  • iPhone + OpenGL. How Do I Correctly Switch From Landscape to Portrait?

    - by dugla
Because of the additional complexity of drawing via an EAGLView vs. a UIView I was wondering of someone has found a robust way to handle changing the device orientation from Landscape to Portrait. One approach is to tear down the framebuffer and rebuild from scratch which would require saving/retrieving scene state. The other would be far simpler: just rotate and resize the view. What is the best practice for this? Thanks, Doug

  • How do I rewrite a plist if its data types are immutable?

    - by dugla
I am getting comfortable with using plists for initializing my app. I now want to save app state back to the plist used to initialize the app and I find myself stuck. At application startup I ingest the plist into an NSDictionary which is immutable. I now want to update the NSDictionary by replacing old values with new values for existing keys and write to the plist via [NSDictionary writeToFile:atomically]. How do I get around the immutability of NSDictionary? Thanks, Doug

  • Cocoa-Touch Fun. Name the Alphanumerically Longest Method Name?

    - by dugla
So, as I get comfortable with Cocoa/Cocoa-Touch I, like others can't help but notice the rather verbose method names. What is the absolutely longest method in Cocoa-Touch that you have come across? To kick things off, I submit that perennial favorite from UITableViewController - tableView:accessoryButtonTappedForRowWithIndexPath: Cheers, Doug

  • Cocoa & Cocoa Touch. How do I create an NSData object from a plain ole pointer?

    - by dugla
I have malloc'd a whole mess of data in an NSOperation instance. I have a pointer: data = malloc(humungous_amounts_of_god_knows_what); uint8_t* data; How do I package this up as an NSData instance and return it to the main thread? I am assuming that after conversion to an NSData instance I can simply call: free(data); Yes? Also, back on the main thread how do I retrieve the pointer? Thanks, Doug

  • How do I hide the text on a label in Obj-C?

    - by dbonneville
I'm using label of a button to send a value into a function. However, I want the button to be invisible. I have the background color turned of in IB, and the text color is also set to nothing, but the text still shows up on the button. Is there another way to have a clear button that sends a value when it's clicked? If I could just turn off / hide the text on the stock UIButton that would be perfect... Thanks, Doug

  • Applescript - How to iterate over tracks

    - by Bob Rivers
Hi, I'm a newbie in applescript. I was trying to learn it from various sources, such as Doug's site, macscripter and this forum Just for learning purposes, I was trying to print on the screen all the tracks names using this code: tell application "iTunes" set myTracks to (tracks of library playlist 1) repeat with aTrack in myTracks get name of aTrack end repeat end tell But it only prints one track name, probably the last one... So, how is the best way to iterate over a list? TIA, Bob

  • Cleaning up a SQL SP with Regex

    - by Douglas Osborne
    1) If I am running a find and replace in SQL 2005 - what would be the regular expression to find tab and space sequences ( or space and tab sequences ) and replace them with just tab? 2) If I have a line which begins with a space - is there a regular expression to convert that leading space to a tab? 3) What would be the regular expression to remove all of the spaces before a CR/LF in a SQL statement? TIA for the help - I know this will be trivial to most of you, Doug

  • Give Access to a Subdirectory Without Giving Access to Parent Directories

    - by allquixotic
I have a scenario involving a Windows file server where the "owner" wants to dole out permissions to a group of users of the following sort: \\server\dir1\dir2\dir3: Read & Execute and Write \\server\dir1\dir2: No permissions. \\server\dir1: No permissions. \\server: Read & Execute To my understanding, it is not possible to do this because Read & Execute permission must be granted to all the parent directories in a directory chain in order for the operating system to be able to "see" the child directories and get to them. Without this permission, you can't even obtain the security context token when trying to access the nested directory, even if you have full access to the subdirectory. We are looking for ways to get around this, without moving the data from \\server\dir1\dir2\dir3 to \\server\dir4. One workaround I thought of, but which I am not sure if it will work, is creating some sort of link or junction \\server\dir4 which is a reference to \\server\dir1\dir2\dir3. I am not sure which of the available options (if any) would work for this purpose if the user does not have Read & Execute permission on \\server\dir1\dir2 or \\server\dir1, but as far as I know, the options are these: NTFS Symbolic Link, Junction, Hard Link. So the questions: Are any of these methods suitable to accomplish my goal? Are there any other methods of linking or indirectly referencing a directory, which I haven't listed above, which might be suitable? Are there any direct solutions that don't involve granting Read & Execute to \\server\dir1 or \\server\dir2 but still allowing access to \\server\dir1\dir2\dir3?

  • Allowing users to install fonts in Windows 7 (through GPO)

    - by djk
Hi, This is somewhat related to my previous question, http://serverfault.com/questions/48155/why-do-installed-fonts-disappear-after-reboot. Having got the font install issue sorted out under XP just fine, recently we've got a Windows 7 workstation and I've created a special GPO for it. Initially it was UAC that was demanding administrative access to C:\windows\fonts despite the fact the policy dictates that directory is writable (as is the relevant registry entries, on XP anyway). The issue now though is that when I try to copy a font or hit install it claims that the font "does not appear to be a valid font". This happens with every type of font as well. Is there some new and special consideration when allowing these changes on Windows 7? Any input would be appreciated. Many thanks, Doug

  • Application base [my path to install here] for host [hostnamehere] does not exist or is not a directory

  • List of resources for database continuous integration

Because there is so little information on database continuous integration out in the wild, I've taken it upon myself to aggregate as much as possible and post the links to this blog. New Orlean’s has been awesome.  The night life is hoppin’.  In addition to enjoying a few (too many??) of the local hurricanes in New Orleans, I have hung out with some of the coolest people  Deepesh Mohnani, David Poll, Viresh, Alan Stephens, Shawn Wildermuth, Greg Leonardo, Doug Seven, Chris Willams, David Carley and some of our southcentral hero’s Jeffery Palermo, Todd Anglin, Shawn Weisfeld, Randy Walker, The midnight DBA’s, Zeeshan Hirani, Dennis Bottjer just to name a few. A big thanks to Microsoft and everyone that has helped to put TechEd together.  I have loved hanging out with people from the Silverlight and Expression Teams and have learned a ton.  I am ramped up and ready to take all that knowledge back to my co-workers and my community.
