• Lost partition after restarting

  I have Window 7 Professional Service pack installed in my Laptop Lenovo Thinkpad t420. After formatting the disk, and install Window 7 (detailed as above), I went to Computer -- Manager -- Storage -- Disk Management to split my 300gb C partition into 2 partition: C (which is 162gb) E (which is 140gb) Is work fine for about 2 days. Today, when I turn on my computer, I'm very suprise that the E partition is disappear. I can surely confirm that I didn't do any stupid thing yesterday. And before I shut down my computer, everything was fine. In general, here is what I did during the last today (from the point that I formatted the disk, and installed Window) Format 300gb hard disk Install window 7 Install eclipse, db2, .... ( I'm a developer) Install some other tools (Open office, Skype...) Install PGP (http://www.symantec.com/encryption) <--- I'm forced to used that due to my company policy Use Computer -- Manager -- Storage -- Disk Management to split my 300gb C partition into 2 partition as described above. • Pasting formatted Excel range into Outlook message

  Hi everyone, I am using Office 2007 and I would like to use VBA to paste a range of formatted Excel cells into an Outlook message and then mail the message. In the following code (that I lifted from various sources), it runs without error and then sends an empty message... the paste does not work. Can anyone see the problem and better yet, help with a solution? • Can't connect two PCs to a Network Switch at the same time (Windows 7)

  I have two computers connected to a network switch and every once in a while one of the computers will lose its internet connection. It's almost always the same computer every time. However, if I play around with the control panel, I can switch it, so that now the other computer is not connected. Restarting either of the computers does not help either. In Windows, the worlds-greatest-trouble-shooter tells me that a network cable is unplugged and that I should try plugging it in...Disabling and re-enabling my NIC does not fix this problem, neither does swapping cables around. When rebooting, the BIOS complains about how the Ethernet Cable is not plugged in. If it's in any way important, My set up at the office is like so: Modem - Routher - Network Switch 1 - Network Switch 2. I have tried turning off the energy saving option for my NIC, and I tried manually setting the link-speed to 100Mbps Full Duplex without any luck. Also, I have a Realtek PCIe GBE Family controller on both computers Does anyone have any idea why this is happening every 5-10 days? EDIT: I have also tried using a completely different Network Switch and the problem still persists as before.

• Gmail and FB is not rendering properly in Firefox

  I am unable read Gmail in my Firefox browser on my laptop. However, there are no problems when I try to access Gmail on my office desktop. In fact, Gmail renders fine on IE on both computers. Things I have tried: Uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox. Using Firefox 3.6.26 and Firefox 10; same problem. Clearing the cache. But all to no avail. For starters: My background image does not get loaded. It says "Oops. Your selected image failed to load". The buttons for the new look do not get rendered, but when I do a mouse-over I see text which helps me navigate. When I try to read a message, I see the subject line and I see the reply / forward box. The message body does not get rendered, it seems like a styling error. • Can any iSCSI NAS appliance replicate / clone a LUN to an external drive?

  I would like to backup using Windows Imaging to some kind of NAS appliance. I believe this will require the NAS to support iSCSI. I would then like the appliance to support the replication of the iSCSI LUN to an external eSATA or USB disk connected directly to the appliance. I've found plenty of NAS appliances that can do iSCSI and replicate to an external drive, but none that I've found thus far can do both at once. That is, the devices can do iSCSI, but then the replication feature doesn't work. The idea here is to backup to an appliance located in a secure office far away from the server room. Offsite backups to external hard drive could be managed from the appliance. The benefits of such a setup would be: 1) very unlikely that fire or random theft would affect both server-room backup and "remote" backup appliance 2) offsite backups could be managed by multiple trusted people without granting access to server room 3) Windows imaging provides poor man's deduplication, so each backup volume can contain a decent backup history. I understand why this would be a non-trivial thing to implement, but I'm wondering if such a thing exists? Preferably a tabletop, low to medium cost device. Alternative solutions welcome. NOTE: I'm backing up very few but very large files, so file replication is not a good option.

• Nokia 5800 v50, getting "Invalid server name" with ad-hoc wlan with Windows 7

  After upgrading to v50 firmware in my Nokia 5800 xpress music phone. I am not able to connect to ad-hoc wlan network in my laptop(Windows 7 OS). I have a dialup internet connection and created wireless ad-hoc network to access the internet in my phone. But I am getting "invalid server name" in the phone and my wireless network access type in Windows 7 shows "no internet access". I am able to connect to wlan infrastructure network using 5800 in my office. So my phone is working with wlan and I m able to access internet on it. BUT The problem is "dial up with ICS enabled" and "AD-HOC wlan network" in Windows 7. Can anyone give some solution on it. Or can you provide a guide/tutorial to connect 5800 with adhoc network and dialup internet in Windows 7. System: Windows 7 Dial up internet connection with ICS enabled. Ad-Hoc wireless network with WEP Nokia 5800 Xpress Music phone Note: I have read other posts also and tried their solutions but didn't worked for me. the first solution is to bridge the network and access it. but how can I bridge the dialup and wlan netwok? second solution is manually configure IP and DNS addresses in phone. • Windows 2003 Active Directory Integrated DNS zone not registering non-domain computers

  I'm not a networking guy by all means, I'm just a developer who dabbles enough to get into trouble and I'm there. So bear with me... :) At my office I have a Windows 2003 Domain Controller which also services DNS. On the domain I have a handful of computers and other misc. equipment/toys. For the DNS I only created a Forward Lookup Zone for my domain (mydomain.com). I run a lot of VM's so generally I have everything on the domain, however some of those VM's are not and only in a 'Workgroup'. I also have another laptop which belongs to another domain (otherdomain.com) which is here 100% but I use it for other purposes and has to belong to the otherdomain.com. With all that said, I have two questions: I have found any computer not on mydomain.com does not register it's IP address even though 'Register this connections address in DNS' is set to in the 'Advanced TCP/IP Settings' for the nic. Where have I messed this up? On the laptop which is registered on otherdomain.com, when I do a nslookup for a computer on mydomain.com (e.g. nslookup devbox1) it appends otherdomain.com as the suffix (e.g. queries devbox1.otherdomain.com). Same thing occurs if I use the fully qualified name. In the 'Advanced TCP/IP Settings' for that nic, I can 'Append these DNS suffixes' of mydomain.com but I fear that will hose my DNS lookups when I VPN to otherdomain.com. So what is the correct approach to resolve this issue? Do I add both mydomain.com and otherdomain.com in that order?

• SMTP Unreachable from Specific Networks

  I host my business site through a VPS account. The instance runs Ubuntu and I'm using POSTFIX+Dovecot as my mail server. For the most part, the mail server works fine. I have noticed, however, that I can not send mail from specific local networks. I noticed this at a client's office serval months ago. I can receive email, but any time I tried to send mail when connected to their network the connection would time out. Since I could send my mail after leaving, I chalked it up to improper network configuration and didn't worry about it. Unfortunately I've recently moved, switched service providers, and am forced to use the service providers router due to the special set-up they put in place to give me DSL in the sticks--well beyond the typical range for a DSL run. Now I'm unable to send email from home, which is a problem. I have tried sending email through my phone (using cellular service rather than my DSL) just to confirm the server is currently working. I'm not even sure where start debugging. Any ideas on how I might track down the issue would be greatly appreciated.

• Cannot print certain colours on Ubuntu with HP Laser Printer

  We have a load of machines running Ubuntu in our office, they are either on 8.04 or 9.10. We have a server which connects a HP JetDirect that connects to a HP 3550 Colour Laser printer using CUPS. The problem we are having is we cannot print red, magenta or yellow at 100%, I've got a picture of the Ubuntu test page to demonstrate my problem: This is obviously a pretty big problem as we are constantly receiving documents with these colours and cannot successfully print them off, we cannot just switch the grayscale, our business depends on being able to print colour (seems trivial but we handle lots of artwork). We're using the recommended driver HP Color LaserJet 3550 footmatic/pxljr (recommended), there is another driver in the list labelled HP Color LaserJet 3550 footmatic/hpijs. These are production printers so need to make sure any setting change won't kick is in the nuts. It would appear HPIJS is for HP Inkjets, makes sense I guess. The problem doesn't occur in Windows. RESOLVED I've managed to solve the problem, I did indeed use the HPIJS driver (apparently for inkjets) but it seems to have worked, we're going to roll with it for now to see how we get on with it.

• Windows 7 autostarting apps as administrator

  Hello everyone. The question is easy to answer I guess. (Tried to search here, didn't find an answer.) So. The deal: There is a bug in OpenOffice (haha ..just one? :)), which prevents the spellcheck. You have to start it with right-click , run as administrator to make it work. Tried also setting this at the 'properties', but it didn't work. But 'quickstart.exe' would be also enough to make this work. (OpenOffice's quickstarter). So I'd like to run it at boot, as an admin, like I'd do with right-click. How to do THAT? (Actually there is a different bug for spellcheck on Win7. One have to run oowriter.exe as an admin, and then install the extension BY HAND from Program Files...\share...*.oxt. And THEN it'll work IF you run the app as an admin. (I'll buy SoftMaker's office as soon as the hu spellcheck arrives, but until then I have to make this work. Thanks for the answers in advance.))

• Export Outlook Express XP into Outlook 2007 Windows 7

  I've searched the forum and it seems my need is a little different than the posts which have already been made. I have an old XP laptop which I was using Outlook Express for one of my mail accounts (a work account). I also ran regular Outlook for another (personal). I want to have both of these accounts on my new PC. My new PC is running Windows 7 wiht Office 2007. I used the Windows transfer cable and things worked failry well. My regular Outlook files all came over well, but nothing for Outlook Express. I really would like to take this time to somehow export my OE files into my Outlook 2007. I would really like to keep the account which imported in on Outlook seperate. Question 1: Is there a way to import my OE files into Outlook 2007? Question 2: Is there a way to have two seperate email accounts in Outlook without combining them? Basically I want to have a work email and a personal and keep them seperate. If I can't have two seperate emails with Outlook, can anyone suggest something which would allow me to export my old Outlook (the old personal emails) into another program so that I can at least use my work email on Outlook 2007? Hopefully this isn't too confusing.

• Windows 7 PC cannot see some LAN PCs, but can access them via path

  In an office LAN, with Windows 7 Professional workstations and a FreeNAS Samba server, 2 workstations have intermittent problems in browsing for the other workstations, as well as the FreeNAS server. However, so far, it appears that typing in the path to any of the workstations which aren't visible via the "browse" function, works. ie. the machine Workstation7 is not visible while browsing via Windows Explorer, but is accessible if I type \\Workstation7 in the path field. Occasionally the workstations exhibiting these symptoms show errors that their connection to the FreeNAS server has failed and only rebooting resolves the issue. All other workstations on the network use identical Windows 7 Professional installations and never have these problems. I've checked all machines and they're not using Home Groups. All are setup on the same WorkGroup as the FreeNAS server and the network type is set to Work Network. Temporarily disabling the firewall on the workstations with the issue made no difference, so I know this has nothing to do with the firewall settings. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Is there a way to extract a "private certificate key" from Chrome and import it into Firefox ?

  This is a classical Catch-22 situation. I was using online banking the other day under Chrome. I had to order a digital certificate so that I could extend my privileges. The stupid thing is that when I got approved and opened the certificate installation menu, I saw only versions for IE/Firefox available. What the heck, I said, and chose FF - the result I got was Error 202 - ERR:CERT:INVALID. I opened FF, got to the same page, and tried to install the damn thing from there, but got a message basically saying that I must have been given a private key which obviously FF doesn't find. I read a bit, and it turned out that I really must have been given such a key but only to the browser that I ordered the cert with, i.e. Chrome. The worst thing is that if I deactivate my order, and reissue a new cert, this time from FF, I MUST go to a bank office (!!!WTF), but I am currently studying abroad, so I can't just go back. Is there a way, that I could extract that key from Chrome's profile, and import it into FF under Windows ? I will be glad to know

• SharePoint Records Center Submitted E-mail Records not picked up

  We have set up a new SharePoint 2007 site with a Records Repository. We're using Exchange 2007 Managed Folders to route e-mails to this repository based on the 'label' attached to the e-mail as set in the Exchange 2007 journaling options. E-mails added to a Managed Folder get sent to SharePoint, they end up in the "Submitted E-mail Records" list of the Records Repository. That's according to plan, but the e-mails are not routed to the respective document library as defined by the label. Instead an error appears in the event viewer for every e-mail listed in the Submitted E-mail Records list, on every interval of the records repository schedule (set to every two minutes for testing purposes): Value cannot be null, parameter name: g. Sending a document from the SharePoint site iself to the Records Repository via the Send To... link works fine, but e-mails get stuck in the list... We have set Document Libraries in the Respository with and without content types (with matching names with the Label and the Record Routing rule set). Any ideas what could be wrong? This is in the event log: Every two minutes the following error appears in the Application Log: Source: Office SharePoint Server Category: Records Center Type: Error Event ID: 4975 User: N/A Computer: SPS2007 Description: Value cannot be null. • Esx servers in a DMZ

  I have two ESX 3.5 servers in a DMZ. I can access these servers on any port from my lan via a VPN. Servers in the DMZ are unable to initiate connections back to the lan, for obvious reasons. I have a vCenter server on my lan and can initially connect to the esx servers fine. However the esx servers then try to send a hearth beat back to the vCenter server on udp/902 obviously this will not get back to the vCenter server, which then marks the ESX servers as not responding and disconnects. There are two broad solutions I can think of; 1) Try to tell vCenter to ignore not getting heart beats. The best I can do here is delay the disconnect by 3 mins. 2) Try some clever network solution. However again I am at loss. Note: The vCenter server is on a lan, and cannot be given a public IP, so firewall rules back will not work. And also I cannot setup a VPN from the DMZ to the lan. **I am adding the following, explanation that I added to the comments Ok maybe this is the bit that I not explaining well. The DMZ is on a remote site, an entirely independent network (network 1). The vCenter server is on our office lan (network 2). Network 2 can connect to any machine on any port on network 1. But network 1 is not allowed to initiate a connection to network 2. Any traffic destined to network 2 from network 1 gets dropped by the firewall as it is traffic to a non-routable address. The only solution I can think of is setting up a VPN from network 1 to network 2, but this is not acceptable So any clever folk out there any ideas? J

• How to stop DW20.exe running on Win 2003 Server

  Periodically my ASP.NET application crashes (usually because memory consumption exceeds maximum allowed by application pool) and DW20.exe starts up. This is a big problem because it uses huge amounts of memory and CPU for minutes at a time. I want to know how to stop DW20.exe from running. Please note, I have already tried these often mentioned solutions: Disabling error reporting in Control Panel System Advanced Error Reporting Disabling the Error Reporting Service Modifying the registry as in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841477 (however I might have done this wrong - this doc says "add a DWReportee value of 1" - what I did was add a DWORD entry with hexadecimal value of 1 - is this right? Also only 2 of the 4 keys were present, so I only modified these, e.g. there was no HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\PCHealth key at all) So, zero points for suggesting any of the above (unless you can see I have modified the registry incorrectly)! Also zero points for suggesting I resolve whatever is causing the application crashes :) - I am figuring this out, I just want something in the mean time to stop DW20.exe eating up all the server resources. By the way, this is a Windows 2003 SP1 server, with IIS 6 and SQL 2005 installed. There is no MS Office.

• PDFs and Networked Printers

  Weird issue. We have users printing to networked windows-shared printers (print server Win2003 sp2). Some users have been reporting recently that they can't print PDF documents to particular printers (two example printers are HP 2430 PCL 6 driver and 4250 PCL 6 driver). At first, we found that on many of these systems the "Everyone" object was added to the permissions for the root of the C: volume but had no permissions checked. We added modify privileges to it (these are Deep-Freeze systems, so modifications to these systems that we don't add as administrators won't matter) and they seemed to be able to print. Perhaps Acrobat Reader was writing a temp file for printing where users didn't have permission, we surmised, and made the change and moved on. Yesterday the user called in saying it's not working still. Looked at it; bring up a PDF, click Print and the reader app says that you have to install a printer. Look at the printers folder (Windows XP workstation), and it has printers installed. Print a test page, return to AcroReader, and it will print fine to that printer. The whole time web pages, MS Office documents, etc. print without issue to the same printers. Has anyone seen this issue with Acro Reader 9 and certain network printer drivers or shares involving HP printers? I'd post this to SuperUser but it seems to be associated with a networked printer issue, seems to affect subsets of users but may be more widespread and our users aren't reporting it to us assuming we just know about it, and I've not found rhyme or reason as to why it's affecting just PDF printing and particular printers. The print spoolers are all running on the workstations and print server without errors being logged so far, but I'm going through the logs now to see if I can find anything out of place.

• Excel data into PowerPoint slides

  I have already found some helpful sites but I'm still unable to do what I want. My Excel file contains few columns and multiple rows. All the data from one row would be in one slide but data from different cells in that one row should go to a specific elements in PP slide. At first, is it possible to export data from an Excel cell into a specific text box in PP? For example, I would like to have all data from the first column of each row go to a Text box 1. Let's say I have 100 rows so I would have 100 slides and each slide would have Text bow 1 with correct data. Text box of slide 66 would have data from the first column of row 66. Then all data from the second column of each row would go to a text bow 2 and so on. I tried to do some macros with bad success. I also tried to use Word outlines and export them into PP (New slide - Slides from Outline) but there seems to be a bug since I got 250 pages of gibberish. I had only two paragraphs and both had one word. First paragraph used Heading 1 style and second paragraph used Normal style. Sites what I have found, use VB and/or some other programming language to create slides from Excel sheets. I have tried to add those VB codes into my macros but none of them hasn't worked so far. • why adding router will hide all share folders

  I have several computers running winxp installed in my office, they are all connecting to the WAN providing by the building (wall socket) (DHCP, mask 255.255.252.0). I setup a shared folder in my computer so all other computer in the same group could access it. This configuration have been using for long time. Recently, I am trying to setup a router. I have the WAN port of the router go to the wall socket, connect the NIC to the LAN port of the router, setup the router in DHCP mode (192.168.0.100/255.255.255.0 to 192.168.0.110 /255.255.255.0), I turn off all the firewall (windows one and router's builtin one), the NIC has ip set as DHCP. If I ipconfig/all, I see that the NIC was assigned ip 192.168.0.100. I can access the internal, email whatever. However, the shared folder can no longer be accessed by other computers in the same group. I think it is the problem of ip. But what's really weird is if I turn off the DHCP function in the router, ipconfig/all always give 0.0.0.0/255.255.255.255 and I cannot access the internet. I have no idea what's going on. Anyone know how to fix it and allow the shared folder in application of router? Thanks.

• Prevent Network Printers Automatically being added to 'Devices and Printers' in Windows 7

  I think my question is a duplicate of this one, but the original question was never properly answered (the steps described are for Windows XP). I am aware of the option to "Turn off Network Discovery" (under Control Panel All Control Panel Items Network and Sharing Center Advanced sharing settings); I set this option (for both Home/Work and Private) but it doesn't seem to stop the printers getting added, and has the side effect of preventing me from browsing the list of machines on the network (which I need). I've tried the Windows XP registry option - but it doesn't seem to make any difference: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\NoNetCrawling I find it annoying having the printer list cluttered with printers from all over the office which I am never going to use (especially since lots of them no longer physically exist, users just haven't deleted them from their machines). This must be a real problem for people in massive offices with large numbers of printers - but I can't seem to find a lot of people complaining about it - which makes me think I'm missing something obvious. I don't really want to hack the firewall or turn off sharing completely, I still want to select and use network printers and file shares. Any ideas?

• How does the LeftHand SAN perform in a Production environment?

  Howdy, I previously asked this ServerFault question: Does anyone have experience with lefthands VSA SAN The general consensus looks like it does not perform well enough for a production SQL server even at a light load. So the new question is, How does LeftHand's SAN perform on the HP or Dell dedicated Hardware boxes? We are looking at the Starter SAN with 2 HP nodes in a 2-way replication, 2 ESX servers hosting a total of 2 Active Directory server, 1 MS SQL server, 1 File Server, and 1 General Purpose Server for things like Virus Scan (All Microsoft Server 2005 or 2008). The reason I am looking at LeftHand is for the complete software package. I plan to have a DR site and like how the SAN can perform an Async Replication to the offsite location without having to go back to the Vendor for more licenses. I also like the redundancy built into the Network Raid architecture. I have looked at other SANS and found different faults with them. For example, Dell's EqualLogic: Found that although the individual box is very redundant in hardware, the Data once spanned across multiple boxes is not redundant, if a node goes down you have lost the only copy of the data sitting on that hardware (One thing is certain, all hardware fails... When? is the only question.). I have used an XioTech SAN as well.. Well worth the money BTW, but I think it is overkill for the size of the office I am targeting. The cost to get the hardware redundancy in the XioTech makes it a little out of reach for the budget I am working in. Thank you, Keith

• Is it possible to use XP visual styles (*.msstyles) or Windows Blinds in a thinapp portable applicat

  It's been a while since I made a portable (Office 2007) Thinapp application, and since then I've uninstalled VMWare from my machine to free up space, so I'd like to know if someone already knows the answer to this before I set up everything again to try it. I'm thinking of installing a visual style (*.msstyles, for XP) along with the application to thinapp before post-setup capture. Failing that, maybe I'll try with visual mods such as Windows Blinds. The purpose is to be able to run a portable application with a specific visual style. So my question is: Is it possible? (I believe it somehow is, since VirtualBox does something similar to XP Mode) If it is, will it work on a computer with the "classic" Windows style? If it's not, will it work with another virtualization software? (Xenocode?) If it's not possible with *.msstyles, will it work with visual mods such as Windows Blinds? Thanks for any input! • How do I export address book from N97

  Hi, I need to copy my numbers from my private Nokia to my office BB. I have not found a way to export my phone numbers from ovi or elsewhere. On Mac iSync stopped working with snow leopard and OVI on windows does not export. I do not mind using a windows suggestion. I lost a description on how to use the ovi backup files in another program. What I have done so far terminal: sudo open -a iSync.app - it launched but iSync said "this device is not supported by iSync" went here http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/isync/compatibility-and-download found a plugin (I am sure that was not there a while ago :| ) Checked software version 22.0.110 installed plugin Ran iSync which found and installed my N97 device successfully. synced. It stopped with The connection was lost while talking to the phone. http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/N97-iSync-Multimedia-Transfer-Modem/m-p/568560 no news since Jan 2010. Tried to download and install http://best-vcard.en.softonic.com/symbian but the installer fails :( I simply do not understand why Nokia is giving us such a hard time. I would not have considered switching from Nokia if Mac had been better supported. It is so frustrating that they just seem not to care losing Nokia fanbois like me - especially since I am this outspoken on the net and what i say on popular forums gets indexed by google fast. I am very close to just go iPhone here. Hope someone has Nokia's ears UPDATE: I Downloaded NbuExplorer from sourceforge. It will extract everything from an OVI backup into VCF, VCS and VMG files. Very useful software and free.

• Providing access to a Samba server for VPN clients

  We have some Windows users that connect to our network via VPN from home. They need to be able to connect to our Samba server and access a mapped network drive just as they do as when they are on our LAN. The complication is that VPN clients are placed on a subnet other than our office LAN, and behind a firewall. What's the easiest way for me to allow them to still connect to the network share? The solutions I've currently seen involve setting up a WINS server for name resolution purposes and then tunnelling a bunch of the NetBIOS stuff through the firewall. However that means I'd have to set up the VPN DHCP server to hand out the WINS address, something I'm not even sure is possible on the Cisco hardware we have. I'm thinking there must be an easier way. Should I use an LMHOSTS file? Or just map by IP address? Also, I'm not terribly familiar with Windows networking, so which ports would I need to pass through my firewall in order to get the file sharing through?

• Need troubleshooting advice for intermittent dns problems with requests on isp nameservers

  I've been having some intermittent dns problems with a web server, where certain isp's dns servers don't have my hostnames in cache and fail to look them up. At the same time, queries to opendns for those hostnames resolve correctly. It's intermittent, and it always works fine for me, so it's hard to identify the problem when someone reports connectivity problems to my site. My website is on a server running linux with Plesk. My dns records are configured with plesk (so my server is its own dns master). Domain name is registered with godaddy. I'm not real knowledgeable about dns, so I don't really know how to begin with troubleshooting. I've started learning to use dig, but while I can read the manpage to learn the syntax, I don't really know what questions to ask. Since the problem is intermittent I haven't been able to really catalog many symptoms. Symptoms I have observed: Certain people repeatedly reported intermittent problems connecting to my website. This was only from certain networks. (Ex: One guy could connect reliably from his office but not his home.) Sometimes I notice my browser taking a long time looking up the hostname for my site (Firefox shows a message in the status bar at the bottom). For me this is in the ten second range. ssh connections from anywhere to my server take a long time to connect but then seem to work fine once connected. So hopefully the folks on serverfault can point me to a good beginner tutorial for understanding dns, and suggest troubleshooting questions to ask next time one of my users reports connectivity problems.
