after the encoding (using the best profile, all setting maxed out), really blurry. Please write down detailed what to use, where to get it (if its free, doesnt matter), what to set, etc. Thanks in advance. (OS: Windows 7 ulti x64, VGA is VP2 capable with CUDA GTX260 XFX) Of course, if there is an up to date duplicate, just comment with the link and I'll remove the question ASAP.

WCF REST Question, Binding, Configuration

I am working on a WCF rest interface using json. I have wrapped the service in a windows service to host the service but I am now having trouble getting the service to be callable. I am not sure exactly what is wrong. The basic idea is that I want to host the service on a remote server so I want the service mapped to port localhost:7600 so that it can be invoked by posting data to [server_ip]:7600. The problem is most likely in the configuration file, since I am new to WCF and Rest I wasn't really sure what to type for the configuration so sorry if it's a total mess. I removed several chunks of code and comments to make it a little easier to read. These functions should have no bearing on the service since they call only C# functions. Putting codes in email subjects

We send out large quantities of email to our customers (work environment surveys). Sometimes our mailinglist for a client isn't quite up to date and we get bounce mails (address not found and such). However, since these all bounce back to the same address it's difficult to keep track on which bounce belongs to which client. (The email subject is usually pretty generic, like "Welcome to the work environment survey") This is why I would like to insert a identifier in the subject line of the email. So the subject would be "Welcome to the work environment survey (1234)" where 1234 is a number identifying the client/survey. We already rank pretty high because of the way our mailer handles sending the mails. Usually we contact the clients it-dept to get them to whitelist us in their firewall/spamfilter. Would this increase our spamscore in spamfilters?

Hibernate: How do I link a subclass to its superclass?

Hey there! I'm having a little problem setting up my webshop project. Thing is, I have a User() superclass and two subclasses, PrivateUser and BusinessUser. Now, I'm not quite sure how to get my head around storing this relationship via hibernate. For the purpose of this question, the User() class contains only one field: String address; the PrivateUser contains: String firstName; and the BusinessUser contains: String CompanyName; Each field has its getter and setter. As is right now, I would only store and be able to get firstName and companyName. When I fetch a user from my DB using Hibernate I would get a PrivateUser/BusinessUser with a null address. Bottom line is, could someone point me towards a useful tutorial or better yet show a similar example code? Thanks!

Multiple Java Versions

There are few applications which use Java 1.6.2x , few 1.7.1X and other uses 1.7.4X versions. Since we decided to push all three applications to the user .How to make the applications to use its particular version. There are few web based apps and enterprise apps which requires only a specific set of java versions which is creating issues. Os : Win 7 IE - ver 8 Work around In Progress : Trying to apply a batch file for each app to set the require java version path , but its not the required solution. Do we have any generic way which automatically maps to its required java version , instead of running batch file for each application. Looking forward your valuable suggestions.

Hi, I am trying to install skype-ubuntu-intrepid_2.1.0.91-1.i386.deb on ubuntu 8.04: But in the Package installer, I get 'Error Dependency is not satisfiable: libascound2'. And I have tried. $ sudo apt-get install libasound2 [sudo] password for novarra: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done libasound2 is already the newest version. The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: linux-headers-2.6.24-24-generic libdns35 linux-headers-2.6.24-24 Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them. Opening an oracle database crashes the service

I am experiencing a weird issue with Oracle where the service started fine after a crash. The database mount went fine as well. However, when I issue alter database open; command, the database does not open, gives a generic cannot connect to the database error & crashes the service. Oracle support has not seen this issue before so it's pretty scary. The fact that there are no logs that give any leads as to what could be causing this is also scary. I was wondering if good folks over at Server Fault had seen something like this or have some insights on things that I could try. It's Oracle 10g running on Windows Server 2003. Thanks, Ashish

What is your strategy to avoid dynamic typing errors in Python (NoneType has not attribute x)?

Python is one of my favorite languages, but I really have a love/hate relationship with it's dynamicness. Apart from the advantages, it often results in me forgetting to check a type, trying to call an attribute and getting the NoneType (or any other) has no attribute x error. A lot of them are pretty harmless but if not handled correctly they can bring down your entire app/process/etc. Over time I got better predicting where these could pop up and adding explicit type checking, but because I'm only human I miss one occasionally and then some end-user finds it. So I'm interested in your strategy to avoid these. Do you use type-checking decorators? Maybe special object wrappers? Please share...

rails accessing value from facebooker hash/array

This is my first time using the facebooker plugin with rails, and I'm having trouble accessing user info. The website uses FB connect to authenticate users. I am trying to get the name of the university that the logged in user attends. When I use the command <%= facebook_session.user.education_history[:name] %>, I get an error "Symbol as array index". I have also tried using education_history[1], but that just returns "# Facebooker::EducationInfo:<some sort of alphanumeric hash value>" When I use something like <%= facebook_session.user.relationship_status %> , it returns the relationship status just fine. Similarly, <%= facebook_session.user.hometown_location.city %> returns the city name just fine. I've checked out the documentation for facebooker, but I can't figure out the correct way to get the values I need. Any idea on how to get this to work? Thanks!

Adding links to full change forms for inline items in django admin?

I have a standard admin change form for an object, with the usual StackedInline forms for a ForeignKey relationship. I would like to be able to link each inline item to its corresponding full-sized change form, as the inline item has inlined items of its own, and I can't nest them. I've tried everything from custom widgets to custom templates, and can't make anything work. So far, the "solutions" I've seen in the form of snippets just plain don't seem to work for inlines. I'm getting ready to try some DOM hacking with jQuery just to get it working and move on. I hope I must be missing something very simple, as this seems like such a simple task! Using Django 1.2.

Django many to many annotations and filters

So I have two models, Person and Film where they're in a many to many relationship. My goal is to grab a film, and output the persons that have also appeared in at least 10 films. For example I can get the count individually by: >>> Person.objects.get(short__istartswith = "Matt Damon").film_set.count() 71 However, if I try to filter all the actors of a particular film out: >>> Film.objects.get(name__istartswith="Saving Private Ryan").actors.all().annotate(film_count=Count('film')).filter(film_count__gte=10) [] it returns an empty set since if I manually look at everyone's film_count it's 1, even though an actor such as Matt Damon (as seen above) has been in 71 films in my db. jQuery drag drop slower for more DIV items

Hi there, I have got a hierarchichal tags (with parent child relationship) in my page and it will account to 500 - 4500 (can even grow). When i bound the draggable and droppable for all i saw very bad performance in IE7 and IE6. The custom helper wont move smoothly and was very very slow. Based on some other post i have made the droppable been bound/unbound on mouseover and mouseout events (dynamically). Its better now. But still i dont see the custom helper move very smoothly there is a gap between the mouse cursor and the helper when they move and gets very bad when i access the site from remote. Please help me to address this performance issue. Am totally stuck here.. :(

Hi everybody! In a Silverlight 4 proj i'm using WCF RIA services, MVVM principles and EF 4. I 'm running into this situation: created an entity called Category and another one called CategoryLocale (automated using VS, no POCO). The relation between them is 1 to N respectively (one Category can have many CategoryLocales), so trough this relationship one can implement master-detail scenarios. Everytime i change a property in the master record (Category) i get a notifypropertychanged notification raised. But: whenever i change a property in the detail (CategoryLocales) i don't get anything raised. I hate these three tables that. Two tables have a many to many relationship and as such it generates a third table. I'm using Linq-to-SQL and in the .dbml file I've dragged all the folder there to the graphic surface. Here is the method I'm using to delete an Area safely. Finding distance travelled by robot using Optical Flow

Hi, I'm working on a project right now in which we are developing an autonomous robot. I have to basically find out the distance travelled by the robot between any 2 intervals. I'm using OpenCV, and using the Optical Flow functions of OpenCV, I'm able to find out the velocity/distance of each pixel in 2 different images. Using this information, I want to be able to find out the distance travelled by the robot in the interval between those 2 images. I thought of a way in which we could develop an input output mapping between the distance travelled by pixels and the distance travelled by the bot (using some tests). In this way, using neural networks, we would be able to find the relationship. However, the optical flow would depend on the distance of the camera from the pixel, which would cause problems. Is there any way to solve this problem?

CodeIgniter model debugging errors

I am new to CodeIgniter, and I need a way to get more meaningful error messages. Specifically I am having trouble with some model relationships, but the error is vague. I am willing to try/install anything since I dont know how to fix this relationship. Is there a way to specify how verbose an error message is? Also, this could be related to DataMapper, but I cant tell. I dont care if they are logged or in the browser. In my browser error reads: An Error Was Encountered Unable to relate X with Y. Any more info would be great... which class, line number, a stacktrace. Increasing the log threshold did not help.

I've been reading up on foreign keys and joins recently, and have been pleasantly surprised that many of the basic concepts are things I'm already putting into practice. For example, with one project I'm currently working on, I'm organizing word lists, and have a table for the sets, like so: `words` Table `word_id` `headword` `category_id` `categories` Table `category_id` `category_name` Now, generally speaking this would be a one-to-many relationship, with several words being placed under a single category with the foreign key category_id. Let's assume for a moment, however, that a user chooses to add another category to a word, making it many-to-many—Is there a way to set up my words table to handle additional categories for words without creating extra columns like category_2, category_3, etc.?

Unmount Mass Storage USB Device from the Command Line in Linux

I've searched high and low, and can't figure this one out. I have a older Olympus Camera (2001 or so). When I plug in the USB connection, I get the following log output: $ dmesg | grep sd [20047.625076] sd 21:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg7 type 0 [20047.627922] sd 21:0:0:0: [sdg] Attached SCSI removable disk Secondly, the drive is not mounted in the FS, but when I run gphoto2 I get the following error: $ gphoto2 --list-config *** Error *** An error occurred in the io-library ('Could not lock the device'): Camera is already in use. *** Error (-60: 'Could not lock the device') *** What command will unmount the drive. For example in Nautilus, I can right click and select "Safely Remove Device". After doing that, the /dev/sg7 and /dev/sdg devices are removed. Some things I've tried already are sdparm and sg3_utils, however I am unfamiliar with them, so it's possible I just didn't find the right command.

Spring/Hibernate/Junit example of testing DAO against HSQLDB

Hi guys, I'm working on trying to implement a JUnit test to check the functionality of a DAO. (The DAO will create/read a basic object/table relationship in HSQLDB). The trouble I'm having is the persistence of the DAO (for the non-test code) is being completed through an in-house solution using Spring/Hibernate, which eliminates the usual *.hbm.xml templates that most examples I have found contain. Beacuse of this, I'm having some trouble understanding how to setup a JUnit test to implement the DAO to create/read (just very basic funtionality) to an in-memory HSQLDB. I have found a few examples, but the usage of the in-house persistence means I can't extend some of the classes the examples show (I can't seem to get the application-context.xml setup properly). Can anyone suggest any projects/examples I could take a look at (or any documentation) to further my understanding of the best way to implement this test functionality? I feel like this should be really simple, but I keep running into problems implementing the examples I have found. Thanks in advance!

MYSQL Event to update another database table

Hey All, I have just taken over a project for a client and the database schema is in a total mess. I would like to rename a load of fields make it a relationship database. But doing this will be a painstaking process as they have an API running of it also. So the idea would be to create a new database and start re-writing the code to use this instead. But I need a way to keep these tables in sync during this process. Would you agree that I should use MYSQL EVENT's to keep updating the new table on Inserts / updates & deletes??
