• Creation of database in Oracle

  Hello, I am a newbie to Oracle, and I have used MySQL for most of the time. So now for testing scripts, I was just planning to create a database, but from the resources I have found on google, it doesn't look as simple it is maybe in mysql or in sqlserver. I just need to create a database, say "CREATE DATABASE TESTDB";. That is it, but of the resources I have found, it seems I need to create an instance identifier, decide an authentication method, create an initialization file etc. Do I really have to do all this or am I using the wrong resources. I just need to create a database and add a few tables into it, just to check my connection string etc. I need to check if I am able to connect to my web server.

• Struts2 plugins - Dojo or jQuery or...?

  Since Apache Struts has deprecated Dojo plugin from Struts 2.1.x I am thinking to change everything to jQuery. I especially noticed the difference in sizes (170kb vs 19kb - something like that). I had troubles with IE browser with handling dojo scripts, is this happening also with jQuery (when user is working with the application for a long time, script stops running)? I have a lot of dojo tags in my applications, and I use most of theirs attributes. Has anyone had any experience doing that? What were the problems? What were the benefits? Downsides? Does anyone has any better ideas of which plugin to include with Struts2? Any answer will be great! Thanks.

• Saving full page content using Selenium

  Hi all, I was wondering what's the best way to save all the files that are retrieved when Selenium visits a site. In other words, when Selenium visits http://www.google.com I want to save the HTML, JavaScript (including scripts referenced in src tags), images, and potentially content contained in iframes. How can this be done? I know getHTMLSource() will return the HTML content in the body of the main frame, but how can this be extended to download the complete set of files necessary to render that page again.   I don't know whether all coffeescript compilers wrap their scripts in anonymous functions, but that's what I see Rails doing. How can I disable this encapsulation? I want to put several initializing functions in a single coffeescript file, then call one of them from an on-page <script> tag (so that each page calls a different initializer). This can't be if the initializing functions are encapsulated. • Can events fired from an iframe be handled by elements in its parent?

• Can a function defined in a bookmarklet be called from a page-level script?

  I have a bookmarklet that needs to open a new window/tab. In order to avoid the popup blocker, I need to call the window.open() method directly in the bookmarklet ie: at the browser-level. However, I want to keep the bookmarklet updatable by loading external Javascript files. To do this, the bookmarklet needs to append script nodes to the DOM. If i were to put window.open() code in one of these externally loaded scripts, the popup blocker would block it since its page-level. What I want to know is if I can create a wrapper function around window.open() in my bookmarklet, then call it from the externally loaded script? What is the scope and what are the permissions on a wrap such as this?

• Creating quick GUI front ends

  Hi, I wanted to have a GUI front-end for a script that accepts numerous command-line options, most of them are UNIX paths. So I thought rather than typing them in (even with auto-completion) every time, I'd create a GUI front end which contains text boxes with buttons beside them, which when clicked will invoke the file browser dialogue. Later, I thought I'd extend this to other scripts which would sure require a different set of GUI elements. This made me think if there's any existing app that would let me create a GUI dialog, after parsing some kind of description of the items that I want that window should contain. I know of programs like Zenity, but I think it's doesn't give me what I want. For example, if I were to use it for the first script, it'll end up flashing sequence of windows in succession rather than getting everything done from a single window. So, basically I'm looking at some program that lets me create a window from a text description, probably XML or the like. Please suggest. Thanks Jeenu

• 'Best' way to pull data relative to a div?

  This answer suggested i should put my data in JS instead of a textarea. Thinking about it i could have scripts and do something like myarray[i]="data" where i is the index of my for loop. However when i click a div how do i find out what i is? I have used var data = $(this).parent('.parent').find('.valuestr').eq(0).val(); which is extremely simple. Should i use a script or should i continue to do it with a textarea? if i should use a script 1) Whats the easiest way to find i and 2) Is it bad pratice to have dozens or hundreds of <script> in my html? or i can go through the loop twice but i still dont know the easiest way to find i. I would have to store it somewhere or go through multiple tags and count them.

So far, I've only been able to think of the following possibilities: powershell -file <script> powershell -noprofile -command <scriptblock> The problem is, that they are very slow. For instance, I would like to be able to do: mkdir newdir cd newdir $env:NEW_VAR = 100 ni -item f 'newfile.txt' ...so that my shell's working dir wouldn't change and $env:NEW_VAR wouldn't be set in the global environment. Are there any more alternatives to accomplish this?

• How to refresh database data only in SQL Server

  So I want to copy just the data from a Prod database (SQL 2005) down to my local machine (SQL 2005 & SQL 2008 Management Studio installed). The problem is I'm running into foreign key constraints that are causing the task/scripts to fail. I can get by these errors if I import certain tables first, but is there an easier way to do this all at once? I'm not a DBA so I don't have access to the database back up. I've tried the SQL Import/Export data Wizard and Publishing Wizard, but it also gets the PK error.

  I have an Ant script running a standard -task after taking in an inputed password: <input message="Password:" addproperty="password"> <handler classname="org.apache.tools.ant.input.SecureInputHandler" /> </input> <exec executable="/bin/sh" input="${password}" failonerror="true"> <arg line='-c "myScript.sh"' /> </exec> The script myScript.sh prompts the user for a password, and, it was my understanding that from the Ant documentation that input is supposed relay input into whatever the <exec> task is executing, but instead I get (for entering the password foobar) [exec] Failed to open /usr/local/foobar which is followed by a stack trace from my script complaining about an incorrect password...so obviously I've understood the documentation wrong. Does anybody know how to handle prompted input from external scripts in Ant?

• sql server db deployment script ignoring constraints etc until commit

  Hi all, I am planning on doing a database deployment script for sql server 2005. Currently we have a tool that will run all of the tables, foreign keys, indexes and then data, each of which is located in a separate file with a certain extension (eg. tab, .kci, .fky) and the tool just runs *.tab, *.kci, *.fky into the db etc. Could I possibly combine all of thse into one file and have them run ignoring referential integrity until they are all complete, I would turn it on before we started inserting test data. It is just unmanageable having to maintain 4 or 5 different types of scripts for one table. Are there any issues I should be aware of? Cheers

• How to perform multiple find and replace in TextMate besides macro?

  I have several regular expressions to find and replace text in documents in TextMate. I would like to be able to have them run in a batch. I made a macro and it worked, but any tiny modifications to the macro means re-recording the macro. And I can't seem to modify the regex within the TextMate interface. It's read-only for some reason. Can I make it into a command? Does anyone know how? I tried to read the TextMate help about commands, but it wasn't much help. It seems I need prior knowledge of shell scripts or some sort (which I have none). Any advise in the direction would be great. Thanx in advance.

Now I want to add a condition in the installer like if there is any error while installing, I want to undo all the changes done in SQL server. • Does anyone know of a good script to force file downloads and yet protect download links on a PHP se

  I tried using a free script that I found on the Internet but it is giving me problems with Windows users (even though they are using IE 8, so it's not an option for me to ask them to upgrade their browsers.) Here's the requirements: I have a bunch of Microsoft Word and pdf files that need to be protected so that only authorized users can download them. I have already created the login system and the current script I have works fine for non-IE browsers. However, I keep getting recurring problems with Windows users who keep complaining that their files download corrupt and yet everyone else either using Mac or Linux or any other browser gets on just fine. The script must allow me to store files in a directory but force download of the file upon the function call. Must work well with most major browsers, especially I.E. If you have any practice suggestions or know of any great scripts (even if they are paid, I'm sick of this problem and would probably pay for a paid script) it would be greatly appreciated in advance.

• What would be the simplest way to deal with a text file using JSP?

  First and foremost I should acknowledge that I have no experience at all using Java ServerPages, but I'm positive about achieving this task if you guys help me out a bit since it doesn't seem like something difficult for a seasoned JSP programmer. Anyway the thing is, there's an actual running JSP application within a *NIX box which I somewhat administer with kind of good permissions. The idea is to create a new but dead simple JSP page to control some Korn Shell scripts I've got running there. So the goal is to make some sort of HTML form that will be writing some kind of scriptStatus.on / scriptStatus.off file: #!usr/bin/ksh # coolScript.sh # This is my cool script that is being launched by cron every 10 minutes. if [ -e scriptStatus.off ] then # monitor disabled else # monitor enabled fi which then can be checked for existence within the running script, therefore allowing to easily activate / deactivate it without actually have do deal with cron. I would love to progress to a framework which allows me to pass it onto the client for freedom. Someone suggested using wordpress but I'm not sure how general this can be.   From the recent news from the Apple, I learned that one has to use C/C++/Objective-C for iPhone App. Accordingly, it's not possible to use MacPython or similar to make iPhone App. But as the python/ruby interpreter itself is written in C, isn't it OK to make python/ruby interpreter for iPhone to run the scripts on iphone? Is this possible? Does Apple support this? Or does someone implemented this? Or, the user should hack to do this?

• How can I sqldump a huge database?

  SELECT count(*) from table gives me 3296869 rows. The table only contains 4 columns, storing dropped domains. I tried to dump the sql through: $backupFile = $dbname . date("Y-m-d-H-i-s") . '.gz'; $command = "mysqldump --opt -h $dbhost -u $dbuser -p $dbpass $dbname | gzip > $backupFile"; However, this just dumps an empty 20 KB gzipped file. My client is using shared hosting so the server specs and resource usage aren't top of the line. I'm not even given ssh access or access directly to the database so I have to make queries through PHP scripts I upload via FTP ( SFTP isn't an option, again ). Is there some way I can perhaps sequentially download portions of it, or pass an argument to mysqldump that will optimize it? I came across http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/archives/000690.html which mentions the -q flag and tried that but it didn't seem to do anything differently.

  Hi, I'm basically trying to convert a Unix timestamp (the time() function) to a relative date/time that's both compatible with past and future date. So outputs could be: 2 weeks ago 1 hour and 60 minutes ago 15 minutes and 54 seconds ago after 10 minutes and 15 seconds First I tried to code this, but made a huge unmaintainable function, and then I searched the internet for a couple of hours, yet all I can find are scripts that produce only one part of the time (e.h: "1 hour ago" without the minutes). Do you have a script that already does this? If so, I'd really appreciate if you could share it. Thanks.

• Import Data from Excel Spreadsheet or CVS into MySQL

  I have a spreadsheet which really has only one complicated table. I basically convert the spreadsheet to a cvs and use a groovy script to generate the INSERT scripts. However, I cannot do this with a table that has 28 fields with data within some of the fields on the spreadsheet that make importing into the CVS even more complicated. So the fields in the new CVS are not differentiated properly or my script has not accounted for it. Does anyone have any suggestions on a better approach to do this? Thanks.
