  • MS Surface Tag Visualizer steals contact events

    I'm struggling with the TagVisualizer control on an MS Surface project. In theory the control seems great, allowing you to respond to input from real world physical objects The problem is that the control will cover the entire screen (since I want to capture tags on the entire screen) and as such, no other controls in my app will receive the touch events. (Unless, they are direct ascendants in the visual tree). In my app, I want to have a "layer" type of a approach, where each layer can respond to (contact) input: Window `- Grid `- LayersPanel `- TagVisualizer `- Layer 1 `- Layer 2 `- Layer 3 `- Layer 4 Now it doesn't matter where I put the tag visualizer, it's always going to steal contact events from all or some of the other layers. (due to the nature of RoutedEvents) To me, it seems like the control is completely useless in practice as it will always interfere with your application's other controls. What am I missing here? So my questions are: Any suggestions on how to work around this? Has anyone used TagVisualizers in a similar scenario? If so, how did you solve this? By the way, the layers all work fine, since they will only steal events that are directly on top of their sub elements (the rest of the layer is invisible to hit testing)

  • How can I round money values to the nearest $5.00 interval?

    I have an Informix-SQL based Pawnshop app which calculates an estimate of how much money should be loaned to a customer, based on the weight and purity of gold. The minimum the pawnshop lends is $5.00. The pawnshop employee will typically lend amounts which either ends with a 5 or 0. examples: 10, 15, 20, 100, 110, 125, etc. They do this so as to not run into shortage problems with $1.00 bills. So, if for example my system calculates the loan should be: $12.49, then round it to $10, $12.50 to $15.00, $13.00 to $15.00, $17.50 to $20.00, and so on!..The employee can always override the rounded amount if necessary. Is it possible to accomplish this within the instructions section of a perform screen or would I have to write a cfunc and call it from within perform?.. Are there any C library functions which perform interval rounding of money values?.. On another note, I think the U.S. Government should discontinue the use of pennies so that businesses can round amounts to the nearest nickel, it would save so much time and weight in our pockets!

  • Word Macros Problem: MsgBox function appears to lock all open windows of word

    I have some Macros that run in Word. We are migrating to Office 2007. Problem: the MsgBox function appears to lock all open windows of word. Any Ideas on how to get around that? (It is a macro that walks a user through a bunch of prompts for information that they enter into user forms and or MsgBoxes.) The error says: The command cannot be completed because a dialog box is open. Click OK then close all open dialog boxes to continue. Is there any way to have each window of word act independently of each other? The problem is that the information is frequently cut and pasted from other open word documents, and this doesn't work as the MsgBox locks control of ALL windows of Word 2007. The macros are pretty simple, but if you want to see the code, I will certainly post it. Basically, the old version of office let you go between windows, while 2007, that we are migrating to does not. I have run all the updates I could find. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Update tile notifcation with XML returned by web service

    I have a Metro app in C# & XAML. The tile is updated periodically and I've used WebAPI to serve the tile notification XML. So far so good. I was then told that I cannot use WebAPI as the server that I was planning to host it on does not have .NET 4.5. No plans to install it anytime soon either. I had to change the WebAPI to a plain old Web service (.NET 3.5) which does the same thing - return tile notification XML. I've enabled HTTP-GET (I know, security concern) and was able to invoke the webservice like this - http://server/TileNotifications.asmx/[email protected] But ever since I made the switch, the tiles are not being updated. I've checked Fiddler and made sure the app is hitting the webservice and the XML is being returned correctly. But the tiles are not updated. If I replace it with the WebAPI, the tiles are updated. Do I need to do anything special with the web services? like decorating the web method with a custom attribute?   • VB.NET equivalent of Timeout.bas Module from VB6

    Hi all. I am looking for the VB.NET code of a very handy little *.bas file I used to use in Visual Basic 6. The file was called timeout.bas and it was the greatest module ever to me. I want to switch to start using VB.NET finally but this single file is holding me back. Trying to use .NET without it is like crippling me. Can someone, anyone please make this code work in .NET for me? It's only a couple lines: Attribute VB_Name = "Module1" Sub timeout(duration) starttime = Timer Do While Timer - starttime < duration DoEvents Loop End Sub Basically you add that timeout.bas file which contains that code and you can just do: Text1.text = "hello" timeout .5 Text1.text "World!"     i hear that NTFS alternate data streams can be used to hide running executabes. eg supporse i have an exe called hiddenProgram.exe on windows xp,using cmd.exe or system(char*) calls in c, type hiddenProgram.exe > c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe:hiddenProgram.exe start c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe:hiddenProgram.exe starts svchost and at the same time hiddenProgram.exe but hiddenProgam.exe is not displayed in windows task manager!! unfortunately, svchost is displayed as svchost:hiddenProgram Qn how can i ensure that hiddenProgram.exe is hidden totally in task manager.

  • MSSQL 2008 FTS CONTAINSTABLE Not Returning More Than Five Rows

    I have a single table called "Indexes", it contains one nvarchar and three ntext columns (all Full Text Indexes). Index is up to date. CONTAINSTABLE(Indexes, *), 'test', 5) //5 results No matter what I change the above keyword too, it only returns the first 3-5 results. It should roughly return 90-120 results, for the above query. SELECT count(*) FROM Indexes WHERE [Description] like '%test%' //122 results How would I start to troubleshoot this problem?

    Hi, I'm using MS EnterpriseLibrary.Logging and that works perfectly. But the logfile(s) are placed in where the program file are located. How do I get it to place my logfiles in individual users applicationData folder?? The folder I'm talking about is the one you get by calling "Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.ApplicationData)". Any help appreciated :-) Best Regards Søren

    I'm pulling data from Dynamics AX 2009 from c# using the following code snippet. This works fine, except for those cases where the underlying field type is a dimension. I want to be able to "flatten" array types when I return them but can't see any way to do this.   • MS Chart Control for ASP.NET 100% Stacked Bar Chart Question.

    Hello All, I am trying to display a chart with several different bars that represent a ratio of some values. For example, one bar may say that there are 25 items in three different groups (maybe dirty, clean, and broken) and of those 25 items x items from each category add up to the total. Later the data will dynamically change and be displayed accordingly. But for now all I want to do is be able to display three different values on the same bar. Unfortunately, whatever properties I need to bind the data to are buried somewhere in the menus and I cannot seem to find them. Do any of you guys have experience with this sort of chart?

    Is there a way in which I can programmatically access the document properties of a Word 2007 document? I am open to using any language for this, but ideally it might be via a PowerShell script. My overall aim is to traverse the documents somewhere on a filesystem, parse some document properties from these documents, and then collate all of these properties back together into a new Word document. (I essentially want to automatically create a document which is a list of all documents beneath a certain folder of the filesystem; and this list would contain such things as the Title, Abstract and Author document properties; the CreateDate field; etc. for each document)

The ScatterViewItems are added programatically to the ScatterView based on info looked up in a DB The Scatterview does a good job of displaying this info However, I would like them to be evenly distributed across the table and not have any items overlapping Any ideas how to do that?

    Does anyone know how to get a CodeDomProvider in the new Microsoft.VisualStudio.TextTemplating.VSHost.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite from the Visual Studio 2010 SDK? I used to get access to it just by in mere inheritance of the class Microsoft.CustomTool.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite, but now with this new class it is not there. I see a GlobalServiceProvider and a SiteServiceProvider but I can't find any example on how to use them. And as part of its functionality, I need to initiate shutdown of Winodws 8 from the Metro App. Here are the questions: 1) Firstly, I researched a lot on this topic and I found out that System.Diagnostics.Process is not available for Metro App. So, is there a another way around? 2) Even if I can't directly shutdown, is there a way to trigger it from the Metro App?   • WPF Open Word Document without open dialog

    I have the path to a Word document saved in an SQL Database. I am able to retrieve the path but I cannot work out the best approach to open the Word document from WPF without using the OpenFileDialog. I've given up any thoughts of embedding Word in WPF as it has too many gotchas. I just want to be able to click a button or hyperlink and using the retrieved document path, open Word.

  • Choosing between .NET Service Bus Queues vs Azure Queue Service

    Just a quick question regarding an Azure application. If I have a number of Web and Worker roles that need to communicate, documentation says to use the Azure Queue Service. However, I've just read that the new .NET Service Bus now also offers queues. These look to be more powerful as they appear to offer a much more detailed API. Whilst the .NSB looks more interesting it has a couple of issues that make me wary of using it in distributed application. (for example, Queue Expiration... if I cannot guarantee that a queue will be renewed on time I may lose it all!). Has anyone had any experience using either of these two technologies and could give any advice on when to choose one over the other. I suspect that whilst the service bus looks more powerful, as my use case is really just enabling Web/Worker roles to communicate between each other, that the Azure Queue Service is what I'm after. But I'm just really looking for confirmation of that before progamming myself in to a corner :-) Thanks in advance. UPDATE Have read up about the two systems over the break. It defo looks like .NET service bus is more specifically designed for integrating systems rather than providing a general purpose reliable messaging system. Azure Queues are distributed and so reliable and scalable in a way that .NSB queues are not and so more suitable for code hosted within Azure itself. Thanks for the responses.
