  • GNOME lock screen (screensaver) is missing music controls

    I have a custom Ubuntu 12.10 configuration (started out as a minimal installation of Ubuntu 12.04 with a number of other packages such as Gnome Shell selectively installed via apt-get and then upgraded to 12.10). (Almost) everything works just fine. However, the lock screen (Gnome screensaver) does not expose a UI to control music playback. Whenever I have Rhythmbox running in the background I cannot pause music playback without unlocking the screen. Obviously some package(s) or configuration bits are not present but I am not able to figure out what needs to be added or done in order to enable playback control in the lock screen. Any idea what I might be missing? Ideally I would not like to install Ubuntu desktop only to get music controls in the Gnome lock screen.

    I'm developing a cross-platform computer software. It will run on Windows and Mac OS X. For user experience reasons, I want it to have the same graphic on both platforms. I really like the Mac OS UI controls and I'd love to see them on the Windows version too. My question is: is it legal to "copy" UI components? I'm not going to copy icons or reproduce an existing Apple software. I would only "copy" some standard UI components such as Buttons, Progressbars, TreeView, ListView etc. You can see them here: http://i.stack.imgur.com/9YzYQ.png http://i.stack.imgur.com/MWR6B.jpg IMHO, they should not be copyrighted for two reasons: They are implicitly used by any Mac OS software There are a lot of Apps (for Windows and even Web-Apps) that are "inspired by" the Mac graphic.   • How can I add missing Fn-key controls?

    I have a Toshiba NB200 netbook. The majority of the Fn-key controls come through fine and are recognized by my OS (I'm running Kubuntu 12.04/KDE 4.9) but according to the markings on my keyboard there are a few more that xev isn't detecting, i.e. Fn + F9 (touchpad toggle) Fn + 1 (increase screen resolution) Fn + 2 (decrease screen resolution) Fn + Space (zoom) Now, I don't particularly need those last three but I thought it would be quite useful to remap them to, say, Media Previous, Media Next, and Media Play, but I can't do that if the signals aren't getting through. Is there any way for me to persuade the OS to recognize these keystrokes? I've tried using acpi_listen to detect scancodes but it doesn't pick up any of function-related Fn-key strokes (like Audio Mute, which does work by the way).

    I installed mupen64plus from the repositories using Synaptic. I like the emulator (for the most part, a couple of graphics glitches on TLOZ Ocarina of Time), especially its performance on my old machine, but I cannot figure out how to configure the controls for myself. I tried looking at Google Code's guide here but I can't find the file I need to edit and the link with the key ids isn't working, so even if I could find the file I wouldn't be able to change anything. So what I need is a resource with the key ids and where to find the file I need to edit. I am running Ubuntu 12.10 32-bit. 2GB RAM, Intel CORE 2 DUO @ 2.00GHz

    Hi there, i am working on a windows phone application and i am using the pie chart - i am relatively new to the silverlight control toolbox. i want to make my pie chart use different opacity's of the PhoneAccentBrush as its colour pallete. (ie if the accent colour is green then i use the green and then a 0.8,0.6,0.4,0.2 opacity of the colour as my pie charts pallete) i have tried a few things, but none of them worked - has anyone accomplished this and if so how? thanks in advance Doug

    Hi I'm using highcharts to create some charts (pie, bar, etc...) using just Javascript. These charts do not use Flash or anything like that. Is it possible for me to convert the resulting HTML page with the Javascript chart to an excel document that properly shows the image? I've tried the standard change mime types for excel and so far I've only been able to export an HTML table on the page, but no chart.
