• Pfsense 2.1 OpenVPN can't reach servers on the LAN

  I have a small network set up like this: I have a Pfsense for connecting my servers to the WAN, they are using NAT from the LAN - WAN. I have an OpenVPN server using TAP to allow remote workers to be put on the same LAN network as the servers. They connect through the WAN IP to the OVPN interface. • PHP shell_exec times out, but not when executed manually

  I have a Windows 2008 server with PHP and msys installed. I also have a simple php script that calls shell_exec and tars a few files. When I run the script on my development machine (Windows 7), it works fine. However, when I run it on the Windows 2k8 server, it times out. When I copy and paste exactly what's being run on the cmd line and run it, it executes w/out error in less than a second. One more important detail: when I shell_exec 'dir' or 'netstat', the script runs without any problems. When I shell_exec 'ls' it hangs. When I run ls on the command line, it returns immediately. Other details that might be useful: The Windows 2k8 server is a VPS hosted by Rackspace. I did vanilla installs of Apache, PHP, and msys, but I haven't installed anything else. When I run whoami, I see the php script is executing as the user "nt authority\system".

• diagnose "corrupt file" problems

  My computer has been crashing the last couple weeks pretty regularly (at least once a day). A lot of times things I do will display a little notification in the bottom right saying something about a corrupt file. (I'm on Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3). When the computer does crash I get the "blue screen of death" usually. Some of the notifications also advise running the chkdsk utility. I cannot get it to successfully run. Using the command prompt (or even the "tools" menu after right clicking the drive and choosing properties), it will not run the utility (it says "do you want to schedule it to run next boot time" or whatever, which I confirm). The problem is that most of the time after restarting, it doesn't run at all. The few times it does run, it has an error (I can't remember the error right now, it at least says it's ntfs and such) and says disk checking will end. How can I get it to successfully run?

  Note: I've viewed cron: can’t lock /var/run/crond.pid, otherpid may be 3759 but I believe my question is different (but with the same resulting problem.) I'm very new to cron. I setup a script to run a python script every minute to test that everything was working. I did use crontab to accomplish this. It worked great, so I wanted to switch it to run every 4 hour. I changed my * * * * * {...} to * */4 * * * {...} but the job is continues to run every minute. It's been like this for the last hour or so. When I attempt to run cron restart (thinking that would solve the problem), I receive the following error message: cron: can't lock /var/run/crond.pid, otherpid may be 2311: Resource temporarily unavailable Is my cron syntax wrong? And why might I not be able to restart cron?

  In Windows 7 Explorer, when I open a folder containing only music, it's smart enough to show me a custom set of columns (Name, #, Title, Contributing Artists, Album) that make sense for a music folder. However, I also always want to see a Length column. I can right click on the column headers and add the Length column, which is persistent for that folder, but when I go to another music folder, it doesn't have the new Length column. How do I set up Windows so that ALL music folders ALWAYS show me this column?

  I am trying to print out information from the Task Scheduler from the local computer in a powershell script so other users can print out this information as well and not have to access the Task Scheduler. I need the script to print out the name, status, triggers, next run time, last run time, last run result, author and created. I can print out the information about the name, next run time, and last run time, but the rest wont print out when i run the script. • MySQL returning slow queries with result sets bigger than 30 rows

  When ever I run a query that exceeds 30 queries the time for the query to run goes from less than a second to over 10 seconds to get data. Example I run a query to return 29 rows, it takes .1 seconds, I run a query to return 31 rows it takes 11.2 seconds. I am running mySQL on Windows 2008 Server Dual Core 2.6Ghz with 3GB of Memory. The machine doesn't run anything else. It does have a instance of MSSQL running on the server but that does not get used at all. This only happens via PHP right now, If I manually run the query on the server it returns it in less than a second. The queries are not complicated either I have included one below: SELECT Name, Value FROM `bis_co`.`departments` LIMIT 31 What would be causing this issue and how can I correct this? Am I missing a configuration setting in MySQL or something. Thanks

• Is there a Google Authenticator desktop client?

  I am using Google Authenticator for 2-step authentication. I like how I can use a code and verify my account using my phone: I realize that the app was designed to run on a device other than a computer to increase security for the computer (in case that it is lost or stolen), but I would like to know if there is a way I can run Google Authenticator on my Macbook. Now, per the Google Authenticator Page it will not run on a desktop: What devices does Google Authenticator work on? Android version 2.1 or later BlackBerry OS 4.5 - 6.0 iPhone iOS 3.1.3 or later However there are several emulators for developers and so I wonder if it is possible to run one of these emulators and then run Google Authenticator with that. I do realize this is not a best practice - but I'm less worried about my laptop getting stolen and more worried about someone just hacking the account. So my question is this: Is it possible to run it on the desktop, even though it is not meant to be / not recommended?

  Salvete! I just discovered that winhlp32.exe won't run on Windows7 64bit. I can't run the application, and I can't run hlp files either (but .chm files run fine). How do I make this work? I have downloaded the Microsoft fix here and restarted my computer, but to no avail. I can see the file winhlp32.exe in my c:\windows directory, but cannot run it. When I do run it, I get Windows' own "Help and Support" entitled, "Why can't I get Help from this program?" which sends me to the link above! How can I make it work?

• Running JBoss 6 with Runit / daemontools or other process supervision framework

  I'm tying to use runit to daemonize JBoss. I use the /opt/jboss-6.1.0.Final/bin/run.sh script to start the server. When I do so from the comandline, JBoss does not detach (which is what we want), and will also shut down when CTRL+C is pressed. In theory a perfect candidate to use runit on. Everything works fine except when I try to get runit to shut down JBoss. When I issue the command sv stop jboss nothing happens. Runit thinks the process is stopped but jboss continues to run normally. I'm not doing anything special with the run script. This is my runit run script: #!/bin/sh exec 2>&1 exec /opt/jboss-6.1.0.Final/bin/run.sh -c standard -b 0.0.0.0 Looking at the jboss_init_redhat.sh script, the start section does mention ./bin/run.sh but the stop section has the following text: JBOSS_CMD_STOP=${JBOSS_CMD_STOP:-"java -classpath $JBOSSCP org.jboss.Shutdown --shutdown"} Any ideas of what I could try?

• Wireshark TCP Window Size Value

  I am debugging an application with Wireshark and watching the TCP Window Size value shrink on one side of the communication. If the packet's TCP section shows a "Window size value: 1", does that mean the source's window size is 1 or the destination's window size is 1? When i edit this file with Scene Builder i can see normal cirillic letters (screen 1) After compileing and running my program with this FXML file, i'll see not cirillic letters, but some artefacts (screen 2) But, as you can see on the screen 3, its xml file encoding is UTF-8. Also, you can see there that it is saved in ANSI. I've tried to open it with other editors (default eclipse and sublime text 2) and they shoen wrong encoding either. (screen 4 and screen 5) At first i've tried to convert it from ansi to utf-8 (with notepad++). After that eclipse and sublime text 2 started display cirillic letters as they must be. But. Scene builder gave an error, when i've tried to open this file with it: Error loading file C:\eclipse\workspace\equification\src\main\java\ru\igs\ava\equification\test.fxml. • Why do UInt16 arrays seem to add faster than int arrays?

  It seems that C# is faster at adding two arrays of UInt16[] than it is at adding two arrays of int[]. This makes no sense to me, since I would have assumed the arrays would be word-aligned, and thus int[] would require less work from the CPU, no? I ran the test-code below, and got the following results: Int for 1000 took 9896625613 tick (4227 msec) UInt16 for 1000 took 6297688551 tick (2689 msec) The test code does the following: Creates two arrays named a and b, once. Fills them with random data, once. Starts a stopwatch. Adds a and b, item-by-item. This is done 1000 times. Stops the stopwatch. Reports how long it took. This is done for int[] a, b and for UInt16 a,b. And every time I run the code, the tests for the UInt16 arrays take 30%-50% less time than the int arrays. Can you explain this to me?   Hi, I want to open a text file (see below), read the first int in every line and store it in an array, but I get an segmentation fault. I got rid of all gcc warnings, I read through several tutorials I found on the net and searched stackoverflow for solutions, but I could't make out, what I am doing wrong. It works when I have everything in the main function (see example 1), but not when I transfer it to second function (see example 2 further down). In example 2 I get, when I interpret gdb correctly a seg fault at sscanf (line,"%i",classes[i]);. I'm afraid, it could be something trivial, but I already wasted one day on it. Thanks in advance. Let's say I have a form that once the button is clicked it sends the data to the function, which the posts the data. If I give it: ((5+3) * 8) It will output: Infix: ((5+3) * 8) Postfix (RPN): 5 3 + 8 * Result: 64 However, I'm struggling with implementing the unary operators so I could do something like: ((-5+3) * 8) What would be the best way to implement unary operators (negation, etc)? Also, does anyone have any suggestions for handling floating point numbers as well? One last thing, if anyone sees me doing anything weird in JavaScript let me know. This is my first JavaScript program and I'm not used to it yet.
