• Cocoa's newbie question: is it possible to bind a NSTableView's selection to another tableview's selection?

  http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/6999/modelsf.jpg Let'say, I've 2 entities in the Core Data's Model file, one being all "transactions" ever done by X company. The "transactions" entity has among other properties, a "DATE" property and a to-one relationship "COMPANY"(specifying the company with which X company has done that particular transaction). The other entity:"companies" of course contains all the companies' info ,with which X company has done transaction. The "companies" entity has a to-many relationships "TRANSACTIONS" which is an inverse relationship to "transactions" entity's "COMPANY" relationship. So within IB, I created a NSTableView(with its own NSArrayController) showing all the transactions on a particular Date (with the help of NSPredicate). Then I create another table view showing the to-many relationship "TRANSACTIONS" of the company of the selected transaction in the first table view(which shows transactions on a particular date). The 2nd table view's NSArrayController binding is like this: ** bind to: "name of the first tableview's controller", Controller Key: selection, Model Key Path:COMPANY.TRANSACTIONS(the to-many relationship in the "companies" entity)** Everythings work fine up to this moment, the 2nd tableview shows all the transactions X company has done with the company of the selected transactions in the 1st table view. But I have a group of textfields showing details of a particular transactions. Binding the these textfields with the controller of the 1st table view(the one showing transactions on a particular date) is pretty straightforward. But what I want to do are: 1/ Look up the transactions on a particular date in the first table view, select any one of them 2/ Then, check all previous transactions of the company of that transaction( selected in the first table view) from the 2nd table view 3/ Select any previous transactions and check the details of the transaction from that group of textfields So naturally I should have bind the textfields' gp to the 2nd table view's controller. But I found the default selected row in the 2nd table view(the one show all previous transactions of a company) wasn't the transaction I've selected in the 1st tableView for a particular date. Of course, i can manually select that transaction in the 2nd table view again.... So I just want to know if it's possible to have the 2nd table view automatically select the transaction according to the transaction I've selected in the 1st table view thr binding?? • WCF newbie - how to install and use a SSL certificate?

  This should be a snap for anyone who's done it before... I'm trying to set up a self-hosted WCF service using NetTcpBinding. I got a trial SSL certificate from Thawte and successfully installed that in my IIS store, and I think I've got it correctly set up in the service - at least it doesn't exception out on me! Now, I'm trying to connect the client (this is still all on my dev machine), and it's giving me an error, "Message = "The X.509 certificate CN=ssl.mydomain.com, OU=For Test Purposes Only. No assurances., OU=IT, O=My Company, L=My Town, S=None, C=IL chain building failed. The certificate that was used has a trust chain that cannot be verified. Replace the certificate or change the certificateValidationMode. A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider." Ooookeeeey... now what? • Cocoa Drag and Drop, reading back the data. [Newbie]

  Ok, I have a NSOutlineView set up, and I want it to capture PDF's if a pdf is dragged into the NSOutlineView. My first question, I have the following code: [outlineView registerForDraggedTypes:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:NSStringPboardType, NSFilenamesPboardType, nil]]; In all the apple Docs and examples I've seen I've also seen something like MySupportedType being an object registered for dragging. What does this mean? Do I change the code to be: [outlineView registerForDraggedTypes:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"pdf", NSStringPboardType, NSFilenamesPboardType, nil]]; Currently I have it set up to recognize drag and drop, and I can even make it spit out the URL of the dragged file once the drag is accepted, however, this leads me to my second question. I want to keep a copy of those PDF's app side. I suppose, and correct me if I'm wrong, that the best way to do this is to grab the data off the clipboard, save it in some persistant store, and that's that. (as apposed to using some sort of copy command and literally copying the file to the app director.) That being said, I'm not sure how to do that. • Applescript for a Newbie: Copy file to a new folder.

  Hi there! I've also posted this on the macnn forums, but thought I may get a better response here. I was hoping to find some help with using applescript (something I have never tried before, though I have a good knowledge of php etc) I need to create an applescript that will copy specified files from one folder to a newly created folder. These files need to be specified in the applescript. so something like: start fileToBeMoved = "Desktop/Test Folder 1/test.doc" newfoldername = "Test Folder 2" make newfolder and name it 'newfoldername' copy 'fileToBeMoved' to 'newfolder' end I'm so sorry for the rubbish description! • Newbie jQuery question: Need slideshow to rotate automatically, not just when clicking navigation.

I'm a self professed jQuery hack and I need a little guidance on taking this script I found and adapting it to my needs. Anyway, what I'm making is an image slide show with navigation. The script I found does this, but does not automatically cycle through the images. I'm using jQuery 1.3.2 and would rather stick with that than using the newer library. I would also prefer to edit what is already here rather than start from scratch. • Google App Engine/GWT/Eclipse Plugin Newbie Question- how to autobuild client side resources?

  Hi there, I'm tinkering with the default GWT application generated by the Google Eclipse plugin when I click the Google "New Web Application Project" button in Eclipse 3.5. This will no doubt be familiar to many of you.. basically there is an h1 title stating "Web Application Starter Project," a text field, and a Send button. What I've found is that whenever I make changes to the client side resources, e.g. change the text on the Send button to "Submit" in the .java file, Eclipse does not appear to autobuild these resources. In fact I have to rebuild the entire project in order for these changes to be reflected in my browser. I do have "build automatically" selected in eclipse. I should state that this is my second GWT project, the first was almost entirely server side (restlet on GAE) and everything built automatically nicely. When I first tried this new project with updated client resources, on refreshing my browser, the browser stated "you may need to (re)compile your project." I'm not sure if this is relevant but I thought I'd mention it all the same. So what's going on? How do I get Eclipse/GWT to autobuild these client side resources?   Hi this must be a very simple solution that has eluded me this last hour. I've tried to build this test function where the return value of the test_cases list should match the values in the test_case_answers list but for some reason, test case 1 and test case 2 fail. When i print the return values for the test cases they return the correct answers, but for some reason test case 1 and test case 2 return False. • Can .htaccess slow down a site?

  I'm working with a client on an e-commerce website. I implemented clean URLs using .htaccess. I also used .htaccess to solve canonical issues such as redirecting www to non-www and removing index.php from the URL. The website recently began to slow down dramatically, sometimes not even loading. The site is hosted on GoDaddy, and when the client called GoDaddy they told him it was the .htaccess file slowing down the website. I find this highly unlikely because of my past experiences, but I'm not 100% sure. My thinking is that the client's website is most likely on a shared server with a busy neighborhood, thus slowing down the site. It's not always slow, but rather sporadic throughout the day, loading fast at some points and slow at other points in time. Can the .htaccess file slow down a website to a crawl? If so, are there better ways to solve these problems with different rewrite rules and such?   System Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit Windows 7 SP1 Samsung 64GB SSD - OS' Samsung 1TB HDD - Games, /Home, Swap WD 300'ishGB HDD - Backup Okay, so I'm very frustrated, so please excuse me if I miss anything out as my head is clouded by anger and impatience, etc. I'll try me best, though. First of all, I'll explain how I got to my predicament. I finally got my new SSD. I firstly installed Windows, which completed without a hitch. Afterwards, I tried to install Ubuntu, which failed several times due to problems irrelevant to this question, but I mention this to explain my frustrations, sorry. Anyway, I finally installed Ubuntu. However, I chose the 'bootloader' to be installed on the same partition as where I was installing the Ubuntu Root partition, as that was what I believed to be the best choice. It was of my thinking that it was supposed to go on the same partition and on the SSD, which is my OS drive, though with my problem, it apparently was wrong. So I tried to fix it by checking guides and following their directions, but seemed to have messed it up even more. • Second Monitor Unable to Display at any Resolution

  After connecting the second monitor, the only way to get it to work is with 'mirror', which isn't what I want it for. If I select a display resolution for it, I get the following error: requested position/size for CRTC 148 is outside the allowed limit: position=(1908, 0), size=(1024, 768), maximum=(1920, 1920) I'm on 12.04, with AMD HD Radeon 6950, Post-update drivers. • Refresh banshee album art

  I usually just copy ~/.config/banshee-1, and ~/.gconf/apps/banshee-1 when i'm moving from one computer to the other, if I keep the path of the folders. I get to keep my music library intact with the playlists I have. The problem with this method is that, the album arts doesn't carry over nicely. You'd have to play every album to get the album art to appear. Anyone knows a workaround, to maybe force banshee to reload all album art? I saw this, but not quite what my issue is? Now here is a question that i can't seem to figure. i wrote a script for starting the vmware firefox plugin (don't worry. i gave that up and now run vBox VERY happily. i left vmware for my servers :) ) I needed to start the plugin as sudo, but i also needed to pass an argument (password) to it, that happen to be the same. So, if my password was Hello123, the command would be: sudo ./myscript.sh hi other Hello123 running from command line, the script would ask for my sudo password and then run. i wanted to capture THAT password and pass it as well. i also wanted to run graphically, so i tried gksudo, and there is an option -p that returns the password for variable assignment. well, that was a nightmare, because i would still get prompted for the original sudo: see below Find UserName vUser=$USER Find password (and hopefully enable sudo) vP=gksudo -p -D somedescriptiontext echo Execute command gksudo ./myscript.sh hi $vUser $vP and i still get prompted twice. so my question is tri-fold: is there a variable i can use for the password, just like there is one for user, $USER? is there a different way i should be assigning the value resulting of the command i have in $vP? i am wondering if executing the way i have it, does it in an uninitiated session and not the current one, since i am getting some addtl warning type errors on some variables blah blah i tried using Zenity to just capture the text, but then of course, i couldn't pass that value to sudo, so i could only use as a parameter, which puts me back in 2 prompts. • The best LCD monitors for reading text?

  I have been using an 19" Acer AL1916A B for several years now. While possibly failing in other areas - the text was incredibly sharp. Which is very important for someone like me that spends all day writing code. My eyes are very finely tuned and I can see refresh rates and even the smallest pixel overflows from anti-aliasing. Unfortunately it finally died. I then tried a 19" widescreen Acer X193w+ and found that the text was much less sharp. I also tried a 19" widescreen Samsung 920nw and was also disappointed. (by the way, widescreen is a great invention for companies - the same price for less screen!). I am looking for a couple of options of LCD's that hands-down render text ultra sharp and clear. This isn't subjective - an LCD either has sharp text or it doesn't. Anyone with delicate eyes can see the difference and knows what I'm talking about. Please also bare in mind that you're vision can adjust to a given screen; rendering your judgment biased if you do not constantly use other monitors also. If you use windows with ClearType enabled please do not reply.

• What to do when a device has no driver for Windows 7 but it has Vista, XP drivers

  This has always been a bothersome matter for me. Some devices (printers, scanners, etc.) have drivers for older versions of Windows (Vista, XP, 2000, NT) but no driver for Windows 7. What are my chances to install such devices on Windows 7? Example case: I have a Sharp printer & scanner (Sharp AR-122E N) which I have used for my old Windows XP based PC. Now I want to install it on a Windows 7 x64 based PC. Windows 7 cannot load its driver. I used the original driver CD but when I run the setup.exe (which is included in AR122EN111.exe, 6713KB), it says Cannot install driver on this operating system. Supported operating systems are: Windows 2000, XP, Vista. I tried to install the driver using compatibility settings. I tried Windows Vista and Windows XP SP3, but to no avail. The setup gave the same error. I also googled for Windows 7 driver for "Sharp AR-122E N" but it only listed the original driver that I tried. The official site of Sharp does not even list the driver for this product. In the past, the compatibility setting workaround did work for some devices, but this time it failed. What else can I do to overcome this problem?

• Is there a way to sharpen low quality images

  I have a lot of images for a project that are not really sharp and crisp. I think these were old images that were resized a lot etc. This is because I am working on a website for a client and she does not have the high quality pictures anymore, the pictures I have to work with are somewhat pixelated. Ill show you an example of one I think could be better: Now as you can see the parts around the text 'Azule' is not so sharp. Is there a way to sharpen this. Now I have another one, and I think there is no hope for this one. Is there any hope for the picture above to make it sharp again, I highly doubt it.

• Is there any way to play Netflix (stream) in Windows Media Player 11?

  Googling for a solution yields a ridiculous page on eHow that instructs to insert a DVD from Netflix. But I am not interested in the DVD option. I am only interested in streaming and unfortunately none of my browsers (IE, FF, Chrome) uses the hardware acceleration built into my video card. The only way I can play non-choppy video on my PC is via Windows Media Player, but WMP doesn't list Netflix as one of the supported online stores for some reason. Any idea or trick how stream Netflix on WMP 11 instead of a browser?

• USB flash drive unreadable after a few minutes on Windows 8

  I recently got a new computer with Windows 8. I a have a number of large backup files I am moving from my old PC to my new one. I was able to successfully copy the files to a couple 16 GB flash drives. When I try to copy the files to my new computer, the process starts just fine but after copying about 4 GB of files, the copy stops. If I look at the drive in explorer, the drive is there, but I just get a busy cursor that stays indefinitely if I click it. If I unplug the flash drive and plug it back in, everything is fine again... for a couple minutes. I've tried copying from both flash drives with the same result. I've also tested this on the USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports on my motherboard with the same result (the drives are USB 2.0) It's also puzzling that this is happening since I previously used one of the same flash drives to install Windows 8 on this computer in the first place without any difficulty.
