  • License for website article

    On my personal website, I have some technical ideas and some source code snippets that I share with everybody. To make it clean that everyone can use those snippets as they like, as long as I do not have to provide any warranty, I would like to add a license to the some of the texts. The bigger programs come with GPLv2+, which I think is a reasonable license for free code. Does it make sense to use the MIT License or the GNU Free Documentation License for these texts or should I just go with CC-BY? I am a German citizen, so I heard that the American licenses do not really apply to me at all. If so, that would be another advantage for the Creative Commons Family of License.

  • vSphere 5.5 role permissions for viewing tags and tag assignments

    I have a role assigned to me in vSphere and this role doesn't allow me to see any vmware tags but i know that tags are being used and are assigned to VMs. In my personal lab, i'm able to reproduce this error but i'm having difficulty figuring out which permissions I need in order to query for tags and tag assignments. Ideally, I'd like to not have the set/remove tag permissions. Is this possible? thanks.

  • Article about code density as a measure of programming language power

    I remember reading an article saying something like "The number of bugs introduced doesn't vary much with different programming languages, but it depends pretty much on SLOC (source lines of code). So, using the programming language that can implement the same functions with smaller SLOC is preferable in terms of stability." The author wanted to stress the advantages of using Functional Programming, as normally one can program with a smaller number of LOC. I remember the author cited a research paper about the irrelevance of choice of programming language and the number of bugs. Is there anyone who knows the research paper or the article?

  • creating a tag-based website and not using programming?

    I want to create a tag-based website, and I need a tool that I could use (preferably without programming). It's a site where a user could pick tags on a certain item. All tags will be placed under a group that they are logically linked to (I will do that by hand). On the other end - a visitor could choose a tag, and then be redirected to a few items on which that tag was selected the most. Besides this, I need to set up a registration form (for the visitors who want to select tags on a desired item). stackoverflow.com may serve as an example of what I want to achieve. Functionally it is a quite similar approach. I am not sure if further detailing will bring me closer to getting a development advice, but nevertheless - following this template what I would be missing on is: ability to categorize the tags; and so they would fit in one page (overall i assume <200 tags) box where a user could enter a tag and it would be pending until a certain number of users enter such tag ability to limit the number of 'questions' that appear when a visitor chooses a tag - 'question' stands for an item to which users are selecting tags (displayed items would depend on the frequency the tag was assigned - say the top two items) Which software should I try / How should I go about it?   • Require reasonably random results from an SQL SELECT query within a Joomla article (Cache enabled)

    Setup: Joomla website on LAMP stack I have a MySQL table containing some records, these are queried by a simple SELECT on the Joomla article, as pasted below. This specific Joomla website has Caching turned on in Joomla's Global Configuration. I need to randomize the order in which I display the resultset, each time the page is loaded. Regular php/mysql would offer me two approaches for this: 1. use 'order by RAND()' or any of a number of methods to allow a SELECT query to return reasonably random results. 2. once php gets the result from the SELECT into an array, shuffle the array to get a reasonably random order of array items. However, as this Joomla instance has Caching turned ON in its Global Configuration, either of the above approaches fails. The first time I load the page the order is randomized, however any further reloads do not cause the order to change, as the page is delivered from cache. The instant the Cache is disabled, both approaches (shuffle/order by rand) work perfectly. What am I missing? How do I override the Global Cache for this specific article? A very simple requirement, that is met by both php and mysql reasonably well, is blocked by the Joomla Cache that I cannot turn off.     It is my pleasure to announce the publishing of another article in our "SOA Suite Essentials for WLI Users" series: "Dynamic Data Lookup in a Business Process: Meta Data Cache Control in Oracle WebLogic Integration and Domain Value Maps in SOA Suite". This article explains how dynamic data can be retrieved in a business process using Domain Value Maps in SOA Suite and shows the similarities to the WLI XML MetaData Cache Control. Lots of customers have asked about this comparison and I hope they will find it useful. The article follows "Setting Web Service and JCA Adapter Endpoints Dynamically in Oracle SOA Suite" which describes how web services and JCA adapter endpoints in SOA Suite can be changed at run-time, and so completes the use case where a BPEL process writes to a file (via file adapter) and the output directory and the file name are set dynamically.   • TeamCity - Build triggering on specific file, Mercurial

    Hi I'm trying to get my build to trigger only when i create a Tag in Mercurial. The way im trying to do this is by creating an additional Build Config (Tag Conf) for my project where I set the VCS build trigger to: +:/.hgtags --Trigger only when tags are updated -:. --Do not trigger on any other files Whenever i push a changeset (without a Tag) in the overview my build conf (Tag Conf) says "X Pending", i suspect this is the changesets. And when I create a Tag in Mercurial, a build i is triggered and the X Pending goes away. Then all there is left for me todo is to update build/rev numbers in AssemblyInfo (somehow) and deploy the Artifacts(somehow). Question: Is this the correct way to do this or are there another/better way to do this? (Im using sln2010 runner + NUnit + Mercurial) Kind Regards

    It's pretty easy to sanitize HTML and strip ALL instances of a HTML tag using Rails helpers... But how do you just remove ONE tag? In this case, I'm using a WYSIWYG editor that insists on wrapping all my text in a <p> tag. I want to remove this parent tag without stripping out any other <p> tags within the content of the text. I know I could do this in JQuery really easily but I feel like this should be done server-side in my controller before I save the text. Is there a way to do this?

    is it possible to make a section within a contenteditable element permanent, so that a user cannot remove it? I have an h2 tag in a contentEditable div. I don't want the user to edit the h2 tag, so I set contentEditable=false, but the user can still select and remove it, which I want to disallow. So, for ex: <div contentEditable="true"> <h2 contentEditable="false">My h2 tag</h2> This is a div you can edit. But you can't edit or remove the h2 tag. </div>

  • hpricot throws exception when trying to parse url which has noscript tag

    I use hpricot gem in ruby on rails to parse a webpage and extract the meta-tag contents. But if the website has a <noscrpit> tag just after the <head> tag it throws an exception Exception: undefined method `[]' for nil:NilClass I even tried to update the gem to the latest version. but still the same. this is the sample code i use. require 'rubygems' require 'hpricot' require 'open-uri' begin index_page = Hpricot(open("http://sample.com")) puts index_page.at("/html/head/meta[@name='verification']")['content'].gsub(/\s/, "") rescue Exception => e puts "Exception: #{e}" end i was thinking to remove the noscript tag before giving the webpage to hpricot. or is there anyother way to do it??

Because I want my page's title to represent the function of the current page and because I want the title to be translated in the user's language I have added a title tag in the page's head's contentplaceholder. All jolly and good except that now there appears a second, empty title tag that off course isn't valid. Any ideas how to solve this?

    Does the label tag work with radio buttons? If so, how do you use it? I have a form that displays like this: First Name: (text field) Hair Color: (color drop-down) Description: (text area) Salutation: (radio buttons for Mr., Mrs., Miss) I'd like to use the label tag for each label in the left column to define its connection to the appropriate control in the right column. But If I use a radio button, the spec seems to indicate that suddenly the actual "Salutation" label for the form control no longer belongs in the label tag, but rather the options "Mr., Mrs., etc." go in the label tag. I've always been a fan of accessibility and the semantic web, but this design doesn't make sense to me. The label tag explicitly declares labels. The option tag selection options. How do you declare a label on the actual label for a set of radio buttons?   • Firefox/vista not showing div tag

    Hi, I have a div tag which should be displayed at the bottom of a page given a set of circumstances. On my machine XP/IE, chrome, firefox, opera (all latest versions) the div shows up fine. But on my bosses machine, running vista with Firefox 3.6 for some reason the div tag is not showing up. However, if i go to another machine with vista and firefox the div tag shows up fine. My question is, what could have been set in firefox that would cause this div tag to now be displayed. I am trying to design a tagging system with a model like this: Tag: content = CharField creator = ForeignKey used = IntergerField It is a many-to-many relationship between tags and what's been tagged. Everytime I insert a record into the assotication table, Tag.used is incremented by one, and decremented by one in case of deletion. Tag.used is maintained because I want to speed up answering the question 'How many times this tag is used?'. However, this seems to slow insertion down obviously. Please tell me how to improve this design. Thanks in advance.
