For example a have a sql table: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[dictTable]( [keyValue] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [valueValue] [int] NULL, CONSTRAINT [Psd2Id] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [keyValue] ASC )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF) ON [PRIMARY] ) ON [PRIMARY] C# code: string connectionString = "server=localhost;database=dbd;uid=**;pwd=**"; SqlConnection mySqlConnection = new SqlConnection(connectionString); string selectString = "SELECT keyValue, valueValue FROM dicTable"; SqlCommand mySqlCommand = mySqlConnection.CreateCommand(); mySqlCommand.CommandText = selectString; SqlDataAdapter mySqlDataAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(); mySqlDataAdapter.SelectCommand = mySqlCommand; DataSet myDataSet = new DataSet(); mySqlConnection.Open(); string dataTableName = "dictionary"; mySqlDataAdapter.Fill(myDataSet, dataTableName); DataTable myDataTable = myDataSet.Tables[dataTableName]; //now how to serialize it?

How can you execute multiple DbCommands with one connection? Example: var db = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase(); var dbCommand = db.GetSqlStringCommand(InsertCommandText); ... db.ExecuteNonQuery(dbCommand); Now, I want to be able to Execute multiple dbCommands. For instance in pseudo kind of code: var db = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase(); var dbCommand1 = db.GetSqlStringCommand(InsertCommandText); ... var dbCommand1 = db.GetSqlStringCommand(InsertCommandText); ... • Do I really need an ORM?

    - by alchemical
We're about to begin development on a mid-size ASP.Net MVC 2 web site. For a typical page, we grab data and throw it up on the web page, i.e. there is not much pre-processing of the data before it is sent to the UI. We're now making the decision whether or not to use an ORM and if yes, which one. We had been looking at EF2 AKA EF4 (ASP.Net Entity Framework in VS 2010) as one possibility. However, I'm thinking a simple solution in this case may be just to use datatables. The reason being that we don't plan to move the data around or process it a lot once we fetch it, so I'm not sure there is that much value in having strongly-typed objects as DTOs. Also, this way we avoid mapping altogether, thereby I think simplifying the code and allowing for faster development. I should mention budget is an issue on this project, as well as speed of execution. We are striving for simplicity anywhere we can, both to keep the budget smaller, the schedule shorter, and performance fast. We haven't fully decided this yet, but are currently leaning towards no ORM. Will we be OK with the no ORM approach or is an ORM worth it?

  • is it possible to add DataRelation to DataSet if child table contains rows that have no parent in pa

    - by matti
If I fill the DataSet with DataAdapters that select all rows from Orders and Customers and call: private void CreateRelation() { // Get the DataColumn objects from two DataTable objects // in a DataSet. Code to get the DataSet not shown here. DataColumn parentColumn = DataSet1.Tables["Customers"].Columns["CustID"]; DataColumn childColumn = DataSet1.Tables["Orders"].Columns["CustID"]; // Create DataRelation. DataRelation relCustOrder; relCustOrder = new DataRelation("CustomersOrders", parentColumn, childColumn); // Add the relation to the DataSet. DataSet1.Relations.Add(relCustOrder); } (from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.datarelation.aspx) there will be a runtime error if there is orders that do not have customers. This might happen when a buggy program has not deleted customer's orders when customer was deleted. What can I do except put Orders select string a additional where-condition: CUSTID IN (SELECT DISTINCT CUSTID FROM CUSTOMERS) OR: is it really that way (that all children have to have parents)? My code might have a bug also. The exception occurs when IN MY CODE I add the relation to filled DataSet. The exception is: An unhandled exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' occurred in System.Data.dll Additional information: This constraint cannot be enabled as not all values have corresponding parent values. Thanks & Best Regards - Matti

  • Is this a bug? : I get " The type ... is not a complex type or an entity type" in my WCF data servic

    - by veertien
When invoking a query on the data service I get this error message inside the XML feed: <m:error> <m:code></m:code> <m:message xml:lang="nl-NL">Internal Server Error. The type 'MyType' is not a complex type or an entity type.</m:message> </m:error> When I use the example described here in the article "How to: Create a Data Service Using the Reflection Provider (WCF Data Services)" http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd728281(v=VS.100).aspx it works as expected. I have created the service in a .NET 4.0 web project. My data context class returns a query object that is derived from the LINQExtender (http://linqextender.codeplex.com/). When I execute the query object in a unit test, it works as expected. My entity type is defined as: [DataServiceKey("Id")] public class Accommodation { [UniqueIdentifier] [OriginalFieldName("EntityId")] public string Id { get; set; } [OriginalFieldName("AccoName")] public string Name { get; set; } } (the UniqueIdentifier and OriginalFieldName attributes are used by LINQExtender) Does anybody know if this is a bug in WCF data services or am I doing something wrong?

  • MS SQL SELECT stored procedure according to combobox.selectedvalue

    - by Jay
Hello, In order to fill a datagridview according to the selectedvalue of a combobox I've tried creating a stored procedure. However, as I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing it, depending on the WHERE statement at the end of my stored procedure, either returns everything within the table or nothing at all. This is what's in my class: Public Function GetAankoopDetails(ByRef DisplayMember As String, ByRef ValueMember As String) As DataTable DisplayMember = "AankoopDetailsID" ValueMember = "AankoopDetailsID" If DS.Tables.Count > 0 Then DS.Tables.Remove(DT) End If DT = DAC.ExecuteDataTable(My.Resources.S_AankoopDetails, _Result, _ DAC.Parameter(Const_AankoopID, AankoopID), _ DAC.Parameter("@ReturnValue", 0)) DS.Tables.Add(DT) Return DT End Function Public Function GetAankoopDetails() As DataTable If DS.Tables.Count > 0 Then DS.Tables.Remove(DT) End If DT = DAC.ExecuteDataTable(My.Resources.S_AankoopDetails, _Result, _ DAC.Parameter(Const_AankoopID, AankoopID), _ DAC.Parameter("@ReturnValue", 0)) DS.Tables.Add(DT) Return DT End Function This is the function in the code behind the form I've written in order to fill the datagridview: Private Sub GridAankoopDetails_Fill() Try Me.Cursor = Cursors.WaitCursor dgvAankoopDetails.DataSource = Nothing _clsAankoopDetails.AankoopDetailsID = cboKeuze.SelectedValue dgvAankoopDetails.DataSource = _clsAankoopDetails.GetAankoopDetails Catch ex As Exception MessageBox.Show("An error occurred while trying to fill the data grid: " & ex.Message, "Oops!", MessageBoxButtons.OK) Finally Me.Cursor = Cursors.Default End Try End Sub And finally, this is my stored procedure: (do note that I'm not sure what I'm doing here) USE [Budget] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[S_AankoopDetails] Script Date: 04/12/2010 03:10:52 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[S_AankoopDetails] ( @AankoopID int, @ReturnValue int output ) AS declare @Value int set @Value =@@rowcount if @Value = 0 begin SELECT dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopDetailsID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.ArtikelID, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Aantal, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Prijs, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Korting, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.SoortKorting, dbo.tblAankoopDetails.UitgavenDeelGroepID FROM dbo.tblAankoopDetails INNER JOIN dbo.tblAankoop ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID = dbo.tblAankoop.AankoopID INNER JOIN dbo.tblArtikel ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.ArtikelID = dbo.tblArtikel.ArtikelID INNER JOIN dbo.tblUitgavenDeelGroep ON dbo.tblAankoopDetails.UitgavenDeelGroepID = dbo.tblUitgavenDeelGroep.UitgavenDeelGroepID WHERE dbo.tblAankoopDetails.Deleted = 0 and dbo.tblAankoopDetails.AankoopID = @AankoopID ORDER BY AankoopID if @@rowcount >0 begin set @ReturnValue=999 end else begin set @ReturnValue=997 end end if @Value >0 begin --Dit wil zeggen dat ik een gebruiker wil ingeven die reeds bestaat. • Tutorials for .NET database app using SQLite

    - by ChrisC
I have some MS Access experience, and had a class on console c++ apps, now I am trying to develop my first program. It's a little C# db app. I have the db tables and columns planned and keyed into VS, but that's where I'm stuck. I'm needing C#/VS tutorials that will guide me on configuring relationships, datatyping, etc, on the db so I can get it ready for testing of the schema. The only tutorials I've been able to find either talk about general db basics (ie, not helping me with VS/C#), or about C# communications with an existing SQL db. Thank you. (In case it matters, I'm using the open source System.Data.SQLite (sqlite.phxsoftware.com) for the db. I chose it over SQL Server CE after seeing a comparison between the two. Also I wanted a server-less version of SQL because this little app will be on other people's computers and I want to to do as little support as possible.)

  • Can't submit new object to WCF DataService because of Primary Key constraint

    - by Rob
I've got a SQL database that uses Guid's for PK's and upon insert, it generates a NewId(). I have an EF data context setup pointing to that database with the primary keys setup with the Entity key:true, Setter:private and StoreGeneratedPattern:Identity because I want the DB to manage the keys and not have code set the PK property. I have an OData (System.Web.Data.Services.DataService) endpoint to access this data (just like: Hanselman did. I have another app that has a service reference to this service. Upon trying to create a new object from this reference (i.e. Product), the ProductId Primary Key is being defaulted to Guid.Empty when doing var serviceEntities = new ServiceEntities(serviceUri); //OData endpoint var product = new Product(); product.Name = "New Product"; serviceEntities.AddToProducts(product); serviceEntities.SaveChanges(); // error happens here When debugging, I look at the Product.ProductId property and it's set to Guid.Empty. When called SaveChanges, I do not want the ProductId field to be sent to the service. The response I get is: Error processing request stream. Property 'ProductId' is a read-only property and cannot be updated. Please make sure that this property is not present in the request payload. Is there a way to do this or what can I do to get this setup correctly and still have the DB generated the keys. Here is the same setup as the Product example above.

  • Detecting duplicate values in a column of a Datatable while traversing through It

    - by Ashish Gupta
I have a Datatable with Id(guid) and Name(string) columns. I traverse through the data table and run a validation criteria on the Name (say, It should contain only letters and numbers) and then adding the corresponding Id to a List If name passes the validation. Something like below:- List<Guid> validIds=new List<Guid>(); foreach(DataRow row in DataTable1.Rows) { if(IsValid(row["Name"]) { validIds.Add((Guid)row["Id"]); } } In addition to this validation I should also check If the name is not repeating in the whole datatable (even for the case-sensitiveness), If It is repeating, I should not add the corresponding Id in the List. Things I am thinking/have thought about:- 1) I can have another List, check for the "Name" in the same, If It exists, will add the corresponding Guild 2) I cannot use HashSet as that would treat "Test" and "test" as different strings and not duplicates. 3) Take the DataTable to another one where I have the disctict names (this I havent tried and the code might be incorrect, please correct me whereever possible) DataTable dataTableWithDistinctName = new DataTable(); dataTableWithDistinctName.CaseSensitive=true CopiedDataTable=DataTable1.DefaultView.ToTable(true,"Name"); I would loop through the original datatable and check the existence of the "Name" in the CopiedDataTable, If It exists, I wont add the Id to the List. Are there any better and optimum way to achieve the same? I need to always think of performance. Although there are many related questions in SO, I didnt find a problem similar to this. If you could point me to a question similar to this, It would be helpful. Thanks

  • Entity Framework - Merging 2 physical tables into one "virtual" table problems...

    - by Keith Barrows
I have been reading up on porting ASP.NET Membership Provider into .NET 3.5 using LINQ & Entities. However, the DB model that every single sample shows is the newer model while I've inherited a rather old model. Differences: The User Table is split into a pair of User & Membership Tables. All of the tables in the DB are prepended with aspnet_ I have Lowered versions of some columns (UserName, Email, etc) To work with this I have copied the properties from the Membership table into the User table (in the DB this is a 1<-1 relationship, not a 1<-0,1), renamed aspnet_Applications to Application, aspnet_Profiles to Profile, aspnet_Users to User and aspnet_Roles to Role. (See image) Link to full size image of model Now, I am running into one of 2 problems when I try to compile. Using the model in the image I get this error: Problem in Mapping Fragment starting at line 464: EntitySets 'UserSet' and 'aspnet_Membership' are both mapped to table 'aspnet_Membership'. Their Primary Keys may collide. If I delete the aspnet_Membership table from my model (to handle the above error) I then get: Problem in Mapping Fragment starting at line 384: Column aspnet_Membership.ApplicationId in table aspnet_Membership must be mapped: It has no default value and is not nullable. My ability to hand edit the backing stores is not the best and I don't want to just hack something in that may break other things. I am looking for suggestions, best practices, etc to handle this. Note: Moving the data tables themselves is not an option as I cannot replace all the logic in the existing apps. I am building this EF Provider for a new App. Over the next 6 months the old app(s) will migrate bit-by-bit to the new structures. Note: I added a link just under the image to the full size image for better viewing.

  • OracleClient to devart dotConnect for Oracle

    - by lex9081
Has anyone tried migration from Microsoft OracleClient to dotConnect for Oracle? Is it realy so easy (as they wrote at their blog http://www.devart.com/blogs/dotconnect/?p=67) or just another marketing trick? I've tried ODP.NET, but it seems to me that its interface differs from the standard one.

  • SQLiteDataAdapter Update method returning 0 C#

I loaded 83 rows from my CSV file, but when I try to update the SQLite database I get 0 rows... I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. • recursive delete trigger and ON DELETE CASCADE contraints are not deleting everything

    - by bitbonk
I have a very simple datamodel that represents a tree structure: The RootEntity is the root of such a tree, it can contain children of type ContainerEntity and of type AtomEntity. The type ContainerEntity again can contain children of type ContainerEntity and of type AtomEntity but can not contain children of type RootEntity. Children are referenced in a well known order. The DB model for this is below. My problem now is that when I delete a RootEntity I want all children to be deleted recursively. I have create foreign key with CASCADE DELETE and two delete triggers for this. But it is not deleting everything, it always leaves some items in the ContainerEntity, AtomEntity, ContainerEntity_Children and AtomEntity_Children tables. Seemling beginning with the recursionlevel of 3. CREATE TABLE RootEntity ( Id UNIQUEIDENTIFIER NOT NULL, Name VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT PK_RootEntity PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED (Id), ); CREATE TABLE ContainerEntity ( Id UNIQUEIDENTIFIER NOT NULL, Name VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT PK_ContainerEntity PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED (Id), ); CREATE TABLE AtomEntity ( Id UNIQUEIDENTIFIER NOT NULL, Name VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT PK_AtomEntity PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED (Id), ); CREATE TABLE RootEntity_Children ( ParentId UNIQUEIDENTIFIER NOT NULL, OrderIndex INT NOT NULL, ChildContainerEntityId UNIQUEIDENTIFIER NULL, ChildAtomEntityId UNIQUEIDENTIFIER NULL, ChildIsContainerEntity BIT NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT PK_RootEntity_Children PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED (ParentId, OrderIndex), -- foreign key to parent RootEntity CONSTRAINT FK_RootEntiry_Children__RootEntity FOREIGN KEY (ParentId) REFERENCES RootEntity (Id) ON DELETE CASCADE, -- foreign key to referenced (child) ContainerEntity CONSTRAINT FK_RootEntiry_Children__ContainerEntity FOREIGN KEY (ChildContainerEntityId) REFERENCES ContainerEntity (Id) ON DELETE CASCADE, -- foreign key to referenced (child) AtomEntity CONSTRAINT FK_RootEntiry_Children__AtomEntity FOREIGN KEY (ChildAtomEntityId) REFERENCES AtomEntity (Id) ON DELETE CASCADE, ); CREATE TABLE ContainerEntity_Children ( ParentId UNIQUEIDENTIFIER NOT NULL, OrderIndex INT NOT NULL, ChildContainerEntityId UNIQUEIDENTIFIER NULL, ChildAtomEntityId UNIQUEIDENTIFIER NULL, ChildIsContainerEntity BIT NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT PK_ContainerEntity_Children PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED (ParentId, OrderIndex), -- foreign key to parent ContainerEntity CONSTRAINT FK_ContainerEntity_Children__RootEntity FOREIGN KEY (ParentId) REFERENCES ContainerEntity (Id) ON DELETE CASCADE, -- foreign key to referenced (child) ContainerEntity CONSTRAINT FK_ContainerEntity_Children__ContainerEntity FOREIGN KEY (ChildContainerEntityId) REFERENCES ContainerEntity (Id) ON DELETE CASCADE, -- foreign key to referenced (child) AtomEntity CONSTRAINT FK_ContainerEntity_Children__AtomEntity FOREIGN KEY (ChildAtomEntityId) REFERENCES AtomEntity (Id) ON DELETE CASCADE, ); CREATE TRIGGER Delete_RootEntity_Children ON RootEntity_Children FOR DELETE AS DELETE FROM ContainerEntity WHERE Id IN (SELECT ChildContainerEntityId FROM deleted) DELETE FROM AtomEntity WHERE Id IN (SELECT ChildAtomEntityId FROM deleted) GO CREATE TRIGGER Delete_ContainerEntiy_Children ON ContainerEntity_Children FOR DELETE AS DELETE FROM ContainerEntity WHERE Id IN (SELECT ChildContainerEntityId FROM deleted) DELETE FROM AtomEntity WHERE Id IN (SELECT ChildAtomEntityId FROM deleted) GO

  • Strange behaviour of code inside TransactionScope?

    - by Krishna
We are facing a very complex issue in our production application. We have a WCF method which creates a complex Entity in the database with all its relation. public void InsertEntity(Entity entity) { using(TransactionScope scope = new TransactionScope()) { EntityDao.Create(entity); } } EntityDao.Create(entity) method is very complex and has huge pieces of logic. During the entire process of creation it creates several child entities and also have several queries to database. During the entire WCF request of entity creation usually Connection is maintained in a ThreadStatic variable and reused by the DAOs. Although some of the queries in DAO described in step 2 uses a new connection and closes it after use. Overall we have seen that the above process behaviour is erratic. Some of the queries in the inner DAO does not even return actual data from the database? The same query when run to the actaul data store gives correct result. What can be possible reason of this behaviour?

  • NHibernate custom connection string configuration

    - by user177883
I have a c# library project, that i configured using nhibernate, and I like people to be able to import this project and use the project. This project has FrontController that does all the work. I have a connection string in hibernate config file and in app.config file of another project. it would be nice for anyone to be able to set the connection string into this library project and use it. such as through a method which will take the connectiong string as parameter. or when creating a new instance of FrontController to pass the connection string to constructor. or if you have a better idea. How to do this? I d like this class library to use the same database of the project that s imported. How to set hibernate connection string programatically? same idea for log4net.

Hello, I have several linked tables (entities). I'm trying to get the entities using the following linq: ObjectQuery<Location> locations = context.Location; ObjectQuery<ProductPrice> productPrice = context.ProductPrice; ObjectQuery<Product> products = context.Product; IQueryable<ProductPrice> res1 = from pp in productPrice join loc in locations on pp.Location equals loc join prod in products on pp.Product equals prod where prod.Title.ToLower().IndexOf(Word.ToLower()) > -1 select pp; This query returns 2 records, ProductPrice objects that have linked object Location and Product but they are null and I cannot understand why. If I try to fill them in the linq as below: res = from pp in productPrice join loc in locations on pp.Location equals loc join prod in products on pp.Product equals prod where prod.Title.ToLower().IndexOf(Word.ToLower()) > -1 select new ProductPrice { ProductPriceId = pp.ProductPriceId, Product = prod }; I have the exception "The entity or complex type 'PBExplorerData.ProductPrice' cannot be constructed in a LINQ to Entities query" Could someone please explain me what happens and what I need to do? Thanks
