• How to efficiently deal with a large amount of HTML5 canvas pixel data over websockets

  Using imageData = context.getImageData(0, 0, width, height); JSON.stringify(imageData.data); I grab the pixel data, convert it to a string, and then send it over the wire via websockets. However, this string can be pretty large, depending on the size of the canvas object. I tried using the compression technique found here: JavaScript implementation of Gzip but socket.io throws the error Websocket message contains invalid character(s). Is there an effective way to compress this data so that it can be sent over websockets?

• Running javascript in AJAX loaded DIV

  I have page loading, via AJAX a PHP page into a div. In turn, this loaded page has it's own javascript and AJAX loaded div. Reason is to allow user to select data alter data within loaded data. I'm trying to do this without the help of JSON or such to communicate between JS and PHP. I'm guessing the parent calling page has already loaded the javascript, and the AJAX loaded content can't access that? (I've tried running the JS into the AJAX loaded content as well) If so, is there anyway to access that?

• Exposing console apps to the web with Ruby

  I'm looking to expose an interactive command line program via JSON or another RPC style service using Ruby. I've found a couple tricks to do this, but im missing something when redirecting the output and input. One method at least on linux is to redirect the stdin and stdout to a file then read and write to that file asynchronously with file reads and writes. Another method ive been trying after googling around was to use open4. The problem is, if the first few chars match something and then you enter a char that should "break" any match, it just keeps the drop down in place with the results for the last matched char... make sense? Would this be something I needed to change in the script that returns the data or something in the jquery? thanks!

  I've been reading up on message queueing lately, and I'd like to implement a simple, extendable, system for my app. While there's a lot of good information on the subject of setting up a MQ system out there, I can't find a lot about the actual implementation. I'm looking for patterns and best practices on how to properly format messages for a queue, and ways to execute the jobs in PHP. Should I use JSON, serialized objects, text, URLs or XML? What information should I send? Is a worker with a switch($job['command']) {} (or something like that) the way to go, or are there any established patterns out there to implement a worker? Help greatly appreciated!

  I'm sure I've done this in another solution, but I can't seem to find any solution as to do it again and wondered if anyone can help me... I've also tried JSON.stringify(Clients), and this is the same result. Can anyone see anything obvious I'm missing here?

The situation is following. The serverside method always returns a JSON object: { success: true|false, data: ... } The client-side utility initiates the ajax call like this var jqxhr = $.ajax({ ... }); And the problem area: jqxhr.success(function(data, textStatus, xhr) { if(!data || !data.success) { ???? // abort processing, trigger error } }); return jqxhr; // return to caller so he can attach his own handlers So the question is how to cancel invocation of all the callers appended success callbacks an trigger his error handler in the place mentioned with ???? ? The documentation says the deferred function invocation lists are FIFO, so my success handler is definitely the first one.

• asp.net mvc jQuery $.post works but $.get doesn't

  Why would POST work but not GET? I'm not using [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)]. I'm calling this: public ActionResult GetTest(string key) { var test = new { HelpTest = key }; return Json(test); } And it works when I do this: $.post("/Home/GetTest", { key: options.key }, function(helpTest) { alert(helpTest.HelpTest); }); But not this: $.get("/Home/GetTest", { key: options.key }, function(helpTest) { alert(helpTest.HelpTest); }); Why would this be? Using GET returns an XMLHttpRequest.status of 500. What am I confused about?

• Jquery Ajax Request working on Ubuntu but not working on Debian?

  I have a strange bug. I develop my application under linux ubuntu. Then i export my project under linux debian for production. I use a classic $.ajax request which return to url ,a json file to parse its content. I created a javascript alert() on the sucess part to see what is returned. Under the developpement version under ubuntu, it's works and i get : [object Object],[object Object],[object Object] Under the production environnement under debian, it's not working and i get my jsonfile content : [ { "cell_line" : "", "id_user" : "2", "public" : "0", },{...},{..} ,etc...] What is going on here? I really don't understand? How the change of platform (ubuntu to debian) can do this??? There is something I am missing.. I'll really appreciate some help on that. Thanks!

Can someone help me solve this problem. Note: The url I am trying to read contains a json response so everything is in one line I think thats why I am having some content missing.

• String.Format in javascript?

  Hi this is driving me nuts. I believe I asked this exact same question but I can't find it anymore(I used stackoverflow search, google search, manually searched my posts, searched my code). I wanted something that would be like the C# String.Format where you could do something like string format = String.Format("Hi {0}",name); just for javascript of course and one person gave me a simple answer it was not like a jquery plugin or anything but I think you made some json thing or something and it worked and was simple to use. • Getting Notifications in Background Mode iOS?

  I'm trying to get Notifications in Background Mode by running a method every minute to see if there are new notifications. This works great in Active Mode, but I saw for background mode it is restricted to 7 keys. I enabled the Background Mode with the option Background Fetch, but seems like the method is being called but it's not complete. In AppDelegate I'm calling: - (void)applicationDidEnterBackground:(UIApplication *)application { //This has a Timer to execute every minute [self GetNotifications]; //This executes a NSMutableURLRequest *request //giving back the JSON data with the notifications } I would like to do something like Facebook does for Notifications.   Question: In Flash I have the below function. Now the problem is SaveFurniture, SavePolygons and SaveComments all save to the same XML file. Now SaveFurniture sends JSON encoded data to a ashx handler, which saves it in the xml on the server.   I need to take a particular action if a user logs in from the home page. In my LogOnModel, I have a hidden field: @Html.Hidden("returnUrl", Request.Url.AbsoluteUri) In my Controller, I need to check if that value is the Home page or not. In the example below, I'm checking to see if the user is on a particular page ("Account/ResetPassword"). Is there a way to check to see if they're on the home page without resorting to regular expressions?
